Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

And it is my dying wish that cannot be fulfilled. I want my vision back because I want to experience what it's like to see the world. Though people in my surroundings told me that seing the world is a mess, it really doesn't matter. Yes I enjoy being blind. I have accessible apps. I can use gadgets. But no, there is still lacking. I need to fill that hole to complete that missing piece inside of me but it is the most impossible thing to happen. But if 1day, the heavens will grant my wish then... I'd be glad to take that wonderful opportunity.

Re: Jenux OS, The "Next Jen!"

the vm image does need updating. @Ethin and @ironcross32 have been known to trash jennux because of errors they encounter in their personal setup or personal grudges against nash. The jennux source is public and can be gotten by anyone (see earlier posts) and if jennux has that many issues, then instead of just sitting at the keyboard and telling people not to use Jennux, they should fix what ever they see fit to fix and release it and be done with it. Allot of devices have errors, and i know that is not the case with me on my mac and del e7490, but that is the case with any linux distro on many more devices then even jennux has trouble with.

Re: a game discoveries room

I'm afraid I'm a little confused as to the intent behind this idea. New releases, has always been intended for newly discovered as well as newly released games so long as they're accessible. usually, the only reason a topic about a newly discovered game should be posted in general game discussion, is when the game is sort of vaguely playable, but not accessible. If someone's talking about their personal discovery of a game we already know about, well general game discussion is for that too, since it is, mmm, general game discussion. So, I'm afraid I'm a wee bit confused as to what new niche a game discoveries room would be intended to fill.

Re: How to make music with out midi keyboard?

I'm using mml2mid just because my keyboard skills are dismal. I used to use MidiText by Aminiel (he did a topic about it 4 years ago IIRC) and it really was cool for me, since the syntax was very similar to MML. The coolest thing about it is that, depending on where the cursor was, with F5 you played the sequence from the cursor, and not from scratch doing a compilation. It is a shame, because I can no longer use it, since opening it gives me an error that the entry point cannot be found in the main executable.QWS and Reaper... Yeah, I also tried them to some extend only for fun, but I never did anything serious with them.

That's going by statistics. Troubles is, or was, between hilary and trump... that's beeing between the anvil and hammer; both choices where, let's be honest, bad. Hi. I've been doing experiment for another software. You got it right! Audacity. It is required for the training session that I attended. So my question is, how do you lower down the volume of a music track using adjustable faid? I am doing a time selection in which the music start lowering it's volume when the voiceover starts to speak. But after I added the adjustable faid it's faiding but after the time selection past, the volume of the music track is back to its original volume while the speech is ongoing. How to do it? I am trying to simulate reaper's automation.

any Roku powered OS tv will work. also Samsung, LG, amazon fire OS, and Android, should all have sccreen readers. from their you will want to look at what features the sets have and choose what you think you are going to be using it for. The price is another thing you may want to look at. i have a Sharp Roku powered tv and it has three HTMI inputs and the screen size is 42 inches.

Re: Nvda is in the windows store

There were plans for a long time to prepare a version for Microsoft store so people on Windows 10 S can use NVDA, so this now seems to be released. Important limitations to know are that this version does not support NVDA addons, does not run on the log on screen or read UAC prompts, as well as doesn't have support for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and incomplete support for Excell. All of these are technical limitations of the store apps.

Re: Reaper: Envelope Points Breaking Strangely.

Even though they display that way, they really want 0 to 1, so instead of that, just back out when you hit control shift E then use the numpad with numlock on to adjust it. 4 and 6 move it left and right along the timeline, and 2 and 8 adjust the parameter value. You can actually have this done automatically for you if you have SWS - which you should. Arm the envelope as normally done, then make a time selection. You can navigate to the start of the item with control left or right, then ctrl shift dot or greater than to go to the item's end to place the second point. These are placed with the left and right bracket keys. Once you have that, select the track, then the envelope, then hit O.What this will do is use an LFO to plot envelope points. You want it to say selected track envelope, and probably when it says the note, hit end and it will say sync off then tab and then enter a number in Hz. The offset really doesn't matter for now and the strength is how much you want it to oscillate by. If you choose saw or ramp, you should get a circle but you won't with sine, and this is provided strength is at 100. Hit OK, which you might have to use NVDA enter or shift space or something then home to go the start of the time selection then hit play.

@906Criticizing people in office is how they end up not getting re-elected.  If we didn't they'd always just get all the votes. Also he lost the popular vote by millions and only got in because of the electoral college, so any legitimacy you might give him is really only based on technicalities.  Which to be honest is even more embarrassing for him given that if the fake voters he likes to claim exists actually existed they could have made sure Clinton won the electoral college hands down just by shifting a fraction of the millions of fraudulent votes to the right states and not bothering with the rest.  So, sigh.  Here we are.  Thank you to our forefathers for not understanding the internet and thinking that lifetime appointments can't be a problem because everyone dies at 50.

I just the other day got into Reaper envelope points and there uses, and was trying them out on a pluggin called Ambio Orbit, which pans the sound a 3d circle.Anyway, I performed all the steps, up to splitting the main track and placing the split one on my new envelope only track, ready to be enveloped in 3dNess. I positioned my cursor at the beginning of the item, pressed down arrow to select the track, and pressed control l to select the rotational parameter to place. I placed an envelope point with Control Shift E, and set it to 35, this being 35.0 Degrees. For some reason, it defaults to 180 degress no matter what I put.Any ideas??

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

camlorn, i don't really think that a "Society of the blind" is really what's necessary. More a social revolution for disability in general (as in, how we approach how we think about disability). After all these are issues that intersect many disabled issues at large, although blindness is a specific presentation with unique circumstances. The problem with implants is that we organize our healthcare based around the idea of a healthy person, so much more resources is invested into it. this is actually a big reason why accessibility gets a lot less funding than expensive surgeries despite being more effective at presenting a social solution to blindness - its because we socially want people to be healthy. So by submitting to transplants we don't actually give the possibility for more lives, but actually less, by eliminating the blind way of life, along with other disabilities, instead of accommodating them. This isn't to say that these surgeries are bad by the way - but rather the way that we socially look at them is based around treating blind people, rather than giving blind people options. And that actually LIMITS options for blind people, by forcing them to live as a sighted person if they can, in this theoretical scenario.Furthermore I think a lot of people would feel uncomfortable with the idea of their bodies being modified without their will. consider the huge ethical issues surrounding intersex surgeries for example. You're talking about a full scale technological invasion of people's own bodies, which will likely be driven by some large corporation or government organization. I do not trust that one bit. Then there are the children who aren't given autonomy over their own bodies, with both disability and gender, that are forced to suffer through treatments their parents think is best for them instead of deciding for themselves. They can't even say no. This is a source of a lot of trauma in many disability and queer communities. The problem with this kind of science fiction future is that it doesn't recognize the inherent structures that drive our decisions, which leads to an eventual path towards elimination of differentiated experiences. The idea that along with a cure for blindness we bring forward a cure for sightedness ignores the social pressures involved. Consider that we could literally blind anyone we wanted permanently right now quite easily by simply removing their eyes but this option is not socially available. Why is that? Simple - because the healthy person excludes blindness.@70 - I understand your pessimism but remember that almost all of those things you listed are hard for blind people to use because of how we socially structure society based around vision. Most of those things are either tools that have crappy accessibility or tools that blind people can't use but people are expected to use. It's just that blind people have to deal with so many crappy design choices because of assumptions based around healthy people. It's worth stressing that these design choices also impact a lot of other disabled people as well, so its a process that extends across a wide group of people, not just the blind; so i feel its necessary to at least try to change, since it impacts so many people.

No, I'd be too worried about them making it worse. Not only that but the daunting task of having to relearn how to estimate distance from crappy vision to good vision. Nah, I'm good.

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

@61: yeah, I basically see refusing as leaving money on the ground. I worry about things that might come with it because I know what living in my head is like. Fixing this one thing by itself, without fixing the other things... I could probably cope, but, like, the kind where I'm not sure?@64: You know, of the three drop-routes they gave me at LCB, I mostly liked the first one and was kinda "meh" about the other two. The first one was an adventure. The second was just a long walk because apparently that weird texture sound on Alabama Ave extends a mile past Tech Drive. And the third was lame because I'd already found Lowe's before so immediately knew where I was (I heard the intercom while passing by while looking for someplace else, and went in to check the address). The first one, though, they just dropped me off in a tiny parking lot in the middle of the woods on some obscure backroad I'd never come within a mile of. The "find this address" assignment that originally led to my finding Lowe's, though, does demonstrate a #blindproblem, though. I found the right block, and the right street, but there was a shared parking lot with the driveway on a completely different road. I have no idea how I was expected to find that out. There wasn't anyone reasonably close to ask. I finally just picked a spot that sounded clearish, and charged up the hill to see if there was a way to reach the parking lot that way. I don't remember if I left the same way, or actually found the driveway on my way out. But yeah, I still have no idea how I was supposed to guess that the driveway was on the perpendicular, and a sighted person would have known immediately, and even if I had only the sight I had in the 1990s, I could have seen the parking lot and just did what I wound up doing an hour earlier.Which is to say: this is like the second or third time I've heard you suggest that independent travel in an unknown place is impossible. I felt that way and whined about it a lot on this very forum, then tested the limits experimentally (and would have done it sooner if I had more conscientiousness than a stump), and, empirically, I can just ask Siri or Google Maps just like everybody else, and not need rescuing ... at least 2/3 of the time. And Indianapolis was my own damn fault (but the panicking civilians didn't make things easier). ... And also empirically, I still ran into "how was I supposed to figure that out blindly?" things on occasion. I can't tell if I'm splitting hairs or not, here. Sorry if I got this completely wrong This feels weird. Like, in 2013-14, I was complaining about how you basically had to be some kind of demigod to overcome such and such problem. Then I overcame said problem. So either you don't have to be a demigod, or I am a demigod. I don't think it's the latter. I think maybe I'm unusually visually-minded or something? It'd explain the travel skills, and the geometry, and the platformers, and the intermittent attempts at doing things with graphics. Eh, I don't buy it.Ugh. Can a GP prescribe Adderall? I feel like I'm making more ADHD-addled narcissistic posts than usual. Oh, hey, if I wasn't blind, I wouldn't have Medicaid, would I? ... What insurance would I have now, and what would I have had 5 years ago? Hmm. Well, whatever it would have been, it wouldn't have had the restriction about not being able to get stimulants when neither employed nor a student.

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

Sorry @67, perhaps you like to live in an unrealistic world and think we are superior, but I certainly don't. The blind are inferiour in some areas, this is a fact nobody should be ashamed of admitting. Can you drive a car, plane, anything? Or if you like it based on tech, can you get a new PC and immediately go to the Bios to configure the boot devices properly without sighted help for the first time? What happens when you encounter an inaccessible Captcha? No registering for you, because you don't have those different superior abilities. Noone is saying hey, poor blind people can't do anything on their own, people are saying the obvious, which is something that Camlorn already explained very well in his post. I honestly find it hard to believe that in 2020 someone said we should not be realistic about our abilities and what we can and can't do because, I quote, "It's bad enough so many people look at us sideways and even think we should be locked away. " I can't even remember the last time I read something anywhere close to blind people being locked away. But if you can, feel free to poinnt out the post which said blind people can't do anything on their own and are completely inferiour.

I try to play sighted games, but for the most part it's a complete disappointment. waiting for ps5 to come out to buy it and play the newly released fully accessible masterpiece. I hope everything will not end with this game in terms of accessibility for the blind.

I don't like the science fiction future. It sounds weirdly alienating. I don't know why. Extreme transhumanism and/or brain-linked simulations are clearly the only way to Live the Life I want™. But whenever I hear people talk about those things, it just sounds sad. I am confused. But yeah, if I had to pick one futuristic perk, it would not be sight. I'd need to know what futuristic perks are actually on the hypofuturistical table before picking one, but I'd much rather have perfect teeth / no RSI / other biomancies. Things where I know the quality-of-life improvement is unambiguous and positive and without major tradeoffs or concerns. But were I offerred 5 ... eh, maybe. I'd have to actually try and make the list to be sure. But it feels like an obligation more than like something I'd actually want.

Re: Which games do you play the most?

So this might sound narcissistic, but ... mine, with a side of Swamp / the Bokurano Daibouken trilogy / I was playing VGStorm titles quite often but then I suddenly stopped and have no idea why.Basically, I make games that I want to play, for the most part. Other people generally do not. The longer this trend continues, the worse the playtime ratio gets.(Oh, and New Horizons. I still occasionally play space-Santa or buy a moon or something. The other day I realized that I could actually follow other people by matching direction and velocity, so just followed this one ship around until I got covered by too many pirates to not fight back. That was ... ok, that was pointless, but fun I guess.)I made it to Level 7 in Tombhunter, but then I get to that rope and can't figure out where to go before that rock catches up. I want to figure it out without just looking up the answer, but ... probably won't. The ability to sound smart in writing is not the same as actual smart.I am not good enough at making exactly the games I want to play. So someone could still plausibly come free me from my Narcisisisme des Jeux. I should have finished LC at least 10 years ago. That is a lot of years. I need a the dragon balls, or a fairy godparent who still visits people who pay taxes, or something. And of my games, I guess ECTAS, Jeqo Prime, and whatever I've been working on most recently tend to get the most attention.(Someone with more AP than me: remember Swamp Tide? Remember Sengoku Jidai? We need to make Sengoku Tide 10 years ago, too. Like, when you die, you respawn as part of your killer's empire, along with anyone who was in your empire, and it continues until there's one Shogun to rule them all. Then it starts over on a different map. And maybe you spawn with three random weapons/tools, and gain skills/equipment for ashigaru / samurai / shinobi / etc depending on what you use, like how in Swamp Tide zombies transformed as they killed people ... )

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

Let me trot out some reasons.1. Trump is right wing; America's Frontline Doctors is directly funded by the Tea-Party Patriots, who are also right-wing.2. Immanuel is touting the "don't wear masks, everybody will be fine" line, which is something Trump has tried really hard to get folks to believe (you know, by wearing masks something like two whole times since this got going).3. Immanuel is arguing in favour of the very same drug Trump was trying very hard to lobby for. The one where the FDA gave emergency authorization to use, then rescinded that authorization when multiple studies proved that the drug was not worth its risks.Because it's Trump, any one of those ideas all by itself would probably be enough to get his support. Since she rang the cherries three times, the man was just about salivating to sing her praises...then very comically ended up with his foot buried so deep in his mouth that he had to leave a press conference.

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

@65To add to that though, we're getting closer to being able to clone organs every day.  Whether that'd come before or after fully functional eye transplantation I don't know and in part it depends how zealous we are about stem cells and other things as a society.  But there are multiple companies who have gotten as far as cloned chicken nuggets being eaten by actual people.  That is, there was no chicken involved.  I believe one of them did it from feathers actually.  Now admittedly it's not growing in the shape of a nugget and it's fiddly and it's too expensive for your local restaurant, but given that the idea was entirely laughable that you'd have actual meat without the animal even 5 years or so ago and now we can put it on your plate...Welcome to the beginnings of our science fiction future.  The first miracles are always the most expensive.  But we went from the computing equivalent of that in 1960 or so to where we are now in around 50 years.

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

2020-07-29 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : Rastislav Kiss via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

Hi there,@50: eyes transplantation is a quite complicated thing, primarily for two reasons. The firstone is the muscular structure around eyes. Muscles like thigh muscle or arm muscle (I don't know the proper english names) are quite simple, as they are big and work in rather simple way. Muscles around eyes are much smaller, fitted in a small area, and expected to move eyes in various directions, controll your caps etc. This is not easy to reproduce during a transplantation, everything must fit perfectly, otherwise the patient would have quite hot times after waking up.But this problem is not that significant compared to the secondone, consisting of joining patient's optical nerve to the new eye. This is a real trouble, where things get stuck, as nerves can't be simply joined with glue or something like that. They must grow together, what is a quite unpleasant fact considering, that neurons and neural paths do all possible sorts of things just not growing.Neurons are one of the longest living cells in human body, most of them are already created when a baby is born, and last for the whole lifetime. Neuroscientists believe, that some neural paths are built during development of brain, but after the circuits are set, they don't grow or reproduce anymore. Thus, it's not that hard to understand, how challenging is to get these two things to join together. There were some very interesting progresses in this problem in recent years, with successful restoring sight of mouses with cut optical nerves. But the methods are not strong enough yet to work on humans, so further research is necessary. As for moral aspect of transplanting an eye, I wouldn't have problems myself with it. These sorts of transplantations are done already with other organs, so eyes would be just another entry on the list. The person originally wearing them won't need them anymore, and they would decay after some time anyway, so making use of them is the best thing to do. And if the person wants them in his grave so strongly, I can still return them after my death. But seriously, as far as I know, you must give an agreement to use your organs for transplantations after your death, noone will be opening corpses with "you know, we need something from this guy. Don't worry, he will look normally again after we close him."That means, that the person explicitly wanted his eyes to be donored, and thus having them transplanted is okay.Best regardsRastislav

Re: How to make music with out midi keyboard?

2020-07-29 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : CAE_Jones via Audiogames-reflector

Re: How to make music with out midi keyboard?

HTF did I learn NWC in 2002 without assistance, and nobody else can figure it out with my help? QWS is way more accessible, but given the choice between an events list with all the midi details, and just writing sheet music with read-lag to get around the accessibility problems ...Anyway, QWS has a virtual keyboard that's semi usable, especially if you can tweak the config to your liking. NWC has nothing of the sort, and the version I use is not so good for modern Windows but the latest version has problems that prevent me from recommending it (mainly that they nerfed the free version). The biggest problem with the old version is that the help file is in an ancient, unsupported format, and I used the help file a lot when learning the program.Anyway, I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding the first two posts, but none of my midis were made with a midi keyboard. ... Or a virtual keyboard, on a count of by the time I've planned the song thoroughly enough, and practiced it enough to get a good recording... I could have written it several times over and tried a variety of modifications. But since most people apparently have rhythm or something...I know nothing about Reaper. I just use NWC for original music, and QWS when working with pre-existing midis (NWC mangles things with its midi importer, and quite badly, but I still use to use it to learn songs, and just mentally corrected the butchered rhythm).I do prefer NWC to music ml type generators, on the grounds that I can easily listen while editing, without need to compile or whatever. Maybe I just had more patience for learning software back then.I'm on my phone, so can't actually check what's in this, but if it's what I think it is (a bunch of midis I sent someone as a demo), then these are all made in NWC: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1h97dF … opD2Z_wYC2Ugh, someone teach me how to make NVDA addons so I can fix the NWC accessibility problems. It should be trivial. At the absolute worst, it'd just append shift+left, ctrl+c, shift+right, nvda+c to everything, but that's really dumb and would mess up in literal edge cases and ruin the clipboard. But the way the clipboard thing works suggests that both NVDA addons and Jaws scripts should have other ways of identifying NWC notation.I don't like this post. What should I replace it with?

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

@62I was going to write a long reply, then I realized that a cure for blindness counts as technology that lets blind people not be dismissed and puts them on par with sighted people, so now you get this shorter but still a bit lengthy one instead.  And that's not even splitting hairs, that's literally what it is.  As with many of the arguments/"questions" that like to get raised here, you have to somehow logic your way around the elephant in the room.if blind people were going to develop a society of some sort we already would have.  Considering that hypothetical is also pointless.  You'd have to go out of the way to make society of the blind happen, or it would have already. And with the likelihood that the cure for blindness for most of us is a neural implant of some sort going up every day, you may very well be able to turn it off as well.  Plus the only way to have a visual cortex that's more shut off than closing your eyes is to have been entirely blind since the day of your birth, and given that it seems to come with all sorts of spatial reasoning issues in addition to needing to spend double digit numbers of years learning to make up for not having vision, "I have migraines, therefore blindness doesn't seem so bad" is kind of...well.  As someone who has done this and who has succeeded beyond what most sighted people manage with their lives, I promise you that they'd have to be incredibly debilitating, continuous, daily migraines for that to even be a remotely fair comparison.  And it's not about the games or the social stuff, it's about "man it would be nice to walk to place x without having to get someone to show me how first" sorts of things that you're not going to solve short of developing artificial general intelligence, and if we had AGI we'd all be busy living in our science fiction eutopia or something and this wouldn't matter.

Re: Your choice? Would you restore your vision?

@62: Yes, if someone wants to go blind, they should be allowed to do that IMO. If you want to do something with your body that doesn't harm other people, you should be allowed to do that. I also believe assisted suicide, for example, should be allowed but that's another subject entirely. IMO it wouldn't be a smart move because we live in a sighted world and that's not going to change any time soon, but if that's what you want to do, go for it I guess. And yes, it's largely a social issue for me, although not entirely. A lot of it is being able to play video games not just for the social prospects of being able to talk about them or participate in them with your friends, but just for the entertainment prospects. Part of my reasoning for wanting to drive would be to easily meet up with friends, but most of it is just because I want to go places and would prefer taking a car that I own to them. There are plenty of examples in this thread that aren't social. Also, nobody is forcing anyone to do anything, unless you mean retroactively applying these treatments in babies, or whatever. If there were no more blind people, I guess there would be no more audiogames, which IMO would be fine. Why would there need to be? Mainstream games are like 20 years ahead of our most advanced ones, and developing in parallel is a waste of time.

The licance does say that it can be used in projects. So, I guess I can use it, however their is one thing about this game that might make me unable to. Sounds have to be in a folder, as .mp3, midi, or wave files. They can't be encripted like Aaron did with Manamon. Well, I won't be giving the song out and will be putting the rules in the documentation, but if people use the files and don't follow the rules, I don't have control over that.
