Re: Consuming web services fails.

2011-08-22 Thread Ganga Prasad
Prasanth,
ARServer is Located in a different domain and the SharePoint is located in
different one.
And further due to resource restriction, we have opened the port from the
ARServer only(Thats how we are able to telnet on the port ). It wont
open in any browser because the rule is not set for the network but for the
IP where ARServer is located.

Our concern is when we can telnet from the OS and not able to consume from
filter, are we missing any check point..

Selective field modification Status

2009-02-12 Thread Ganga Prasad
Hello There,

I am playing with good and unique Requirement. Almost exhausted my mind. Any
idea would be appriciate..

I have a Regular Form with around 600 fields. Out of the 50 are Visible
filed to user, 300 workflow purpose field and rest can be viewed by going to
other display only forms via clicking different button.

I came across a requirement where it says if ONLY 4 Particular fields are
modified, then it should not show any message Else it should show a pup-up
while saving. Currently we are showing the pup-up on every modify.

Logically requirement would look as below

Lets call the 4 field as Group1 fields and the rest 596 fields as Group2
fields
any/all G1 fields modified + any/all G2 fields modified - message should
display
any/all G1 fields modified + any G2 fields *NOT *modified - message should

any/all G1 fields *NOT *modified + any/all G2 fields modified - message

You can do this with a filter. The problem is checking the DB

I would imagine that there would be a limit on the filter
 qualification.
You can probably break it up into multiple filters.
The qualification would look something like this:

 'Field1' != 'DB.Field1'
This compares the field value in the current transaction to what is
 stored in the database.

You would need to do this for all your G2 fields. It could get kind
of hairy. You would need to check if any of the G2 fields have
 changed:
 'G2Field1' != 'DB.G2Field1' OR 'G2Field2' != 'DB.G2Field2'   ...
 'G2Field600' != 'DB.G2Field600'
This would trigger the message regardless of any G1 fields changing.
You don't even need to check if any of the G1 fields changed or not.

 Ganga,

You did not mention what version of AR System your using So YMMV...

If this message can be issued by a filter then I would look into this
 feature.

 Ref: BasicGuide-630.2006.05.09.pdf
 Section: Appendix B—Workflow extras
 Pg: 619

 Application-Copy-Field-Value target_field_ID source_field_ID

Then you could set up a data driven way to do the following:
) Loop over the data in the two sets of fields (both group1 and group2)
  * You can move the value from the current field into a temp field
  * You can use SQL to get the DB value for that field from the DB
 into a second temp field
  * You can see if the two tmp fields are different, if so set the
change flag for the group for the selected field group.

) Use the two flag fields that you have set and use the logic you have
 posted in your question.

This however will be a performance drag.
You will be making 600 trips from the application server to the db
during every Modify. Not to mention the processing time to loop over,
let us say 10 filters per loop, 6000 more filters during each and
 every Modify.

However... here is another entirely different approach...

Use the Log to File action from a filter. Then write something that
parses the output of that file format and returns an indicator if
field from either of the two groups were in the Log to File entry.
The return value could be a Y or N for each group and ordered by
Group1 then Group 2. So the return values would be one of the
 following:
YY, (Yes for Group1, Yes for Group2)
YN, (Yes for Group1, No for Group2)
NY, ( No for Group1, Yes for Group2)
NN, ( No for Group1, No for Group2)

  So the idea would be:
  Filter N:
If Action: 1 -- Log to File
  If Action: 2 --'Results_field' =
  $ PROCESS $  run_your_script $Request_ID_to_Check_Log_file_for$
  Filter N+1:
   Run If: 'Results_field' = YY OR 'Results_field' = NY
 If action: Message: Bla...

But that requires a bit of development outside of AR too.

I think their may even be an option to use v7.1 Audit features too.
But that might be harder than it looks given when the Audit feature is
triggered. ( But maybe you could use it with After Modify Active
Links if that would meet the need.)

 HTH.

However, I am also skeptical that a Filter based solution will work
for you given that you referenced the change flag not being enabled.
Maybe your trying to prompt the user and ask them a question rather
than just using a Message action?

 Anyways.. just some thoughts.

Selection List Window Behaviour

2008-12-01 Thread Ganga Prasad
Hi There,
I have a tricky problem here

I have a Character Field and a Button Beside that on my main form.
When I Click the button I am supposed to go back to a BackEnd form and get
the relevant data and show in a Selection List.
This is implemented with Active Link - Set Field...

The feature is behaving as expected...

Set up : I have the Field Length of 30 in each main form and BackEnd form. I
have data with 30 Char each in BackEnd Form.

Problem :: In my selection list I can see only 15 Characters...
To the strange, once I am clicking on any row, all the 30 Characters are
getting reflected on to the main form

No code to truncate the characters on Selection list

Any suggestion, how I can retain all my 30 characters on the Selection List
would be great

My Env : ARS 7.01, ORACLE 10G, NO ITSM

I tried in a Different Env ARS 6.3 and OracleXE, It worked fine for me, It
showed all the 30 character in the Selection List window..

So I strongly feel it should be a preference issue but I found nothing in
ARS Documents so seeking your help here..

I have not tested this... but it is my understanding that the Admin

the file. ( Think tar file.)

However, if you parse the file then your code should be able to make
this a trivial job of this. ( And I even think this task would not be
that hard to do.) Every object starts with a ^begin [schema|active
link|filter|escalation|container|...]$ and ends with an ^end$. The
 first line like ^ timestamp : epoch_seconds_value_here$
after the begin marker is the time that the object was _last changed_.
So if your script can keep track of the largest integer It finds for
each object then pull it should be the merged files as you want.

 HTH.

But personally I would take a very different tact to the problem.
( There are some down sides to this approach, but I think it makes
 more sense too.)

Step 1) I would create one packing list and then export all the
objects at the same time. ( Your developer(s) can do this.)
Step 2) Test the packing list functionality. (Testing group can do that)
Step 2a) If the tests fail return to Step1.( file that was
 delivered needs fixed)
Step 3) Since the test worked... deploy the file to production.

The easiest way I have figured out to migrate server objects from one
server to another is to sort the objects by date modified, highlight the
recently modified object(s) you need to migrate and then right click on one
of them and export to a def file. I start with Forms then go on to the
remaining objects. You can specify the same file to export to and click on
the append button to add the new object type to the existing file. If you
know all of the objects you need to migrate are related to specific forms,
you can view by those forms and then the refresh of the object lists will
 take less time.

Knowing Row number in table based on a value

2008-05-12 Thread Ganga Prasad
Hi List
I am in mid of a requirement where I need to walk through every row to get
my particular row. Here the data to the table is coming from external Data
Base(not of much concern about the source). This external Data Base returns
700-800 rows at once. And walking through 800 rows is really time consuming
it takes minutes to find my particular data. Thats why I thought of
implementing Binary search in Remedy. It will considerably reduce the time
to some seconds. Can eny one give some starting idea for the same.. ??

Syntactically my requirement is :
I will be returned with 800 rows. I need to go to the particular row where
coumn5 value = XYZ

More ever if anyone can suggest how to come to know the row number of row
that contain PQR in its column8.

2008-05-12 Thread Ganga Prasad
Yes Your idea seems good as long as I have the capability to query the
Databse. But here as I said the data to the table is coming from external
database. I access the web services published by the database using ARSystem
plugin c++ code. I don't have any control as the SQL is implemented in the
Dabase itself. I can only see the data returned from the external source.
Once it reaches my Table i need to to the whole stuff... Any good Idea for
this ??

just add a Where clause to the SQL

Switching between Windows

2008-04-29 Thread Ganga Prasad
Hi List
I have a funny requirement and I am seeking some help to make it easier. Here
my requirement goes..
I have 6-7 display only forms. I have a main Regular form
My requirement is that I need to traverse through those display only field
and come back to my Main from collecting all the input given by the user.
Here is the behavior how the windows will open.
0. I have continue, Previous, Cancel, OK button on each form
1. On clicking continue The windows will open depending on the value present
in the form Eg.If In 1st window I enter the value Z then 2nd window
should open. At the same in 1st window if I enter Value Y then 3rd window
should open.
2. On open of every display-only form the parent Display-only form should
get closed eg. 1st window should close as soon as any other (2nd or 3rd)
window opens.
3. On click of previous, the parent of the form should re-open.(Again Step 1
should be in place)
4 On click of OK every value entered in different fields entered now should
mapped to my Main form
5. On cancel on any display- only form the window should close and nothing
should be mapped.

Please keep in mind that I may require to implement for more than 6-7 form
also. Try to give generic answer independent of number of windows.

 Hi Ganga

The key to doing this is to open each of your input screens as a dialog
and to use the Window Open mappings to pass the values from the current form
to the next one. The fields from all previous input screens need to exist
on the next form to be opened (they can be hidden) so that you can retain
the earlier values. The final input screen also needs Window Close mappings
to pass all the values back to the main form.

At each transition, the active link that does a window open action to open
the next form and pass the current values through can be followed by a Close
Window action which will close the current input screen as the new one
 opens.

  Hi all

Is there any difference between NULL and in a character field ??
 *My Scenario*
I have a character field. The value to the character field is supposed to
come from a already existing backend from.
 *My Requirement.*
On saving I should not be able to save any value in the character field
other than whatever record is present in the BACKEND Form
 *My Solution*
I wrote a filter (RUNIF : character field != NULL) which will go for a
SQL. The SQL will find out the present value in the ticket with the BACKEND
record. Once it is finding, it will make a flag field with count of records
found (Usually 1). If no backend records found then it will make the flag 0(
 zero matching records)
The very next filter will check for the value in the Flag field; If it is
0 then give a error message
 *My problem
*It is working as expected as long as I am opening my Remedy client and
 save the ticket.
But when I am trying to create a ticket in my application through another
application by XML without passing the value to the character field it is
throwing an error to the originating system. One strange thing is that if in
the xml if i am removing the characterfield completly; it is working fine.
 *My Approach*
I approached with hit and trial method that before going for SQL I set the
character field NULL if it is . Now it is working fine.
 *My Doubt*
Is this the way remedy should behave ?? is there any diff between NULL and
  ??

Assuming you are using ITSM 7.x here is the logic to generate the Incident

Step 1: Write a filter on Submit to generate an Instance ID if the field

Step 2: Write another filter to push the Instance ID to the NUM Generator
form. Don't forget to override the filter phasing.

Step 3: Write another filter to set the Incident ID field from the NUM

I used this workflow to generate the IDs in sequence.

What is happening is the following. When Ganga opens an Incident (or
Change), workflow performs a push to a Ticket Num Generator form which
generates a request ID for that form just like we're used to. Workflow then
sets the Request ID field (NOT field ID 1) for the Incident (or Change)
form to $LASTID$. If the Incident (or Change) is saved then the Request ID
is used. If the Incident was not saved the Request ID is abandoned. The next
time Ganga opens the form the process is repeated. If the previous (by
anyone) Request ID was used the current Request ID is one number greater
than the previous. If the previous Request ID was abandoned there will be a
  gap.
