I agree here strongly. We shouldn't overload 'normal' users with
messages that don't say much. I still think we should be able to turn
'm on. Maybe as a plugin, maybe as a preference. But by default the
only thing of this kind that could be shown is :
when a SB is not open and you send a message it could not show it in
the chatwindow and have a Sending message ... string in the
statusbar untill the SB is open and then put the message in the
chatwindow history part. Or, place the message in the chatwindow,
with appended at it a [Sending ] string that dissapears once the
SB got opened. This is handyu to normal users asthey can see the lag
than (especially on low connections). For other cases I don't think
the majority of users care if the SB is opened or not. For users that
allways close the CW, it willshow a sending... everytime though,
therefor I think it's best to have it in the statusbar instead of in
the CW; SO, I'm for putting a Sending message ... string in
statusbar as long as the SB is not opened.

if we discard it, it's for a reason, do you want us to add a new patch to our
code to handle the
x-keepaliveamsn, you're doing the same thing that kopete does but we have to
handle it because it can get

having hundreds of opened SBs with activity for no reason at all.

if you close the window, amsn will send the BYE signal to the other user (but
the SB *could* still be open,
there just won't be any other user in it (you can then invite another user in
it later on instead of requesting
a new SB ip adress from the NS)
as I said, in amsn it should send the BYE signal, in WLM, it *might* not, even
if you close the chat window...

Phil meant only if the user didn't write in it...
that's because at logon you could have hundreds of opened SBs that were created
because the other client
automatically downloaded your DP, so there was no real conversation, if the SB
is for downloading the DP, then
no need to keep it 'alive'.
Thanks Phil for reminding me of this use case

[Amsn-devel] KeepAlive plugin

2007-02-20 Thread square87

Hello.
I am trying to write the keepalive plugin.
See: http://amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=886

It sends a MSG signal every 50 seconds.
But when the user left the conversation i don't get BYE signal anymore...

Honestly i think that is not a problem of my plugin...

Please, can someone confirm this?
Thanks.

Good job on the plugin (Y)

Make sure you are NOT testing with WLM8.1 on the other side (Use aMSN just

after 1 minute of inactivity. Even when you close the window, WLM8.1 keeps

Re: [Amsn-devel] KeepAlive plugin

2007-02-20 Thread Youness Alaoui
WLM works differently from aMSN.. when you open a chat window, it doesn't
request a chat, even when you are
typing, it doesn't send the typing notification... it opens the chatwindow ONLY
after you send your initial
message.
I suppose that in the same way, it closes the chat after 1 minute of
inactivity, even if you closed the chat
window, if 1 minute of inactivity isn't elapsed, it doesn't close the SB...
between two amsn users, we never close the SB so it means it's the SB itself
that will close itself after 5
minutes (not 1) of inactivity.

btw, maybe you don't receive the BYE because the keepalive plugin prevents it
from closing due to inactivity :p
