Sounds like a ram problem for me.If the hdd is damaged, you will receibe messages from Windows, and any program could stop working suddenly, but if it is a ram isswe, probably your computer will slow down when it has a lot to load in memory. In another post, youve said that your computer can run Street fighter x tekken, if im not wrong. that means that you have a good computer, good or great, and shadow line is not too difficult to run.

Re: I'm blind and want to develop a very complex game

That...actually sounds like a good thing. I can handle the quirks like indentation—once I get into the habit I wont even think about it. Ill probably keep messing around with BGT on the side, though. The adventure game I have in mind for my eventual project will have loads of maps to move around in, with 3D movement (some of the characters can fly and/or dive into deep water, so this is kind of necessary), but although turn-based battles give me a chance to work out how to attack before I do so, the fact that unless theres a way to defend myself during the enemys turn they might kill me if Im outnumbered is rather unpleasant. Ill work that out later. If Python can do everything BGT does plus some, Ill be happy.

The Panzer game used the actual stats of the World War 2 tanks. It allowed you to use the tanks from Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. It took place in the sands of Africa so there were no large hills or valleys to get in the way and much easier to program. It was turn based, so you could take as long as you wanted to decide what to do.

Re: Alt text on a div?

It looks like it might be possible with Aria, but youre going to need to read the spec yourself and do testing--how Aria is presented isnt really specified and the implementation status of Aria varies wildly across browsers and screen readers. It is easier and much more sensible to just provide visible text below it in DOM order, for example. Otherwise, youll need to do some testing and experimentation-which will be more time-consuming than just providing some text below it.Nothing has hurt accessibility quite as much as using divs for everything. This is probably why we have Aria.

If you really want to do this, youll have to figure out something with Aria, which will make you accessible to half of us and provide a wildly varying experience. Aria provides no specific thing for this, or so says my very quick skim of the spec.It is easier and much more sensible to just provide visible text below it in DOM order, for example. And now with Samurai Warriors 4 being my latest purchase, thats going to keep me occupied for a long time... and Im pretty sure therell be a new game out by the time Ive grown tired of this one. hahaha. Check out this guide for all things menu and translation related. Let me know what you think. Would love to keep an ongoing dialog about this game...http://s13.zetaboards.com/koeiwarriors/topic/7169170/1/SLJ, I didnt mean the games menus are translated into English... but that there are translations written all over the internet. Youre right that games imported would be quite complicated and hard to get help with since 99% of all the menus are in Japanese. Thats why on the internet, those who have knowledge of the language or at least en
ouggh to read menus write out translations and post them up all over the place. Look at the guide I posted for a great example. And if you want a more relatable example, think of all the translating and directions for menus people have given of all the various Japanese audio games.

Re: just got a Iphone6 plus, cases and questions

[[wow]], Dark, are you really saying that you turned down faster broadband speeds? Well, what a mug! Oh well, at least you persuaded the bastards to give you an upgrade for nothing, so thats awesome. But one of these days your obstinacy must surely kill you! CX2 already described some modern conveniences; here are a few more that I now take for granted: virtualisation lets you run stuff in any operating system, and you need memory for that job--memory you cant use, even if you had it, under XP. I actually dont use search for the Start menu very much, but the indexer works the whole system, so finding stuff is much faster. The networking, audio, and power management are all much improved--many more options, complete firewall solution, IPv6 support, independent v
olume controls, lower latency, etc. These are all things you just grow to love as you use them because theyre just there, and better, especially on a laptop. USB 3 for your fast file transfer needs; XP almost never has support for it, even when the manufacturer supports that OS, for the simple reason that the drivers would have to be rewritten completely. Actually Windows 8 puts the stack into Windows itself, but thats irrelevant; the same holds true for 7 when the manufacturer supports it, which they always do because its actually popular. Integrated AV solution; that is until I turn it off. A modern browser with video support. Etc. The system is just very robust.Yes, I know you dont _need_ any of that stuff, but Im fairly sure you wouldnt turn much of it down if you had the choice to use modern hardware with an OS which supports them, and your existing interface. Its just a case of you choosing to settle for less, which is absolutel
y fine, because theres never going to be an objective definition of what is better, and if you dont think you need them in light of the sacrifices youll make, thats that. I personally love them, and while I wish there were a Windows 8.1 for XP users edition of the operating system, there just isnt. Of course many of the same points apply equally to non-Windows operating systems too, with the added advantage that the OS is already usable, even if you have to learn something new, and that it generally stays that way in the case of OS X.Then again, expectations have been known to change. The machine I first tried XP on, a Pentium II 400 MHz Compaq that I bought in 1998, ran it like a dog. What did I do? Why, I replaced it with Windows 2000, its predecessor, of course. This, I said, was XP as it should have been, and I would never go back to XP. Indeed, a useful milestone of how good a version of Windows is seems to be how bad the success
or is. And youll never guess what happened. In a few more years of XPs long development cycle, it had become more-or-less feature complete and rock solid, with great speed, security and compatibility. A few years before Windows 2000 became quietly dropped, the OS seemed more and more dated and feeble, so I switched voluntarily to XP. Oh, terrible, terrible misunderstanding! XP ran just fine, even if you had to fight it a little bit to turn off the crap; all the slowness had either been outpaced by newer hardware, fixed by screen readers, or worked around, and I still got to keep the Start menu. All Id have to do was put in a bit more work to make it right, and itd be fine. And that PC? Ran as a Linux server until 2012--yes, 2012--when it was finally and tenderly retired to make way for my 27-inch iMac. Whereupon the server in question became a VM, and I practically kicked myself for having waited so long. The point with cost is that you have to pay for
something in exchange for your security, stability, compatibility, etc. MS arent stupid, they can see their market share plummeting. Indeed, backward compatibility is something that has kept them very rich for many years, but even that cant argue with, yknow, people actually leaving their platform! So Microsoft plays an exhausting game of catch-up, and arguably is still decidedly the loser. They are slowly being taught not to fuck with their customers, having laid off two of their top brass, and made several backward steps on the Windows interface, but ultimately its not about the money game any more. You are sadly being dragged, as we all are, into a battle we have no interest in, but in which MS clearly sees itself in clear danger of losing for good. Happily, they seem to know when to stop; Windows 10 will bring back the Start menu, allbeit with TIFKAM elements which can be turned off with a little work.

Roboid Inc.: New accessible browser game with large story feature

2015-01-19 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — New releases room : Orin via Audiogames-reflector

Roboid Inc.: New accessible browser game with large story feature

Hello everyone,While browsing one of my favorite browser sites, I recently came upon this gem of a game, Roboid. While this game has features youd expect in a browser game, PVP with robots, it also has an overarching story which youll have to progress through in order to unlock activities. Im not sure how long it is right now, but I like the attention to detail already with it. In addition to the main story, accessed via the story log, there is a media section which details background information thats connected to the story but is optional reading. This could be news on the Roboid ternis AKA the PVP part of the game but its regulated so I dont think youll be attacked every 15 minutes, blogs related to the current chapter--I read one about someone becoming emploied at Roboid. Inc, and theres also a documents section, which I have yet to look at since its late.Overall, Im liking this
already and I hope that as promised they continue to add to the story. The only gripe I have so far as that the signup has a Captcha but no audio captcha, unfortunately. I used Rumola but Im sure Webvisum will work.I think those of you who like browser games should give it a chance. More importantly, unlike other games that dont provide reasons for PVP, this games story provides a perfect one--Roboid, Inc. Is a corperation where its members can buy robots to fight in sport. Since this is a tourni system, it seems that its fair to new players. The game wont match you with someone that doesnt have an amature Roboid, which you get at the beginning. So the better class of Roboid you have, the better, more experienced players youll be matched up against. Ill test this out in theory when I play it. I hope for the sake of me being a new player that this is true.Read up and create an account at:http://www.roboid.com

@Camlorn, that is true, MushZ isnt a necessity, though I will say it does turn alter into virtually a full scale audiogame. Ive got nothing against pure text games, heck yesterday Ive been renewing my acquaintance with Kerkerkruip, but background music and sounds for what is going on is nice. @Cx2, interesting thoughts. I have seen the children of dune miniseries, but I dont recall the soundtrack let alone have a copy, actually I wouldnt mind seeing it again sinse at the time I saw it it was with a couple of friends who are huge Dune fanatics and engaged in their own coffee with melange, which made it lots of fun but less easy to remember . Getting back to games however, My usual problem with trying to play music with fantasy rpgs is that if your playing a game with changing environments, you cant really find something th
at suits, even if you can find music that you dont automaticaly associate with some other world, (its pretty hard to hear starwars and not think of starwars for example). Thus, usually when Ive tried music, its been for something set in one environment such as a dungeon crawl, for example I made a playlist of all the dungeon themes from soul calibur 2 on one occasion and used it for the Torchlight gamebook from arborell, which worked wel.

This information is useful regardless of what version of Windows youre currently using. The ability to reinstall a system without sighted assistance is something that is sorely lacking, unless you pay for expensive talking windows installer utilities which even then arent guaranteed to support your sound hardware.

Re: Modern PCS breakout rewrite

hello.Ive downloaded the version 2 of Breakout from PCSGames website in post 36, however I found some bug in it.1. when you run the game, it asks you to select clasic or modern sound mode, however NVDA doesnt read the message, although you can use up and down keys to select modern or clasic mode, you cannt hear the message.2. when you chose each sound mode, the intro will play. however, if you press enter to skip it, the sound skips but at the same time the first game mode is slected automatically to play. so in order to skip the game intro, i press the arrow keys and then the game main menu appears.3. when i use jaws, the arrow keys doesnt work to move in the menu items, it seems that game doesnt install the key hook for jaws stuff.

ISO file burning--good for users of other OSs like Linux, though probably not to you personally, its very cool. Etc. The system is just very robust.Yes, I know you dont _need_ any of that stuff, but Im fairly sure you wouldnt turn much of it down if you had the choice to use modern hardware with an OS which su
pports them, and your existing interface. Its just a case of you choosing to settle for less, which is absolutely fine, because theres never going to be an objective definition of what is better, and if you dont think you need them in light of the sacrifices youll make, thats that. This, I said, was XP as it should have been, and I wou
ld never go back to XP. Indeed, a useful milestone of how good a version of Windows is seems to be how bad the successor is. Whereupon the server in question became a
VM, and I practically kicked myself for having waited so long. The point with cost is that you have to pay for something in exchange for your security, stability, compatibility, etc. Happily, they seem to know when to stop; Windows 10 will bring back the Start menu, albeit w
ith TIFKAM elements which can be turned off with a little work.

Re: I'm blind and want to develop a very complex game

C# is not functional. C# is basically Java plus a bunch of stuff that makes it actually kind of pleasant and minus the ability to run on anything thats not Windows. C# is actually not a horrible choice either, given that XNA was popular for a while. The net result is that C# has a lot of tutorials aimed at new sighted game programmers, too._javascript_ can run servers and is actually likely to be more popular in that space (see node.js, which is a big deal right now). The problem with _javascript_ is sound. Since your client basically only runs in the browser and since Webaudio is a moving specification (and thats putting it very, very kindly as far as I can tell), you will probably be very frustrated by it. It doesnt matter to you now, but the one notable thing about javasccript is that it can make a really, really nice embedded scripting language for all the stuff you dont want to hard-code into the engine itself. For
any game with even marginally complex levels, the ability to trigger scripts and edit them in your level editor becomes essential.Im not saying you have to leave BGT, just that if you stick with programming you will. I can do things like simulate each individual bullet with a physics library, whereas BGT people have to write the entire physics system themselves. Same with scripting. For something turn-based and tile-based its fine, but theres enough code saving for anything more complicated that the 100 lines or so up front to get the window open and have a main loop in Python or whatever is very, very worth it. So it really depends on what kind of game youre going for.

Re: Modern PCS breakout rewrite

If theres anything I plan on rewriting next, its probably shooting range. My 3 most favourite games were, in no particular order, that, breakout and Panzers in north africa which is the one I logged the most time in I think. However, as much as Id like to write a faithfull windows conversion I dont think I could do it accurately as Im not sure how the various calculations worked in that game which is why Im still planning on working on that dos emulation project. On the programming front, Ill probably release a 3rd version of breakout that lets you use I and K in addition to the arrows in menus and maybe look into some stats. After that I want to take some time to learn bass so I can go cross platform, then possibly change breakout so it uses that and come out with a Mac version, then I can think about coding new ideas. Initially, I was planning to release it both on Windows and Mac, but even though the pure basic manual says changing the
sound frequency and panning is supported on both Windows and Mac in practice it doesnt actually work on the mac which is why Angelgift also hasnt been released on it.

Hey guys I have hird the voice over screen reader and really like the sounds. Is there a way I can make a profile or someone on the Mac is able to get the sounds for the voice over screen reader in wave files so I can create a sound profile out of them that would be cool.

Use your fire mage to attack multiple opponents at once, then use your warriors to finish them off. YOu do have a single turn at the beginning of the game where the enemies dont attack your guys; use this to power up your warriors, then go all out damage after that.

Goodness, are sighted games as hard as AAC? The main thing I have problems with is jumping the pits. I mean, in other games, you just jump, tap right a few times, and thats it. But here, the pits are so close together and all, that I dont know when to stop. I cant even get passed the first set of pits in the mario level of the first chapter. Is there just, something wrong with me?

Re: A home for Swamp campaigns

My problem with dropbox Grryf is as you said people need invites. Suppose joe blogs who has never heard of this forum comes along and wants to play swamp campaigns, where does he get them? Heck, I! sinse I havent been keeping up with the Swamp topics am not sure who has created what in terms fof campaigns which is why I would like a better organized archive of where to get them similar to the ones for Sound Rts and tactical battle maps.Thats why even if dropbox hosted the files Id prefer a propper page with download links and no invites or accounts required, or similar that Aprone could put a link to on the swamp section of his audiogames page and that I could put a link to in the Db.After all what is the point of making a campaign if only your four or five forum buddies who you send it to play it? @Slj, if you could see about hosting and some sort of centralized archive that would be awsome.

The networking, audio, and power management are all much improved--many more options, complete firewall solution, IPv6 support, independent volume controls, lower latency, etc. These are all things you just grow to love as you use them because theyre just there, and better, especially on a laptop. ISO file burning--good for users of other OSs like Linux, though probably not to you personally, its very cool. Its just a case of you choosing to settle for less, which is absolutely fine, because theres never going to be an objective definition of what is better, and if you dont think you need them in light of the sacrifices youll make, thats that. Indeed, a useful milestone of how good a version of Windows is seems to be how bad the successor is. The point with cost is that you have to pay for something in exchange for your security, stability, compatibility, etc. Happily, they seem to know when to stop; Windows 10 will bring back the Start menu, albeit with TIFKAM elements which can be turned off with a little work.Edit: thinking some more, it occurs to me that not only do I still think Windows 2000 was MSs best work in many important ways, but also that I had rather hoped that the XP drop would not happen on account of the shake-up that would need to be involved. I was wrong on that

kerkerkruip v9 tactics?

Back in version 8 and before, I used to be not bad at kerkerkruip, and could reliably do for mallygris on novice (even without using Ment), and even had killed him on apprentice. I havent played the game for quite some time though, and version 9 changes a lot, both in terms of the basic properties of the monsters and new systems like religion, and I find Im not getting on half as well, Ive not finished a novice game successfully yet, the best Ive done is kill either Bodmall or the priests of aite a couple of times, (though far less than they killed me).So, any tips? I dont really get how religious favour and sacrifices work, snse if you kill the rogues in optimum order, ie, 2 1 4 3 2 1 5, you always need the same powers to do in the previous ones. Ive tried using grenades but had far less success than I would like, indeed getting through even basic fights against level 2 monsters seems a dicy business, let alone the level 4
ones. The powers seem far less effective (I havent got how the growth power work), and the weapons seem less useful. I also am having trouble getting the roll and block skills to be of any use, indeed mostly when I block I seem to get hit.So, I wonder what I am missing? How are you supposed to use religion? The game has gotten quite convoluted, and I confess Im not finding things easy, and while I know kerkerkruip is intended to be a tough game a few pointers on the new systems might be helpful .

Re: Swamp, zombie FPS by Aprone

Aprone i have a question i think you can answer. then i have a few observations. you might want to grab a popcorn and a soda, this might be a long post.okay, to start with the question. when putting points in to say hunting mastery, for example, each point adds 10% more damage to the guns. the Winchester well will say does 100 damage. this is only for examples sake and im only using it for easy math. does this take 10% of the original damage and add it on to that base of 100 every point? resulting in growth starting at 100 and going to 110, 120, 130. etc. with every subsequent point. added into the skill? or does it start at 100 and takes 10%, of 100, 10, making 110. then when you put another point in it would take 10% of 110, 11, and add that to the base. resulting in 121. and if you put a third point in, it would take 10% of 121, 12.1, and add that on to the base. resulting in 133.1. the first option is a linear model and the second is
more of an exponential model. basically compound interest that you earn in a bank account, if i lost anyone in the math above.i guess my ultimate question for this part is which model best describes the damage growth of the weapons when you put points into their categories?now on to a couple observations about normal vs hc. i noticed that when in hc, most of the special items on map, the crate sounding loot, are dog tags. id say for me it seems like its about 95% are dog tags. the other 5% beeing broken weapons and the like, but i have no numbers to back my findings up. however, when in normal mode its the exact opposite. id say it not quite perfectly flip-flopped, but broken weapons are about 75 or so percent, if not more, of what you will find. aprone, why is this so. normal mode has no use for dog tags, so honestly, we probably shouldnt even find them. furthermore, either we should be able to use more tags, see my post above about
raiders not respauning, or the percentage of tags vs special items should be lowered significantly. id personally say we could use both of those, but youre the final boss Aprone.i hope you all are still with me. i got one more thing. an interesting point was brought up the other day while chatting on swamp. it was noted that other players footsteps sound about 2-3 times faster than your own. not that they are moving that much faster, it just sounds like it with how the footsteps sound. is there a reason for this? is it a bug? i think it might be to help us distinguish between players and zombies, but i dont know. any thoughts Aprone?

TIFKAM: The Interface Formerly Known As Metro. I have native IPv6 at home from my ISP. Therefore I need an OS to put it to use, and although you can add IPv6 onto XP it is not complete and wont work without also having IPv4 around for DNS. In Win7 the IPv6 support is built in and enabled by default, and supports full DNS resolution. W00t!Yes, indeed. The only constant is change.

Re: linux distro that is light on resources but accessible?

To be honest, this project started out as really only for my use when I had to set up systems in bulk for part of my job last summer. I might add selective partitioning in the near future, as I said, this was my first project written in shell script. You are also correct in saying that it does not let the user customize their install, however keep in mind that it can also be used as a regular arch install medium, it doesnt automatically boot into the installer, so if you wanted to install your own packages, customize your system the way you want, etc, I wont stop you. The only reason I kept going with this project is because as I learned more in shell scripting, I added segments to the server side post installation scripts to do things like pre configure accessibility apps like orca, freespeech, eviacam and chromevox for someone who just wants an accessible system.

Re: just got a Iphone6 plus, cases and questions

TIFKAM?Oh and I feel I should translate a few of those computer wootery terms as Dark likes to call them.Youve probably heard vaguely of IP addresses, everything connected directly to the internet has to have one and that includes web sites. For a long time its looked like were going to run out, IPV6 is just a way of expanding the number of these available. Weve had a bit of a reprieve on this thanks to routers but one day, maybe a long while off now but eventually, just like the analogue to digital TV switchover the old system will end up being either disabled or unable to access the whole internet for lack of space and IPV6 will become essential. Its a bit like running out of phone numbers so you add extra digits, theoretically yes they could adapt older systems to understand the new system but weve been down that road w
hether or not we agree it just isnt going to happen.Improved memory support means you can actually have more than 4GB of memory, some of the earlier examples of Windows trying to make this work actually slowed the computer down when you had more than 4GB but my Win 7 machine runs flawlessly with 16GB. You might never need that much memory and thats fine but it can help with things such as converting sound or video files from one format to another, editing audio, keeping PDF readers or web sites with flash from bogging down the system like they tend to do, or just having a lot of different windows or tabs open at once so you can refer back to them while you work on a document.Win 7 has very nice support for multiple sound devices. This might seem strange, but you could do what I do and use your standalone sound card for your headphones and use the integrated sound that came with your motherboard or graphics card for speakers. Sometimes I just want to sit bac
k and not have to worry about headphones, but the headphones are without a doubt what I use for serious listening because they both give me better sound in full 5.1 and block out some background noise. Since Im using a desktop this means I dont need to mess around behind my desk with cables to achieve this, and given my 5.1 headphones have 3 connectors it takes a bit of playing around to get them in the right places every time I hook them up, but I also dont need to change my settings between 5.1 and stereo because I can leave my soundblaster card on 5.1 and the other output on stereo, thankfully the setting for this is independent for each output device.USB 3 allows external hard drives or flash drives to copy files faster, you might not care about this but it can cut down the time it takes to make backups. It also has potential for scanners or syncing mobile devices such as iPhones or transferring to your victor streams SD card.I hope you have
nt taken this as some kind of personal attack or disrespect from myself, what you do is ultimately your business and no one elses. Just remember that everything has its time, and when it comes to electronics but most especially when it comes to computers and computer like devices that time can be surprisingly short. We all agree that Microsofts strategy regarding its interfaces is idiotic bullcrap but none of us can expect to have any meaningful impact, and sooner or later the tidal wave sweeps us all along with it. Or to put it more succinctly, the only constant is change.

have against this tools use is it installs a hole bunch of useless software that a new arch user wont need and that they probably wont use anyways. Installing 5 desktop environments is also a plane waist of space. Id recommend asking them what desktop environment they want and what software they want if this will actually work.

That is true Dentin, though paying for limited bandwidth can be quite a variable feast. My parents for quite a long time were limited to 10 gb a month. Not much if you wanted to stream hours of tv or play a big time graphical mmorpg, but plenty for downloading audiogames and playing things like Alteraeon.

@Slj, certainly I think there should be levelling and reputation spending in an offline version, but only to a limited extent, sinse if you could buy all the same weapons and amo and levell as far as you like, well you wouldnt be getting as much for your money in the online game would you? Id suggest myself levelling to a limited point, say as far as level 10, though still with the ability to assign points to the vvarious skills. Likewise, definitely include reputation and buying weapons and amo, but perhaps not all! the ones available in the main online game. Id personally suggest just having the axe, Glock 19, Winchester, R15, M40 and possibly the m60, and for armor, just the boots, work genes, football pads, winter coat, tattered vest, bike helmet and ball cap. this way people get a reasonable taste of all the things you can do in Swamp as a solo player, gathering loot, gaining reputation, finding new weapons and armor and going on quests, but it

Re: is world of tanks playable?

Driving round doing nothing but shooting at other tanks? Having to deal with random groups where people may or may not have a clue about how to play, what tactics work for a particular objective or map, or simply not care and either drive round just shooting everything and ignoring the objectives or simply sit in the corner and do nothing to try and gain resources off the back of everyone elses efforts? Ill take a pass thanks. These kinds of purely PVP games would be the most difficult to handle in any case since reaction speed and ability to take in and process as much information as possible as quickly as possible are the keys, and even a slight hesitation will result in either an opponent taking advantage of an opening against you before you can prevent it or you missing an opening against an opponent. Im not saying we should be excluded from PVP games, Im just pointing out that action focussed PVP games in a full 3D environment are by far and away
the most difficult for us to even approach the same level of effectiveness as a sighted player and this being the internet people will take advantage of that ruthlessly.

Greetings! Im the developer of the game, Roboid. User, Orin, messaged me in-game and mentioned this forum and brought to my attention that Roboid is a good fit for screen readers - being a text-based game.I would love to improve upon this. So to start, Ive added a note to the registration page that players using screen-readers can work around the visual captcha by sending us their registration info via the contact form. Ill enter the registration manually (youll get an activation email and can change your password later). Ill investigate true audio-captchas when I get a chance.I also opened a forum topic in the game under Suggestions to keep track of any other issues that pop-up for screen-readers... and Ill be keeping this in mind going forward as I develop new features.Oh and the PVP aspect is always by choice, you wont log in hours later to find that your player character got attacked while you were gone. Thanks for the suggestions Orin, and I look forward to improving Roboids accessibility! And thanks everyone for giving us a shot. Please let me know either by the games forum or by in-game message if you find other show-stopping screen-reader issues. I am player Elsereth in the game. Cheers!
