Re: Adding Menus to AST forms

2010-05-03 Thread P Romain ARSlist
These fields are attributes in the CMDB.

I'd suggest adding $NULL$ menus to the fields via the class manager or CMDB
driver then use active link(s) on the AST form(s) to add the menu(s) you
need.

If you later change your mind about the menus, or change the menu names,
then you then only need to modify workflow, not CMDB attributes.

BTW, I found during an upgrade from CMDB 2.1 to 7.6 that $NULL$ menus I'd
added to these attributes were removed so be prepared to re-apply this
change if you ever version-up.

Cheers

Hi,

I'd like to add a menu to the Floor and Room fields on all the AST forms in
Asset Management (ITSM 7.0.3, ARS 7.1, CMDB 2.1). Short of opening every
form, and adding the menus, is there an easier way? Those fields don't
already have any menu (not even a null menu), so I can't use an active link
to attach them. (the menus have already been created for something else)

Can I ask why you want to use a Windows cluster?

We have one running (ITSM 7, CMDB 2.1) but since one server is always off

We are soon to remove the cluster and replace it with a server group so that
both computers can be used together to improve performance.

Hi Fellow Listers

Does anyone have any experience in setting up ARS 7.5/CMDB+ITSM7.6 on a
windows cluster. We are using 2008 server.

Alternatively, does anyone have the white paper called "AR Server in a
clustered server environment"? I searched all over the BMC support site +

unfortunately does not cover clusters.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried turning on the server group logs?

It's a while since I did this but I seem to remember that if the server
group is set up correctly then you see the lower processes going to sleep on
the lower ranked servers. You can also see the polling between servers
checking that processes are running. You then see the effect of shutting a
server down in the logs of the other server(s).

All processes in the server group should be running at all times. Nothing
will start automatically. As I understand it, the way the server group
works is that the backend process apps (e.g., e-mail) will stay awake but in
a standby state. They periodically poll the database to see if they need to
take over. If they do, then they start processing until the primary becomes
available again.

If you didn't have the Server B processes running, then you need to start

belong to a server group?).

That's what would be logical, but I went from not being able to load the CI

Flash was installed on the server's browser. I told BMC support about this,

You don't need flash on the mid-tier server itself, just on all the

Personally I've never had any good experiences with the sync functionality.

What I've done is to export the asset form of the super class to an xml file
then edit the about 5 attributes in the xml to make it specific to the new
class.

Then import the xml file and share all the super class workflow with it.

After that add any new attributes for the new class.

Re: Topology Dataset Discovery 1.6

2010-02-22 Thread P Romain ARSlist
What exactly is your colleague trying to achieve by manually updating CIs in
the topo dataset?

CIs are created in this dataset by the discovery tool when they are first
discovered.

The discovery tool has a policy to deal with CIs that it once discovered but
which it now no longer finds.

The default is that if a CI is not found for three consecutive scans then
the CI is soft deleted in the CMDB during synchronisation.

When a CI is soft deleted all relationships are also soft deleted. This is
happening when your colleague updates the CIs manually.

The errors you are getting may be because the discovery tool has found a new
child CI related to one that your colleague has manually deleted.

The sync process will create the new child CI and then try and create the
relationship.

Because the parent is soft deleted you will get the error.

The solution is for the topo dataset only to be updated by the discovery
tool.

Cheers

You have most of the concept. No you cannot go into the TOPO dataset and set
the entry as marked as deleted since the TOPO API call was not written to
allow for this to work. I have worked with the RE since version 2.0 and have
not had any problems. I would impress on the developer that you are working
with that BMC Support will not support the population by scripts and when
they want to upgrade to Atrium Core 7.5 or later and want to use the

My understanding is that TOPO is updated directly from the discovery and I
would not go into TOPO to set the assets as MarkAsDeleted, however I was

receving several of these errors: "cannot set to as Markasdeleted to "NO"

Are we getting this error because we are doing something wrong?

Re: EIE Exchange field mapping

2010-01-07 Thread P Romain ARSlist
To get the benefit of the trusted dataset you'd need to map the tier 1-3
values to constants in your data exchange.

This is what, for example, BMC Configuration Discovery does (all computer
systems are Hardware, Processing Unit, Server).

You may be able to add all possible computer systems, with appropriate
tiering, to the product catalog. The product name/manufacturer combination
should then fetch the correct tiering for each computer created.

When a new type of computer is discovered the trusted dataset will allow a
new product catalog entry to be created automatically and the computer will
be saved without error. You could then monitor the product catalog for new
entries with the default tiering and deal with these by changing the tier
values and updating the computer CIs.

Discovery returns only what it finds so you may need to take care of
multiple different ways of referring to the same manufacturer (eg MS,
Microsoft, Microsoft Inc, etc) and multiple ways of referring to the same
computer model.

The CMDB normalisation engine uses product and manufacturer aliases to deal
with this. The addition of a few filters in CMDB 2.1 would allow you to do
the same using the existing manufacture and product alias forms.

Cheers

Peter

Also, if it's CMDB 2.1 or earlier, you can make the dataset you're importing
to a Trusted Dataset. This will automatically build the Product Catalog
entries if it doesn't find an existing catalog record.

To do this, just create a record in the Trusted Dataset form, adding your
dataset.

It would help to know the versions you have installed.

Turn on filter logging and try and create an entry manually in the
BMC.CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem form using some sample data you are getting
from SMS.

The logs will reveal where the problem is.

I suspect that the model/manufacturer is being looked up in the
PCT:ProductCatalog form and, because no value(s) exist for the computers
coming from SMS, the tiering is being left null.

This assumes you are on CMDB 2.1 or earlier. CMDB 7.5 uses the
normalisation engine which you can configure to continue even if the
categorisation isn't found.

You must also be mapping the dataset value otherwise the import will fail.

Just a quick question. Does anyone know why after a server restart, Atrium
trys to promote Sandbox changes even though I didn't initiate it. Is there
a way to cancel this process?

Hi Leonard,

I've played around a little in this area but didn't manage to get the result
I wanted before needing to move to other things but maybe you can crack it.

Try editing the default config.xml file for the CI Viewer entry in the Data
Visualization Definition form.

Add a new line under the MNU_VIEW line to create a new menu item and get it
to signal the calling form using action="CIRV_NOTIFY_AR"

I could get the menu item added and, using an active link on the CMDB
Console form firing on event with no Runif to display a message showing the
$EVENTTYPE$ and $EVENTDATA$ keywords, I could see the instance id of the CI
selected in the CI Viewer. I couldn't, however, get the active link to
trigger when my new menu item was selected.

If you can get this to work then you should be able to add the workflow to
the CMDB Console form to open the AST forms.

Look in the CMDB Developers Guide to get more info about this.

Don't forget to re-start Tomcat or whatever other servelet engine you are
using when you modify the attachment in the Data Visualization Definition
form.

Best of luck!

Cheers

Hello list.

Environment:

OS: Sun OS 5.9

DB: Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 - 64bi

AR Server v7.1 (patch 007)

AR Mid Tier v7.1.0.007

Atrium CMDB v2.1.0.005

ITSM v7.03 (patch 007)

I have a requirement to open the related "AST." form rather than the "BMC."
class form when a user right clicks on a object within the CI Viewer and
selects [View] from the menu to open the CI. The "AST." form should only be
displayed if launched from within the CI Viewer. The normal "BMC." class
form should be opened when interacting directly with the CMDB.

Here's what I have so far:

1.I added a new (Display Only) attribute to "BaseElement" named
"z1D_CI_Action"

2.On "Window Open", I need to set this field with a value of "CI_VIEWER"
ONLY if the form was opened from within the CI Viewer.

a.This is where the problem exist. I cannot figure out how to identify
that the form was opened via the CI Viewer.

b.With Active Link logging on, the first thing that shows up in the log,
is the "On Window Open" condition, which is the same regardless to if the
form was open from the CI Viewer or direct interaction with the CMDB.

3.If I set the flag field with "CI_VIEWER", I can then have AL workflow
perform a lookup in "SHR:SchemaNames" to get the AST form name, then open
that form. Otherwise, the normal BMC class form is opened.

Currently, the flag field is always set, so the AST form is always opened
(which is not what we want). Has anyone successfully implemented such a
customization? Or, does anyone know how I can capture the menu selection
event from the CI Viewer?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

In Patch 1 only admin users could copy CIs to the sandbox.

I noticed that this was fixed in Patch 2 but that after accepting the dialog

If this is what you are seeing then it seems like a bug that needs to be

Re: How to export data (PROCESSES) from BMC Remedy User tool

The same issue occurred with AIE and Recon jobs.

In 7.5 this is eased by the new incarnation of the Import Tool which can use
any field as a key field (such as instanceid for recon jobs).

No worries Rick. Indeed that was the point that Axton was trying to make.
I know the point well as I've done had to do many of these tasks myself.

The only problem with your approach you suggest is that the original problem
of incorrect references in the data is not addressed. To extend your idea
to handle that would require importing into staging forms and all the
necessary filters to push to the real forms, or, of-course, using the API.

IF and only if you maintain request ids, then this step could be avoided.
Otherwise, you'll be faced with either the API or the above development
project. I have found maintaining Ids across systems to be virtually
impossible once systems go live.

To whit, see the Data Management Tool to load foundation data. This is a
huge tool with an inordinate number of forms and filters and took a
horrendous amount of time to develop and comes with its own set of patches
and fixes. All this just to load data into an application?

Yes, the API would solve the problem nicely. But that carries the
requirement to have a programmer - most ARS administrators are not
programmers - and costs and time associated with maintaining source code.

With Meta-Update, any ARS administrator/developer/consultant can develop API
level scripts in very short order. Many scripts are already developed. It
is this development time that Meta-Update saves.

In addition, Meta-Update is replete with value transformation functions in
its assignments, including a LookUp facility, a regex pattern extracts, SQL,
ARS queries and the like. It can read CSV files that Excel or the BMC
Import tool cannot. It can export CSV files and other files.

All these result in a company gaining incredible control over ITSM
foundation and other data with minimal development. Why don't you take a
look yourself?

Cheers
Ben

Ben,

Thank you for pointing out that your third party product (from
softwaretoolhouse.com) has a feature that might be able to help.

I think the point that Axton was trying to make is that the out of the box
application does not offer such a feature. I am sure that Axton (or any
other programmer) could also write an ARS API based program
(C, Java, Perl) to do the task as well. But it is nice to know that
a software manufacturer out there saw a need and produced a tool to make
this easier to do too.

Krishna,

I would also suggest an alternate approach to all of this as well. I must
admit that it is a bit half baked, and has some of it's own downsides. (Like
not being fully tested on my part.) But I think the idea is worth kicking
out there

What about this as an approach to try to use the Out of the box features and
not have to use programming to get the job done?

) Create a Deployable application with NO OBJECTS other than DATA.
) Create queries for the forms that would get all of the needed data from
the various forms.
) Export the application from Server A.
) Import the application to Server B.

I think the data features of Deployable applications let you export and
import the data in a way that would let you do what Axton was suggesting. If
so then BMC could release such a def file "add on" and it simply could be
used by customers to "skim data" from one server to the other. Obviously
this approach would require the use of the Admin Tool (er... Dev Studio) to
get the job done. However, I would also think that BMC could use RIK (or
maybe just the Driver script) to allow customers to be able to schedule
such a transfer of data too.

Like I said... just another thought on how to achieve this goal.

I hope some of these responses are helpful. As you can tell, after defining
what you are trying to do, this community can be creative. :)

I hope the suggestions/ideas help.

Tina,

If you restart your web server then the count resets.

After that, if anyone opens a form with a flashboard on it then as the
flashboard displays the flashboard count will increment.

When 5 flashboards have been displayed then an attempt to view a 6th will
give the message you see.

You can control this by restarting the web server then immediately opening
the five flashboards you want users to see.

BMC FD/TD Discovery creates an IP Endpoint class for the IP and a LAN
Endpoint CI for the MAC address and relates these together (dependency where
the MAC is the parent if I remember right). It relates these two CIs to the

If you want to pull the best practice card then I'd go with the above.

You can also use the LAN EndPoint class.
I actually prefer the LAN Endpoint class instead of the IP EndPoint class
for this situation, since the LAN EndPoint has the MAC Address; you can use
the Group Address field for the subnet mask; another useful field is the
Alias Addresses, in which you can store multiple virtual IPs.

I believe the IP Endpoint class is intended to document things like IP
addresses. Adding an attribute for IP address is probably not a good
solution, unless you know that the device will only have one (or some
maximum number of) IP address(es). As noted in someone else's reply, there
is a field for domain name on the computer system class already.

Hi Louise,

At one customer I added an IP attribute to computer system because they also
weren't interested in doing anything with this data except store it.

At other customers we've used the IP Endpoint class primarily because that's
where BMC Discovery puts this data. Different IPs were differentiated by
Tier 3.

So, IMHO either option is OK.

Domain name is an attribute on computer system.

For the pioneers out there trying out the new CMDB 7.5 console and having or
running into issues (like me):
You can still use the previous 2.1 cmdb console.
You just need top open the CMDB:Console form directly. According to BMC
support, this is fully supported.

The configuration data forms have apparently not changed in 7.5, that's why
you can use the 2.1 console. The 7.5 CMDB console is essentially a new GUI
(very snazzy BTW).

The cmdb product manager deserves much praise for this: it's already a fair
learning curve to know and use the 2.x cmdb console functions effectively,
so thankfully that knowledge and know-how is not thrown away with the 7.5
cmdb manager. It is very smart and forward looking to decouple the
"functional" and "presentation" layers, so kudos to whoever it was.

That is correct. The Class Manager console was used. cmdb2asset is no longer

with OOTB facilities. The IDs were auto-assigned. (bad!) and (worse) so where

Ben,

You said something that I would like clarification on:

any attributes (of our hand-constructed classes using default Admin defined
field ids)

(italics added) Just to be certain I’m understanding things correctly, did you
create these classes using the CMDB console using the functionality there for
creating classes and adding attributes to them, or did you do any of this work
in the Admin tool? While I haven’t added any new classes, I have added a fair
number of attributes to existing classes (although we used IDs specified from a
specific range of IDs that we were using, rather than letting the system
auto-assign IDs), and we never had a problem with the system not bringing these
attributes into the sandbox, which is something that I think should be someone
analogous to what you’re trying to do in the end. While I’m not an expert on
what happens when you use a sample schema, I would expect that the fact that
“by ID” is selected, it should bring across all fields with matching IDs
regardless of whether or not they’re in the sample schema – which it seem would
have to be the case or the majority of the OOB classes would have this same
issue.

Well, I guess there’s no useful information in the paragraph above. I guess I
really just want to confirm that the classes were all created using the CMDB
console exclusively, and that any AST forms used to work with those classes
were created using the CMDB2Asset utility so that the IDs of the fields on the
asset forms and the CMDB forms all match up, regardless of whether they’re OOB
or custom.

Thanks Guys,

I agree with you. I noticed the part that doesn't make sense but believe it or
not I have a reasonable reason for using it. As for auditing, we've had our
share of issues with it but are (over) using it.

I disabled the delete activity in the Sandbox reconciliation job so that when a
CI in Production (Gold?) is touched by a person, I can have our standard
reconciliation job basically use the equal Sandbox CI at a higher precedence
and then more or less cancel the normal discovered CI in the recon job. When
that normal discovered CI has "caught up" to the human modified CI, in a set of
configured fields I might add, then the Sandbox CI is deleted and the CI is no
longer human modified and participates in reconciliation updates as normal. I
also cannot add an attribute indicating the human modification state to
BaseElement.

The Sandbox indeed makes no sense whatsoever as implemented with the OOTB
workflow. The Updated CI is pushed (supposedly) to the Sandbox, and then
immediately reconciled to production AND deleted from Sandbox. Also note the
comments about the NULL Option in the OOTB Job. This may be there to cover the
issue I encountered below.

We now have a ticket with BMC but alas, I am going to have to do something to
make it work sooner than I expect a response or a fix. Perhaps the Overlay
feature works better?

I totally agree with Lyle.

It just does not make sense to have a sandbox that will be immediately
reconciled to production dataset. Besides restricting the updates via
permissions or field properties, I would add that enabling auditing on the
fields that can be updated is a good complement, from a control/audit
perspective. So with access control and auditing, you really don't need a
sandbox, and you are going to gain a lot in terms of reducing complexity,
maintenance, etc.

Re: Merging of non-reconciled child CIs

2008-10-31 Thread P Romain ARSlist
Matt,

The CMDB does exactly what I think you want it to do regarding
reconciliation (but not the inheriting of owenership, etc).

You have presumably already set up an identification job for the computer
system class and set the auto-identify off.

Set up another identification job for base element with auto-identify on.

Then, when the parent computer system is identified and merged so will all
the children that are weakly related to it. BMC refers to the parent and
weak children as a composite object.

Any children that are related by strong relationships will auto-identify and
merge regardless of the parent.

Cheers

Peter

The difficulty is ascertaining what a child ci is. Could be dependant or

a compare job prior to merge and execute workflow to set an attribute flag

Matt,

It sounds like the functionality I am looking for is not there. I was hoping
for some kind of middle ground between manually adding every CI into BMC
ASSET then reconciling to get the attributes synced up (very slow), or
auto-identifying all CIs in the discovery dataset and firehosing them all
into BMC ASSET (very fast, but difficult to validate).

If you were only forced to manually populate Computer System CIs into BMC
ASSET, and the discovery dataset child CIs could auto-identify once their
computer system parent was identified, it would be a very good compromise.

On this same topic, computer system child CIs should also have the option of
inheriting ownership/support data/relationships and asset lifecycle
data/relationships from their parent computer system CIs. A lot of work
needs to be done here to enhance the maintainability of large CI count
production datasets.

Christopher,

BMC confirmed what you stated today; prefetching applications is not
possible from V7.1 onwards.

In 7.1 they dropped support for pre-fetching the applications, because they
never could get it to work properly. I thought I had it working fairly well
in 7.0.01.003 early last year, but the same xml file refused to work in any
version of 7.1 from the beta on. It may have been dropped from support in
ANY version of 7.x, but you'll have to check; it's been over a year since I
stopped working with 7.0.x.

Re: Automated Reports

2008-09-02 Thread P Romain ARSlist
If you can alter the macros then try adding the timestamp to the 'to-file'
parameter, eg to-file: x:\remedy\filename$TIMESTAMP$.csv

If you don't like the timestamp format you could build the path and filename
in a separate field and pass it to the macro as a parameter.

Then the to-file parameter would be, eg to-file: $Filename$ where the
Filename variable is set to, for example, x:\remedy\filename 20080902.csv

Another way would be to rename the file after generating. This way you
would not have to change any of your macros. You can generate date info
using Set Fields and the MONTH, DAY, and YEAR functions and pass them into a
routine that renames the output file.

I have done this type of thing via perl scripting...create your 'template'
macro and have it contain a unique value for the report name...then have
perl generate the timestamp that you are looking for...make a copy of the
template macro, edit the copy to have a different report name, then execute
runmacro with the new macro instead of the template...then you can delete
today's macro file.

Look at the OBJSTR:AttributeDefinitions and OBJSTR:Class forms.

CMDB auditing is, like all CMDB settings, driven by metadata so you should
be able to determine any setting by looking at the data in the metadata

Thank you for mentioning that, and yes, I am currently in talks with my DBA
to set up a 1-2 hour caching mechanism on the local DB to replace the view.
After further review I just don't feel comfortable with the scaling of an
escalation for this purpose.

All things said and done, the DB needs to return the data instead of Remedy
trying to work around it timing out. I might have let it slide if the
active link after submit idea had panned out but perhaps this is for the
better.

Paul,

If you are going to go through that effor, does the information need to be
live that you are looking up? I don't recall seeing what the data was
gathered from or for. Can you instead create an escalation that could fire
once an hour, or even less often, that would load the data from your
external source into a table on your database?

Just an idea that I didn't see stated.

Unfortunately the AL's aren't firing, because it's not the user tool
doing
the insert. If you want them to fire as part of the submit, you need to
deal with the timeouts, if you need the submit to happen without the
possibility of the timeout, you need to have the sql lookup fire on some
other trigger, the other trigger would be an escalation, performance
wise it
wouldn't be that bad, if you have too many records in that table you
could
always index the fields used for lookup on your escalation to mitigate.

Subject: Active Link After Submit Instead of Filter

Hello,

I have a custom 6.3 Remedy implementation which is used by our Netcool
monitoring system to open tickets based on certain events. The netcool
remedy gateway is used to push a few fields to Remedy and open a ticket,
then the Request ID is passed back to netcool and used for future
updates to
the event. All of this works just fine.

The issue I am seeing is that after Remedy receives the fields and the
ticket is saving, I fire 2 filters to pull data out of an external
database
via a SQL call over a view in the local Oracle DB. This call can
sometimes
time out. When it does, this causes the netcool gateway to receive an
ARERR
92 and a request ID is never created.

I am trying to work around this by doing the filter actions with an
active
link that fires after submit. I have tried it with both set field alone
and
with a set field then a push field of matching IDs to the same request
ID.
Neither of these methods have worked. Although the ticket opens fine,
the
SQL results are not pushed to the fields.

Once again, the priority is that netcool receives a request ID in an
action
that is separate from the SQL call. I realize that an 1-2 minute
escalation
could accomplish this but I don't like that from a performance
standpoint.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

ARS 7.1 Join Form Changed Behaviour - ITSM Customisers Beware

2008-01-17 Thread P Romain ARSlist
Hi All,

A heads up on a change in join form processing between ARS 7.1 Patch 1 and
ARS 7.01

Create a regular form 'A' having only the core fields.

Create a join form 'B' joining 'A' to itself using the request ID field.
Expose the Short Description field from the Primary form of the join.

Create a record in form 'A'

View the record in join form 'B' and change the Short Description. All
should be OK.

Add a filter to the join form to set the Short Description field to upper
case.

Now try and change the Short Description field. It will change back to its
original values.

The filter fires twice as each side of the join is saved but the second time
it uses the original field value.

In the ITSM suite the user interacts with AST forms which are joins of
joins.

If you have any bespoke workflow that, for example, sets the name field to
upper case then the users won't be able to change the name via asset
management.

BMC has logged this as a bug.

Cheers

Peter

Re: unable to read data from Table field more than one time

2007-11-14 Thread P Romain ARSlist
Are you using an EXTERNAL qualification for the table field?

I assume you are:
1. parsing the CC field to get the first value (X)
2. putting the value in the table field external qualification
3. calling the guide which walks the table getting the values for appending
to the mailing-list
4. parsing the CC field to get the next value (first time = Y)
5. jumping back to 2 if a value is found in 4

I remember a year or so ago having trouble getting server-side table fields
to refresh in a scenario similar to the above but was told this had been
fixed.

If you are not doing the above how are you walking the table?

no this has nothing to do with a caching problem on the web.
The only thing I do is to click on a Submit button in Form A.
This button pushes the values of one field (called CC field) to another
form let say Form B.
On submit to that form B, I check entry per entry, whether it is a valid
email address or it is a mailing-list.
If valid email address I add that entry to another field (let say emails
found) on that form B.
If it is a mailing-list entry I check via a Table field in the Form B
the logins associated to the mailing-list found and I add them to the
field emails found.
Upon completion of the whole operation I send back the results to the
web page where I clicked on the Submit button.
Up to now everything works perfect.
The problem is if in the CC list I have several mailing-lists.
The filters take only the logins found for the first list.
And multiplies per mailing-lists found i.e if I have mailing-ist X and Y
and Z.
X with X-1 and X-2 logins.
Y with Y-1 and Y-2 logins
Z with Z-1 and Z-2 logins
At the end I find in the final field X-1, X-2 which s fine for first
mailing-list found (X) But instead of Y-1 and Y2 and Z-1 and Z-2, I find
X-1 and X-2 X-1 and X-2. Three times corresponding to my X, Y and Z
mailing-lists found.
... ??? ... so i am getting crazy Please HELP

Re: ARS v7 Audit Form - Using Audit on fields, but too many values are appearing in Audit record

2007-10-25 Thread P Romain ARSlist
Hi Susan,

It's workflow on your main form that I'm referring to.

If this sets any of the fields that you've selected for audit then this may
be causing the problem as it did for us.

Cheers

Peter

Hi Peter,

That's an interesting question. I was under the impression that no workflow
'copied' over during the audit form creation. So I guess I wasn't expecting
any workflow to set anything since how would it know to. I haven't created
any workflow.

Thanks,

Susan

Hi Susan,

Is there any set fields workflow acting on the fields that are being copied?

We had an issue where a field was triggering an audit record when I didn't
think it should.

It turned out that there was a filter setting the field to upper case.

Even if the field was already in upper case (ie it didn't change) the
audit was still triggered.

Cheers

Re: Strange commit changes action behavior when using parent window and dialog

Have you tried removing the event workflow completely and simply adding a
commit action after the open window action?

Subject: Strange commit changes action behavior when using parent window and
dialog

Hi Folks,

I'm seeing what seems like strange behavior when using commit changes to
save a parent record after a child dialog closesHere is the
scenario.

1. I have an Active Link that opens a dialog window when a user selects a
record on the parent form and a particular field is null
2. The user selects a value on the dialog and then clicks a button to
indicate the selection
3. I then have an Active Link that has the following actions:
- Commit Changes to write the value back to the parent form
- Send Event to parent indicating the value has been selected and sent
back
- Close Window

4. I then have an Active Link on the parent window that executes on the
event sent above and performs a commit changes action to write the record
back to the DB with the new field value.

When I log this, it looks like things are working correctly, however the
parent record is never written (nothing in SQL log either) and the save
button is lit. The value is returned to the parent window, but the DB write
isn't done. It is almost like the second commit changes is running in the
context of the dialog window (which is now closed) instead of the parent
window, but the log clearly shows it running on the parent after the event
is received.

Any Ideas...?

Folks,

I am wondering - I have 1 licensed server that has trial license apps on it.
There is a load balancer and the 2nd server is also a trial license.

I am upgrading from 5.x to 7.x - single server from the old system.

Is it better to purge the existing 7.x license and move it to the load
balanced server, and then use the upgraded arserver and apps licenses on the
1st 7.x server?

Or is there another way to do this?

Also, has anybody had their trail floating licenses never display as applied
in the server?

I have 30 that won't work - they are arserver floating and bmc incident mgmt
floating.

Thank You,

select value, value from form union select 'Clear', 'a' from dual

Re: BMC Atrium CMDB Costs?

I guess the issue BMC are facing is that Atrium has no user licences so the
only 'standard' source of revenue is the application license itself.

Oops - my bad.

$100k is per instance, and $1.2M is per site licensing.

Hi Carey

I can't answer your question about the difference in name, but the cost of
"BMC Atrium CMDB Enterprise Manager" is I think $100k per site, or $1.2M for
an enterprise license. Plus costs per endpoint, like $150 per server
managed, $10 per desktop, etc.

David,

And not to split hairs... but Is there any difference between:

"BMC Atrium CMDB Enterprise Manager"
  and
"Atrium CMDB" (that comes with any portion of ITSM) ?

This question was discussed at last years RUG and no real answer was
supplied. (Or I at least did not get the answer.)

I mean if the cost of the "Enterprise Manger" is 1.2M and the cost of
Service Desk is more like 120K (Which should be a reasonable set a
user license for the SD application too.) then why would anyone buy
"Enterprise Manger"? Why not just buy Service Desk and not use the
Service Desk application?

Re: Sandbox for ITSM 7?

Is this generally available or just to partners?

Ron,

Upgrade the application you are using from ITSM 6 to ITSM 7 ?

This is a major change. ITSM 7 is a complete rewrite of the ITSM
application based on the ITSP (ex-Viadyne) application, not ITSM 6 (the code
base for ITSM 6 has been abandoned by BMC). It is not a simple upgrade and
there is virtually no overlap in forms/workflow between ITSM 6 and 7.
Changing to ITSM 7 is like installing a completely new application - you
will need to re-train your staff, change/adapt existing processes, perform a
complicated migration of existing data to the new application, discover
which of your current customizations need to be re-done on the new
application, etc. etc.

**

I'm working on our upgrade to ITSM 7 (well, actually just Service Desk 7)
and I'd like some advice. For past upgrades, I've done a completely OTB
install on an unlicensed 'sandbox' server just to see what's there, and
compare my customizations to the OTB and so forth. As you know, we can't do
an unlicensed install with ITSM 7, so I'm wondering how some of you who have
already dealt with this managed.

I've got a licensed development system, so I can install there, but it's
likely I'll need to do some troubleshooting of production problems before we
get the upgrade in production, so I need a dev system that's exactly like
production. I'm thinking I could do a backup of the existing dev system
database, then do a fresh install or ARS 7 and a fresh OTB install of ITSM
7, then if I need the HD6.0 system, restore from the 6.0 backup. This sounds
like it should work, but I don't know about binaries that may get installed
for ITSM 7 which might make going back and forth between 6 and 7
challenging.

Your thoughts?

You'll have to use patch 4 if you want to install the new SRM module.

You'll also patch 2 of ARServer as it has the SRM application license in its
license type menu.

I don't plan to trailblaze with this other than in a VMWare environment
though!

actually appears to have solved my problems with searching/displaying
