I am so, so, so!!! happy that a game like this exists, where you can play it on a Chromebook.By  default its set to "Aria," though in the menu you can change it to using "Web TTS," at least if you are using the Chromevox screen reader.

Orco, firstly, as problematic as the keyhook is, it's been a longstanding Jaws issue, and Jaws has been notorious for intercepting keystrokes, partly because it uses loads of custom display drivers as opposed to NVDA which takes advantage of a lot of the built-in frameworks such as msaa, ui automation, etc. So with arrow keys being intercepted, any game, particularly those that used direct input which a lot did, would not run properly if jaws was loaded. Even if you managed to get the keys to respond, they would be slow to respond, and you wouldn't be able to hold them down. Damn near every game manual would say that it is crucial to unload your screenreader. It got to the point where I even wrote a custom launcher in bgt to launch a few of my most used games, but NVDA killed the need for that as that doesn't intercept keystrokes.

Since it didn't work with my nvda nor even windows' sapi, though it's running fine and I could still play, but I'm like a deaf man at a wedding procession, since there's no screen reading. I have had it at least twice. today being the latest time.Basically what happens is her gift timer goes haywire. i knew I needed about an hour or so to get her gift. Came back 2 hours later and it was saying over 22 hours before next gift. yet her gift amount percentage had not risen nor had I even tried to tap  on the gift button. then about 3 hours later I went back and the gift button was available. so I did end up getting my gift in the end. just very weird.Other than that and a few places where it still reads numbers as digits instead of whole numbers Ok. now I am quite pleased with this game.back to selling 600k lumber. woo hoo.shermanator

Obvious answer: use IPv6. That is the only viable long-term solution. Your applications all need to support it, and sadly many audio games don't (which is terrible).You can, as suggested, start up a VPS and forward traffic through it. Or you can connect to a VPN service that offers public IPv4 addresses to clients (there are a few of those). Or you can negotiate with the players on your game to join a social VPN that somebody has set up with something like SoftEther or OpenVPN.But generally, unless you use IPv6, you can expect pain. I pity you, you poor creature.

I'm more or less with Turtlepower all the way. There are some things which are probably better read in braille when possible. Math and science and anything involving maps/diagrams are the obvious cases, but some literature does formatting tricks which are hard to represent in audio. For example, Far Tortuga does this thing where, whenever a character leaves the story, there are words and names positioned in unusual ways. And then there are stories that make use of anagrams (although contractions make those a bit harder). And let's not forget poetry in the shape of its motif. Oh, and spelling, of course.Oh, and I like pictures, apparently, so long as they're comprehensible and not overly complex. A 4:3 or 16:9 braille display really should have existed by now. Steam-punk braille plz.

attention players, here is a tip for attaching gear that is a bit useful. after a match is done, and the announcer states who won the match, gear drops, and yes it makes a distinct sound. after hearing the sound, you can attach gear quickly from this screen. what you do is hit triangle on the gear. if done correctly you will hear another distinct sound letting you know it attached. if your level is to low for that gear piece, or if the gear that dropped is not for the character that you currently were using, the gear will not attach. so when you press triangle you will hear no sound. if several pieces of gear dropped for example 3, you will be able to move up and down the gear list. luckily this small minu does not wrap, so when you get to the bottom, you wont be able to go down anymore. you can attach more than one piece of gear in this menu, as you go up and down, try and hit triangle on each piece of gear and see what attaches. unfortunately we don't know exactly what we a
 re putting on and the stats, but its a little something that should make fights easier when fighting against higher level chars in multi verse

it should work with nvda... or at least it does over hereI just have a couple commentsfirst, was it really intended to have to travel so far to reach the edge of the map? especially once I've gotten to level 9 and 10, there were so many captures I couldn't do anything about it became a question of which bullet I was eventually going to be hit by, loland is it just me who's having trouble telling when there's a ship that's basically right on top of me, but so far above the pitch modification makes it very hard to hear? and you can still hear it, but with your own ship's background it's kinda hard, at least for meI've also been having a bit of trouble actually catching the humanoids after destroying the ships they were in, sometimes I can do it but others it just fails, horribly and I'm not actually sure if they're falling faster than I'm going down, or if I'm just flying under them and I'm actu
 ally going way faster than I have tobut over all I like it, it's a neat concept

I have not seen sapi5 eloquence crash me. What might be causing it is permission errors of where it's trying to put the files. It tries to put things in some directories under either windows or system32, both of which are protected. If I remember correctly I had to take ownership of the directory to actually get it to work. I haven't tried it since I installed it just recently after full reinstall, but I'll check and get back to you on the permission thing. The installer did yell at me the first time it tried to install it though and got that error.Edit: yep, it works just fine here. Check under C:\Windows\speech and look for an eloq folder. If it isn't there, you have permission errors and should take ownership of C:\Windows\Speech and add yourself a full access permission before installing it. Hope this helps.

Lol. It's called sarcasm. 2d12 refers to rolling to 12 sided dice. In dungeons and dragons, you use many differently sided dice, most common being a d20. There are even d100s, though they're not too terribly common from what I recall.

I just got it working. All I needed to do was close Webroot, install the game, and reopen Webroot and tell it to monitor the file. Too bad it's limited to only one track, but at least you can race 5 or 10 laps and have difficulty levels. It's also good for playing around with speed and practicing mouse use.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get past all the dark matter stuff. I think I'm supposed to find something in one room and go to another room to unlock another door? Because there is a door that is  locked, and I can't seem to go any farther. But apparently you have to be very careful in these rooms because you die very easily.

instructions for accessing the guild. first off the guild name is cane slayers. it is a private guild, and it will mainly have VI gamers in it. to access guilds, when on the title screen, go down 5times and press x.this is the guild menu. it has 3 options. A really easy fresh meal for one that tastes amazing. Get a medium size potato and a carrot and wash them. Chop them up any old way. Chop up half an onion and a bit of cabbage. Put them all in a big saucepan with a handful of frozen peas. Add some water til the vegetables are just about covered. Place on the hob, cover with a lid  and bring to the boil. Add one or two beef stock cubes, salt and pepper, stir well. Turn the heat down to as low as it can go and simmer for two hours stirring every 20 minutes or so. Tip it into a big bowl and scoff with a spoon and a piece of buttered bread. Awesome.

The Medalion of Nova is in your profile, actually. It's a reward, but it by itself doesn't actually do anything except prove that you did that quest. Essence of Undeath can be found too, but they aren't an actual item in and of themselves. They're a form of currency which you can use in an area within the graveyard called the mausoleum. You can trade essences of undeath for gear. I've already pointed out to them that they need to make this a bit clearer.Regarding the tile text, or story tiles as I call them? I completely, 100% agree with you. I've always hated them, and I always will. Were it up to me, they'd all have been gone years ago. It will get a bit less silly as you climb in levels, generally, but you'll probably find at least a few examples in almost every area. When you reach either the Southern Grasslands or Lower Sewers (not the regular sewers, but an area beyond a boss at level 65), you may see fewer of them. I wrote many
  (though not all) of the tiles for those two zones - both were, in fact, sort of my pet projects when I was staff there a decade ago - and it shows. But yeah, with you all the way on story tiles. They're stupid and pointless and I'd rather just have descriptions of the area, even if they're not terribly interesting.If you had chosen differently in that quest, you would have gotten a Helm of Ill Intentions instead. Slightly different stats.

Personally, I think reading is reading no matter how it's done. That said, I think that audio and Braille serve different purposes, but even then, the lines between how beneficial those different purposes are for each individual can get blurred pretty quickly.Let me try to elaborate on this a bit, because I find this to be a fascinating question.If one is blind from birth, or otherwise unable to read print by the time they should start reading, I am a firm believer that they should be taught Braille. It's essential that spelling, sentence structure, and so on is conveyed to you in a format that is tactile, and is as close to what the sighted get to print as possible. There are certain things that you just can't learn by using audio alone. And, if that's all you've ever known, things can get messy pretty quickly.The other side of this is that when we watch a movie, technically we're only listening to it, whether it's described
  or not. Yet most of us find it insulting when sighted people try to tell us that we listened to said movie or TV show. So of course, even if you listen to an audio book, I feel like you're still reading it, because even a sighted person might listen to a book on their way to work, or when their hands/eyes are otherwise occupied. I bet they wouldn't like it if they were told they were listening to their book, though.So it all falls under the same umbrella of terminology, and whatever works best for someone at any given point in time is still their way of reading.

I know about using the down arrow to change weapons, but when I press it there's no accompanying sound of weapons being switched, maybe there isn't one, so I have no idea if I switched weapons or not, but I'd guess not because I end up running away.For Grizzly Gulch, then I must not be a very good game player because I always loose money at the saloon games. I'd rather not cheat and use that key, but if I can't find another way...That mouse aiming in Swamp sounds cool, but besides the zombies, I'm not much for online games. I prefer single player games, or it the game requires an opponent, games where the computer is the opponent.

So I've managed to pinpoint the problem. Maybe it was an obvious solution, but at least I got it fixed now.The trick seems to be that you need to change the compatibility mode for these installers. So if you tell them that they should be running in compatibility mode for Windows 7, they run fine. I have no idea why this has suddenly become an issue, but a friend of mine has assured me that he's seen this behavior with certain installers, even before the creator's update was released. Why some people seem to have this issue and some don't is a mystery to me, but at least now I can play any audio game I want, as well as use all the Sappi voices I've grown accustomed to.

@Draco the moral of the story is, don't buy cheap stuff from Asda . when I said "instant stuff" I didn't mean necessarily those microwave meals that are say some supposed roast meat, vedge potatoes etc, I mean those that are things like risotto, pasta etc, stuff you wouldn't make yourself, though you are correct you need to get from the right place. Generally these days what we mostly use are things that can be chucked in the oven, eg, joints of beaf, chicken kieves, fish fillets in crumb chicken  wrapped in bacon etc. Indeed, if you want a quick meal that is great that's an easy one, just buy a chicken breast, get two slices of bacon, wrap  breast up like a parcel and throw in oven for about 25 minutes on 100. @Drak, what the heck are those various devices? I have no idea what a new wave oven or those things 
 are, perhaps some more information might help here.

@Orco, Fair enough on the zombies thing there are lots of them around and they do tend to get rather over used a bit too much in fiction, films etc, though I will say I do very much like swamp as a game, particularly since it uses full mouse aiming and movement in an audiogame which is always cool. for chillingham you switch weapons with the down arrow key once you have extra weapons, you can also get help in the game with the f5 key which should theoretically tell you about different keys etcIn Grizzly gulch basically you get money by playing the saloon games, there is also a little cheat key if you want to get more money, and once you have the gun you'll find other ways. @Caio: I'm happy to. The problem is Dropbox started changing their links to have their ?dl=0 at the end of them (in what's called the querystring). They wanted to instead of giving people a direct usable link, take people to a page on Dropbox, get you to sign in, or preferably up, blah blah blah. Which makes life more difficult for us as you can imagine. Not a problem for anyone using an alternative hosting service, but Dropbox is by far the most popular. I put in a fix months ago to allow TB to handle query strings, but it's not been released yet. I'm hoping to tie off a release soon, so it'll be out then and I can then start updating the dev maps list. @roelvdwal: I've not observed that. EDIT: Meh, looks like the rest of my message was cut off. In short, try copying your TB folder and logging in once from each client if you want to play yourself to test this.

Been playing off and on for the last couple days, and something that keeps bothering me is the goofiness of the descriptions. I understand it might be boring to describe 200 something rooms, but that's no reason why you should be having my character do completely random things or not somehow integrating these random things into the game play. This is exacerbated by the fact that the builder seems to create in a specific direction, and expects the player to walk in that direction, so that if you start walking backwards through the area the descriptions are even more garbled.I'm not asking for beautifully written 7-liners in each and every room, but I wish it could at least stick to the basic no god-modding, actual describing rules. At least don't make my character do stupid things without my consent, like standing in front of a suit of armor and whispering into its visorOK maybe that one was actually funny, but still.Also there are so
 me items the game says I find after a battle, but that I don't actually see in my inventory. The medallion of nova is one, and the death essences in the mausoleum are another.

I understand it might be boring to describe 200 something rooms, but that's no reason why you should be having my character do completely random things or not somehow integrating these random things into the game play. This is exacerbated by the fact that the builder seems to create in a specific direction, and expects the player to walk in that direction, so that if you start walking backwards through the area the descriptions are even more garbled.I'm not asking for beautifully written 7-liners in each and every room, but I wish it could at least stick to the basic no god-modding, actual describing rules. At least don't make my character do stupid things without my consent, like standing in front of a suit of armor and whispering into its visorOK maybe that one was actually funny, but still.

@Caio: I'm happy to. The problem is Dropbox started changing their links to have their ?dl=0 at the end of them (in what's called the querystring). They wanted to instead of giving people a direct usable link, take people to a page on Dropbox, get you to sign in, or preferably up, blah blah blah. Which makes life more difficult for us as you can imagine. Not a problem for anyone using an alternative hosting service, but Dropbox is by far the most popular. I put in a fix months ago to allow TB to handle query strings, but it's not been released yet. I'm hoping to tie off a release soon, so it'll be out then and I can then start updating the dev maps list. @roelvdwal: I've not observed that.

Hi all, its Bill LoserBooser haha. So I have a thought and maybe some will agree or not. But how about instead of capping things in the game, how about Sam letting us keep everything we collect until we actually die like in Swamp? Now maybe this might create it's own set of problems I am not thinking about but I think the good thing about this idea is that it gives everyone a chance to get high stats. And lets say two or three team players decided to come after one bigger player they should have mo problem taking him dow since shields really aren't that hard to take out. Once your shields are gone you are in trouble unless you can get away. Now this might still put 5 health players against 10 health players, but it would be way more of a fair fight than starting with 1000. Also this would allow for lower players to buy more stuff with bit coins and collect certain items like say 50 mass bombs if they wanted to. Or pipe bombs. Or item grabbers. Lets say this perso
 n went up againsta  player with 10 health and had 50 mass bombs to use or pipe bombs to use against that player. That player isn't going to know what to expect. And even though there health may be higher, they could still lose because of the lower players stratigy. I think this would give the game a bit more of a stratigy to it and maybe take away some of the other complaints. This is just a thought and maybe not a well thought out one but still a thought none the less lol. Any ideas of this?

Five, I understand why you would do that, not that it did you any good other than making you feel good. Anyway, I fired off an email Friday and have not got a reply yet. I am trying to not rock the boat as it were seeing that I really do not want to lose the license I already have of jaws. If the fact that my grandfather passing on causes them to want to take the license away, I do not want to give them the serial number to latch on too. So I really want to know if I can move it into my name before I give them the info that they need to make the switch. This, of course, meant that I did not supply some info in the email like the serial number. I did include my name though. I am, in short, trying to take this one step at a time. I figure that a yes or a no on the ability to move it should be good enough for me to pass on what I need to pass on to for them to make it happen.

When is a book not a book? or not

I am one of those that see braille as very important seeing that I cannot see a really a better way to gain access to what things look like on the printed page as it were. Plus I do make use of the braille numbers and the like in some of those buildings that have them. On the other hand, I get a lot of books from bard. So, here is  the questions I have. When is a book a book? When is reading not reading? Let’s see if I cannot put it in other terms. When is it reading and when is it listening? How is reading defined? What senses do you not use while reading? Ok, that last question is a little odd. Think of it this way, there is a difference in braille and print... In short, define reading and let’s see where this topic goes. The book I just read was the cause of me bringing this topic up. Look up the untold history of the talking book on bard and you will see why it brought this topic to mind.

This is an early release intended to demo the new audio engine. I need to do a lot more work in other parts of the game but I wanted feedback. The controls are slightly different. To drop down a bookmark, press shift. Press shift near a bookmark and the bookmark menu opens. You can either rename the bookmark or delete it. The rename screen is super basic right now. You can open the bookmark list with E. Both the exit locator and bookmark list allow you to create an audio path from your current position to the desired position. Press z to create one and c to destroy all paths. The path is a sound that will move in the direction towards the destination. And that is why, as much as I'd love to ditch the Themedia DRM, I will keep using the protected version. So far, fingers crossed, it hasn't crashed or done anything unhealthy to my system.In fact, besides the DRM, the only bad thing I can say about it is the time it takes the DRM to validate my license. But even that isn't all that big an issue because the only programs it affects are games.Everything else is either self voiced, or uses JAWS which is quite responsive.

Is there a pre-flight flow for default aircrafts? They said they usually don't make flows for aircrafts, you have to make them yourself. Well, at least for the default ones, since no one actually uses the FSX default aircrafts anymore besides us, for good reason. I want to eventually start using the Aerosoft's, PMDGs, etc, but programming the FMC is gonna be a chore.

Waste land monsters helps some, but they are really not worth your time at the higher levels. I am over level 750, and I have a battle sute. So, to say that they are easy would be an understatement when I can take them down with one shot from my sute's weapon. Add the armor of a battle sute, you can see why waste land monsters are not really worth my time. For those who are suching for debris, I would suggest you to do a mission though. Now only do you get the credit of making things go boom, but you can also make use of the debris from that sector. I personly find that the mission in room 3A of Mission HQ gives me enough debris per mission to be worth my time and you can get the cargo barrels too.

Don't get me wrong, Swamp is probably a good game as far as it goes, but.Don't even get me started, I am so sick and tired of the zombie craze that I won't consider any games based on them.As for Chillingham and Grizzly Gulch, in Chillingham I know what I need to do, which is defeat the creatures at the ends of the road outside the town. And I know mostly how to do it. But I think I need to change weapons during the battle and suspect I'm either doing something wrong or it isn't working.And in Grizzly Gulch, I know I need more money so I can buy a gun but can't seem to win in the saloon and am not sure borrowing from the bank is the answer.But those are for other threads. I think this thread has long ago served it's purpose.

Well there are walkthrus fo grizly gulch, chillingham and time adventures on the forum if you want to look. For first person games, I'd suggest giving things a try, as we have several audio fps games and if you got on with blindside you'd probably be okay with shades of doom. Swamp is imho harder, though does have the advantage of being online multiplayer cooperative.As for interactive fiction, I don't know what you mean by "browser based"  while there are a lot of browser based rpgs and gamebooks, i.e stuff where you progress by clicking links to make choices, if your looking for the parser style "get box from table, open door with key" type of interactive fiction there is a huge hobbyist community out there producing it and several interpreter programs that can run the game files. Check out the interactive fiction archive and The if
  wiki  for details, information and lots and lots and lots! of games, indeed on this site we only list the interpreters such as winglulks, win frotz and filfre since if we listed all available interactive  games we'd have web pages into the thousands!for some suggestions on getting started, Dreamhold by Andrew plotkin is both a great introduction to if generally and to the community of if authors in particular. If your looking for something lighter in rpg terms, browser based games might be your thing, or perhaps muds, which are like interactive fiction games but real time, indeed if you enjoy parser if and puzzles you should definitely check out frandom, though of course for muds you'll need a mud client like vipmud to play. All in all there is a lot out there to try out and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Actually I found something called Time Adventures in the audio games archive that I'm playing with now.I'm also playing with Chillingham and Grizzly Gulch that I found ISO images for some time back, but am currently stuck in both, so I've set them aside until inspiration gives me some ideas on how to continue.Before I lost my vision, first person shooters like Doom and Half Life were my favorite types of games to play, but with a bit of tinnitus in my right ear, I've been reluctant to try any of the audio versions like Shades of Doom. On the other hand, I had very little trouble with Blindside. So maybe I'll give it a try.My other all time favorite games are interactive fictions, especially like the old Infocomm games, which I have all of as stand alone executables rather than the browser based versions that are around today.I have played the trial version of Entombed, it's a good game but RPGs aren't my thing unless t

Those are derived from games that are on the list of games.Jim Kitchen developed Golf, so Kitchen Golfer was created.Tank Compadre I think came from the GMA Tank Commander game.
