Strange behavior after installing Com 0 com.

Hi,I wasnt exactly sure where to put this, because its kind of game related, but probably isnt really. So I thought Id err on the side of caution and put it here.So today, I installed Com 0 Com to get Talking Dosbox working. Everything was going well. I finally got it to work, when Jaws and Flipper wouldnt work at all.Then, a few hours later, I tried to launch Road to Rage. Instead of opening, it just sat there. When I opened my task manager, I saw a TRTR.exe process, but I also saw something Ive never seen before. It was something like Acatel_SRV.exe. It took up a ton of processor power and RAM.My friend assures me that when he launches RTR, no such process appears in his task manager.My computer responded very sluggishly while these two processes were open. For as long as Ive had this PC, about 3 years, Ive never heard the fan run as hard as it was doing at that point. So I knew something was very wro
 ng. As soon as the Acapella process was killed, the fan speed dropped back to normal, which, in my computers case, is barely audible.I dont know whats causing this, but I can say that I didnt install or uninstall any other programs besides Com 0 Com before this problem occurred. I played Road to Rage this morning, and it worked fine. This was before I installed that.What could be the problem? Anything thats implanting unknown processes in my task manager that cause my computer to go crazy is not OK in my book. Yet, I dont want to uninstall Com 0 Com if I dont have to, because the DOS games are cool, and Ive wanted to play them in a dedicated environment for years.Besides, I highly doubt uninstalling Com 0 Com is a simple process. It installed device drivers, and has its own subsection in device manager now. So I have a feeling its entangled with core components of Windows at this point.I have a Windows 7 
 professional, 32 bit system at the moment.

I heard of talking microwaves, and in my opinion it is awesome.Just to explain my coleagues position: hes a student with relatively limited budget and by today I think he must have an idea of what he should do. Its not a big project, as he has to come up with something he can design (and produce) himself.Thanks for awesome feedback, and do write any new ideas if you come up with something.  As for Slovenia where I come from, public places are just beginning to get more accessible. @Dark: Regarding information, its the same in my country. We dont have any braille on trains yet, and only now the staff of Faculty of Arts in ljubljana decided to mark the loos in braille for trial. They showed me the result, and asked me if that was okay. I replied it was, and added that they should equip every classroom with apropriate nu

@Turtlepower, Id be interested to see said lists myself, just for a chuckle at the badness of some suggestions . The shocking thing is the last time my friend was told Oh isnt this all a bit adolescent was by a nurse at hospital after a suicide attempt,  yes, so much for the medical profession. One thing she does however do that always impresses me is tell people in quite a rational and no nonsense fashion that she has clinical depression, that it is something she just has to wait out, and no, its not just feeling down. One of her favourite sayings which makes me laugh is mad! not stupid . I will also say that while I dont have depression in the same sense my friend does, I have experienced related and quite
  similar symptoms on occasion as well for rather different reasons, so I do have some degree of understanding that goes beyond merely the imaginatively empathic.

It was odd, before I had it I wouldnt have said one was particularly necessary sinse those standard knob control ones (the ones that have one dial for setting temperature and one undernieth for time), are very accessible (you might not even need labels if you have a good timer), but Ive rather liked having it, though admitedly this is mostly because the generator in it is a bit uba so does stuff very quickly! . If it busts I might actually think about rebuying one, indeed I thought it had broken earlier this year but i
 t turned out it just needed a clean and a reset. Of course there are those annoying microwaves with those utterly impossible touchpads as you said, but those arent quite universal yet, same goes for ovens, mine has braille labels that we stuck on anyway, though many other appliances like the good old george are just push buttons. I cant speak for dishwashers though sinse Ive never really seen the point of them unless youve got about five people in your housewho eat regularly, sinse Im just on my own and only have my own pots to wash I just do them myself. As to running things through smart phone, well I never really see why you would need! a smart fridge, sinse hay, its a fridge, you put stuff in, it makes stuff cold! what else do you want? I suppose smart phone control of something like an oven or microwave would work, but that seems a tad overkill in the software department when the things are easy enough to make acce
 ssible, or in the case of microwaves exist in an accessible form anyway. About the best appliance you could control via smartphone would be a washing machine sinse there are so many programs and the knobs are fiddly. In kitchin design, the best I could think of access wise would be say some none stick counter tops to make pouring easier and not make spilling stuff so dire, plus an oven with those contact hobs that only keep hot when you put stuff on them, not to touch,  although again, kevla oven gloves are wonderful things! .

I think the grow and shrink spells improved damage because the game compared the size of the attacker and defender and scaled the damage by how much of a discrepancy there was. Growing your character also made it easier to knock down smaller enemies.Still working on the next test version. Ive written in many of the systems the game will rely on: items, weapons, armor, character skills, and so on.

Hi Brad.Yeah, those headphones are awesome! I have reasonly bought the on-ear headphones from Bose, which both supports Bluetooth and cable as well. Im not sure if yours is the generation before mine, but that doesnt matter. My headset remembers up to 8 Bluetooth devices, which you can cicle through by using the power button on the right ear phone.I really like the sound in those headphones. I think the bass is okay, and the sound in generel is awesome in my opinion.The reason for I chose the on-ear headphones is because I wanna be able to hear whats going on around me on a train, in a buss or simular Places. That was very important for me today while I was on my way to my job in the buss. we had to wait for a while because of a big trafic accident. I could easily hear people mention the accident and that was why we were stopped. If I had used
  an over-ear headset, I would need to take them off and ask what was going on. Thats of course a personal choice, but thats the reason for I like to be able to hear whats going on around me.Its right that it takes a while for the sound to get through to the headset when using it with the iPhone. This can be pretty annoying but I can live with it.Ill recommend this headset to everyone, because it both supports a cable and Bluetooth, and yep it have speech in different languages, and you can install updates as well when they come available.The headset is charged by using a micro USB. If the batteries dies, it will still Work with the cable.It comes with a very nice case which protects the headset very well.

Hi everyone! I have some experiences, what languages people would like to prefer to learn. Ofcourse, English is a first language. Some people prefer also to learn German, French, Spanish, Italian, or Russian.But, what else about some exotic languages? Yes, ofcourse, there are those people. Mainly Chinese, Japanese or Korean. Some people also learned an Arabic language.By my way, Chinese is very difficult language. Also, some keys are used for Chinese computers too. For example ctrl + space or shift + space. Japanese language is easy to pronunciation, but It consists of three alphabets: Two kana alphabets (hiragana and katakana) and also kanji (chinese logographs).I try to write some japanese things with a Protalker and japanese keyboard. This is little diffycult language to me for trying.What about Korean? Thanks to one motivation from one game I try to learn this languages. Also, there are chinese letters two. Hello,The keyboard is usable but a game controler is, in my opinion, a little easier. Its definitely quite a subjective thing because I know there are some keyboard players, in fact they recently added stuff to make some of the harder motions slightly easier to perform with a keyboard by basically increasing the timings slightly, in the technical terms we call it frames, but I think to get into frames and frame data here might be beyond this topic, and plus, I dont really get too much about what that is, just the basic idea.

Fare enough. I do have a question about beatstar however. Where exactly is your progress saved? I mean your unlocked soundpacks, number of beatcoins etc. I did notice a beatstar.dat file in my documents, but I dont know if there is a beatstar entry in application data. id be interested to know so that next time I move computers I can have the same progress on one copy as on another.

Funny I never knew there was a cheatcode for castaways, is it that good old midway up up down down left right left one?@Catfish, the game is quite possible without cheats, its all a matter of knowing what to build where and how, indeed there are a number of winning stratogies that people have employed. Its been quite some time sinse I played castaways myself, I need to give it another go actually.

Ah, that was probably why I never noticed a big damage difference, sinse most of the character races in entombed 1 are actually small, gnomes, halflings, dwarves, fairies (which are really! small), kobolds, and ratkin. I also got the impression that elves and goblins werent exactly hulking either. In fact now I think about it, it is odd how many magical races are tiny,  well not odd really, theres after all a hole tradition of celtic myths about elves and fairies which werent called the little people for nothing, not to mention Norse traditions about dwarves. So, methinks we need some larger (or at least human sized), races in the game to play such as dragonutes, maybe felines (to keep all the furry fans happy), perhaps drow, maybe lykans.

Strange behavior after installing Com 0 com.

Hi,I wasnt exactly sure where to put this, because its kind of game related, but probably isnt really. So I thought Id err on the side of caution and put it here.So today, I installed Com 0 Com to get Talking Dosbox working. Everything was going well. I finally got it to work, when Jaws and Flipper wouldnt work at all.Then, a few hours later, I tried to launch Road to Rage. Instead of opening, it just sat there. When I opened my task manager, I saw a TRTR.exe process, but I also saw something Ive never seen before. It was something like Acatel_SRV.exe. It took up a ton of processor power and RAM.My friend assures me that when he launches RTR, no such process appears in his task manager.My computer responded very sluggishly while these two processes were open. For as long as Ive had this PC, about 3 years, Ive never heard the fan run as hard as it was doing at that point. So I knew something was very wro
 ng. As soon as the Acapella process was killed, the fan speed dropped back to normal, which, in my computers case, is barely audible.Oh yeah, I googled the process, and according to a couple of process library sites, its an Acapella process. But it sure is behaving oddly for a legitimate application.I dont know whats causing this, but I can say that I didnt install or uninstall any other programs besides Com 0 Com before this problem occurred. I played Road to Rage this morning, and it worked fine. This was before I installed that.What could be the problem? Anything thats implanting unknown processes in my task manager that cause my computer to go crazy is not OK in my book. Yet, I dont want to uninstall Com 0 Com if I dont have to, because the DOS games are cool, and Ive wanted to play them in a dedicated environment for years.Besides, I highly doubt uninstalling Com 0 Com is a simple process. It installe
 d device drivers, and has its own subsection in device manager now. So I have a feeling its entangled with core components of Windows at this point.I have a Windows 7 professional, 32 bit system at the moment.

To those wondering, Im not dead, its just that Im somewhat busy with school and when I come back home quite often I just dont feel like working on anything big.There will be a new version eventually, and it will include a screen reader emulator. Guillem and myself are good friends so we talk pretty much every day. Its a very good idea to be patient (hint: sending me 5 messages asking the same thing in the spam of 2 days is not going to make things go any faster) ;-)

Hi,cool, a new disney pack will be great, thanks for that! I played the english rhythm heaven fever pack by the way for quite a while today and its just amazing! Really well done. And I still didnt manage to finish it. By the way, I got the pay attemtion achievement, and when the main menu came back after the achievement played, the menu music played for another 2 or 3 seconds and then stopped suddenly. Maybe this explosion indeed broke the game!

If you mean the random lines, something like the police or the gangsters at the casion use, then I think the character that you are controlling during the given mission can never talk, but your other gang members can. You can either hear them talking to the other characters in the stage as they are moving and fighting nnear you, or if you already have the ability to send people on missions without controlling them, you can often hear the character whose point of view you chose to observe the game from.Thats about it, I guess, if I understood your question correctly.Hope this helps,Lukas

A baseball bat can inflict a lot of damage on a stationary vehicle... but I doubt youd make much headway against a moving car going at typical road speeds... there is no way your momentum could match the cars. Your arm would as likely break from the momentum as not... best case scenario the bat would hit the car and go flying out of your hand. But this is a game, after all... I just meant if youre going to realism, using a baseball bat to attack an oncoming car doesnt make all that much sense...

@Rok, braille numbers on classrooms would be awsome, I wish my university had similar sinse its always a pest to be told to go to room 41 and know where the corridor is but not which of the rooms from 40-48 41 happens to be. Ironically the only braille labels in the university happen to be on the book shelves in the library,  that is right, the only braille labels are on the shelves of print! books! Crzy! Talking microwaves do work well, actually today at a Vi exhibition I picked up the cobalt catalogue and see they do a talking combination microwave, oven and grill which I will have a look at, sinse that definitely has possibilities. As for your friends project, Id suggest for a bathroom thing and something easy to produce braille labled tubs to hold shampoo, bath oil and shower geell. labelling the bottles isnt always practical, the bottles come in many different shapes and sizes and so pouring into a pre labled container
  would certainly help, especially if the lables were engraved or etched rather than just being stick on plastic braille ones that might end up falling off given that bathrooms are,  well you know, usually wet .

@Tikki your certainly not the first person who fancies a feline race in the game, and while I dont specifically go for the hole firry thing I can see they could be fun to play, especially unarmed. Thinking about the game and battles this afternoon a couple more suggestions occurred to me. Firstly, the chance of randomly occurring special circumstances for battles. Anyone who has played Smugglers 5 (either one), will know what Im thinking here. For those who havent, what I mean is that occasionally (say in a one in ten chance), you get a message at the beginning of a battle about some factor in the environment that has a major effect both upon you and the enemies and will change how a battle is fought. For exampl: you notice a glowing symbol on the wall and recognize it as an anti magic glyff. All magic is disabled or This is a narrow passage, you will only be able to attack in single file. No switching ranks, a
 nd only one person on each rank or The floor of this chamber if thick with oozing mud. All combatants have their speed reduced and are easier to hit Other effects could involve random damage or conditions occurring, eg, a volcanic cave where random bursts of lava occasionally damaged opponents, or a cave thick with poisonous mould where everyone risked poisoning, actually there are lots of possibilities.This sort of thing would mean yet more randomness for the game, and of course the need to change up your stratogy. In addition, it would be cool if you could tie these sorts of special events to a theme on a given floor. For example if there was a floor which was an old mine like in Entombed 1 have it full of unstable rocks that occasionally crashed on opponents, or the need to work around chasms or stalaktites, while a volcanic level, in addition to being populated with firy creatures might have lots of lava pits and flame bursts to work
  your way around. This was something I always thought might be fun in original Entombed given that some flaws did get a little draggy with repeating monsters, but even though Entombed 2 is set to be randomer than its predecessor (and randomer is a totally cromulant word), a little more couldnt hurt. Secondly I was thinking about status effects. The entombed 1 ones such as zombie rot, sleep, and poison, and indeed the buffs like haste or regeneration were very cool, and Id be glad to see them again, not to mention some new ones, fear to stop you attacking, strength or coordination boosts etc. However, it also occurred to me there could be other effects that played a slightly different part in the game. These you could call corruptions. What Im thinking is effects that dont immediately do anything bad, and dont increase unless you get jabbed with that effect again, however unless you watch it that effect builds up until nasty st
 uff starts to happen and eventually you lose the character altogether. one example I remember from one Angband varient I liked was slime. if a creature hit you with a slime infection, it wouldnt do much just add a few points of slime you could view on your character sheet. When however you started to get higher than 20 slime you began to move more slowly, occasionally youd start dropping your weapons, youd find yourself taking acid damage as your body turned to slime, and if you got over 30 slime that was that, youd been turned into a humanoid blob of slime and were doomed! (yes, you can all go yech now). Another example I remember reading about in one game was chaos taint. If you got hit by a chaos creature you started to build up the taint of chaos. At a certain level, random chaotic things would start happening, like youd grow thorns on your skin, morph into other forms, or send out waves of dark energy that stunned everything around yo
 u. chaos got too high and boom! you ended up completely losing yourself to chaos and became a chaos beast.Another example might be vampirism. Lets say being hit by one vampirism attack didnt do much, however once your character got to say around 12 vampirism, theyd randomly start performing a bite on other party members or enemies which would in turn increase their vampirism until eventually they turned into a full vampire, became a monster and needed killing. Other examples could include possession by spirits, madness, or lycanthropy.The thing with corruptions, is that they are a thing you manage throughout the game, sinse unlike other status effects like zombie rot or poison, they wont just go away after time, but in themselves at low levels theyre not too nasty, theyre just something that sits there in the background and before you know it bam! Also, corruptions by their very nature are harder to cure, you cant 
 just rest or glug down a potion, often to reduce or cure corruptions takes either special items or actions,  for example finding specific holy shrines while adventuring and preying to the right deity, getting specific blessings from items

It was odd, before I had it I wouldnt have said one was particularly necessary sinse those standard knob control ones (the ones that have one dial for setting temperature and one undernieth for time), are very accessible (you might not even need labels if you have a good timer), but Ive rather liked having it, though admitedly this is mostly because the generator in it is a bit uba so does stuff very quickly! . I cant speak for dishwashers though sinse Ive never really seen the point of them unless youve got about five people in your housewho eat regularly, sinse Im just on my own and only have my own pots to wash I just do them myself. As to running things through smart phone, well I never really see why you would need! a smart fridge, sinse hay, its a fridge, you put stuff in, it makes stuff cold! what else do you want? I suppose smart phone control of something like an oven or microwave would work, but that seems a tad overkill in the software department when the things are easy enough to make accessible,
  or in the case of microwaves exist in an accessible form anyway. About the best appliance you could control via smartphone would be a washing machine sinse there are so many programs and the knobs are fiddly. In kitchin design, the best I could think of access wise would be say some none stick counter tops to make pouring easier and not make spilling stuff so dire, plus an oven with those contact hobs that only keep hot when you put stuff on them, not to touch,  although again, kevla oven gloves are wonderful things! .

Thats true, you wouldnt get very far if you tried to swing a baseball bat at a moving vehicle. But what if you whipped it out and just threw it at the car as it passed? That would probably be enough to distract the driver and make them get in an accident, lol.Besides, we lack audio games in which you can use projectiles to destroy things. We always have guns, lasers and knives. Not that theres anything wrong with that, but I would love to see a game where you can just wing objects at people. The broken bottles in Psycho Strike were a good example of this, but other than that, I dont think we have any other games where you can do that.Bricks or rocks could be another idea for stuff to throw at passing cars in this game.

Some of the items are not well labeled, others dont have descriptions, which could help determine how to best use them, and the water evaporating from the pots would add even more realism to the game. I would also like to make a few suggestions. Since we already can carve wood and make shafts, it would be great if that shaft could be the foundation for many new weapons. For example, you could craft a long shaft, add the branch, and use the knife to cut a tip at the end of the branch to make a spear, which would be used to hunt game, or fight other players from longer distances. You could even design the spear so that it could be both swung like a knife and thrown as a projectile, which could do as much damage as an arrow from ten tiles away. I also find that cutting trees down with a small knife is time-consumi

Heh, its interesting that I met the guy who put this version out there only a few weeks back.The things stopping me from giving Emacspeak a whirl are the frequent issues I keep running into and the less than helpful responses I get to these issues on the Emacspeak list, which cannot really be called newbie-friendly.For example, it appears these days there is a preconfigured Ubuntu package of a relatively recent version of emacspeak these days, and it works using the eSpeak synthesizer. And it works, but one of Emacspeaks, at least in my opinion, unique features, namel the reading of different types of texts in differnt voice pitches, which is especially useful for coding, doesnt work using the default synth (eSpeak) it comes with. Or ...it barely works, is a better way to phrase it. To get that functionality, you have to grab the Voxin speech synthesizer for a few bucks and then use their install script, which of course decided to not work properly fo
 r me and to render emacspeak mute...either I am cursed regarding this program, or it is just notoriously finicky Balliol

I start seeing how I missed out on a huge lot of things when Ive never had the opportunity to play many RPGs or roguelikes, with a sighted friend or something like that.The whole idea of random environmental factors, or some specific ones being tied to a certain floor or room, and especially the corruptions thing sounds absolutely fantastic to me! Im only starting to be able to imagine how much more complex something like this would make the entire game. No matter how cool it sounds, I doubt the full extent of what you suggest will make it in at the end, as that would probably mean more coding and implementation difficulties than Jason is willing to for, when these things havent been planned since the very beginning. But after all, what do we know? :-) Im just going to wait for the next test version and the ones after that to see whats in store for us, holding my breath. :-)Lukas

Ahh, but Windows XP does use that folder You will likely know it better as c:\documents and settings\ though. I think this is a simple issue of no quotes around the path, which makes this break since there is a space in Documents and Settings, which Windows doesnt like if there are no quotes around it. In win7 or later, this dir is called c:\users and therefore is less of a problem. c:\documents is a folder that doesnt exist, and likely you dont have access granted to the emacspeak batch file to write on your root c: drive ...so I reckon that is the problem.

Hello everyone,After a few weeks to months of coding and sound design within our spare time, and with headaches after busy schooldays, and the nerves jumping down on me due to an exam i have tomorrow, we can present the first beta release of the your_adventure game.Todays changes are:- added a new location, the dalgrim grane fields and a sublocation there, the mill.- added the harvesting skill, together with achievements, levels, experience etc.- raised the energy to 15.- added the harvesting knife, this you will need to make it possible to harvest the grane in the fields.- added grane and the flour resource in the inventory.- added the possibility to grind the grane into flour. this is currently in a one to one ratio and has no experience levels included yet. this depents if the community wants this or not.- added two new musical themes for traveling and the grane fields.- made the cooking script a seperate scri
 pt so we can use it on other places than in the tavern only.- added a second type of fish (salmon)- added a second fishing spot where you can catch salmons- gave the old fisherman an upgrade, we gave him a menu with the two types of fish build in, so you can sell both types.- fixed the prices again for the fhishes you can sell to the old fisherman.- we gave the salmon fishing spot a level requirement, see the game wich level.- added two types of food. Ive come across that as well, it sticks on my lock screen,Swipe with two fingers to unlock the screen. Camera, double tap to activate camera, etc etc, etc This is really boring.Dim screen is also a great feature I like, although my battery is still strong and survives much.

Since ya met him, and I did send him an email, i think... Wondering how his version of emacspeak could work on XP SP3.I daily use chrome OS, though keep the XP machine for nastalja. The problem Im having, is it is giving me a permission denied message, and is pointing to c:/documents, which XP of course doesnt use that directory.Sor for now, using Emacspeak 39.0, with emacs 24.5.

Hello!is there any way to save the list of inventory items on the server? this way, when the inventories are reset, we those who dont wana lose the items could ask you, then you look at the list and give the related items, on claim. I am all for the inventory update, but, if there could be any way to claim those items back, then it would be a good idea. anyways, marvlous work , and I really appreciate your efforts and the time you devote towards this project. we need to have a lots of games those which are this good.

@jsymes, all felines will have a cause sneezing attack! . @Lukas, actually the random environmental thing (though it certainly exists in many inaccessible rpgs that I happen to know something about the mechanics of), can be seen in two very good accessible games, Smugglers 5 (both Secession and invasion), and Kerkerkruip. Smugglers 5 actually has the random special events occur every so often during battles, while Kerkerkruip has them in a dungeon environment, but they work the same way. In terms of coding, part of the thought with these ideas is they add a lot of complexity without! extensive code reshuffling, though being as I dont know how the Entombed ii code works I could of course be wrong. For example, if you have a poison effect already in the game it should be easy enough to set it to trigger in battles and affect all npcs and p
 layer characters, similarly, doing damage every round should just mean a matter of effectivey just attacking everyone in the round with a certain damage type and attack occasionally (and my understanding of random dice rolls dont tend to be hard to program).Whether the random special encounters could be made specific to a floor or there would need to be one huge pool of them for the entire dungeon I dont know, but the basic idea shouldnt be a problem in theory albeit I might be %100 wrong. Same goes for corruption, its just a matter of tracking a value and having affects happen when that value hits a certain point, no different really to tracking character hp. Again, how random effects get and what happens when corruptions hit certain levels could be interesting programming wise, but basically having a value that increases until it goes boom shouldnt be too problematic, (indeed probably less so than conditions like slow or sleep). I
  will admit with Angband i did get very lucky in finding the one roguelike which had both large graphic tyles that I could see and screen reader friendly output as well (Ive tried several others but no dice), however the corruption idea is one Ive heard of in lots of games,  heck quite a few of the choiceofgames titles use something similar, not to mention the hyper nasty erotic rpg Flexible survival. That one is! accessible if people want to give it a go (check the database however be sure to read the description), although i found it far too uncomfrotable to play personaly due to my genophobia.

the q key in the learn sounds option plays a freeze or stop sound which, when you hear it in the actual game means you are supposed to stop and not push anything until the next sound. Its just so you know which sound means stop or freeze.

seems like a very highly updated advanced version of bobbit or simon persay witch is awesome.  however, I have an issue. there is an option or sound ware u have to press the q key. well when in the game, maybe others havent had thiss issue but it, gets me out every time. I have to let it skip over that option to do the remaining options.  truly I wish I could hear the sounds to follow and not the actual talkin. maybe a sound for shake me or what not. cause for me it would be a bit easier. just an idea.  but hey someone help me out and dont worry developer. I will be donating as soon as I can.
