Re: Rode to rage map exchange.

I already have extracted allot of the best war audio for my own eventual projects, good idea though, it's just that I'd probably be using them for something more critical. Also, I don't know if it would be right to use it in a game either, maybe stuff from training, but real, brutal battles would be rather unfair to all of the people that died, weather they deserved it or didn't, which isn't something that I think any imperfect human has the rite to decide.  But I do know that no airstrike, artillery barrage, or close quarters shootout is selective and precise enough to totally avoid the possibility of maiming or killing noncombatants, civilian women, children, and those who are sick/wounded, disabled or elderly. So even though it's undeniably awesome to hear an A10 firing it's 20MM autocannon at such speed that the depleted uranium rounds actually break the sound barrier before the gun is even heard to fire, or to wonder at how qu
iet an M107 50 caliber sniper rifle really is when it reaches out to touch someone standing a mile and a half away, or to imagine what it would be like to rip through an entire 48 round belt of 40MM grenades with the MK19 automatic grenade launcher on the back of a Stryker AFV; you still have to face the fact that all of those stray bullets, every bit of shrapnel, flying debris, even computer guided bombs; could still utterly ruin someone else's life, weather it be an enemy soldier, who may just be a scared kid drafted against his will by his government to fight in a war he wants nothing to do with, or a young mother who is on her way out of this place, in order to become a scientist that could help to cure cancer in a first world research lab.I don't mean to ramble on about this, but it's something that I've had to figure out for my self; and while I still like to play wargames such as RTR, Swamp, and TOC, and I research the history of firearms from
the late 1800s to now so that I can help to create fictional weapons for games, I also find my self sickened and ashamed by some of the documentaries that run on the American history and discovery channels, that seem to glorify war with high def explosions and fireballs, well armored Apache helicopters destroying tanks far below with Hellfire missiles, precision? bomb strikes on highly populated apartment buildings to kill one man, and loud rock music playing over it all, while the real connotation is that people would actually be bleeding out on the street, being blown off of the tops of buildings in chunks, and burning to death inside mobile metal boxes.  It doesn't matter who is the bad guy, it's not nearly as clear cut as it is in Hollywood when your in the real world, in the dust and the smoke and the noise, while people run and scream as they try desperately to get away from the return fire of their own country's military. And to be honest, listening
to those videos only strengthened my conviction that war really is hell, and also that there is a very small difference between a rebel fighter firing his AKM into the air on full auto while screaming Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! and a group of American soldiers cheering and highfiving each other as an F16 drops a 500 pound bomb on a house full of pissed off old farmers armed with rifles and having nothing left to lose...Still, I will certainly consider making something realistic with the high quality range recordings from Sound Ideas, The Boom Library, and The BBC Library; unless someone beats me to it of course, because I think that would be cool too, too bad you can't properly mod the weapons though because they aren't very realistic them selves. Even if their awesome.I'm also writing up some documentation on how to use the map
maker, just hitting a snag because of the differences between the offline and online versions, especially the way they handle custom sounds.

Re: Genres of audio games?

The "great" thing about audio games is that when people start complaining about a genre being oversaturated, you can still count all the titles in that genre with a single base 10 digit. Well, other than MUDs and interactive fiction, but I tend to think of those as Text Games rather than Audio Games. (Random side note: when I first started making games with text and sound but no graphics, I referred to them as TAGs, for text/audio games.)(The great thing about text games is that they are not bound to any one sense. Deaf players can read with their eyes; blind players can read with their ears; deafblind players can read with an overpriced-hopefully-the-government-paid-for-it braille display. Someone needs to invent a scent-based writing system, while we're at it.)

Python and its editors.

Hi everyone! I want to know that if I installed Python 2.7 then which editors should I choose I mean for the accessibility purposes. Also I found a book "a bite of python" where the writer says that py charm and vim are  the Ides for python. So I cannot download py charm the website says your download should start automatically but nothing is happening after waiting. Also in vim I opened and cannot find the exit maybe I don't know the command in the end I want to raise the question that which variable should I edit? does the value of power shell or the others in the path value. I am using win 7 ultimate 32 bit with NVDA latest version. These questions are maybe childish but I am a nubie in programming world. I hope you will answer these questions in detail so that I can figure out what I have to do. ThanksIshan

Re: Genres of audio games?

Hi captain code! welcome to our audio games forum! There are various genres for audio games like 2 d side scroller and FPS well FPA( first person adventure like slender lost vision and for the FPS like TRTR and Shades of doom and techno shock are the finest example. for the menu based games there is an RPG with some different and cool mechanics It is entombed where you can fight and rescue other people. Mud is another genre but it is text based however some muds like alter aeon have soundpacks for Mush z cliant. Entombed is the best RPG where you can choose your own race and job and you have to find the exit of the dungeon. in the dungeon you will encounter several monsters like, goblins, orks half giant etc. this is the menu based games. If you want more information go ahead and check our data base where you find various games for various genres. ThanksIshan

Re: Does Apple even bother to test their products?

The "Do Not Disturb" feature can be controlled manually or by a schedule. I have it set so that it turns on at midnight, then turn off at 8 AM. So from 8 AM to midnight, the phone should ring for incoming calls. On the "Do Not Disturb" settings page there are some additional call filtering options. One of those options allows you to select when the ringer sounds based on who is calling. Setting it to "Everyone", the default setting, will cause the ringer to sound for all incoming calls. Setting it to "No One" will prevent the ringer from sounding no matter who is calling.

okay so that issue is fixed, but now I have an even weirder one.  The game runs perfectly fine, all of it seems to function perfectly, but the audio of the game is extremely broken.  I'm not getting sounds, just this weird and painful audio staticy/high pitched thing on certain squares.  It's hard to explain, especially for me being terrible at describing sounds, so I made a really short recording demonstrating the weirdness.https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/641 … rdness.mp3I feel like I have seen this issue before.  Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it?

Sorry they are annoying but design wise I love that they are a weakness to a very powerful tattic. You really have to change your approach when facing them (and get lucky). Congrats on the game score you are way in the lead! How many times did you die?For the next version I plan on doing something with the game score so your score reflects what class you are. For example assassin score would always end in 1, merc always in 2, cult in 3 etc... That way I and other players can see what class got that score.

I suppose now that I have the soon to be live version I will have to give the Mutant another try. Especially since I'm as as good  with a Ranger as I ever will be.On a side note, I've beaten the game twice now since the soon to be live version was available through promo code and I haven't seen a single bug that wasn't already reported. Also, the infinite Arena gives out only Core level materials.

I'll add to my notes to check the code. If it's not showing I'll post them here. Re: Does Apple even bother to test their products?

And this, is why they shouldn't, set, release dates. Because things like this happen. Don't get me wrong, I love my macbook pro, but there's somethin I gotta give google credit for, and that is not setting release dates. I tested the Android L developer prerelease, and apart from a few quirks here and there, it was more stable than your average ios beta. However, Google never had a definitive release date for android 5.0, stating instead that it would be ready sometime in the fall of 2014. This gave them time to actually test it. Apple is constantly putting themselves on a time crunch, to satisfy the users who will do your yearly apple picking when the season comes

I did have "Do Not Disturb" on but only on a schedule so my phone wouldn't ring while I was sleeping. In that mode setting who to ring for to "No one" makes no sense at all.The cellular carrier tech said that with the release of iOS 9, they saw that setting being set to a fariety of values. From a programmer's view, it kind of sounds like Apple just uses whatever is in memory for that setting rather than specifically setting it.Stupid, stupid, stupid,.

Re: Does Apple even bother to test their products?

I'm surprised you had DND on all this time without noticing. But if you think about it, that is a sensible default when DND is actually on and operating as intended (it is what I have mine set to, for instance), so if you upgraded from a version where this had not previously been set, it would make sense for the option to be set to "no-one". Normally you would be operating with DND off, and the real mystery is how it got on and stayed on all this time. That is unless you turned it on and forgot, of course, or really turned it on to actually avoid notifications (but not calls), which I suppose is a legitimate use of the feature. But to answer your question, as posed in the subject line, "No, they do not." Quality control has been slipping very badly, although I think it's Mac OS that has taken the brunt of it, at least for now. You really only notice the iOS bugs because that platform is still under much more active development. It's rather
sad to see this; Polish was always a strength of Apple's stuff in the past, because that was an important selling point of the experience, but they're pretty clearly getting desperate to stick to unreasonable release cycles at the expense of their former level of refinement now. I'm fairly sure the enthusiasts aren't the only people to notice, either. Mind you though, when the only competition many newbies to the platforms know are Android and Windows, and Apple is doing their best to get newbies on board, it's probably a benchmark they think they can afford to lose ground on.

OK. I've got a first draft primitive interface written. You can try it here:http://tsatsatzu.elasticbeanstalk.com/sl/simple.jspThe toggle between text-to-be-read and text-to-be-spoke isn't working. But it's stuck in "screen reader" mode. So that's fine for now. Please give it a go and let me know if it plays well with screen readers. If so I'll tidy it up a bit. The typed-text recognition isn't as forgiving as the audio recognition on the Echo. It needs a logout button. Etc. I just want to make sure I've solved the basic problem before polishing the apple.

Is the forum server having problems?

Is the server the forum run on having some kind of problem?Several times today I've gotten error messages while trying to access the forums. So far I've gotten a couple of "Service not available" messages as well as a message about the server generating some error code and that the admins have been notified and some other seemingly random errors. I've also noticed that at times the forums are really sluggish. Is anyone else seeing these?

Does Apple even bother to test their products?

For several months, I had a problem with my cellular carrier in that my phone wouldn't ring or show a missed call for most of my incoming calls. Usually the only way I was aware that someone called me was when their voice mail message appeared. Finally, today, one of the techs at the cellular carrier walked me to a setting under "Do Not Disturb" that was added in iOS 9 that wasn't set properly by the iOS 9 installer. It had my phone set tso that it rang for "No one". Setting it to ring for "Every one" solved the problem. All I can say is:

That's why I avoid software that requires online activation as much as possible. For most games, that means buying a physical box with discs inside. Most of those use a discs check instead of online activation. So I'm not dependant on some server being accessible to play my games. That's why I never got into Steam and objected to that similar service I've seen around here that was trying to cater to audio games. It meant that I missed out on a lot of games, unless I was willing to grab a cracked copy, which I wasn't, that's in the list of top ten ways malware gets distributed, better to just skip it.

Re: Experiences with guide dogs

I highly encourage doing a google search for "Zone BBS guide dog." I'm sure lots of people will respond on here, but the boards on the zone already have a ton of information for you to look through.German shepherds are amazing dogs, but they do require a lot of walking, attention, and care. Fidelco likes you to walk at least two miles every day, because a Shep will need that kind of energy burn.I wouldn't say that an off harness dog is *just* a dog. for example, I wouldn't let my dog eat chicken bones or table scraps off harness. 1, it will teach her bad habits about snatching human food. 2, it would probably make her sick, and what if we have to go somewhere the next day? Trust me, you don't want a sick dog with you in public. In harness and out, you still have to remember that this dog is more than a pet. It goes with you in public. It has to behave. So I told my co-worker to knock it off when she was trying to teach my dog to ju
mp. I got very annoyed with her when she was trying to feed my dog food from her own mouth. Those things, while funny for a normal pet, aren't cute or funny for a guide dog to do.When we go visiting, I have to consider whether or not to let Fran off leash. Do we have to go anywhere the next day? If she eats grass, she'll puke. Will people guard their food? She's good about staying away from tables, but will people keep things up off her level?Schools also highly discourage taking your pup to the dog park. Your guide dog being attacked by a random dog could cause them traumatic stress issues which would cause them to retire. So when I want Fran to play off leash, I go with my co-worker and her two dogs. Fran has met them and we know they're fine playing together. We go to a separate fensed-off area of the dog park for shy dogs. This area is mostly empty, and we stay near the dogs at all times. But all this isn't to say that your dog has to
be a slave. Fran has tons of bones, squeakers, and ropes which are durable enough so she doesn't eat tiny bits off them. She has a soft crate to sleep in and a fuzzy blanket she likes us to get out for her at night so she can nap by the couch after her dinner. She likes to run through the house chasing her wubba toy. At work, she sleeps in her pet bed and chews her antler. Having a guide dog is an amazing experience that teaches you a lot about being a parent, LOL.

Well you're right that people can turn _javascript_ off, but these days most people don't.  Without getting too deep into the technical stuff, _javascript_ is what makes dynamic web pages and web apps possible.  If a page's content changes without the entire page reloading, more often than not they used _javascript_ to do it.  And on the off-chance someone has _javascript_ turned off, you can use the tag to show a message letting people know they need to turn it on to play the game.Oh, and one other thing, in case you didn't know: _javascript_ is not the same thing as Java.  Java is a general-purpose programming language, used for a lot of different stuff (the biggest one being Android apps).  It's still used on the web, but I don't recommend it.  _javascript_ on the other hand is the main language of the web.  No matter what else is used (PHP, Java etc. or none in your case) a web page can't do much

Hi Defender,I had this idea in mind. There are many videos on YouTube and  other sites regarding the Syrian and Iraqi civil wars. You could extract sounds from them as ambiances and create new, interesting maps. I would have to play around with YouTube mp3 downloaders to do so, but that kind of project is still an interesting idea. The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to actually use the map maker; it is confusing as hell to use. However, more maps are always welcomed.

Re: MacBook Pro (Mid 2014) For Sale in the UK

1. Good question, and I don't think there is, except by the cursor method. You'll have to switch to group mode if you want to avoid examining everything in detail by default, but that applies to all objects, not just links. See Web category in VoiceOver Utility.2. Hmm. Do you have cursor tracking on (VO-Shift-F3)? In VO Utility under Navigation, make sure insertion point, VO cursor and the keyboard focus are all tracking each other. You might also benefit from interacting with the text field prior to moving in it, so VO moves with the caret while you navigate without the VO keys (I'd actually consider this last a bug).

Re: FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil

2016-02-19 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : Sebby via Audiogames-reflector

Re: FYI: DRM is Evil. Very, Very, Very Evil

There is no problem with "Intellectual property" owners protecting it. I merely insist that it not punish the rightful owner of the product bearing it. DRM is incompatible with that. Best case, ask your consumers to cooperate with you in protecting your work. If there's a cost to the consumer--for instance, if the consumer needs to be always online, or needs to get permission to reset the activation count, or whatever, and that cost places the burden of proving innocence on said consumer, instead of guilt on the pirate of the IP, solely for the benefit of the person who sold it to you, then it's unjust. Now, if you don't mind the DRM, and it doesn't hurt you, and if the net effect is that the content is protected from would-be pirates, then great! But if ever there should exist the possibility that this no longer be the case, for example you run out of activations in the middle of the night, your Internet connection goes down for a while, or the
business goes bust, or whatever, then the burden should fall to the content owner, and not the consumer. It is the former's problem to solve and not the latter. Certainly the former promises that the latter should be able to use what they paid for; if they did not, then there should be no sale, and the DRM purveyor should simply tell the consumer up-front that their product may at any time not function as advertised because of the protection measures it incorporates. Perhaps change from "Sale" to "Rent" since that is after all a more accurate description, with reduced prices to match.Let's have another silly, but apt, analogy. Shops are often the victim of casual theft. We solve that problem by finding and punishing the thieves, because they break the law. We don't tag and track every shop-goer with portable cameras that follow the purchaser of goods to their homes and observe them using those products rather than selling them on at a profi
t, just in case it turns out one of them is making money from theft. Shops soak up more in theft than software houses lose to piracy, and theft actually results in lost revenue, where piracy might not even make a dent in projected sales targets because the creator has long since recouped all of the costs and are now taking in pure profit from distribution. So yeah, I really don't mind compensating people for their work. I absolutely mind shouldering their problems. They are not mine to solve, and I suffer by participating in a scheme which vainly attempts to solve those problems for them, at my expense, for no good reason. I am not compensated for that inconvenience, and once they have my money they have no real incentive to support me when the cost-benefit does not align in their favour, no matter the clear ethical impropriety in separating me from my money. Indeed, the closest I've ever got to satisfactory DRM is with software that gets regular upgrades for a reaso
nable number of computers that is not arbitrary but is purely for the benefit of the developer to know which keys are being pirated; in that case the upgrades pay for continual availability to the DRM servers, but you've still got the issues of malice, bankruptcy, etc. and now you're not really selling software, but a subscription. I could probably live with that if it were made clear up-front and the prices made sense.JMO, of course.

just hit him once with the best weapon you have, and then quickly run away, because he'll start shooting this huge gun he has like a maniac. Wait till he's done and then hit him again. Do that untill he dies.

Oh you could do that in _javascript_ as well? I didn't actually know that since I thought it was possible for people to turn _javascript_ off completely, and also I didn't know you could store data on a machine with it. That's real, real nice to know.

Re: looking into a laptop

Good choice I'd say any dell model should work for you, though the new small XPS's are really nice. If you're buying a laptop though, I'd suggest getting a more expensive one that is future proof where specs are concerned. That way, you can stick with the same one for 3 or more years without having to upgrade, regardless of what new processor intensive features arive with future windows updates etc.

You know, when I posted about this, my back button started working again. Might it have something to do with that whole "get windows 10" icon that keeps popping up? When I got rid of that, I started getting a good deal of jaws cursor accessibility back in a whole bunch of applications

OK, found two links bound for New Zealand (mega.co.nz). Requires Chrome or Flash for download. Hope you can handle that. For Windows (1.71).For Mac (0.09).The Windows version is probably the superior because it performs batch conversions. But as I explained above, it's no hardship to a Mac user with skill at the command line either; if you need help, feel free to follow up.

Re: a problem with IOS 9 voice over

Hi,By the way, I have a similar problem. I use the default keyboard + samantha default, though the default voice is Alex. I have set the typing feedback to words, since I feel good with it, but, sometimes, when typing on certain apps quickly, like on facebook or messenger, some letters are not pronounced. For example, if you type a word like "Regular", the first two letters (R+E) are spelled while the letter G, in this case is not. Should I set Samantha to default voice, or should I use a high quality one to fix this?Any help is appreciated.Cheers!
