Error 302
Hi, We experience a problem at both, preproduction and production ARS servers (two pairs of servers). Sometimes, randomly, a search at the database returns an ERROR 302. This can come from Web service activity, when requiesting a register for a form. When making a search or when opening a menu. Users can see this error. Our workarround is to teach users to redo the action again, since it is random. So probably next search will go ok. I don't know where to start debugging. Any idea? Regards, Jose M. Re: Normalization Engine (NE): Autocomplete CTI based on Model/Manufacturer
Hi Alejandro, Here are some observations on the NE that would explain your results: The normalisation engine doesnt look at the CTI, it mainly uses the manufacturername, model, versionnumber (it also uses the DictionaryId in the product class which can give interesting results if you dont clear it when clearing other CTI values) To normalise a CI that only has CTI values you must create a product catalog entry with the correct Tier 1-3 values and the product name and manufacturer set to BMC_UNKNOWN Scenarios 1 2 If you supply a CI with either the model or manufacturername then you will need to create product catalog alias mappings for these where the blank value is replaced by BMC_UNKNOWN Scenario 3 If you have the normalisation type set to CTI name then you can set aliases for manufacturers and models (product name) in the NE alias form. I think your questions are answered by the above. Cheers Peter From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of Alejandro Canon Sent: 01 February 2012 21:21 To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Normalization Engine (NE): Autocomplete CTI based on Model/Manufacturer ** Hi Listers I've been testing NE in Atrium CMDB 7.5 patch 003 and I have some questions I hope you can be kind to answer. I've configured NE for using Inline Normalization, so CTI and Model/ManufacturerName will be completed/corrected in real time when creating or modifying CI's. I´ve configured about 1000 Product Catalog sample entries, all of them with this data: - Category - Type - Item - Model - ManufacturerName - Product Approved = Yes - Product Company Association with a single Company (Single Tenancy). Let's take some PCT example: - Category: Hardware - Type: Processing Unit - Item: Server - Model: PowerEdge T100 - ManufacturerName: Dell Computer Corporation - CI Class: ComputerSystem - Product Approved: Yes I've tested several scenarios when creating Computer System CI's with PCT mentioned in example and NE enabled with Inline Normalization = Yes, Allow Non Approved Product = No and Normalization Type: CTI Name Lookup Scenario 1: CI created with Category = Hardware and Model = PowerEdge T100 Results: CI created successfully, but not normalized (Normalization Status = Normalization Failed) Scenario 2: CI Created with Category = Hardware, Type = Processing and Model = PowerEdge T100 Results: CI created successfully, but not normalized (Normalization Status = Normalization Failed) Scenario 3: CI created with Model = PowerEdge T100 and ManufacturerName = Dell Results: CI created successfully, but not normalized (Normalization Status = Normalization Failed) Scenario 4: CI created with Model = PowerEdge T100 and ManufacturerName = Dell Computer Corporation Results: CI created succesfully and normalized (Normalization Status = Normalized and Approved). NE had completed Category, Type and Item. Taking in account all scenarios tested here are my questions: 1. Could NE be able to normalize CI's based on partial information for CTI and Model/ManufacturerName (like Scenario n° 1 where I set correct Category and Model but Type, Item and ManufacturerName are NULL). If possible, do I need to set some configuration? 2. Could NE be able to normalize CI's based on wrong data given in CTI and correct data in Model/ManufacturerName (like Scenario n° 2 where I set correct Category and Model but Type has wrong data (Processing instead of Processing Unit) If possible, do I need to set some configuration? 3. Could NE be able to normalize CI's based on wrong data given in Model/Manufacturer Name (assuming there should be a unique combination Model/ManufacturerName) (like Scenario n° 3 where I ser correct Model but ManufacturerName has wrong data (Dell instead of Dell Computer Corporation) If possible, do I need to set some configuration? 4. Could NE be able to normalize CI's using more parameters than Model/ManufacturerName? (not like Scenario 4 where I had to set correct Model and ManufacturerName in order to normalize that CI) If possible, do I need to set some configuration? 5. If I create a CI with CTI and Model correct, could NE be able to normalize that CI setting correct ManufacturerName? If possible, do I need to set some configuration? 6. If I have some discovery tool who can be integrated with CMDB, and that tool can push some kind of CTI values, do I need to set all combinations given by Discovery Tool in Catalog Mappings configuration in order to map them to a correct CTI and Model/Manufacturer Name in Product Catalog? I hope you can be able to answer my questions or share your experience with NE. Import .csv with duplicates to AR Form via AIE
Greetings Listers, I'm stuck on an AIE limitation that I can't seem to get around. I want to do a nightly file import from a .csv file to a target custom AR form. Problem is the .csv file contains duplicate entries and there is no way to get a completely unique key (even using a composite key from multiple columns in the .csv file). After much testing, frustration, and retesting I have found that AIE cannot (successfully) import from a .csv file without a unique key. Period. It's not that it simply will overwrite records where duplicates are encountered, it gets completely confused on the number of records to import and only processes approx. 1/3 of the total data. I've tried every combination of configurations/queries/keys in the AIE mapping and exchange entries. For reasons I won't detail, I don't have the option of altering the source of the .csv file to insert a unique ID or to filter duplicates out. I'm racking my brain to figure out some script or batch file I can create to run prior to the exchange which inserts a unique column (a counter basically) into the .csv file so that AIE can import it. I've validated that I can manually add a unique column to the .csv and everything imports as expected. Anyone have a clever way to insert a unique column to a .csv file programmatically, or a way to get Remedy to import a .csv nightly which contains non-unique data? I'm trying to avoid a less desireable solution involving running the import tool from workflow as I believe it would require me to pass Admin credentials in the command line to run the import tool. The security implications there concern me. Thanks. Nate. Re: Import .csv with duplicates to AR Form via AIE
Meta-Update does this implicitly as you code an Update query and if it already exists and no data is changing then by default no update is issued. So, say you have two CSV records and the CI in question already exists before the CSV is actually processed. Then, when Meta-Update encounters the first record and processes all assignments, if nothing is changed no update is performed. When it encounters the second record and processes the assignments, again, no update will be performed if no values are changing. You can override this behaviour so that the update is always performed. If so, Meta-Update still functions correctly because the same record is update in both cases. The AIE limitation is due to the design of AIE. There is an adapter to make the CSV behave like a database and so a unique key must be specified. Further, a single AIE job can only process CSVs with CIs going in the same class and cannot add associations etc in addition to the CI. Meta-Update processes a CSV as a CSV and can update any class on a row by row basis (determining the class based on CSV row data), can reference other CSVs for value transformations (including determination of the target classes), and can also update addition data such as other classes, relationships, and associations. An example of a such a CSV was described at the Las Vegas RUG and can be looked at here: http://www.softwaretoolhouse.com/product/SthMupd/wwrug2010.html Trial licenses are limited only by time and not functionality or numbers of records. Scripts close to what you need probably exist and are no charge. Trial licenses come with a Live Install service where Meta-Update is installed and some samples are executed. Thanks. Nate. Re: CMDB 7.6.04 SP2 Error
Hi, I know it's a little late but we logged an issue about a month ago referencing the SW mentioned below. I immediately got a reply saying that we should wait for SP3 but they could not provide a date. Long story short, I escalated this via our partner support and received an mail today saying that they hope to have SP3 out by March but are looking into a special release to SP2 before then. Hopefully someone here can offer some suggestions on what we can try next as we are quickly running out of ideas and have tried this upgrade a few times. Firstly some background information. We have a Test server running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise with a seperate DB Server running SQL 2008. We also have a third server acting as a Mid Tier server also running Windows Server 2008. We are testing our upgrade strategy on upgrading from ARS Core 7.5 Patch 003, CMDB 7.6 Patch 001 to ARS Core 7.6.04 SP2 and CMDB 7.6.04 SP2. We are also running ITSM 7.6 and SRM 7.6 Patch 001 however these 2 applications will only be upgraded at a later stage and we want to leave them on their current versions. Now, we have run the Upgrade for ARS core to 7.6.04 SP2 with no errors. Every looks and works as expected. We then ran the ugprade for CMDB to 7.6.04 SP2 which also completed successfully. The mid tier server is also ugprade to 7.6.04 SP2 and all applications (Incident, Problem, Change, SRM) are working correctly, with the exception to this one problem. When we click on any CI in the Asset Management Application and click on the Explore CI' option, the BMC Atrium Explorer opens and attempts to load some screens - however we then get this error - Error when calling getRelatedComponentsAndRelationshipsOverlay https://communities.bmc.com/communities/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-220993-25778/Error.jpg https://communities.bmc.com/communities/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-220993-25778/Error.jpg Any suggestions or advice on where we can start looking? For those of you that have come across some valuable information you are just dying to share with your colleagues, now is the time to gear up to be a Remedy Rockstar and share your knowledge with your Remedy family. For those with updates to tools/apps that have made their way into our lives, we look forward to learning about the new functionality in the latest releases. It doesn't have to be Earth Shattering but needs to be of value at any level (remember we always have some new folks every year). I talk to enough of you who are Customers, Partners, or Employees of BMC to know that in addition to the ideas presented on the List there are some very cool ideas being shared about how to do things that either haven't been done before, reminders of things that we take for granted, or improvements on the way things have been done in the past using our current toolsets and methodologies. In addition we will be looking for BMC to share with us some of their new developments in the AR System, Applications and Integrations and how we can leverage them at our jobs and for our customers. Our goal is to get the papers approved and the topics published as early as possible to allow you more time to take the agenda to your management and get approval to attend along with the growing number of attendees (yes we have grown each year). Re: Mid Tier Session Timeout
I don't see how the mid-tier server could send a message to the browser to pop the alert. With that said, an alternate approach is to have something on the browser side poll the server to check the state of the session. Sadly, this will most likely keep the session alive. I'm not seeing a good way to do this. You could set up something outside the mid-tier that the browser could poll to check the status of the session. This could work, but it's starting to get overly complicated. You could do something simple like a JavaScript alert that fires on a timer where the timer coincides with the applicable session timeout (taking into account anything that expires the session, such as a load balancer, sso solution, midtier, j2ee container, etc.). Implementing this would entail inserting some JavaScript into all the forms. The mid-tier does not use a template engine that would make this kinds of change trivial. What you have to do is either alter the stock JavaScript files to write the function to the pages. Whether such a thing is possible or not I don't know as I haven't played with the stock JavaScript files in a while. Re: Mid Tier Session Timeout
There is a timer at the bottom of the browser that does display how long until the timeout occurs - and by logical extension would indicate a timeout if the number were at 0 minutes. https://communities.bmc.com/communities/message/219802 From the Mid-Tier Guide: A session timeout clock in the status bar appears in the web browser of each user session. The clock shows how much time is left before an HTTP session will time out. Create a View form of a remote oracle DB on ARSystem (MS SQL)
Hello Listers, MS SQL 2005 on a SAN MS Windows 2003 Enterprise AR System 7.6.03 Build 001 Our system connects to a remote Sybase DB via the DB Link for ARS Croom Consulting. The Sybase DB is being replaced by an Oracle DB. We only need to read data so I am trying to make the oracle connection with a View form. The MS SQL dba created a Linked server to the Oracle DB and confirmed the connectivity. In the View form should I use the MS SQL connection string or an Oracle connection string? linkname.db_name.owner.table or db_name.table@linkname The value that I tried to load was the ORAORQ10.propmgt.propmgt.equipment. That gives an ARERR 552 message I have also tried propmgt.equipment@ORAORQ10 That gives ARERR 481 but I'm not sure if the table not found is because of case sensitivity or just the wrong connection string format. I've successfully connected to a different linked db but it is a remote MS SQL so I use the link.db.owner.table format for that. Thanks in advance. --- John J. Re: Create a View form of a remote oracle DB on ARSystem (MS SQL)
I believe it is Case sensitive. All Oracle table and view names are uppercase. Try link.db.OWNER.TABLE You may find it cleaner to create a local database view that does the remote query. Then you should not have to worry about the case sensitivity from Remedy. Re: Create a View form of a remote oracle DB on ARSystem (MS SQL)
Agreed, I usually create a local view in these instances. I have found it give me a bit more flexibility and it you don't have to make changes to the View Form when things change on the remote side; just the View needs updating. Try linkname*..*owner.table Notice there are two dots between the linkname and owner (schema if I remember my Oracle terminology correctly) name. I don't remember exactly why this is I just remember to try it when I have issues doing this kind of work. (maybe because I am skipping one of the parameters {db?}) Jason On Thu, Feb 2, 2012 at 1:59 PM, Grooms, Frederick W frederick.w.gro...@xo.com wrote: I believe it is Case sensitive. Re: Help: Oracle Error - New Installation 7.5P4 ARS

Re: Help: Oracle Error - New Installation 7.5P4 ARS
Thanks FRED, I'm running the installer as root and root is a member dba group. However, what I found was KA306790, which stating that the service name cannot be fully qualified. So i'm waiting on my dba to change the tnsnames.ora and restart the listner. Crossfingers! Now is the time to prepare your topics for our upcoming conference. We are looking for topics that fall into categories such as Case Studies (challenges you or your customers have faced and how you overcame them), Tips and Tricks (not just limited to ITSM, but anything Remedy related that you feel could help your fellow listers), Tools and Applications that help you get your daily work done (or ways to leverage existing tools/apps), Integrations that are related to our beloved AR System or apps built on it, etc. You will need to provide us with a synopsis of your proposed paper, how it relates to the AR System, the benefits it provides, the level of technical expertise it pertains to, which category it falls into (Case Study, Tips Tricks, Tools, Applications, Integrations, etc.), be able to present it in a 45 minute timeslot that includes a brief introduction, your topic, preferably a live working demo of your idea (not just powerpoint slides), and at least ten minutes for questions and answers at the end of your 45 minute window. In just a few short weeks, we will open the Call for Papers, publish the timeline and provide an online (Remedy based) app for you to enter
