Re: ITSM Assignee - Timetable

2012-07-18 Thread Rajendra Kapale
Below idea can be automated if you use assignment engine to do the
assignments based on a rule.

1) Form A which has information of all the consultant along with the shift
timing.
2) an escalation written on this form which will set the availabity of the
consutlant to not available/on vacation on the people form
3) In your assignment rule add a qualification to select only records which
has the availability not set to 'not available/on vacation'

This way only assignee which are available during a timeframe will get the
tickets assigned.

I have doubt on this.

if you say automating the process the why do you need point 1 and 2.

if you going to use point 1 and 2 then their is no need to do any thing in
the assignment engine, as the system will automatically populate the name
of the consultants in the drop down if status = available from the people
form.

Hi,

if running from the flashboards directory, you can use the syntax:

s\* -DflashInstallPath=D:\program files\BMC Software\ARSystem\flashboards

This should work (as shown below on my system):

It appears the -DflashInstallPath command line switch is needed to point

 Hi listers,

I have a requirement from a customer that we can't accomplish, but I'm

I have a form with these fields, among others:
  - ActualDate: A date value, indicating to which date is related the
 request.
  - Value: The value to show at the graph.
  - IdParent: Each request is related to a partent. A parent has a set of
 requests for several days.
  - Dummy: A field that always holds the word: Payment.

I want to show a trend line for one parent and see the sum of requests
 for each day.

So I created a variable with these characteristics:

  Expression: Value
 Group By 1: ActualDate
 Group By 2: Dummy
 No summary or historical data.

I created a flashboard, Line, RealTime, with this variable.

I created a form with a view field holding the flashboard, and a table
filed holding the parents. Each time a parent is choosen, the view field is
update with a customQual parameter, restricting the flashboard to show only
the related requests (IdParent = )

 My problem is the next:

First: I don't see the labels of the days. I mean, If I roll over a
value I can see the date, but at the graph the days names are not shown.
Second: Values are equidistant. For instance, If I have a register for
4/1/2012, another for 4/2/2012 and another for 4/10/2012, I see the three
dots separated by the same distance. The desired behavior is to show
registers from 4/1/2012 and 4/2/2012 much closer between them than from
 4/10/2012.

To summarize, I want the same behavior like it appears on the SLA trends
 on the SLM Manager console.

 Any Idea or help?

Hi,

If by class mapping, your reference is to 'Attribute list' column in class
configuration tab, then no such mapping is done by me.
At configuration level, I have not changed anything. Everything is default.

Just to clarify again, the entries created manually and via AIE tool are
exactly same, with normalization status set to default. On running the
normalization, it normalizes the entry created manually but does not normalizes
the AIE entry.

Hi,

Cause for this issue is the 'Normalization Status' Field. This is a selection
field with below values.
Selection Values

ID

Other

10

Not Normalized

20

Not Applicable For Normalization

30

Normalization Failed

40

Normalized but Not Approved

50

Normalized and Approved

60

Modified After Last Normalization

70

This field is referred / updated after and before the normalization for each
record. By default this field is not on the default view.
If value of this field is 'Not Normalized' for a record, then only this record
is normalized. When we update or created an entry, its values is automatically
set to 'Not Normalized'.

Please let us know if you are trying to map this field in 'Class Mapping' with
value other than 'Not Normalized'.

The solution is either you should not map this attribute / field, or this field
must be mapped with 'Not Normalized' value in order to normalize the record.

Hi,

if running from the flashboards directory, you can use the syntax:

D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\flashboardsjava -classpath
.;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\flashboard

s\* -DflashInstallPath=D:\program files\BMC
Software\ARSystem\flashboards FBDriver

This should work (as shown below on my system):

---

X:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\flashboardsjava -classpath
.;X:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\flashboards

\* -DflashInstallPath=X:\Program Files\BMC

 Flashboard Driver

--

set (spw) quit (q)

Enter the command :

It appears the -DflashInstallPath command line switch is needed to
point to the config files used by the flashd7604_build002.jar file
(as java -cp . FBDriver throws dependency errors )

JOB: Remedy Administrator opening in Colorado Springs, CO or Cleveland, OH

2012-07-18 Thread Julsonnet, Matt
TEKsystems is searching for an ITSM Remedy Administrator for one of our best
clients. Below is the job description and details for the ITSM Remedy Admin
position that is currently open to candidates in both Colorado Springs or
Cleveland candidates. These positions are 6 month renewing contracts with a
high likelihood to go long-term.

This position is part of Remedy Production Engineering Group. The goal of the
Remedy Production Engineering group is to ensure reliability and availability
of the Remedy ITSM suite of products (CMDB, Asset, Incident and Problem
Management, Service Request Management, Service Level Management, Change
Management, and RKM) in addition to other application and integrations (Demand,
IT Portal, TelAlert, BEM, etc). Production Engineering assumes responsibility
for service, monitoring and control of the production environments, management
of implementation, and training of Operations.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction for implementation of Remedy platform
projects - accountable for the successful delivery, implementation and
servicing of application, infrastructure and related processes to production.
- Create operational turnover documentation and training for Operations as well
as others on the Production Engineering Team for supported tools and
infrastructures.
- Perform Tier IV level support in resolving complex and critical issues for
the complete Service Management tool suite and related interfaces to/from the
Remedy system including event management.
- Proactively monitor and report on the health of the system infrastructures
- Partner with other Engineering organizations to review tool process road
maps, life cycles and licensing.
- Keep tool infrastructures current (versions, patches, platforms,
maintenance), supportable and stable
- Recommendations for tool and infrastructure technology upgrades, support,
remediation, training, maintenance, end of life.
- Identifies process improvement opportunities
- Works within the Service Management Tools Production Engineering team in
providing consistent and quality services

* There's a separate process team that works with business customers and IT app
dev teams to establish the process associated with the implementation of
Remedy/ITSM within the application based on the business-process flow and
requirements. Therefore, this is not a process definition role.
* The Remedy Production Engineering Team takes the defined process and
translates it to the actual Remedy/ITSM implementation/deployment. They
architect how the tool will work in production. There's a fine line here -
they're not leading the process definition, but have to know what's possible
within the tool and make recommendations for tweaking the process. Need to be
savvy enough to understand the business reason, but consult to have changes
made to the process so the tool can work most efficiently.
* On occasion, they may need to work with the app dev teams and possibly the
business customers if the requirements cannot be supported cleanly in the tool
set.
* Leadership skills in the context of this role require strong communications,
negotiation, collaboration, and influence. However, this is not a manager role
- leadership does not require directly managing teams or people. Require
excellent verbal, written and presentation skills to build strong relationships
with vendors, clients, co-workers; able to interface with all levels of
management. For example, candidates must be able to express issues like this:
o What: Start by explaining what the problem is..
o Impact: What is the business impact of the problem (i.e. why should we care?)
Anticipate questions and concerns people will have.
o Options: What specific options exist to address the problem and what are you
doing about moving forward on these options?
o Next steps: What is it that you are specifically going to do next, how will
it impact your audience?
If this position sounds interesting to you, please reach out to Mandy Riffel @
arif...@teksystems.commailto:arif...@teksystems.com or 719-866-6916. Thanks
and have a great day!

Re: Opinion - Tasks not Displayed on Parent Consoles

2012-07-18 Thread Juan Carlos Figueroa

Greetings,We, as some of you may have, added a link to the Incident Management
Console to open the task form and allow our users to search the TMS:Task form.
However, one issue that we found is that if the Task search initiates from the
Incident Management Console, the user then is unable open the parent form of
the task by clicking on the Open button.
Have you been able to find a workaround for this issue?
The guilty active link seems to run a process:
TMS:SHR:OpenRootRequestExists PERFORM-ACTION-SEND-EVENT @ ShowTicket
InstanceID=ABC;FormName=CHG:Infrastructure Change;DisplayName=CRQABC;
Your feedback is very much appreciated,

We built a Task Console for using on the landing page, although there is a
defect in it that is preventing it from working correctly if you save it to
your default profile, which BMC hasn’t been very helpful
 with since it’s custom.

However I agree, Tasks should be much more visible, because there really isn’t
a good way to see them if you need more detail than what is present in the
Overview Console. A prime example is that you have no
dates, so if you have a Change Request with a specific date range, and a set
of Tasks related (that also have Scheduled Dates populated) there’s no simple
way to see when you are supposed to work on your scheduled Tasks without
opening each and every Task
 record.

Subject: Opinion - Tasks not Displayed on Parent Consoles

**

Before I go butting heads with the BMC engineers on this one, I wanted to ask
this group their opinion on this subject.

Background:
ITSM Suite 7.6.04
Tasks can be associated with several things with the ITSM Suite, including
Incidents or Change Requests.
When you create a task within Incident or Change, that INC or CRQ record
becomes the parent record for that task.

Current functionality:
Tasks (regardless of their parent record) can only be viewed from the Overview
Console/IT Home Page.

When viewed in the Overview Console, the Parent Request ID (INC or
CRQ) is part of the data displayed.

Desired Functionality:
Tasks can be viewed from the console related to their parent record.
So if you create a task for an incident, the assignee can see that task from
the Incident Console.

Questions:
1) Does anybody else besides me find it odd that tasks cannot be viewed from
the parent consoles?
2) Am I out of bounds for asking for such an RFE?

Thanks,
Tim

Guillermo,
I believe you will find the Pro/Con list to be similar to just about any other
pro/con list for Windows vs Linux/Unix...

Pro:
Free
Reliable
Scalable

Con:
More complicated administration
Less 'competent' cheep resources
Etc.

This list is by no means accurate in all instances nor is it complete. The
general guidance that I have seen before, and given before is that you should
use the OS and DB that best suits your ability to support it properly, assuming
of course that it's in the support matrix :)

Rick
in the user defined section of the Pluginsvr_config.xml of secondary server you
have to specify the ftCollectionDir,ftconfigDir, ftStopStopFile of the Primary
FTS server.
There are other paramer as well like case sensitivity, langcode and threshhold
Also in the AR.cfg file of secondary servers
Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.ARF.FTS ARSYS.ARF.FTS should point to FTS primary
server and its port number

Our first indexing took 2-3 days it depends on the number of records to index
Monitor ft_pending table during the indexing process.

 Subject: fts pluginsvr_config.xml question...
 To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG

 Hi,

In the fts pluginsvr_config.xml file, what is the user defined section
 for?

One of the things I'm trying to nail down is the server group
implementation for fts. The doc that I have (from BMC) states that all
fts plugins should reside on the primary server, but the collection
directories should stay on each server group member. So we:

Comment out the secondary member's fts plugin server's line from the
 armonitor
In each secondary member's ar.cfg, we point to the respective fts plugin
 on the primary server
Update the primary server's armonitor to include a line to start each
 secondary server's fts plugin server
When the indexing begins, each fts plugin server writes to the
collection dir on the corresponding member's collection dir (or so BMC
 has advised me).

Where is the parameter that tells each fts plugin server to write to the
respective member's collection dir? The only thing that looks possible
is the user defined section of the fts pluginsvr_config.xml.
Also, does anyone know if, during the indexing process, the collection
dirs are written to concurrently? My indexing process has been running
for a day, ft_pending is at 13, and primary collection dir is being
written to, and growing 21 GB, but nada on any collection dirs on
 secondary member's collection dirs.

 Thanks,

 Rick

If you started clean on the new db it almost sounds like your export may be
corrupted.

We have rebuilt non-prod ARS databases with datapump a couple of times with no
problems. Double check 1 as a test to see (maybe for some reason it imported
the data twice to the same tables)

Hi,
yes. Here is a guide for direct URL access using a query:

https://communities.bmc.com/communities/message/235618#235618

You can pass values to fields in forms by including the field ID in the URL, as
follows:

http://mid_tier_server/contextpath/forms/ar_server/form_name?Ffield_id=value

e.g.

http://itsm7rtm/arsys/arsys/forms/itsm7rtm/HPD:Help%20Desk?F100161=INC00191211

The Suite bundling model is not necessarily dependent on version, so were a

even were it not to happen at the exact GA date of ITSM Suite 8.0.00, that

Re: Somebody BMC Remedy on Linux

2012-07-18 Thread Easter, David
I can point out that the BSM Reference stack recommends Red Hat Enterprise
Linux with Oracle, having removed Solaris from the Reference stack. See the
link below:

Contains all release information for the BSM Interoperability and BSM Reference
stack programs. https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/bsmi

I would also recommend upgrading from 7.6.03 to a later version. See below:

03-Mar-2011 (Statement of Clarification) Clarification of Support
for 7.6.03 versions of BMC Remedy and Atrium products.
http://documents.bmc.com/products/documents/95/79/199579/199579.pdf

The ITSM Suite 7.6.04 provides resolution to a significant number of customer
reported issues found in previous versions of the ITSM Suite
and will be considered the current version in the 7.6.0x codeline. BMC strongly
recommends that customers move to this current and
latest maintenance release as quickly as business reasonable.

SRM Instructions by Question

2012-07-18 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I've been given a request that is simple but I don't think can be done in SRM
7.7 without creating an AIF.

Basically, what the user wants is an instruction section for each question.
For example:

Would you like to report an issue or enhancement?* ( ) Issue ( ) Enhancement
_Select Issue to create a trouble ticket or Enhancement to submit a change
request._

Request Description* []
_Please describe your request in as much detail as possible._

I have tried playing around with the questions to see if I can somehow fake out
the questions and not map the answers anywhere, but the labels are always bold
so it doesn't look nice, and there's no way to have a question with a read only
answer or with no input box of some sort.

I'm hoping this is a feature included in the next version of SRM, but I doubt
that will be confirmed anytime soon.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Re: LoadRunner User simulation

2012-07-18 Thread Longwing, LJ CTR MDA/IC
Rick,
The answer to your question is a resounding 'MAYBE' :)

As with all things Mid-Tier, it's all about the caching on the server. As we
all know, different things are cached for different users and depending on what
your user base typically consists of, it makes a difference. On top of that,
the system doesn't allow non-admin's to be logged in simultaneously...which
means that all of your 'few accounts' would need to be admin, which wouldn't
give you true testing...but if all you are looking to do is 'put a load' on the
server...that shouldn't matter much

Does Loadrunner give you the ability to feed something like a spreadsheet into
the script - basically to use a series of users concurrently? Of course that
will imply that the users are configured in Remedy (or guests) and the system
is licensed accordingly.

We are also using multi-tenancy. What is the best method to do this?

How do we get our foundation data safely over to QA without messing up data?

Are there any major things that we should be really careful of?

Re: ITSM Assignee - Timetable

2012-07-18 Thread Jose Huerta
I was asked to do this 6 months ago. I do the analysis, and the customer is
still considering to do it or not.

The designed solution is:

1.- Create a form where you define turns by name. Each turn has
an availability time frame for each day and a name.
2.- Create a form where you can assign each user to a turn at each day. A
manager will update turns of their people. I planned a couple of active
links to copy weeks, etc.
3.- Create a form where you define a relationship between turns and support
groups. So you can have that Help Desk people has three turns and
specialist has two turns with different time-table.

That's the definition of the availability. All forms are designed to be
multi-tenancy so a record can apply to - Global - or to a company.

Now, the code. It is driven by escalations and scheduled events (see:
http://theremedyforit.com/2012/01/scheduling-actions-in-bmc-remedy-action-request-system/
)

Each time an incident is modified a guide is fired that checks:
1.- If the support group has no turns defined, then exits the guide (the
support group is not turn based).
2.- If there is no assignee or the status is resolved, pendent or closed
exits the guide. It there is an assigne and the status is assigned or in
progress, then it continues.
3.- Checks the valid turns for the support group that apply today at
current time and the user is part of them. If no request is found, then the
user is finishing its turn. If not, GOTO 6, the assigned user is currently
in turn.
4.- Changes the status to assigned and the assigned user to null. The
ticket goes again to the main queue.
 5.- Exit the guide
6.- Create an schedulling event at the finishing time of the current valid
turn.

When an schedulling event is fired by an escalation, then perform a dummy
modification on the incident, so the guide is fired.

The requirement of the customer is to empty the assignee at the end of the
turn, because the dispatching is manual. If dispatching is automatic, it
can easily changed to assign a valid user.

Regards,

Jose Huerta
