Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues
Hey, We have done this to 4 different desktops/laptops -- all are the same (2 issues). Tried to bring up the java console so we can see what is going on.. did not really do anything. Found a firewall prompt that java was not allowed and unblocked it.. but it is doing this everytime. Also we do not have command prompt tools even as admin, it is in a different location.. so there are a few possible issues here. The same patches install on a non-hardend desktop/laptop -- like mine at home just fine.. We have tried Patch 3 and patch 4.. 1 person tried patch 0 but no difference. strange.. It must be something simple.. On Sun, Mar 7, 2010 at 8:04 PM, Boyd, Rebecca E. wrote: > ** > > This is what I did for installation issues: > > > > 1. Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues
This is what I did for installation issues: 1. Go to c:\temp & delete any temp files left by the Remedy installer. Try the install again. 2. If it still doesn't work, repeat step 1. Copy the install folder to a different location & try again. Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues
Supported configurations are defined in the compatibility matrix. http://www.bmc.com/support/reg/remedy-compatibility-tables.html For AR System 7.5.00, the Remedy user client is supported on 32-bit XP, Vista and Windows 7 desktop operating systems. It is not supported on 64-bit versions of these desktop operating system. For users of 64-bit systems, the web client should be used. The Developer Studio is supported on the above operating systems as well as 32-bit or 64-bit editions of Windows Server (2003 or higher). Developer Studio is only supported within a 32-bit JVM, even on a 64-bit operating system, at this time. This may change in a future release. -David J. Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues
I think its more of a JVM issue. Do you have an old version running? I remember I had a calculation issue of that sort once, but not quite sure what I did to resolve it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I pointed JAVA_HOME to a later version (1.5 or 1.6 as Lyle pointed out). Even after that, the installer has a weird way of calculating remaining disk space.. I've had issues on LINUX, where the installer would assume there is no disk space remaining based on its calculations, and hence I had to open a separate terminal and delete old temp files that were large so it could recalculate, and continue with the installation.. Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues
The installer is just a basic Java app, so I wouldn't expect hardening to be an issue (I suppose it may depend on what was done to harden it, though). Is it a 32 or 64-bit machine? If it's 64-bit, that could be a problem. Otherwise, what version of the Java JVM are you using? You should ensure that it is at least a later version of 1.5 or 1.6. Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues
Patrick - we ran into that exact same issue on 7.5 and it turned out that we were installing on Windows 7 Server, 64-bit and it needed Patch 3 to install, but BMC also told us that for 7.5 the clients wouldn't install on 64-bit machines, only 32-bit, so you may want to set up a virtual XP environment or see if they have a patch for the install. Not sure if this is the same problem, but it sounds just like what we encountered. Hope this helps.
