I just counted the number of votes again.
Using raw numbers of the number of registrations on the list,
1% voted. In other words, under 50 votes.

Let’s see if we beat that on comments about keeping it before you
get too excited about it returning.

The only reason I am ending it is because I think the level of voting
reflects the level of interest;
and reflects that the arslist and participation in it is now for the most

IF there is a really big, and by big I mean say, 10% of the list,
That sends emails or creates a really long thread about continuing it,
I might be convinced to bring it back.

But with 2.5% voting, although they usually reach the right conclusion,

Unfortunately, I've lived in Colorado for my entire life, splitting the first
half with Denver, second half in Colorado Springs. Monster says Denver is
about 20% more expensive to live in than Colorado Springs, but I can't
necessarily agreebut I'll tell you that every time I've done a calculation
to move somewhere else, unless it's Podunk America, it's more expensive than
living hereanyone truly interested, I suggest as others haveare you
coming out on the week and going home on the weekend, or are you moving, if
moving, connect with a realtor and check out prices of places and determine
parts of town that you might want to live in, determine commute times,
etcthese are all general things that any responsible person needs to do
when looking to relocate anywhere in the country :)

I agree with Rick.. I have been to CO and love it there, but the weather can be
so unpredictable even in the month of April.. It can begin at 8:00 with
sunshine and at 70 degrees F, and you could have 6 to 12 inches of snow by 6:00
PM – this actually happened a couple of years ago when I was there, and then
next morning by 9:00 there was no sign that it snowed.. But it’s a lot better
earlier in the year when you know it will be cold most of the time, and a
little later in the year where its hot almost all the time..

Re: Automation of license tracking in Remedy

2012-10-24 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

I have published a small application to send a notification whenever any
license threshold you set are breached.

Just fill out your thresholds and notification address and download the
definitions: http://rrr.se/cgi/licnotify

If you want more details, you can turn on your user-logs and analyze these
with the free version of RRR|License, which will give you detailed
utilization statistics as well as tell you how well you have allocated
your licenses.

AD: The typical customer will free about 30% of their floating licenses by
using the full version of RRR|License, and this without the need to
release licenses.

Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se (ARSList MVP 2011)

Products from RRR Scandinavia (Best R.O.I. Award at WWRUG10+11+12):
* RRR|License - Not enough Remedy licenses? Save money by optimizing.
* RRR|Log - Performance issues or elusive bugs? Analyze your Remedy logs.
Find these products, and many free tools and utilities, at http://rrr.se.

 Hi All,

Hope you all are doing well :)

I have a requirement of automating the license tracking in Remedy.
So, what i have currently in Remedy(AR Server Version 7.5.004 ITSM suite
 7.6.001):

--Few forms such as manage license usage form(Vendor form from
BMC),historical form, and few regular forms.

What currently I am looking for, is to automate license tracking in Remedy
whether on form(through customizing) or through database level, which will
trigger me an email when the highest usage of license consumption is
reached, so that accordingly we will take necessary actions to release the
licenses(floating), which will optimize the license usage.

Another option on application level, is that, is there any form available
in Remedy where user's session data is stored like login time, log-out
 time
and if the answer is yes, what is the form name, and its schema id with
 respect to database.

If anybody having knowledge on it or in the past worked, please
 share,would
 be of great help.

 Regards,

 Hari

You need to VOTE on the thread: Bring back the ARSList MVP for 2013

2012-10-24 Thread Susan Palmer
Our goal is 1,000 votes. We are VERY SHORT of that number. Sadly this is
reflecting what was seen by Dan during the actual MVP voting this year.

If you want the ARSList MVP award to continue reply to the Bring back the
ARSList MVP for 2013 thread. You only need to hit reply, enter YES in the
body and send. Of course you're welcome to give an opinion but don't feel
obligated to confess that you didn't vote this year.

Thanks,

everything from database end has been checked, we did a re-org of the
tables and also rebuilt the indexes but still the issue is not resolved.

its takes around 25 seconds to refresh the data..

Has anyone faced such an issue.. ??? :-(

The fact that there have been over 400 different individuals posting to the
list since July 1st (at least according to my ARS List email folder and a quick
distinct query) and that small a number of votes is a sad commentary on people
in general.

Let's keep it going people

I just counted the number of votes again.
Using raw numbers of the number of registrations on the list,
1% voted. In other words, under 50 votes.

Let’s see if we beat that on comments about keeping it before you
get too excited about it returning.

The only reason I am ending it is because I think the level of voting reflects
the level of interest;
and reflects that the arslist and participation in it is now for the most part
taken for granted.

Activity on, and interest in, the actual list has not grown in the last couple
of years, but certainly has not diminished either!

Keep Calm, Carry On.

As I told LJ and the others in our midnight on discussion:
IF there is a really big, and by big I mean say, 10% of the list,
That sends emails or creates a really long thread about continuing it,
I might be convinced to bring it back.

But with 2.5% voting, although they usually reach the right conclusion,
It says to me that the ARSlist is a commodity now and there isn’t that much
interest in
The Award.

To Clarify and somewhat repeat what I said at the conference:

There is no longer a separate session for the ARSlist Awards, it is part of an
opening session dedicated to all awards

The ARSlist carries on, and for now as “just an email list”

Doing some Awards related to the ARSlist carries on
The ARSlist MVP Award is now retired
I will be doing the 20th Anniversary of the ARSlist next year.

Twinkies and Hawaii shirts have a life of their own.
I will be throwing a wrinkle into that next year as well ☺

2012-10-24 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I didn't vote and I'm not sure if I would next year or not either. Within my
current environment, we won the battle to get the other half of the
organization to use Remedy, but I'm spending nights and weekends getting things
set up for them, and as a result my time spent on the ARSList is mostly when I
need something specific, rather than helping others or participating in the
community aspects of the group. So for me, I'd say YES although
realistically I don't know if I'd participate or not.

What kind of searches are you doing? Are you searching for words in the

What if you left everything blank and only select Status = In Progress ?
Does the data come back quicker? The status field is indexed by default (I

Democracy is pointless if you don't use your right to vote.

I think the recognition is a great psychological incentive to many to post and
that by removing that incentive it my eventually lead to a decrease in
participation and activity on the list. So I would see no reason for not

Hopefully this will continue as a a really long thread about continuing it in

IF there is a really big, and by big I mean say, 10% of the list,

That sends emails or creates a really long thread about continuing it,

I might be convinced to bring it back.

But with 2.5% voting, although they usually reach the right conclusion,

It says to me that the ARSlist is a commodity now and there isn’t that much

The Award.

To Clarify and somewhat repeat what I said at the conference:

There is no longer a separate session for the ARSlist Awards, it is part of an

The ARSlist carries on, and for now as “just an email list”

Doing some Awards related to the ARSlist carries on

The ARSlist MVP Award is now retired

I will be doing the 20th Anniversary of the ARSlist next year.

Hi,

I have published a small application to send a notification whenever any
license threshold you set are breached.

Just fill out your thresholds and notification address and download the
definitions: http://rrr.se/cgi/licnotify

If you want more details, you can turn on your user-logs and analyze these with
the free version of RRR|License, which will give you detailed utilization
statistics as well as tell you how well you have allocated your licenses.

AD: The typical customer will free about 30% of their floating licenses by
using the full version of RRR|License, and this without the need to release
licenses.

So, what i have currently in Remedy(AR Server Version 7.5.004 ITSM
 suite
 7.6.001):

--Few forms such as manage license usage form(Vendor form from
BMC),historical form, and few regular forms.

What currently I am looking for, is to automate license tracking in
Remedy whether on form(through customizing) or through database level,
which will trigger me an email when the highest usage of license
consumption is reached, so that accordingly we will take necessary
actions to release the licenses(floating), which will optimize the license
 usage.

Another option on application level, is that, is there any form
available in Remedy where user's session data is stored like login
time, log-out time and if the answer is yes, what is the form name,
and its schema id with respect to database.

If anybody having knowledge on it or in the past worked, please
 share,would be of great help.

 Regards,

 Hari

As I told LJ and the others in our midnight on discussion:

IF there is a really big, and by big I mean say, 10% of the list,

That sends emails or creates a really long thread about continuing it,

I might be convinced to bring it back.

But with 2.5% voting, although they usually reach the right conclusion,

It says to me that the ARSlist is a commodity now and there isn’t that much
 interest in

 The Award.

To Clarify and somewhat repeat what I said at the conference:

There is no longer a separate session for the ARSlist Awards, it is part of
an opening session dedicated to all awards

The ARSlist carries on, and for now as “just an email list”

Doing some Awards related to the ARSlist carries on

The ARSlist MVP Award is now retired

I will be doing the 20th Anniversary of the ARSlist next year.

Zero Downtime (ZDT) idea available for voting on BMC Communities

2012-10-24 Thread Easter, David
For those who attended the Zero Downtime (ZDT) prototype proposal presentation
at WWRUG12, we've created an idea in the AR System area of the BMC Communities
to enable you to voice your support (or disapproval) and vote it up (or down)
in priority.

https://communities.bmc.com/communities/ideas/1421

To vote, you will need an account on BMC Communities - but you can get such
account for free; a current maintenance contract (i.e. Support ID) is not
required. Just sign up with a valid E-mail address.

If your organization would like to voice an even stronger opinion, please feel
free to have a senior member of your organization send me a direct E-mail at
david_eas...@bmc.commailto:david_eas...@bmc.com stating the positive business
case for implementing such an idea - or log an official Request For Enhancement
(RFE).

2012-10-24 Thread Rick Sharp
I've lived here for 10 years now, removed from Boston/Cape Cod after 4 years.

300+ days of sunshine each year.  Not it's not cold.  The sun warms it up, just
point west and south during the winter.  For reasonable rentals, there are
abundant.  A friend is leaving in Jan, and is renting his 3 bedroom home for
around 1300 per month.  It's about 5 years old, just north of the AF Academy,
and about 30 min or less from Peterson AFB.

Yea, temp gigs are a totally different animal.  Residence Inn in COS is about
$90/nt, less in Winter than Summer.  Flights to COS are also a bit more expense
because you can only get here from most/not all hubs.  From N-NJ, kinda
screwed, but it isn't too bad to fly to Denver and drive down.

I had a gig in NYC, the flight is so long I only came back every other weekend
and stretched it a bit on the return to get almost 3 days.

Cost of living really depends a lot on what you end up having to do when you
pick up that engagement and how long or short term it is..

*** Scenario 1 (which is the only one I have opted for so far)
I like to be back home in New Jersey every weekend as I really did not know
anyone in CO.. I worked on contracts ranging from 3 to 6 months.. This can be a
little expensive compared to other mid western states, as Denver happens to be
a place of touristic interests, which is why I think its not cheap to fly there
even if you make airline reservations well in advance.. Its always at an
average of about 100 to 150 bucks more than the same distance to most other
places that are not in high demand to travel to.. Hotels depending on how close
you are to Downtown Denver, may or may not be expensive. I have stayed at
corporate rates for as low as 119 a night to a high of near 200 a night - book
these in advance too as corporate rates tend to get sold out pretty quick - you
could always cancel if you do not need it later at no fee..

Dining out is fairly cheap compared to many places.. I used to buy a decent
Sushi / Sashimi dinner combo for less than 25 dollars which was quite a deal at
one of the most popular Sushi places in Denver. Or you can go fine dining to
that game food restaurant by the mountains and pay over 50 bucks a head.. So
its no more expensive than most other places in America depending on what you
choose to do.. Your average weekly cost in this scenario could go anywhere
between 1300 to 1900 depending on the time of the year. During the skiing
season, is when I have reimbursed close to 1900 a week for my weeks stay which
included Airlines, Hotels, Rental Car and Per Diem..

*** Scenario 2 (which I have never opted for because of its personal
inconvenience to me)
You temporarily relocate to Denver for the length of your engagement.. You
could rent a nice Condo or Townhouse not too far from Downtown (20 minutes
drive) at half the cost in rent as what you might rent its equivalent in New
Jersey or New York.. Yes I am talking about 1000 a month for a condo and maybe
under 1500 for a decent townhouse, and some of them may even come with cleaning
service for a marginally extra price.. In this scenario, if it’s a long term or
a permanent offer, you could even consider buying and I believe real estate is
inexpensive in many places in CO as compared to North Eastern states..

I agree with Rick.. I have been to CO and love it there, but the weather can be

I'd also suggest to run the same SQL that is executed (capture it from the
SQL logs) directly against the DB and measure the response time. If there is
a significant difference in timing where the DB search is returned much
quicker, it would immediately tell you if it’s a problem at the DB level or
something within Remedy.. if within Remedy it could be factors like (or a
combination of factors like) number of records returned, whether or not
chunking is enabled on the AR side, etc. etc..

You could find out the same thing by taking a combined SQL and API log, and
analyzing that log..

2012-10-24 Thread Joe Martin D'Souza

I prefixed this thread as OT as it started as factors to consider if you have a
possible upcoming Remedy engagement in CO...

What I meant is that the temperatures are a little unpredictable.. You can
begin the day with a feel of summer and the afternoon can end up winterish – or
vice versa.. There was even a day once where at 8:00 AM the weather girl was
announcing that it will be a warm day, and it had actually started to snow a
little outside, and 2 minutes later she was hmmm we just got reports that its
snowing in these areas.. On that day I recall it was really light snow, got
cold for only maybe an hour, and soon after got like a pleasant summer day.. So
you just do not know what to expect and its best to carry at least a light
jacket if not a heavy one with you at all times between February to March and
maybe a little into April...

I just counted the number of votes again.
Using raw numbers of the number of registrations on the list,
1% voted. In other words, under 50 votes.

Let’s see if we beat that on comments about keeping it before you
get too excited about it returning.

The only reason I am ending it is because I think the level of voting reflects
the level of interest;
and reflects that the arslist and participation in it is now for the most part
taken for granted.

AD: The typical customer will free about 30% of their floating licenses by
using the full version of RRR|License, and this without the need to release
licenses.

 Regards,

 Hari

ARERR 300 Malloc failed on server

2012-10-24 Thread Cecil, Ken
We are getting this error intermittently over the past couple of weeks. The
most consistent time it is occurring is when trying to attach a largish
attachment (around 4MB). Some have also received it when trying to open an
attachment. Yesterday for awhile we were getting the error anytime the SDA's
were trying to attach any attachment to an Incident. I ended up restarting the
ar server service.

Has anybody run across something similar? (Arerr 300 when working with
attachments)

I have a support request in with BMC and waiting for a reply. The KB articles I

Re: [EXTERNAL] OT: Colorado Springs, CO

2012-10-24 Thread Stroud, Natalie K
I live down in New Mexico, which makes Colorado our neighbor to the north and I
have visited Colorado Springs probably 8-10 times in my life. What Joe
describes is very much the way it is here as well - we’ve been known to have it
be hailing, snowing, the wind blowing, and the sun shining with a rainbow in
the distance all at the same time. Or you can be driving in the rain, and 2
miles down the road, there’s no rain and the sun is shining, and then 2 more
miles down the road, there’s rain with wind. One difference is that where I
am, in Albuquerque, our cold is generally a little less intense than it gets in
the Springs as we are protected by mountains in the east (Colorado Springs also
has mountains, but they are in the west as I recall), are lower in elevation,
and are closer to the equator to boot. New Mexico’s official state nickname is
“Land of Enchantment”, but due to this changeable weather phenomenon, I much
prefer “Land of Schizophrenic Weather” myself. :]

So yes, to work in either Colorado or New Mexico, one should be able to roll
with changing weather conditions. Do be advised, though, if you like either
beautiful outdoor scenery or outdoor activities like hiking, camping,
whitewater rafting, parasailing (on a lake), waterskiing, snow skiing (downhill
or cross country), snowboarding, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, or even
running or biking, both states afford many great opportunities you can take
advantage of.

Hotels depending on how

Ken,
It sounds like your arserver was bouncing up against a upper memory limit.
This can happen sometimes with memory leaks that don't properly release memory
once used. A restart of the service brings the system back down to initial
minimums of startup. You may want to make sure that you are on the most recent
patch of 7.5 to ensure that any known issues are taken care of properly.

modify display list of active link

2012-10-24 Thread Julie Sellers
My customer wants to add a column to the display list that is displayed by an
Active Link

when the 'If Multiple Requests Match' value is Display a List.
I've never had to do this before. Would someone be so kind as to point me in
the right direction?

This would be from a Set Fields action on the CTM:People form. They want to add
'Desk Location'.

Re: Zero Downtime (ZDT) idea available for voting on BMC Communities

2012-10-24 Thread Jason Miller
Jumping on David's coattails and while voting is such at hot topic... BMC
has given us a capability we have been asking for for years. In the past
we have asked BMC to allow us the ability to submit enhancement ideas, for
those ideas to be visible to others and to allow us to comment/vote on
them. While I don't believe the existing RFE process has changed BMC is
giving us a place to put these ideas and work on them together. If it is a
success it might lead to a change in the RFE process.

I am happy to see David's idea submitted a few days ago is already at 90
yes votes. The ideas feature has been available for Remedy/AR System for a
few weeks now and has been fairly stagnant aside from a few people,
including a certain MVP. Like the ARSList MVP award use it or lose it
Listers.

Yes, it is *not *the ARSList and yes it is another login but it is finally
an opportunity to easily post ideas you have (without having to send logs
to support) where others can see them and comment to make the initial idea
even better.

For anybody working with Remedy for more than a couple of years and couple
of brand changes the sections on BMC Communities are confusing. In Product
Forums what is the difference between BMC Remedy AR System under BMC
Atrium Platform and the BMC Remedy top section. Matt explains it a blog
post Tuesday Tip: Finding WWRUG
Resourceshttps://communities.bmc.com/communities/community/about/blog/2012/10/23/tuesday-tip-finding-wwrug-resources
which
also links to an older blog post by David Easter about Company, brand,
product,

While I think the AR Server will always be Remedy to many of us at least
we now have a map of what BMC is thinking.

Re: ARERR 300 Malloc failed on server

HI David,

Can you give us some more detail on what it means when access rights to a
newly-created field are not properly defined? It is a bit bothersome to
think 1) a lack of permissions can cause memory issues 2) that it is easy
to not properly define a field which would cause memory issues.

The display list from AL mulitple match comes from the from results list.
So you need to add the desk locaiton to the results list on People form.
If you do not want to do that then change the workflow to use a SQL select
statement.

Since you did not know about that, you may also want to know that the sort
order on that ‘Display as a List’ list is dictated by the sort order what you
use on the Results List.. so if you choose a field other than the 3 that appear
on there (first 3 fields), then your sort order on that list may appear a
little funny and may not make sense to you.. So try to keep your field sorting
on the first 3 fields that appear on that..

I had that happen to me a lng time ago (3.2 days I think) and I wondered
for the longest time why is the sorting so absurd...

Re: ARERR 300 Malloc failed on server

2012-10-24 Thread Jason Miller
AR 7.5 on Windows only has 32-bit binaries available. Even though the OS
is 64-bit with 10gb arserver.exe will never take much more memory than you
are seeing it use. It could be running out of room within its 32-bit
realm. Although I wouldn't think a 4mb attachment should not be enough to
push it over the edge.

 Ken,
It sounds like your arserver was bouncing up against a upper memory limit.
This can happen sometimes with memory leaks that don't properly release
memory once used. A restart of the service brings the system back down to
initial minimums of startup. You may want to make sure that you are on the
most recent patch of 7.5 to ensure that any known issues are taken care of
 properly.

To add another wrinkle to that, if you use search menus in SRM, the data
that appears in that drop down is also based on the sorting of your results
list on a specific form. I had this happen when displaying a list of
Incident templates from hpd:template and it the sorting had no order to it.
It turned out the form's results list was sorted by the sort order field.

Ken,
If you were to make a change in Dev studio like add a field or modify a
filter, do you see this error pop up from a user perspective as well? When
you do make a change, the memory usage of the arserver process should go up
significantly. I would be curious to know if you start seeing the malloc
errors when this happens.

I agree with Rick.. I have been to CO and love it there, but the weather
can be so unpredictable even in the month of April.. It can begin at 8:00
with sunshine and at 70 degrees F, and you could have 6 to 12 inches of
snow by 6:00 PM – this actually happened a couple of years ago when I was
there, and then next morning by 9:00 there was no sign that it snowed..
But it’s a lot better earlier in the year when you know it will be cold
most of the time, and a little later in the year where its hot almost all

Re: Watching the news BMC.

2012-10-24 Thread Saji Philip
I understand Dell was in serious talks awhile back. If they are
entertaining suitors, it would seem serious. BMC stocks has been stagnant
for a few years now. I heard RoD and RemedyForce is not bringing in the
continuous revenue they were looking for, maybe a change in leadership is
needed and or a refocus on their offerings. Right now BMC is all over the
place. But Remedy is still the King of the Hill...

Joe, I just want to point out that you do know someone in Colorado. Just
not in the Springs. Unless you know LJ.

Cost of living really depends a lot on what you end up having to do when
you pick up that engagement and how long or short term it is..

*** Scenario 1 (which is the only one I have opted for so far)
I like to be back home in New Jersey every weekend as I really did not
know anyone in CO.. I worked on contracts ranging from 3 to 6 months.. This
can be a little expensive compared to other mid western states, as Denver
happens to be a place of touristic interests, which is why I think its not
cheap to fly there even if you make airline reservations well in advance..
Its always at an average of about 100 to 150 bucks more than the same
distance to most other places that are not in high demand to travel to..
Hotels depending on how close you are to Downtown Denver, may or may not be
expensive. I have stayed at corporate rates for as low as 119 a night to a
high of near 200 a night - book these in advance too as corporate rates
tend to get sold out pretty quick - you could always cancel if you do not
need it later at no fee..

Dining out is fairly cheap compared to many places.. I used to buy a
decent Sushi / Sashimi dinner combo for less than 25 dollars which was
quite a deal at one of the most popular Sushi places in Denver. Or you can
go fine dining to that game food restaurant by the mountains and pay over
50 bucks a head.. So its no more expensive than most other places in
America depending on what you choose to do.. Your average weekly cost in
this scenario could go anywhere between 1300 to 1900 depending on the time
of the year. During the skiing season, is when I have reimbursed close to
1900 a week for my weeks stay which included Airlines, Hotels, Rental Car
 and Per Diem..

*** Scenario 2 (which I have never opted for because of its personal
 inconvenience to me)
You temporarily relocate to Denver for the length of your engagement.. You
could rent a nice Condo or Townhouse not too far from Downtown (20 minutes
drive) at half the cost in rent as what you might rent its equivalent in
New Jersey or New York.. Yes I am talking about 1000 a month for a condo
and maybe under 1500 for a decent townhouse, and some of them may even come
with cleaning service for a marginally extra price.. In this scenario, if
it’s a long term or a permanent offer, you could even consider buying and I
believe real estate is inexpensive in many places in CO as compared to
 North Eastern states..

I've heard it's fairly expensive to live out there. How does cost of
living stack up to the rest of the country?

I agree with Rick.. I have been to CO and love it there, but the weather
can be so unpredictable even in the month of April.. It can begin at 8:00
with sunshine and at 70 degrees F, and you could have 6 to 12 inches of
snow by 6:00 PM – this actually happened a couple of years ago when I was
there, and then next morning by 9:00 there was no sign that it snowed.. But
it’s a lot better earlier in the year when you know it will be cold most of
the time, and a little later in the year where its hot almost all the time..

 Factors:
 1) Colorado Springs is a beautiful place, but is kinda remote and not
 everyone's cup of tea.
 2) Spending the winter someplace cold might not appeal to some.
 3) Yes, the market is pretty strong.
