Re: getting started with apache for windows?

I know that apple has OS 10 server, which (as I understand it), basically lets you host your own mini iCloud. It's 20 bucks (again, last I knew of it), and runs on existing mac hardware. But honestly? Unless your a big enterprise that's really not what you need. Now if you've got a mac just sitting around, always on, connected to the internet? Sure, you could make that a server. But generally home PCs are not what you want for a server, even a small personal one. Better to run a VM with a cloud service, re-purpose (and by re-purpose, I mean take an old computer down to your mom's basement, hook it up to the net, slap a Linux OS on it, maybe give it a few harddrives, and accept that it's gonna stay there, doing nothing else but be your server...), buy a pi, etc.

A program that I nead, can you help?

Hi allHave a nice day. I want a simple and accessible program that can listen to my recording device, and play it back to me so I can listen to my own voice. But here, I want a program that I can control the pitch of my voice while listening, eg let's say that the chosen recording device is my headset's microphone, ok, it's listening now and I'm hearing my own voice in my default output sound device, I've changed the pitch of the playback and I'm talking now and hearing my voice differently from my normal voice, bigger or smaller according to my adjustment to the pitch. Clounfish can do that but only in a call, can you give me the best program to do this process?

A variable name is just arbitrary. That's why you have to create an array of account objects. plus,
once you have like 400 accounts, managing each one by its name would suck anyway. You could create a function that returns an account object so that you could more easily deal with them though, something likeaccount@ get_account(string username) {for(uint x=0; x

So I've gone through and worked it all out in my head and I believe this solves my problems just fine. The only thing I'm having a hard time deciding is if I want to put my movement code, weapon code, and collision code  in the account class, or if I want to have the functions run forloops with the accounts. From my understanding this problem pretty much equates to deciding if you should write 2+3=5 or 3+2=5. Is there a factor that I'm just not thinking of that would determine which direction I should go with this?

Re: Swamp, zombie FPS by Aprone

I was going to bring up the point on realism, but, when you're quite able to run around the maps whilst carrying enough weaponry and ammunition to feed an entire army, I thought it perhaps wouldn't be a very strong argument. At the end of the day, Swamp isn't trying to be realistic, it's merely attempting to be a game that's fun to play for many people of varying skill levels. It's taking inspiration from numerous different areas and patching them together to create what it's so far become.Of course there will be people who aren't overly pleased about certain bits of it, but, remember, it's a multiplayer game, which means it's trying to suit the playerbase as a whole.I'm of course not trying to say that players are unable to voice their opinions: I'm sure all ideas and complaints are listened to a
nd considered. I'm just trying to point out the bigger picture.

Re: Introducing: Out of Sight Games

Hey all,Sorry I haven't given you anything new or exciting for a while - my job gets super crazy in December and I basically have to step back from game-related things until after Christmas every year. But in lieu of some new info for you all, how about I give you something to discuss? Your responses would be helpful for us as well.In our upcoming game, you can choose from a variety of classes, each of which grants access to certain unique skills and abilities, and favors certain play styles. My question for you to discuss is - what's your preferred play style? Which of these classes do you tend to go for in other games? Which sounds like the most fun, or the least fun? I'd just love to hear you discuss anything related to the classes, so here they are:Warrior - The undisputed master of physical combat, skilled in both melee and ranged attacks, with access to brutal melee attacks and defensive techniques available only to Warriors.R
anger - The best class for those who prefer ranged combat, Rangers can also hold their own with melee weapons and have access to limited stealth and healing magic as well.Thief - Thieves have access to a wide range of class-specific skills that allow them to evade damage, reduce your enemies' effectiveness in battle, and even gain extra items and gold. They are competent with both melee and ranged weapons.Battlemage - The most balanced class, with access to melee and ranged skills as well as some offensive, defensive and restorative magic.Mage - The ultimate magic users, mages tend to use magic exclusively, and have access to many powerful spells unavailable to other classes.Priest - A priest is primarily focused on healing and support skills. Re: survive the wild: hunting

Personally I think the boomerang is probably the best weapon for hunting over all, it does well on rabbits and wolves, and even bears in a pinch, it used to be able to be found in the campsite but I haven't found it there recently, still, if you can get your hands on one it's great. The best weapon you can actually build your self is probably the crossbow, because it holds 5 shots and while it reloads slowly, it can be fired quickly and the ammunition is extremely easy to make, it also does decent damage and has a range about comparable to the revolver as far as I know. You make the crossbow by combining a string with a branch three times, so that you have 3 tied branches, then just combine 2 of the tied branches to make a broken bow, combine that with your third tied branch to make a broken crossbow, combine that with a piece of wood, and finish that disfigured crossbow with your knife.Arrows are just branch plus knife, and you hold the ar
row in one hand and the crossbow in the other, pressing T multiple times to load the arrows until you either run out or fill it to capacity, then you can put them away until needed, though they will be unloaded on logout. In terms of hunting, the way that the animals move is as follows.Rabbits move quickly in a curving path, then stop for a few seconds, and move again, they also make allot of squeaking noises while doing so.Wolves move at a slowish pace, but seem to have a long stride, they could be on 1 side of you in the first second and on the other in the next. they sometimes attack on sight and run away too fast to follow, but they usually just jog through without incident.  When you make them angry by hitting them, they'll come after you, sometimes breaking off the attack to follow a more promising target or just to mislead you farther, so don't be surprised if a wolf is hit by someone near you, starts to attack them back, then sud
denly runs up and bites you instead before dodging away.Bears move quite slowly, but determinedly, so unless you give them a reason to change direction they won't, but if you do attack them, they will head towards you, sometimes moving slightly left or right in the process, and then they will maul the hell out of you until you back up and break off your efforts. The way I hunt rabbits is to firstly make sure that I'm at an optimal range to make a kill, otherwise it's more than likely that they'll be gone before I can get into the correct position anyway, this is usually 25 tiles at maximum.I check the rabbit's position at least every second with the A key, and make sure that it is very slightly left or right and forward of me before even attempting a shot, I also sort of build a rectangular box encompassing both of us in my mind, so that I know when very slight turns to slight, which is the edge of that box, then I try to find t
he centerpoint which is where the rabbit will be, and fire, then I move 1 to the left, fire, 1 to the right, fire, and again 1 to the right fire,or vice versa and check position to see if they moved and I need to aquire the rabbit's position again, something which I do not attempt to do if they are already more than 30 tiles away. However, with rabbits, at least at first, as long as you are fast enough and have a decent amount of energy to spare, it's almost better to go after them with a melee weapon like an axe or a hammer.I'd say that the most difficult thing about hunting rabbits would be when you're in a constantly changing group of them, since the game isn't very good at telling you which is the most valuable target, and therefore you end up wasting time making sure your on track to the right one with each press of the A key, and you get distracted by the running and squeaking sounds of the other animals. The best places to find rabbits
would be northwest of the pond, and in the dirt trail across the bend in the river between the leaves and weeds, as well as anywhere within the weed pile really.Wolves are probably the most difficult animals to hunt, because they move so quickly, so unlike rabbits, as soon as you get one with A, you should memorize the position and rapidly attempt to get to the last known location. Once you do so, you should stay out of the wolfs path while paralleling it and keeping it ahead of you, then you should attempt a few shots when you get the very slightly left or right message, once you get the wolf mad, it's easy enough to find it most of the time, but the trick is to not let it find you, so keep backing up and listening to how loud your shot impacts are to gage the distance between you and it, because if it does get you, it won't do allot of damage, but it would almost certainly leap away and be hard to find again. If you keep it up though, then you ca
n lead the wolf right to it's death, but note that with a weapon that has limited ammo, this may not work as well, while at the same time, using a melee weapon on a wolf is difficult because

Re: survive the wild: hunting

Defender pretty much told you most of the things you need to know, better than I could have. So I will just tell you what he missed:If you don't have a boomerang yet, the best t short-ranged  thing to have is a speer. it is as strong as a hammer (stronger?), but has a longer range. Or you could go with an axe, but those are a bit slower I think and have a much shorter range. Even if you have a lance, using those while killing rabbits is useless (even your knife has a longer range and rabbits die quickly), and for bears and wolves it is quite a hard job, because they are so slow and have 2 tiles range. For wolves and bears, if you don't want to fight at the moment, eather run away, or find a tree and climb on it. If you want loads of fighting with bears, you could also go to t the forrest in the middle of nowhere (in stw most people call it just bear forrest), because that is their home. But try not to be without shields. And if you can, stock up on someth
ing that increases your health (health drugs will increace it to naximally 1000, so don't use them if your health is high. bandaids can increace it past the limit, also mints, but mints are not good in a pinch, they give you only 5 health)Have fun, don't die! Be careful of mad rabbits!

Ooh, good question. Yeah, what class you choose doesn't have any direct impact on the story, just on what skills and other options are available as you progress in level. I like the idea of different classes having different arcs available to them - I know some mainstream games (DragonAge, I believe?) have different intro sequences depending on your class. But that was a little more ambitious than anything we wanted to accomplish this time around. Great question though.

In Alter Aeon, i multi-classed primarily going for mage as that's the one I learned about when I first played, eventually getting warrior skills and cleric spells, with a couple of thief skills like backstab, but mostly warrior, mage, and healing related stuff.

Re: Introducing: Out of Sight Games

Yep. We tried to build in replay value in a few ways. 1 - personally, I'd want to go back and play as different classes, to see what kind of skills they have access to, and get to use them. And from a roleplaying perspective, it's just fun to go back and play as a different type of character (okay, this one will just use swords and fire magic, etc.); 2 - There are certain choices you can make in-game that will open or close some options to you. If you want to know how things would have panned out if you'd decided to return that stolen item, instead of letting your thief friend keep it...you'll have to go back and play it again. 3 - Certain conversations, or parts of conversations, only trigger if the right party member is travelling with you at the time. Most of these conversations don't have a significant impact on the story or gameplay itself, but they do keep things fresh and interesting, and you may find yourself wondering, "I wonder if that other
party member would have had something to say about this, if they'd been with me?"By nature of being more story-driven, as opposed to being built off of total randomization, there are always going to be limits to the replayability of a game like this. But between the scope of the game and the reasons that do exist to replay it, I think it will keep people entertained for a good long while...

Hello,It doesn't matter which side she is on, but your bow has a minimum and maximum range thaat you need to figure out. You can actually overshoot her position and miss, so there's a bit of balancing to do, a lot of retreating and then firing, but it's learning where to fire that can be a bit tricky. Oncew you figure it out though it's really quite easy and you can master the bow.

Re: Where do you get your music?

@Sebby, even though Drm for all content is something hat Apple have had to relax on, I still am of the opinion the implicit difficulties with Itunes interacting with anything none Apple are entirely intentional on Apple's part. As to getting stuff from Itunes, several times I tried ripping cds into Itunes to see if I could find them. I could play them with the play menu but could I find the files? could I hell. In the same way, I never really got the hole sink thing, sinse all I wanted to do was put stuff on my Iphone from my existing library, what did it need to sink for? When however I did sink stuff, unless I created playlist folders to mirror my own folder structure, I couldn't find them on the phone either, or mirrors of them in the my music/itunes folder. Of course, Itunes is such an unwieldy hog to navigate with all it's trees and macabre functions (why the hell a media system has to be used for backing up ap data and god knows what),
it's entirely possible I made a mistake, however why should! I! have to be the one who has to "Get used to" Apple's program and way of doing things, I'm the customer, Apple should serve me! Then again I know that's a radical idea for most modern businesses who tend to view customers as simply a convenient way to convert sellables into prophet with no more individual desire than a conveyer belt.Compare the situation to just plugging in my Victor stream and going copy with whatever the heck I want, indeed the first time I did this last October the ease was amazing! no more difficult than when I used to copy stuff onto my laptop. As I said, that people like Itunes and libraries and such I don't have a problem with, my problem is the "one way or else!" attitude, which is why until Apple give us a usable file system for putting media on and off Ios devices I shan't be either buying anything through Itunes on my phone o
r playing any media on it either. All that being said, I can say in terms of pure hardware and some functions of the Os I do like the Ios system very much, heck I was well impressed last night trying out blindfold breakout with just how fun controlling the bat with a gyro was, reminded me of playing the original Atari version with those twistable paddle controllers. So, please don't mistake me for a total Apple Hater, I'm just a total Itunes hater :d.

Re: Swamp, zombie FPS by Aprone

Realism has nothing to do with Swamp gameplay. If we were ever to try and make Swamp realistic, you'd only be able to carry a limited amount of ammo, have only one life per character, would take for ever to heal wounds despite the application of medkits, would be so slow in your heavy armour that tyrants would stomp all over you with their long stride, your guns would jam from firing with any degree of rapidity, you'd only be able to carry at best a few light weapons (less so when you include the encumbrance of ammunition), you'd get tired from running around (specially while carrying gear), etc. Many of Swamp's elements were implemented in they way they are for gameplay purposes. Field kits are treated as weapons to make healing an actual effort -- being able to heal and fire at the same time takes some of the challenge out of Swamp, in a game which many people already view isn't that difficult to begin with. it's for the same gameplay reason t
hat zombies ignore terrain damage, while players are subject to it -- if zombies could be hurt by the environment, you could just lead zombies onto fire tiles, run around somewhere close that they can't necessarily reach, and watch them all burn to death. In particular, I think it'd make medical missions too easy, given all the fire through the building.Conversely, though, a lot of considerations are made to make gameplay less annoying. The ability to surpass the ammunition specifications with a skill comes to mind.Kai

Re: ODE journal

2015-12-09 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : CAE_Jones via Audiogames-reflector

Re: ODE journal

(Oh, hey, there was more that I never posted. Probably because I wanted a small test program to go with it, and never followed up on that.)2:34 PM 10/19/2015:I typed "I do not understand ODE joints" into Google, and lo and behold: the official ODE user guide: http://www.ode.org/ode-latest-userguide.htmlLet's see if this helps in the slightest, shall we?OK, first, let's decide to make something to use as a test application. Preferably something short. Preferably-preferably something I can complete in the next 10 or so days. So a Halloween theme would be neat. So, OK, let's take the easy way out and model pumpkins as spheres, even though they are not spheres and are structured such that they don't actually roll all that easily. And we can build people like Snowmen or something: upper body, lower body, joint that connects them.I'd still like cones or conics, because how else would you model a stereotypical witch, other than with a cone on top of a sphere on top of a capsule merged with a cone? (Apparently, this game will not include people with arms.)But that's irrelevant. Let's make sure we understand the engine well enough to actually use it.An excerpt from the features list:• Joint types: ball-and-socket, hinge, slider (prismatic), hinge-2, fixed, angular motor, universal.I don't really know what the last four are, but I can sorta try to guess (is a Fixed joint just sticking two objects together to make a new object? Say cone + sphere = icecream cone? Also, why doesn't ODE have cones? Cones aren't that hard, are they?)This is less restrictive than it sounds:• Collision primitives: sphere, box, capped cylinder, plane, ray, and triangular mesh. The ray is the important part. Raycasting is one of those things that comes up a lot in mainstream game development discussions, but for audio games, that's what we'd want to use to create a Swamp-style radar.Meshes are complicated, if I remember correctly. Let's ignore them until I figure out how to learn math from the internet.Friction:• Contact and friction model: This is based on the Dantzig LCP solver described by Baraff, although ODE implements a faster approximation to the Coloumb friction model. That would sound nice, if I hadn't left off on "contact joints? Anchors? I'm confused!".• Has a native C interface (even though ODE is mostly written in C++).This is more helpful than it sounds. I think. I'm not really sure.Random side note: Springs and sponges. Would be great if I had any idea how to influence ERP and CFM. They're just kinda mentioned without any explanation as to ... ah, anyway:By adjusting the values of ERP and CFM, you can achieve various effects. For example you can simulate springy constraints, where the two bodies oscillate as though connected by springs. Or you can simulate more spongy constraints, without the oscillation. In fact, ERP and CFM can be selected to have the same effect as any desired spring and damper constants. If you have a spring constant kp and damping constant kd, then the corresponding ODE constants are:ERP = h kp / (h kp + kd)CFM = 1 / (h kp + kd)where h is the stepsize. These values will give the same effect as a spring-and-damper system simulated with implicit first order integration.I have no idea what stepsize is--is that dt in our simulation stepping?Anyway, oscilators is about where gen physics lost me, which is weird because they always look really simple and are quite useful. So, let's put this on the "for later" burner. The important part - collision detection:Collisions between bodies or between bodies and the static environment are handled as follows: 1. Before each simulation step, the user calls collision detection functions to determine what is touching what. These functions return a list of contact points. Each contact point specifies a position in space, a surface normal vector, and a penetration depth.2. A special contact joint is created for each contact point. The contact joint is given extra information about the contact, for example the friction present at the contact surface, how bouncy or soft it is, and various other properties.3. The contact joints are put in a joint "group", which allows them to be added to and removed from the system very quickly. The simulation speed goes down as the number of contacts goes up, so various strategies can be used to limit the number of contact points.4. A simulation step is taken.5. All contact joints are removed from the system. Note that the built-in collision functions do not have to be used - other collision detection libraries can be used as long as they provide the right kinds of contact point information.Ok. I think. This looks about like I'd expect, too:A typical simulation will proceed like this: 1. Create a dynamics world. 2. Create bodies in the dynamics world. 3. Set the state (position etc) of all bodies. 4. Create joints in the dynamics world. 5. Attach the joints to the bodies. 6. Set the parameters of all joints. 7. Create a

Re: ODE journal

Hinges have an axis (makes sense, I guess?) and you can get the angle and angle rate for the hinge's current configuration.Question... if we try and combine joints, such that we have multiple hinges linked... will the axis remain stable... Wait, for that matter, I don't actually know how to define axes as vectors. Is the line that passes through both the vector and the origin the axis? That could be kinda weird. Is it the angle of the line that passes through the point and the origin? ... My education regarding vectors was abismal. I still have no idea what dot and cross product are or why or how they work. I just copied some _javascript_ functions on the off chance that I'll need them for something.*ahem*Sliders have an axis, and they have getPosition instead of getAngle, because they slide instead of rotate.Universal joints look interesting. It'd help if the examples came before the technical definition, because by the time I ge
t to the examples, my attention is slipping.A universal joint is like a ball and socket joint that constrains an extra degree of rotational freedom. Given axis 1 on body 1, and axis 2 on body 2 that is perpendicular to axis 1, it keeps them perpendicular. In other words, rotation of the two bodies about the direction perpendicular to the two axes will be equal. In the picture, the two bodies are joined together by a cross. Axis 1 is attached to body 1, and axis 2 is attached to body 2. The cross keeps these axes at 90 degrees, so if you grab body 1 and twist it, body 2 will twist as well.A Universal joint is equivalent to a hinge-2 joint where the hinge-2's axes are perpendicular to each other, and with a perfectly rigid connection in place of the suspension.Universal joints show up in cars, where the engine causes a shaft, the drive shaft, to rotate along its own axis. At some point you'd like to change the d
irection of the shaft. The problem is, if you just bend the shaft, then the part after the bend won't rotate about its own axis. So if you cut it at the bend location and insert a universal joint, you can use the constraint to force the second shaft to rotate about the same angle as the first shaft.Another use of this joint is to attach the arms of a simple virtual creature to its body. Imagine a person holding their arms straight out. You may want the arm to be able to move up and down, and forward and back, but not to rotate about its own axis.Something something cars, got it. ... Not really. I don't got it. But we'll move on, anyway.Hinge-2? OK! Hey, look, the example comes first this time! W00t!The hinge-2 joint is the same as two hinges connected in series, with different hinge axes. An example, shown in the above picture is the steering wheel of a car, where one axi
s allows the wheel to be steered and the other axis allows the wheel to rotate. The hinge-2 joint has an anchor point and two hinge axes. Axis 1 is specified relative to body 1 (this would be the steering axis if body 1 is the chassis). Axis 2 is specified relative to body 2 (this would be the wheel axis if body 2 is the wheel).Axis 1 can have joint limits and a motor, axis 2 can only have a motor.Axis 1 can function as a suspension axis, i.e. the constraint can be compressible along that axis. The hinge-2 joint where axis1 is perpendicular to axis 2 is equivalent to a universal joint with added suspension.I think we just confirmed that axes are described relative to the bodies, which I hope means that (1, 0, 0) is pointing to the right, no matter what the center of the body is. Hey, since we're describing an axis, would (1, 0, 0), (-1, 0, 0), and (9001, 0, 0) all be the same axis?Fixed joints do exactly what I guesse
d, except:The fixed joint maintains a fixed relative position and orientation between two bodies, or between a body and the static environment. Using this joint is almost never a good idea in practice, except when debugging. If you need two bodies to be glued together it is better to represent that as a single body.Oh, bah. You talk like I have the faintest idea how body concatination works. Also, it seems like setFixed applies to ... all joints? Hmm. Ominous. The contact joint section is big and complicated and has lots of parameters. Dragons live there.Well, that was tiring. Let's go restore some AP by fighting monsters.3:54 PM 10/19/2015.

Otherwise, it's too much of a hassle to install, print, uninstall, so I just leave it installed. I just remove it as the default PDF file handler.

Re: Introducing: Out of Sight Games

That's a great point; versatility, whether gained through the party or by virtue of the class you choose, is always a plus. Especially when it comes to different enemies you may encounter. For example, ghosts are completely impervious to physical attacks, and must be taken out with magic (there's a pro tip for you). On the other hand, if you encounter a Dark Mage decked out in magical defensive gear, you're going to find that he's pretty resistant against most spells you throw at him. And if you find yourself fighting a Dark Mage with a couple of Ghost buddies, then you'll really be glad you have different types of attacks available. So having that variety of skills at your fingertips is a great way to finish off enemies quicker, and thereby stay alive longer.

Apple could have been people friendly and simply made their devices look like external mass storage devices with preset folders for where to put things, like music, videos, podcasts, books, etc. The let the users organize things their way.Or if they had to have iTunes, make it flexible enough to work with the user, like Microsoft did with their Zune software, not against them.Sebby wrote:Are you sure you don't just hate Apple and all its satisfied customers with a burning passion? Now, let's not get personal. As for Apple, I was a huge fan during the Apple 2's heyday, I worked at an Apple dealer doing customer service and technical support, and was well known around the area for my skills with the Apple 2, there wasn't anything I couldn't find

I didn't like it from the start, you were too isolated from the machine for my tastes. Then Jobs started a civil war within Apple between the Apple 2 and Macintosh teams that caused the demise of the Apple 2 and almost drove Apple itself out of business. When I saw where the Apple 2 was going with the Apple 2gs, I sold off all my Apple 2 stuff while the gittin' was good, and jumped into the IBM compatible PC market with both feet and ignored Apple ever since. The only reason I have an iPhone now is because, two years ago I needed an accessible phone and Android's accessibility back then was pretty bad.Same for the iPod, the only reason I have it is because I needed something accessible to replace my inaccessible Zune player. Now I have the very accessible Victor Reader Stream to rep

Easy, peasy. The contract for my iPhone expires this month, so if I want to I can now change phones, I plan to revisit Android because I liked it so much better than iOS.No, I don't hate Apple or its customers, I just choose to want more choices than Apple wants to give me, so I choose to avoid them as much as I can.iOS is a walled garden, and no matter how pleasant you make it, a prison is still a prison.

Thanks all for the tips.  I'll read through them and give them a try later.I have heard a lot of people referring to "drugs," but I am unsure of where to get them.  How are they obtained?  Also, what campsite are you all speaking of?  I'm assuming I need the boat to get to the other portions of the game.

Not sure what you mean there. It's a matter of checking the security cart routes and making sure they aren't heading in the same direction as you so they can spot you. How can you make it into the second room if you can't get through the first door? lol If it's the stage I'm thinking, you have to fight one security cart in that room to finish the stage.

Re: Future coltures of people?

Maybe, but the USA and the UK can be the greatest of allies, and still get wiped off the face of the planet as collateral damage when a couple of crazies in the middle east decide to duke it out with nuclear weapons or some other form of mass destruction. And then there's the planet itself, even if we avoid killing ourselves off. We are affecting its climate and rapidly depleting its resources while it is still our only viable home.We talk a lot about doing something about climate change and improving conservation of the planets resources in the hopes of creating a sustainable civilization, but we don't really do anything towards actually achieving it.As lazy as the human race is, we'll finally decide to really do something about climate change or resource depletion when we realize it's too late and all we can do is maybe buy ourselves a little more time. But that won't do any good, because once mankind precieves the end of civilization
as he knows it, we'll squander what remaining resources there are by fighting over them.

Re: Where do you get your music?

@Figment, while I've made my own thoughts on Itunes very clear, I will say that whatever else, the Iphone is a superior experience as a basic tablet/smartphone, both in terms of it's own native access, and in terms of what has been created for it. Yes, those developers had to pay Apple, but as I said there's a point of taking the bad with the good, and Ios has a lot of good especially for Vi users. Games, useful aps from satnav to identification software, natively useful functions like Siri etc.Feel free to try out Android if you wish. For me however the decision to buy an Iphone was always based on the fact of what I could do with it, and with games like king of dragon pass, Pappasangre and much more going it wasn't really a contest, indeed even now in terms of purely usable applications and games and such the Android situation could be better. I have also heard Android can! still have access problems due to the amount of different service
providers mucking about with the os configuration and the fact that one Android device might not have even basic optimized functions for Accessibility, indeed I did hear talkback had troubles with basic html pages outside of Google chrome, though it is entirely possible that problem was fixed. I'm not going to start the Android debate, particularly sinse personally as Android has far less available games and applications than Ios it was never something I considered or looked into myself, and so my knolidge is second hand. I however would recommend considering that just because Apple's handling of media and intigration is pretty crappy, that doesn't mean everything iss, rabbid fans or not. Myself, I'll take the good and find alternatives to the bad stuff, which is why I have a pocket in my shoulder bag reserved just for my Iphone, my Victor, and my earbuds which I keep in a very awesome little tin with a dragon on it, because dragons are cool!

Re: ODE journal

2015-12-09 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : camlorn via Audiogames-reflector

Re: ODE journal

Note that ODE likes relative coordinate systems, and that your joint axes are relative to bodies in the local coordinate systems of the bodies.  Furthermore, an axis is almost certainly a unit vector, and using anything else will probably silently cause bad things.  You have been warned.  ODE is not helpful for audiogames.  It is simply a way to waste a bunch of time going nowhere.  Use Box2D, or only use ODE's geometry collision functions.  A 3D game at the level of the sighted is not possible; any effort in that direction will almost certainly need to write a custom physics engine that's friendly to audiogames.Anyhow, that's not why I'm bothering to post.  Here is everything I know about the dot and cross product that I can share without you knowing Calculus or at least how to parameterize lines and stuff.  If this looks complicated, it is until you get it; like much of math, it's the most obvious thing in th
e world once you get it.  It's harder without pictures, though, yes.Let's do cross first, because it's more useful when trying to build 3D engines.  There are formulas for it in 2 and 3 dimensions on Wikipedia.  It is not defined in anything greater than 3 dimensions (except maybe also 7, but you'll never use that one if it is and I think maybe that's complex number analogs and not this).  It is not defined in 1 dimension because 1-dimensional quantities are scalars.Consider the 2d plane.  If I draw two vectors, I have two sides of a parallelogram.  When I take the cross product, I'm going to get the area of the imaginary parallelogram.  The sign depends on which vector is first.  To determine it, use the right-hand rule: place the four fingers of your right hand in the direction of the first vector, curl them towards the second vector, and consider the direction your thumb has to point if you stick it
out.  If it's upwards, it's positive; otherwise it's negative. One other useful property is that if you halve the area you get out, you get the area of the imaginary triangle that you'd get if you pretend that the vectors you drew were two sides of one.  On account that every triangle can be defined only with two of its sides as vectors, this works as an area formula for any triangle ever.Okay.  SO if you don't get that, practice it.  Or ask for clarification,.  Or something.  I might be able to go in depth on the visualizations a bit more, but it's hard.SO...3D.In 3 dimensions, every pair of two vectors lie in a plane.  It doesn't matter which two vectors you give me, as long as they're not pointing in the same or opposite directions.  If the angle is not 0 or 180, I can take an imaginary sheet of paper and position it so that both vectors are lying on it.  This is one of tw
o ways to define a plane. When I take the cross product in 3 dimensions, I get a vector instead of a scalar.  The length of this vector (Pythagorean theorem) is the parallelogram's area.  The direction is still done with the right-hand rule in the same way as you did with 2D, but your thumb is now free to point in any direction.  If you take this vector and you normalize it (divide all components by magnitude), you have a normal (in the game sense, not the math sense; the math sense doesn't care about length) to the plane in which the other two vectors lie.In either 2 or 3 dimensions, the cross product of vectors pointing in the same or opposite directions is 0.  In 3D space, the vector (0, 0, 0) is ambiguous, and there are an infinite number of planes you could pick.If you get all of this, you're now about 6 inches from knowing how to write down any 3D rotation matrix from a pair of vectors representing the orientation of an objec
 t.  You're also within about 6 inches of being able to write down equations for planes.Dot is easier.  Dot is computed in one of two ways. You can take the magnitude of both vectors and the angle between them (say a for angle, p and q for magnitudes), and then do cos(a)*p*q.Alternatively, given vectors p and q, it's p.x*q.x+p.y*q.y+p.z*q.z.Which means that you have a way to find the angle between any two vectors whatsoever, regardless of orientation. So, why?  What's the use?For the cross product, given a front and up vector (that is, one pointing out your belly button and one pointing out the top of your head), you can get the right vector.  To see this, hold your arm and hand out in front of you, curl your fingers toward your head, notice that your thumb goes rightward.  From these three vectors and the position of the object in 3D space, you can translate to and from global coordinates quickly and write dow
n a 3D transformation matrix that does this for you on demand.  This is how the Libaudioverse listener works, as well as OpenAL, OpenGL, DirectX, sound cones, all sorts of stuff. From three points on a triangle listed in clockwise or counterclockwise order, the cross product gives you normals to the triangle.  The normal is used for lighting, but also to define the plane

Re: Where do you get your music?

@Figment, if I had just wanted a phone, I'd probably have stuck with the nockier I had in 2012. It had no features at all and was at the same time %100 inaccessible, and yet completely accessible, because while it had no speech whatsoever, it was just a phone and did nothing else (even the answer phone was provided by my mobile provider not a function of the phone itself). Obviously it depends upon the person, but for me I was mainly interested in the Iphone as more than a phone. I got the Iphone rather than the Ipad because it seemed silly to miss out on a talking phone if I was getting the rest, but the phone, including texting and e-mail  was only part of it.Even if your not at all interested in games on Ios though there are lots of very useful access related aps. One for example I use a lot is blind square, which tells you the locations and descriptions of objects around you. There are also several volunteer services where you point your phone at an obj
ect and a person on the other end will identify it for you. There is a barcode reader that will scan and automatically identify common household products (will it will in the states apparently it doesn't work on none Us stuff), etc. then there are basic things like Siri, for example when planning my upcoming trip to america I needed an instant currency convertion to see how much my traveller's checks would be so just asked siri to convert the amount. In fairness Android does have a similar thing to siri, though whether it works the same way and is as useful I'm not sure of.This isn't to say "don't use android!" just to point out that there are lots of bennifits to Ios that for me at least make it worth it despite the cruddiness of it's media intigration. As to Ios 9, personally with each Ios version I've always wated a good few version upgrades before I bother installing the new os. I did with 7 and 8 and I inte
nd to with 9. That way software gets updated, bugs get squashed, and over all performance gets faster. I recall terrible complaints about Ios 8 slowdown originally, which sinse got fixed, indeed I get the strong impression Apple is very quick to rush out Os updates and then have to fill in the cracks later, though fortunately at least with 7 and 8 they've done this, so I don't see why it'll be different with 9.

Re: Where do you get your music?

Dark,For me, the number of games there are doesn't mean any thing, to me, my phone is a communication and information device, not an entertainment device.I said I would look at Android, not that I would switch. I may not care for iOS and Apple's controlling nature, but I care more about accessibility. My first two smart phones were Android phones, the first was made by Motorola and was a fabulous phone, of course back then I could still see so accessibility wasn't an issue. My second phone was made by LG, I didn't like it very much. Where my first phone just looked like a mass storage device to my computer, the second phone required custom drivers and custom software to access it and I could never get the drivers to work, any attempt to install them crashed Windows.Plus, I started needing accessibility functions while I was using that phone. Everyone with phones made by Samsung, Motorola, etc. said that Talkback was great, but, I had
nothing but trouble with it on my LG phone. One problem was that if Talkback was active you could not answer the phone because Talkback swallowed the gesture to answer the ccall so the phone never saw it. Another problem was that to make room for their customizations, LG removed many of the labels that Talkback needed, so for a lot of controls you just got generic stuff like, button, or graphic. Some controls without labels Talkback couldn't see or had nothing to say about them so it skipped over them looking for text to read. In all, the LG phone's accessibility was pretty bad. I made the mistake of updating my iPhone to iOS 9, I find it sluggish, and buggier than iOS 8. Apple really needs to spend some serious time fixing the many bugs iOS and it's accessibility features has rather than continuing to pile on more features that just make it slower and buggier. Both sides have their pros and cons, so we'll just agree to disagree, and leave it at that
 .

I never heard of it until now.During a test run, just seeing if it would load a folder, it seemed to do fine. It took several minutes, but that's because I threw a large music folder at it.Maybe try it in a folder that only has mp3's in it, and see if you have any better luck.As for the $10 price tag, that wouldn't be so bad, but if you've emailed the site owners without any response, I would wonder if it's even being sold anymore. Considering that the program says it was copyright in 2007 when you open it, this kind of gives me the impression that it's a long-dormant project, if it hasn't been updated at all since then.

Re: Brailsoft?

I checked the file date of the executable and found it was eight years old, that plus no response from emails kind of tells me that not only is music categorizer dead, but it looks like Brailsoft is too. So without further ado, I deleted it.
