WWRUG BMC Sale Rumors

HP: They have a good ITSM product, and it doesn't require 4GB of RAM and
20 minutes to start, so if BMC ended up at HP then AR System may bite
the bullet. And on that basis, it doesn't seem a likely option.

HP's ITSM products also aren't integrated with one another nearly as
seamlessly as BMC's, making implementation more time consuming and
problematic, and even relatively simple customizations complicate it
further. I have seen enough of both, and a few others, to say with
confidence that BMC is the horse to ride.

WWRUG BMC Sale Rumors

Patrick: I guess it depends on what you mean by 'replace'. Different
products have different functionality. HP SRC is far slicker than BMC
SRM and seems perfectly adequate in the role of allowing a user to
request a service.

Rick: I think you're probably correct in terms of integration at the
database level. I think HP Asset Management doesn't sit on top of
Service Manager's database.

John, up until v8, I would agree with you about BMC SRM being the weaker of
the two. But not now. BMC completely rebuilt it, and the customer
feedback so far is very positive. In fact, having just spent the week at
WWRUG seeing the new version of ITSM, BMC has raised the bar again.

I encourage you to check it out for yourself. Yes, their web technology is
still behind the curve, but the rest is leading the pack.

John,

I also encourage you to join us next year at WWRUG. At the conferences I have
learned a lot about the software. Over the years I have meet many of the
individuals that post to the ARS List. it's become like a big family reunion
when not in sessions.

It would be great to be able to associate a face and voice with your name.

I also spoke to someone who witnessed something very similar at another
very large company whose name you would all know. They were basically
given hardware and software by HP, and a few years later, all that free
stuff has cost them plenty, and they are still using the Remedy systems HP
was supposed to replace, were it only to actually be usable.

WWRUG BMC Sale Rumors

2012-10-20 Thread John Baker
The entire HP vs BMC thing is entirely subjective. JSS came within an inch of
an SSO Plugin sale in 2010 only to be scuppered by the organisation cancelling
the BMC project. And I've spoken to a couple HP customers complaining about HP
support and asking if BMC were as bad. I pointed them at arslist and the huge
support rant.

On that note, did anyone from BMC apologise for the poor support documented by
many users? I recall they were sending someone to rug to listen.

John,
At WWRUG, Jay Shankar, VP of support was there with her team of
directors, managers, etc. from support as well as engineering to hold
a session on customer support. They did a good job of explaining how
they were improving support models and introducing new interfaces and
improving their current model. They also answered questions from the
attendees and took feedback. I think they understand that there is
room for improvement and changes are coming. They may take some time
but the issues we are complaining about will be addressed.
So to answer your question, I don't think they were there to apologize
for anything but they were there to share and collect info and
feedback.
It's good to see they are listening and taking the feedback seriously.

Re: WWRUG BMC Sale Rumors

2012-10-20 Thread patchsk
If you see recent Gartner's chart, no body needs to tell BMC that they
cannot enjoy the comfortzone they used to because
   1. Their competitors are closing on and looking attractive.
   2. They are eating their own dog food by the way of remedy ondemand.
Now they will experience the same challenges that used to be only on the
customer side.
So they do not need to apologize anybody but themselves if they do not turn
around things and make customer's life easy.

This morning I log into BMC Support site to download a document and I
surprised to see now that they have a chat with support online.
So they are trying to do some improvements in this space but it needs to
go a long way than just online chat.

My two cents is that Oracle will be the buyer of BMC or parts of it one day.

I always felt that that would be a great match and bring the ARsystem up to
the next level.

I might not be right and it's just my two cents, but you never know.

Oracle or Dell for me... HP is struggling so I don't they will be major
players. IBM would not be interested. They are trying to get away from
applications/software. IMHO I think BMC will sell of the Remedy side and
concentrate on Cloud and infrastructure management. Offering on going
services on the cloud is a constant revenue stream.

I think RoD and Remedyforce is not bringing in that constant revenue they
were looking for.

ITSM 8 Unpatched Version Install

2012-10-20 Thread Bhupesh Gupta
Hi Friends -

How long does an ITSM installation take when all modules are selected at one go?

For me , its 21 hours and installation is still going on?

As an work-around my colleagues tried to install module by module
which seems to take less time.

Kindly Suggest.

Is there any docs, what BMC recommendation on timelines of installation is?
