Re: Jenux OS, The "Next Jen!"

Hi, on the vm with no orca, try control alt o, or double press alt super s. If your screen reader doesn't come up, hit control alt shift t to bring up a terminal, and trykillall speech-dispatcher;rm -rf ~/.local/share/orcathen hit control alt o again. If that still doesn't work, typesudo systemctl stop speech-dispatcherd speechd-uptype your password, then hit control alt o. For the iso, make sure that you aren't using an already bootable disk image. If using virtualbox, after starting the vm, immediately after you hear starting, mash f12, and ocr the screen. If you hear something about boot select, hit c to force booting from the iso, hit enter to boot with accessibility. If that doesn't yield any fruit, ensure that you aren't using uefi in your vm settings, as vbox's uefi implementation is quite buggy and enforces secure boot, which you need a non-surgical pair of eyeballs to work around, adding the hash of loader.efi and the vmlinuz file to nvram, which will be cleared on the next boot.

Re: Jenux OS, The "Next Jen!"

Ran into this just now.Usually I just power off a VM and that's that. However, I ran into a strange issue. Installed Genux fine on a VM, powered it off. Fired it up after installing a few things. Get to the login screen, type my username/password, it played the logon music (which I like by the way, it's nice), thennothing. Orca had somehow removed itself or become deactivated. So, as of writing this I'm setting up a new VM, and..the iso won't boot up? ire up a new VM with the same config, 2.5 gigs of RAM, 40 gig HDD, select the virtual disk image, and boot up the VM. Nothing. Hitting enter, waiting does nothing as well.

Re: SoundRTS, a real-time strategy audio game

@拓海 sorry guy, but can you explain some more what is your dilema? I can't understand it completely. As I understand, the default behavior of unit, if a enemy is in a range of attack (archers have more than the infantry) the unit start the attack to the target. But if the target is only at sight range and not attack range, the unit do nothing.Example:If an archer attacks to a soldier at a distance of 16, if the distance of attack of the soldier is only 8, the archer isn't in attack range, so the soldier doesn't answer the attack and keep the position dying in a moment... This is the default behavior except if the unit is in defense mode. On defense mode, the unit runs when is receiving any damage.Really I can't see the problem with this. If you consider that the archers have a absolute advantage to the melee units, is probabli necessary adjust the range of archers, life of soldiers, or any other numerick value for valance; but create custom behaviors depending the type of a unit is... Well add more difficulties @soundmud a small question, is currentli implemented the "small range attack"? or only the range.minimum range attack; if a unit is a smaller distance than the setted, the attacker can't attack.like for catapult; can't attack totthe units that are nearly.

Destroying your buildings after you've started isn't ideal.I have a question about the server. Re: What is Everyone's Religious Beliefs

When I was younger, I used to say that I was an atheist. Eventually, though, I realized that I was only saying that because I hated being dragged to church by my parents. Now, I know myself to be agnostic.I don't believe that it's possible to prove or disprove, objectively and undeniably, the existence of one or more gods. Certainly not now, and probably not ever. One of the definitions of "faith" is "belief that is not based on proof", and that is a kind of belief that I'm not capable of.Even if the words of all the different holy books were given to the people by some god, directly or through a prophet, and even if the current versions are identical to the original written versions, there might have been a time when the words were passed down orally from generation to generation. In that time, the words may have been altered in the retelling, deliberately or otherwise.

Linux / Arch Linux Questions

Linux / Arch Linux Questions

Hi guys! So, I've got a few questions about Arch Linux and Linux in general and seeing there are many experienced Linux users here, decided to ask here:I wanted to learn Linux. The obvious choice for everyone is ubuntu or ubuntu-mate. But I need to learn things by putting it together myself.Although I'd probably end up using those distros for their ease of use but at this stage where I'm a total beginner in linux, The ease of use is a kind of hindrance for learning.I decided to install Arch Linux on a VM and go from there.1. Although there is Talking Arch, Is there any way to use the official ISO from the Arch Linux website?I mean is it possible to make it speak myself?2. Is it possible to get the Arch ISO and with the help of sighted assistance install it and enable some sort of screen reader later after installation? In other words, Is it possible to install and run speakup after installation?3. The screen reader that is built into Talking Arch is speakup. During installation we need to install espeakup. What is the difference between those two? Is espeakup a variant of speakup with the ESpeak TTS built into it?4. Is there any other Screen Reader that works inside the shell or whatever that's called in Arch Linux similar to speakup?Does Orca work there or it only works inside a GUI?5. Which other lightweight linux distros would you recommend that I can use to learn like the Arch Linux?I might ask other things later but that is enough for now

And also, forget about them, because they will not make them accessible, I don't think because they do not any guides or technology on doing so. They might have to edit some of the code in order to make this accessible, however. They have life cams out their for iOS.

Marvel and Disney have a long history of hit-and-miss games based on their properties, which seems to persist with the popularity of the latest Spider-man game. Square, Star Wars, etc also fit both worlds.)... I should have read the article before replying.

Yes it does require at least 1 of that card to already be in the player's deck, but you can always add one before using the NextCard script. When it comes to adding cards by type (I suspect it would randomly pick one of the cards of that type), that's something I'm open to adding.  I'll keep it in mind  next time I sit down at the code.Firefly, for now you'd have to just repeat the add command like you did in your post.  There's no way to specify a number.

Re: Reflecting on gaming in general

@KenshiraTheTrinity, post 8:Don't worry; I too can get sucked in by the multi-million dollar machine at times.  To give you a brief example, when MK began making heavy use of the "konquest" mode, which would help you unlock further characters I felt entirely cheated, because I knew there were more than likely things I wasn't going to get unless I managed to bribe someone else into playing that and any other side minigame experiences meant just for that purpose.  I know that's not entirely along the same lines, but we all have our spoiled child self which takes on various shapes, methinks.ON your bit about games and movies, it's not well developed story plots I'm against... I think a ton more could have been done even with Perfect Dark where story is concerned that wasn't.  The heavy use of humans encountering an alien race that resembles what already exists in conspiracy theories is certainly nothing new or sincerely exciting.  No, my real problem lies in some of the more gimmicky things, like telling you that you can seriously help develop a story by the choices you make, but ultimately you find out that there really wasn't really all that much open ended choice to make, especially where morality is concerned.  Then there's sandwitching important aspects of the game such as hints to beating it inside cutscenes, just to make you watch them and ensure that you don't skip them.  Don't get me wrong; if the stuff is well acted out and well produced I too will be suckered into it just because it is, but there in lies much of the issue; some companies can do it while others fall short on many areas from the actors they cast to the story being full of inconsistencies and gaping holes or lack of originality.  This is why I believe that game devs should not try to double as both game devs and film producers.@assault_freak, post 9:Guilty as charged, but there kind of was a reason why fighting games were lumped in with the rest... I wasn't sure if what you said above in post 9 was just a bias on my part or not and I had no real, concrete evidence to sustain it, so I didn't write it from that angle.  Yes, I too feel that fighting games should be in a class all their own in many respects, even with the evolution of MK and the like.  Once upon a time you either picked something like virtua fighter because it felt more realistic, or you picked MK because 15hit combos straight out of the matrix are a thing, even if they're not, and blood and bones all exploding outward and psychotic fatalities and and and...   I could keep going forever!

I think Notepad++ can be configured to quickly excecute python scripts. Another one is PythonWin which comes with Pywin32, in tests with NVDA it seemed to detect the console and script windows, but seemed a bit janky. Other than those, as others have pointed out its fairly easy to just use a simple text editor and run your scripts on the command line, like "python yourscript.py".

I don't play elite dangerous either, and the idea of grinding in it isn't particularly interesting. But the politics and drama that unfolds in those games can be as good as any sci-fi fiction or book you'll ever read, with the added bonus that it actually happened. Granted, it would be 100 times more awesome if it was accessible, but it doesn't have to be to enjoy the story. Also, you should never say never, heh. Life can be full of surprises...

Hi Joseph and the team:I've been playing A Hero's Call for quite a while now. This is truly a great game in  my  opinion, and even though I've beaten the game several times already I still go back to play again a day or two later. Do you have any plans to add any new content to the game? Some of the locations I've discovered after several playthroughs beg for their own quests (hint, vampire den)..I have a question, though. Is there such a thing as a combat speed that is too high? I started a game at level fifty or so, and faced with dragons I upped my combat speed till the whole party was at 35 percent combat speed. Problem was, no enemies or MPCs could keep up. So what would be the ideal speed to deal with dragons while still giving them a turn to fight back?

Re: Reflecting on gaming in general

Fighting games I feel should be judged by their own merits, as Nocternus seemed to lump them in with everything else. The fact that they are competetive makes them a bit of an exception to the rule, imo, and I still find fighting games to be some of the best when played alone, assuming the mechanics are solid, like SFV: Arcade Edition, Soul Calibur 6, Killer instinct and others, and not chalk full of gimics and extras that sit ontop of a semidecent fighting game *cough* NRS *cough*. Not having characters unlocked at the start is due to the e-sport nature of the game where tournament organizers don't want to have t play through the game to unlock every character before tournaments begin. Good gameplay, at least amongst fighting games, still always wins... judge if you will by those fighting games that have a tournament and playerbase long after release, as opposed to fighting games that come out, are popular for a couple of years then gone fron the scene becase their fanbases move onto the next great game to come out.

Re: Reflecting on gaming in general

That was a well thought out and written article. Personally I miss the days when buying a full priced game meant you were getting a complete package. Today its ok to release a half baked game at full price and release a patch free or otherwise later on. Yeah I can understand the benefits of habing that option but digitally stored content won't be around when the serbers no longer exist, so your physical copy of street fighter 5 you bought in 2060 isn't going to be the same one we play today, and we are already seeing the death of digital only games that aren't available anymore, like scott pilgrim vs the world. I also agree with your bit about today's gamers lacking patience as it cuts into why all the big fighters except smash ultimate has all their characters unlocked from the start. No one wants to work for them anymore. Admittedly, I've been a bit spoiled by today's quality of games as well and lack patience in other areas. I can remember playing simon's quest on the nes for hours and hours. Neber mind that I couldn't see the obsticles, or read the text or kept dyying in the same spot. I never gave up back then, but today I'd probably walk away if presented with a similar situation and no solution was apparent. As for the thing about games and movies and stories in a game, I guess I personally prefer that my games habe at least a little comprehendable backstory, unless the gameplay is good enough to stand on its own and provides a sence of progression. For example, why am I participating in a birtual basketball or fighting match? If its not against a live opponent, then what is the purpose of winning? If there is no purpose, then all you have left to fall back on is the fun factor, then when thats gone, there's no reason to go back but for nostalgia's sake.Again, good read.

Hmm, I'd use next card, but doesn't it require you to have at least one of that card in you're deck?Sometimes I'd just want absolute control over what card is drawn next.Edit: Also, can you add the option to add and remove cards based on the type? For example in the Swamp campaign, there are some starvation cards at least 1.You could set multiple comma separated types in the types line for each card, then put these types in to a add, remove, or remove all scripts like this.[add=resupply][add="supplies"]You could enclose the types in quotes or something. What do you think?

Hmm, I'd use next card, but doesn't it require you to have at least one of that card in you're deck?Sometimes I'd just want absolute control over what card is drawn next. Also, can you add the option to add and remove cards based on the type? For example in the Swamp campaign, there are some starvation cards at least 1.You could set multiple comma separated types in the types line for each card, then put these types in to a add, remove, or remove all scripts like this.[add=resupply][add="supplies"]You could enclose the types in quotes or something. What do you think?

If the auto downloader wouldn't be so good, especially with games that involve sounds and such, then an alternative could be a web site or a part of a web site, where you can download all the games if you wish or select wich you want. Or a dropbox folder for the games.

Re: Creating an audio game using Sable (video 2), by Ebon Sky Studios

Hi Everyone,As ever, thanks for all the positive comments, we’re really pleased you’ve all enjoyed the second video in the series. Below I’ll try to answer a few of the questions which have come in:-@number 51, thanks for the interest in the project and your questions, I’ll try and answer them below:-the NPC voice lines are not randomized , since most times you would want them to play in a certain order to progress story/dialog in a specific order. Your suggestion of a random option is a good one though, as I could see certain situations or specific NPC’s where randomized voice lines might work well.- yes it is possible to tie sounds to objects. There is an object called container, this is kind of like a blank object you can create yourself.  Using your dresser example, you could  select container from the object menu, it will then let you name it so you could call it dresser, then you can give it a description of a dresser, assign its radar sound and then assign dresser opening and closing sounds for when the player opens/takes stuff from it, maybe a creaking draw opening sound or something similar.-regarding packaging /compiling  games, since sable is still in its prototype stage its too early to confirm any details like that, at the moment our primary focus is on our first game Crimson Eclipse.@number 55, thanks for the interest in the project, I’ll try and answer a few of your questions below:-yes you can specify the sound which is made when you first reach an NPC, so it doesn’t have to be that coughing sound. In maps I’ve made whilst testing Sable, I’ve had NPC’s speak a pre recorded voice line when you first meet them rather than the cough. So you could use this to have them use a pre recorded voice line when you first reach them,, but then have the rest of their actual dialog spoken using TTS, like you said this way it would cut down on costs for voice lines, but still give the player an idea of what that  NPC is meant to sound like.-Regarding event triggers, yes you can select for an event trigger to fire when you interact  with an NPC, when setting an event trigger on an NPC you can also specify when it will fire, so like you suggested you could get it to fire a cut scene when you first meet the NPC, or you might for example get it to trigger a battle at the end of their dialog, or maybe something after you have completed a task for them. -currently cut scenes don’t mute the ambience on a map whilst they play, but it’s a good suggestion since I could see situations like you mentioned  where you might want the background ambience muted whilst its playing.I hope the above answers everyone’s questions,  again just a huge thanks for all the positive comments The Ebon Sky Studios Team

Keithwipf1, you've hit on a few things I was also thinking would be nice.  A custom message for the [OnlyIf] script, and also a way to display a custom message when the player chooses one of the options.  Those shouldn't be too hard to add, with the OnlyIf one being a bit harder than the other. As for forcing a specific card to be drawn, would it work to give that card a unique "Type", then use [NextCard] to ensure it is drawn next?I forget that people may have trouble with the single letter variable names, because that's how I've been doing a lot of my own code since the 90s.  Lol!  Even to this day, many of my variables will end up being just a single letter of the alphabet, and I'm so accustomed to remembering what they stand for that it's completely second-nature.  I intend to look at the code to see how much work it would be to redesign it to handle longer variable names.I was thinking about a store method while at work, and I wanted to share it just in case it inspires anyone else.  For a store, I imagined something like a shop that lets you spend some money to increase your health by 5 (so healing potions I suppose).  Normally you'd get to pick that option, gain 5 health, and then have to hope another store shows up soon.  Of the 2 options on the store card, the second one would be to just leave.  The first would charge you money, raise your health, but then add another store card to the deck.  The store card has a unique "Type", and the final script uses [NextCard=store] to ensure the store comes right back up next.  This would let the player buy as many potions as they needed to be fully healed, or to stop anywhere along the way, and then leave when they wanted.  It would work for stores selling ammo, food, or even large complex stores that have several options.  The player could buy 4 of the 7 products, if they wished, instead of needing to pick the 1 they want most and hoping another store comes along so they could buy the next.

Wow, this thing is so fun.I can now probably write a combat sim thing with this, complete with a store where you can buy things! Here are some things that would be niceLonger named variables, keeping track of what A does, what B does and what C can do is hard.Forced drawing, this script forces the player to draw a specific card weather or not they have it.Good for where you *must* have something happen at a given point.Being able to set a variable to a random value.Maybe removing options from the menu if there is at least one other option, and if these options can't be used anyway. Or allow a custom message when the [OnlyIf] script stops it from activating.Card success message, plays the text when the player chooses an option. These are ideas I just thought up, which would make things more interesting!

Re: Dynamic Deck engine with sample game, by Aprone

Hmm, some good ideas I see.For variable names, I was able to more rapidly write the variable support into the engine by going with a specific length, so that the engine can parse the scripts based on character position.  I Could rewrite it to handle names for variables, but it might be more work than it's worth.  I'll have to look at the code next time I get a chance, and see what that would involve.Comments are indeed a good idea, and I just need to figure out a good way to do it.  Actually you can already sort of do comments as long as they are on their own line.  This isn't an official comment system (since there isn't one yet), but if you just type out a message to yourself on it's own line, the game engine will just ignore it since it doesn't make any sense.  You may have noticed there aren't any errors or anything that pop up when you mess up, and that's because it is designed to ignore errors and move on, rather than crash and announce them to you (or the player).  You know what, I'm wrong... you can do comments at the end of even your script lines as long as they aren't within brackets.  It should be ignored as just garbage at the end of the script, which the engine should ignore completely.  I haven't tested any of these methods for doing comments, haha, but if I'm correctly picturing how the code would run, they should work.As for an auto downloader, I think I'll have to give that some thought.  It would seem to be pretty wasteful having it download actual compiled Exes for games if it was some sort of official system.  Perhaps it could download just the scripts (all the stuff we type into cards.txt) and feed it directly into the engine since that would be incredibly small and fast.  I'll brainstorm this a bit.Sadly there's always a chance that this could be built to host games, auto download them, and have 50 more features added... and then only like 3 people will ever make anything with it.  Haha, so there is at least that risk I have to consider before dumping too much time into it.  That isn't necessarily a reason Not to expand it though, so I will mull this around in the back of my mind while I'm out of the house for the day.At work last night it was bugging me a bit that I still have the old "When" command, even though the new "RunIf" one can do the same thing plus a whole lot more.  It's really a lot like when I had the old "good" and "bad" variables that were later replaced with a better system.  I guess it's okay to have 2 ways of accomplishing the same thing, but it's just a little nagging feeling in my brain, Haha!

To extract, first become root:sudo suThen, cd to your root mountpoint:cd /mntEnsure that the boot partition is mounted under your current directory:mountpoint bootfinally, extract the root:bsdtar -xf /path/to/rootfs.tar.gzTo see each file as it is being extracted, run it like this:bsdtar -xvf /path/to/rootfs.tar.gzOnce this is finished, do:cdumount /mnt/boot /mntUnplug your card, plug it into the pi, and apply power.

Re: Jenux OS, The "Next Jen!"

As for the difference between the kodi and arch images, the kodi image directly boots into kodi, running as a separate user. If you want to make the kodi image more general purpose, disable the kodi-standalone service with systemctl, which should give you a gettty login prompt, enable your screen reader of choice, and reboot, installing whatever packages you want beforehand. The arch linux image is specifically 64-bit armv8, so it'll need a pi3 or newer to boot successfully. While you may experience better performance, this image uses the mainline kernel, which means that the built-in sound device appears to be inoperable, requiring a sound card for audio output.

Yes someone should scan this with a couple anti virus programs on a vm to make sure it's okay...Or upload to virus total or something.

this reminds me of blind extra, an nvda addon Trojan with remote access capabilities that was banned by nvda addon project community a few years ago.feels to me that the developer is the same, as peaces of software that had been seen in the old website can be found in his new page.read about the old addon and why It was banned in the link belowhttps://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/ … ra.en.html

Some people just use religion for their own personal gain. Not everyone, just some people.  People in mid evil Europe did it. People today do it.  Out of curiosity do you, or have you in the past, carry any traditional samoan beliefs,  and have any merged with the incoming religions?

Re: Leviathan chronicles, updates and freebees?

Thanks for the info. I love Leviathan chronicles. I heard that they were working on finishing the rest of season 2, but I haven't checked their web site in some time, so I didn't know they've updated it. I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of season 2 when it comes out.Edit: I forgot to mention the fact that I also love the special edition episodes.

So I've tried this, and, well. The buttons are unlabled, and I've tried everything, holding them, tapping on them, moving back and forth onto them, and nothing. As of right now, I'd say it's pretty inaccessible, unless you figure out or tell me how to make the VO pick up the buttons

Since the installation script partitions the disk then asks to choose an image, would it be safe to remove the card from the dell after that's done, insert it into the mac, then mount the partitions through diskutil in terminal, then:bsdtar xz root.tar.gz
