To pick up one of the items which is used as a weapon, you just need to move the analog stick. Then the fight starts, where you can fight back. If you don't pick up a weapon, the fight will start where you get hit to death.

[[wow]]. this has the potential to be scary. have you checked some mainstream older games like Super Metroid, or the more modern suvival ones like outlast? Some levels would be perfect for that here, it gives the game more dynamics in playing. I would really like to find an audio game that makes me shake uncontrollably from terror and those that I just mentioned do that fine because from the game play to the stress and anxiety and the music and the environment and everything in between they are really nicely crafted. So far the so called horror ones, even comercial audio games of the genre are quite disconcerting and leave a lot to be desired.

Do you use easy ABC to make music? Although it surprises me. I do not use ABC to make MIDI, I instead use MidiText. Its syntax resembles that of ABC, in addition with just pressing F5 you can reproduce what you have done.

You sadly can't, from the looks of it Che silently dropped support for the game, which is a real shame, but we don't know for sure if he dropped support or not, so we can't ask for keys either. Even so, the reg system is online anyway, so even if you had a key it would be of no help to you. So unfortunately there's not much we can do especially if She's not doing anything.

Hello Dino and congrats on your game!As for your first project it's cool even if it's really, really short. Here are my thoughts:First of all, I tried moving around like usual by holding the arrow keys but I realise you need to tap them instead of holding. When I realised that I tried to tap them as fast as possible and it worked even if it was unrealistic and zombies eaten me even if I couldn't hear any really close to me.

Sorry, there really haven't been any of those that are accessible. The best I can do is direct you to Alter Ego. It's free to play in a browser, but costs $4.99 if you buy it on IOS, not sure about Android or if it exists as an app there. But that game is lacking in a lot of features that a true life sim has. I would love to find an accessible one myself, but sadly they just don't seem to exist.

hi, why not try reaper's midi editing? everyone pukes at it but it really isn't too bad and the editor has really nice tricks at its sleeve. Reapers'  virtual midi keyboard is not the best, but it does allow you to change tonality or key with the arrow keys. I would also go with a smaller controller. I do have the M audio keystation mini and its much better that way for playing, for expressiveness, control, ETC. If you plan to use virtual instruments (this depends a lot on the style you use) but some of them have different ways of expressing something. Usually reading their manuals will tell you how certain midi parameter changes take effect on the sound that they produce. For drum beats there are loops, audio or midi you can get all over the internet now... so you would not necessarily hae to write them out. and at least this controller does have a drum velocity mode, which basically makes it easier to play loudly, or softly. I have done things that are audio 
 and midi based at the same time, mixing and some conversions ETC with reaper and reaper only. And trust me if you plan on writing then its better to record your ideas and transcribe them later, or if you want to go directly into writing then stick to that. I use lilypond because it outputs professional looking scores almost right out of the box in the great majority of cases. If its a backing track that I would like to play on (I wish I could sing lol) then that is in itself a whole different story. And depending on the style of music, a staff with a melody, another with the hits or breaks and a line of chord symbols above those two staves will be enough for most bands and copyright registration matters. If its classical you are writing or a very very specific, off the wall groove or arrangement then yes, everything should be notated.

I know this is a bit Off Topic. But. I'd love to see the Harry Potter games made accessible. that would be such a dream for me. I used to listen to my Uncle play it all the time. I even played the first few peaces of the 2nd game. and was able to do a lot by myself. There was a lot of awesome stereo/binoral work done which helped out very much. But, I'd love to see it gain talking menus, and much more. That is a long time to work on making something like HP accessible. But, At least it's a dream, that, could happen... maybe.

this game is just too good! I never understood or learned Japanese (having part of my family there) but I bought the translation pack just yesterday and must say that you have done an awesome job.. as a developer (Marina break was just too good to pass up) and also big thanks and cheers to the team who took the trouble to make the translation work. While I understand not all is translated, I believe a very small 3% is not but that is really not too much of a big deal, plus its a lot of time spent and *NOTHING!* is able to recover that time. I have noticed that those who expect to get all things for free or expect everything to be 100% perfect.. rarely if ever do anything for others or even themselves, which is the most depressing part. Stuck in their early years as they say. I am surprised that you charged that small, representative fee for hours of great gameplay. Music is awesome, sounds are too, the levelling up is pretty nifty and the fact that you can always go back and repla
 y levels or sometimes wander or do things outside the game as in exploration, or strategy based stuff is what packs pretty much all of the key elements of a solid gaming experience. If you release the next one, I will not take the discount. Will go full price... there is something cool about others putting value into your work and you putting value into what others do. Cheers! I wish I had the time to do a full spanish pack for it.

My friend and I just tried to play, using the IP address that was supplied, and he says that there was an error when he tried to connect. I did get a prompt from Windows Firewall the first time he tried. I allowed access, but he still says he can't connect. Unfortunately, I can't test it with something else like RTR, at least not right this second, since he's having some trouble getting that to work apparently, and no one else I know is available to test it with me. I did create a server that I've successfully connected to, though, so I guess it's not a total disaster. I just feel better about thi
 ngs when I know for sure that they work. It's possible that something is broken in Acefire, or that it requires something special that I don't know about.

do I need to press another button or just using the analog stick to complete the QTE?as for the choice if you want to kill the enemy or not, it seams that one is pretty similar like the second chapter of episode 1, in which after garet defeat the boltens and the whitehills, there is someone begging for mercy. in that part, I think there is a choice. you can either attack him by pressing a button or save him if you didn't do anything.same goes before the centinel meeting, where you have 3 choices to decide the punishment to the guy who said that he is one of the people who stole the weapons. in that part, there is a major decision to make. you can either save him by pressing the X button, send him to the wall by pressing the circle button, or take 3 fingers by pressing the square button. if you press the square button, you get another choice on who will slice him apart. you can cut him yourself or you can let roiland cut him.

I'm having fun exploring the map. I am in a thin grassy forest by a river north of the mainland. My friend jason known as kb3icc on stw gave me some compasses and I made more. I could get around ok without a compass, but having one and knowing how to make compasses really helps out a lot.

Hi again, At danny:I usually make some little jaws scripts in this case and here is what I do, (If i'm remembering correctly):[options]SleepMode=1Then save it with a .jcf extention and done. Player have to copy that script to there scripts folder, (I think it was called my settings or something like that at all programs/jaws/explore jaws).

Nick, the game contains instructions on the keyboard controls as well as instructions for playing the game. However, I didn't think of adding them to the readme as well. I'll make sure to do that. It's definitely fair that you don't want to to play it though given that it's not exactly the most polished audiogame out there, haha. I look forward to impressing you with the next iteration  Also, thanks for the explanation on sonar sound. I think that I would make it a togglable setting (that could be turned off and on) so that if it makes it easier to play, you could turn it on, and otherwise you could turn it off.

Here's a way of using the if elif else idea grryfindore mentioned just for fun while Orko works on something better. It's pretty limited in its current form, but usable til something better comes along. Don't feel obliged though as I did it just for the hell of it and it didn't take long. It uses the stringContains function to check line by line, and unfortunately that function for some reason doesn't allow for optional case sensitivity, so the search is case sensitive. Also to avoid getting stuck on the same line, I simply got the script to go to the next line straight away, so this means it skips the top line of any document. I know, not great, but I couldn't think of anything better straight away, so there it is. It's limited to three search terms, but that could easily be extended. It also turns off auto forms mode at the start, but only until you switch focus then it reverts to the default. There are two scripts: an initial input box script 
 called MultipleFind where you enter your terms, and it then splits and stores them as globals, and then runs the multiple find next script automatically for the first time. Then there's the MultipleFindNext script itself. I used ctrl shift f, and ctrl shift f3 for these. A backwards search could easily be done, but as I don't think this will ever actually be used by anyone, I didn't go mad lol. I do not want to download the game just yet.I would rather wait til the next version comes out with sonar sound meaning When a zombie is infront it will increase in pitch but if a zombie is behind me the pitch of the sonar would be lowered.also, the readme does not include instructions on how to play, nor the keyboard commands.on top of that, I would not download the game right now and just wait till the next version comes out without the lagging.I do not want to play the game and have my CPU lagging while playing.

Hi,I don't understand why HandBrake isn't browseable for you. I use it for several years now and it works quite well and it will do almost everything you want from it. You can tell it the bit size you want to apply (or specify a quality level) and it will do all the remaining stuff for you.About the video quality, that even depends on the people watching it. Usually I would recommend your wife to take a look and decide on her own which quality she likes best or which quality she thinks is definitely too low.I could give you some help if you could tell us how big the videos currently are and how long they are and how large you want them to be finally.Best Regards.Hijacker

DannyI don't mind putting JAWS to sleep or even unloading it before running a game, it only becomes a problem if the game needs a screen reader to voice parts of it such as menus and dialogs.But my problem here is that even with JAWS unloaded, the game locks up after playing the intro sound. So even if it was self voice or if I had NVDA installed and running, something is causing the game to lock up.So regardless of what slj says or thinks, NVDA is not the answer and JAWS is not the problem.

Hello Mike, i appreacide that you replied on this topic. While i certainly don't know how large the profit of ad revenue is, you can't say you make no profit out of it. It's probably not as large as mainstream games, but your player base isn't as large either. As for new games, making them isn't easy and requires time certainly true, but if you don't have as much time why do you waste it on games which are already more or less available? That little time which you have you should use on building original games. How popular is the slot machine and how interesting it is? Don't tell me that took a lot of time to create, i know enough about development to know how much time that takes.

Oh I see you sorted it out. Good one. It is a bit slow that's true. It's really just automating the process of arrowing through a document looking for stuff so if there's thousands of lines it's kind of clunky, but hey, that's the way I roll, lol.

@orko OK, I downloaded and installed the demo of jaws, and ran it with my copy. I got the following results. I first ran it with out putting jaws to sleep. Jaws was able to read the menus, but required me passing keys through to be effective at aeroing in the menus. When I enabled sleep mode jaws did the exact same thing you described. I'm gonna have to go hunt around for this, I do remember their being a way to do it outside of bgt that would not require you to put jaws to sleep but i'm gonna have to find what it was.

@stewie: I did in fact consider using libaudioverse... the problem was that I couldn't get it working when I wanted to try it out. Since I was also programming this for a college project (and thus had a deadline...) and decided that I'd rather be using a library I developed myself so that I had control over whether it worked or not. I think in the future I would be up for using it especially since it's been developed more since then, though.

Oh. It's referring to that line that turns off auto forms mode. It sounds like it's having trouble with a win 10 file path. I'm using Win7, but I wouldn't have thought that mattered. Unfortunately I don't have access to any PC with win10 in order to check it out.If I did have access to a win 10 computer, I'd first delete the  line that reads: SetJCFOption (    OPT_AUTO_FORMS_MODE, off). Then I'd try saving again and see if everything else is okay. Then I'd go about reinserting that particular function from within win 10. Do you want to try deleting that line and trying to save again, then let me know if it saved okay without that SetJCFOption line? Don't try the script yet though because if it enters a form field while running it'll lock up.

I could offer them to host their games for free. Have they asked about such alternatives? No. They have, instead, promised a number of times that they would look into making a better website and find a permanent host, but well, it goes like most other promises they have made...  Permanent host is such small a problem so if they ever hope to be a professionel company, they should have fixed that long time ago... I just don't care about the company anymore. I've simply lost the interest.

Oh, this fight is awesome, and very annoying if you don't know what's going on. I had so much trouble with this until someone told me what was going on.While they are talking, you got two choices between some items which I don't remember what's called in english, which you can use as weapons. You choose one of the items by moving the left analog stick left once, and the other item by moving it to the right. Just one quick move and release it afterwards. If you don't do that' you simply can't hit the enemy in the fight.When the fight is nearly finish, you have the choice to kill the enemy or let him survive. I don't remember what to press to choose those choices. I got so pissed at him, so I killed him, mostly by accident.I tell you, there is so much to look forward to in this game. This is just the beginning...

Thanks for the in depth responses. @Aprone, nice catch with the stepping part - I didn't notice that while testing at all. And @raygrote, you are very right. I had no prior AI programming experience, so... The zombies stay in one place until you're with a certain distance of them before they start to chase you. The reason some of you might notice some weirdness with the HRTF is that it's not HRTF. It's a weird homebrew implementation of 3D audio I made because I couldn't get any other python implementations working. I can explain in further detail if anyone wants me to, but the short version is that it uses the inverse square law to work out how much volume drop to use and inverting the phase of the audio in one ear when the source of the sound is behind the player - it's essentially the audio version of an optical illusion since it tricks the brain into thinking that the sound it's hearing is behind it. What I'm thinking based
  on you guy's responses is that I'm going to patch as many small issues affecting gameplay as possible for the next patch and then write a sequel with more features. Because of the way the 3D sound is implemented it isn't possible to reduce lag by very much if at all, so I think I'm going to need to rewrite the game in a different programming language with better 3D audio libraries.And, yeah, headphones aren't optional. Make sure you wear them!

That's a good point Aprone. My main problem is, I'm not sure how to tell if a zombie is in front of or behind me. Sometimes, zombies sound like they are sort of outside the conventional left/right stereo field, if I can put it that way, in which case I would assume it is behind. But in other cases, the zombies sound like they are more or less in a conventional left/right stereo perspective, which I would assume is in front. So far as I can tell though, the in/out perspective are reversed from where i would expect, i.e. I hear something that sounds like it's outside, so I walk forward and it seems like it's getting closer. Because the game is laggy, combined with what Aprone said about the actual movement mechanics, I think that all contributes to why the game feels so hard for me. I also don't think the zombies move at all, but given my vague understanding of the mechanics, I'm really not sure.I remember a few years back, I played a concept demo
  of a game about cats. I can't remember what it was, but it was similar to this, at least in its environment. You rescued kittens from monsters. It used HRTF for 2d sounds, so you could clearly tell if something was in front of or behind you. It felt so much more intuitive to navigate and know what was going on. I always wished that game were more challenging. I can't remember what the game was called or what it uses for hrtf, but I think Planetary escape could really benefit from mechanics similar to that game. I'll try to find a thread for the cat game later.Back to Planetary Escape: Maybe it's my obsession with arcade/endless games, but I wonder if Planetary Escape would get a lot more replay value from that kind of gameplay. You have levels, the first of which is easy to get you used to things, the second is a little harder, adding more zombies, adding obstacles, larger distance to reach the ship, etc. And it just keeps getting harder on every level un
 til you eventually dye. You could get creative with items too but you wouldn't need to; it's a horror game after all and we want to keep it simple. That, combined with a more intuitive indication of your environment, would be a game I might pay for.Just my two cents.

Dino, congratulations on releasing your first official audio game!    I think we're all glad to have a new developer.For the game, I believe it is playing the step sounds for the tile you are currently on, and then moving you.  For example, if I am on the edge of the ship and my next step will walk me outside, I hear solid footsteps instead of mud.  Hopefully I'm explaining myself properly, though I don't think I am, haha.I would guess your code is looking for the correct sound to play based on the tile you are on, but it is happening before the code runs to move you.  If you reverse these, it may be a little easier for people to picture where they are in the environment.I think I've got the map worked out now.

What it does is move line by line through the entire document. So it's the equivalent of arrowing down through the whole page. It will stop at any line containing any of the search terms, so that's where the focus will be. It then says the line to let you know it's found something. I think the focus would be at the start of the line containing the result rather than in front of the result itself. Though I've only tested it briefly on these pages using usernames as search terms. As I'm sure you're aware, loops are dangerous and can run indefinitely and lock up the PC if there's no failsafe. I used the number of lines in the document/webpage as the counter to limit the repetitions. The one thing I found screwed it up was entering form fields via auto forms mode, so that's why I had it turned off at the start. There's probably a bunch of other potential pitfalls, so it's a case of use at your own risk.Getting it into jaws depend

If you want to use it globally, it would need to go in the default.jss, but if you're just using it on the web, it would be better to put it into the .jss file for whatever browser you're using. Otherwise you'll get an error message that will tell you what's wrong.To backup your jaws scripts and settings prior to making these changes  you could use the import/export feature in the utilities menu.

It probably depends on how much compressoin is applied to the video. Much like audio, there's a certain level of data compression that can be achieved before the quality begins to suffer. I don't know anything about video though, nor do I know anything about the video files you are trying to compress. But I do know that good video files tend to be huge compared to just audio. I hope someone with more expertise can chime in.

video file size reduction

hi all,I was wondering if anyone could help.I am trying to reduce the size of some mp4 files in order to fit on to a u s b memory stick.I downloaded a program called hand brake but I could not navigate it.   is there something I can do to reduce the size without screwing up the quality of the picture?I am doing them for my sighted wife.
