There is code in place that shall detect old user-layer configuration data ($UserInstallation/user/registry/data/) and translate it on the fly into the new format ($UserInstallation/user/registrymodifications.xcu). Issue 107083, integrated in DEV300_m72, removed the configuration property /org.openoffice.Office.Common/AutoCorrect/ChangeFraction. Old user-layer configuration data may contain a setting of this property. The old, pre-m74 configmgr implementation obviously ignored, but otherwise left alone, such unknown elements in the user-layer configuration data (so the setting would have survived moving user layers from pre-m72 to m73, and m73 OOo would have worked fine). The new configmgr implementation (since m74) fails to ignore such unknown elements when translating old user-layer configuration data (it does ignore them when reading its own format registrymodifications.xcu, it only fails during on-the-fly translation). It then ignores the not-yet-translated remainder of the old user-configuration data, which can arbitrarily lead to the symptoms listed in this issue's original description. The reason for the failure is explained in the comment at configmgr/source/xcuparser.cxx l. 392--399: TODO: Within Components::parseModificationLayer (but only there) it can rightly happen that data is read that does not match a schema (that no schema exists, or that the schema specifies a different type), namely if the schema was brought along by an extension that has been removed or replaced; instead of taking care of that at all the relevant places, as a hack, only 'top-level' items (that only appear in modification layer data) with unknown path are filtered out here. So here is a second reason that configuration data contains unknown elements (apart from the extension scenario mentioned in the quoted comment): Schema files are changed incompatibly between revisions, something the new configmgr implementation did not anticipate. And those incompatible changes can not only affect existing user-layer configuration data, but also existing extension-layer configuration data. While it is IMO debatable whether incompatible changes to schema files are allowed, the easiest fix would be to ignore unknown elements when reading any kind of xcu data, not just user-layer registrymodifications.xcu. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When I paste into an OO Writer document the previous contents of the clipboard are often pasted, instead of the current contents. It is intermittent, but the following often reproduces it: 1 Start Writer and create a new empty Writer document. Write the word DOG in it 2 Create a new Notepad document. Write the word CAT in it 3 Copy DOG in the Writer document with ctrl/c. Paste the clipboard contents into the Writer document with ctrl/v - it pastes OK and DOG appears. 4 Change focus to Notepad and paste the contents of the clipboard into Notepad with ctrl/v. It pastes OK and DOG appears. 5 Now copy CAT from the Notepad document with ctrl/c. Paste it in Notepad with ctrl/v. It pastes OK and CAT appears, showing the clipboard now contains CAT as expected. Now comes the problem 6 Change focus to the Writer document and press ctrl/v to paste the contents of the clipboard to the Writer document. I expect to see CAT appear, but DOG (the word previously copied in Writer) appears instead. Repeated ctrl/v keeps pasting DOG in the Writer document. This is wrong. 7 Change focus back to Notepad and press ctrl/v. The word CAT appears as expected - the last time I copied anything, I copied CAT. This is OK. The clipboard always seems to have the correct contents, because it pastes correctly into Notepad. But when I paste into Writer, Writer seems to pick up the previous contents of the clipboard. Could it be that Writer is not clearing a buffer from its previous copy? Other points: 1 It is intermittent - sometimes it works properly, sometimes it doesn't. 2 It can also happen when copying between two Writer documents. 3 It can also happen if the first item copied (DOG in 1 above) is an image. 4 I do not have Selection Clipboard enabled in OO 5 I have uninstalled and reinstalled OO and it still happens. Should I remove all my profile stuff as well and do a fresh install? 6 I never saw the problem in XP - it has only appeared since changing to Windows 7. I do not recall which version of OO I was running in XP but it was fully updated when my XP PC died in Nov 2009. 7 I first reported it as http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=95978highlight= and got very few comments. I first noticed it with a Master document but later testing proved that the fault occurs with a standard odt file without a Master document being open. 8 It also happens as reported if I use EDIT COPY and EDIT PASTE instead of ctrl/c and ctrl/v 9 I have only noticed the error when I am pasting into Writer. It does not happen when pasting into other applications. It does happen when I copy from other applications like Thunderbird. This does suggest it is Writer causing the problem. I cannot understand why I am getting it and no-one else seems to be getting it! My Windows 7 is a standard installation. I have two users defined on the PC. It would not surprise me if it was something in Windows 7 causing the problem - perhaps the implementation of Clipboard has changed in W7 and OO is not picking it up properly. First instance: ooffice 2. ooffice ascii.doc - ok, file opens in new window 3. ooffice /home/user/ascii.doc - ok, file opens in new window 4. ooffice russian.doc - error: file garbage not found 5. ooffice /home/user/russian.doc - nothing happens at all The problem is caused by command line args encoding when sending command line to pipe in /tmp. There are two problems. First, if path is absolute, file name is not converted to file:// URL (sal/osl/unx/file_uri.cxx:488 - just returns on error). Running process then just ignores it. Second - file name is converted into UTF8 before sending. Running process then just decodes file name from URL encoding and tries to open it. This is ok, if filesystem is in UTF8 encoding, but for 8-bit locales UTF8 file name could not be opened. I'm attaching patch, which solves those problems. It should work on both UTF8 locales and 8-bit locales.
