This would also happen if for some reason your AR Server license became
invalid. I would check that next if a restart doesn't fix it.

Hi all,

Most of my helpdesk are having problems saving/updating their tickets this
morning. I found out that the people who cannot save tickets are the ones who
have floating licenses. I then looked at my Remedy licenses and all the AR
User floating licenses have turned into Read(floating) licenses. Why all of a
sudden? Nothing changed/updated on the Remedy system.

I have also called Remedy and their recommendation is to restart the server.
I thought I ask, since (hopefully) someone out there might have a
suggestion/solution that doesn't require a restart of the server.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is working as designed. When a person with a floating ?license logs in
they are provided a Read(floating) license, when they save the system queries
the floating licenses to determine if a write license is available. The problem
you are encountering could be associated to Floating write licenses not being
released. Do a license count if this occurs again to see how many floating
licenses are being used.

Re: AR User Floating licenses converting to Read (UNCLASSIFIED)

2009-07-07 Thread Opela, Gary L CTR USAF AFMC 72 CS/SCBAH
Make sure the Host ID is correct on all of your licenses you have
installed.

Check this by going to add a new license. Select the Product Feature of
AR Server and note the Host ID that remedy pulls.

Next, check your license keys that you've already installed to ensure
they are referencing the same Host ID. If they are not, then the license
keys will be invalid. It is case sensitive (I've found out the hard
way), so ensure all the letters are the same case (should be upper
case).

If the Host ID is different, on your existing licenses which have
previously been installed, then what remedy chooses when you go to add a
new license, then something changed, either you had to have a NIC
replaced (in the event your server does not have integrated network
ports), or for some reason remedy is seeing a different MAC (as most
servers have more than one), or maybe they virtualized your server
overnight without letting you know.

Re: AR User Floating licenses converting to Read (UNCLASSIFIED)

2009-07-07 Thread Jason Miller
If the server is validly licensed, what about External Authentication? Do
you have Authenticate Unregistered User checked? Or even Allow Guest
Users

I think it is a long shot that all of your users would have started using
the different case usernames then they usually use. This sounds like a
symptom of people authenticating not using the exact case as their login
name in the User record.

In the case of Authenticate Unregistered Users they would still authenticate
to the LDAP server but would not match up their User record. They would be
logged in but their licenses and groups would not be picked up from the User
form.

For Allow Guest Users they would be allow to login as a guest using any
username they typed in.

You usually wouldn't see a user behavior change on mass scale like this.

Did something in change between the external authentication server and
Remedy? Maybe their LDAP usernames where changed (jsmith changed to
john.smith) and they are now registering as Guests? Maybe somebody changed
the case of the Login Names of all of these users in the User form?

Just some thoughts, HTH.

 my AR
Server license is valid and supported. Looks like a restart is
 necessary.
Otherwise, do you have any other thoughts?

 TIA
 Thien
