Hello all,I've been trying to connect to Sindome for a while now, but no matter what MUD client I use I can't connect. The website says the connection info is moo.sindome.org:. Is this no longer the correct connection info?

Re: Handy spellchecker

I use a word processor called Jarte. There's a premium version, but the free version does what I need it to do, even a spell checker. You would think windows would have its own built in spell checker, but I guess they wouldn't be making money from office products if they did that. Some app's have built in spell checkers, like skype and Discord, I think some browsers also do it, but you have to tell the screen reader to let you know of misspelled words, and that doesn't always work, especially if you use words that sound similar.Like the words sense and since, so many blind people mix those up.A spell checker isn't going to help you in those situations.

They're ansi color and formatting sequences. You have to turn off color however that works, and once you've done that if they're still there you're screwed.  I didn't know that clients even still existed that couldn't handle them though, so maybe find another client.

Re: The Vale (final?) Demo

Re: The Vale (final?) Demo

The worst part is, Shepherd starts out by saying "have a look around", then corrects himself, and Alex lets it pass. You take out "have a listen around" and it's still the same game, and the awkward joke isn't there. If Alex made fun of Shepherd for it, snapped at him, sounded awkward, then fine, keep it in, maybe it's an object lesson. But right now it's simply an awkward line with absolutely zero payoff, and with the added "benefit" that some blind folks - who are a large part of this game's target audience - are going to see it as problematic to one degree or another. As I said, to me it's not a dealbreaker, it's just cringy, and needlessly cringy at that.Fantasy setting means that we don't have to think of this in terms of "medieval" or "olden days". This also means that we don't have to assume that the people in this fantasy setting are acting the same way folks a few hundred years ago on Earth would have done. Based on the magic demo, magic is not just a thing that happens to only Alex - others seem to know about and even understand it a bit - and that introduces an enormous wild card into everything. One thing I want to go back to though? Sometimes I actually really, really liked. The bit where Shepherd's about to go sneaking off, and we see him get killed, but it turns out to have been a dream/vision/fear of Alex, and nothing more. I have always treated that scene like a premonition, and I think it presages potential magic later extremely well.I definitely am not giving up on this game at all. I do think it has some issues, but I have to trust that Falling Squirrel is going to deal with those issues appropriately. If they do, great; look at how many bugs AHC had when it first came out, just as one example, and now it's virtually bug-free as far as I know. If they can do it, so can Falling Squirrel, if it comes down to that. If they don't, I'm sure there'll be more than enough folks to tell them so.

It will add the folders, subfolders and tracks to the playlist.

The menus except the playbooks are accessible for the blind. When in a game there is a rumble feature to help players know if they are doing a running play or a passing play.Face of the franchise does not have any accessible menus for the blind. However if you have a Windows 10 machine you can use the Xbox app with NVDA to OCR the screen to see what is on it.I have not had a good opportunity to mess with the game. I plan on doing that some time this week.If you are a football fan you should get the new game. Especially if you have not played last year's game.

Re: Earwax

@17Suppose that you decide you want to do grid tiles as 1 foot, which is a reasonable-ish choice for anything inside a building, and ironically somewhat better than meters because 1 foot is about 1 footstep.  If I had to estimate, one floor of my apartment building would be something like 100 by 40 tiles, a very large supermarket is probably 200x200 or so, a city block is easily 500x500.  Arrowing over a grid at those sizes is painful, but more to the point it's also kind of incomprehensible without further description like shades of doom has, "You are in isle 5", "There is a passage to your left", etc.  You also have the problem that yeah, ambiance from 10 to 20 x and 5 to 15 y isn't so bad, but what about when it's 273 x to 279 x?  Good luck reasoning that out.  I call this the spreadsheet problem, because it shows up with any sufficiently large grid, whether that be a game map or a data table or whatever else. But the second problem is, suppose you want to make a row of offices in an office building.  DO that with yaml and you cut/paste it.  Do that with the grid editor and you're there all day.  Do that with a function and a for loop and it's done, plus also you can edit one of them and all 10 update properly. But again, I haven't done it.  There's drawbacks.  For example I suspect that you end up with environments that look like a bunch of hallways with dead ends, because that's easy to express when you can just main_hallway.north_exit or whatever else and build off  the previous piece.  But I think that the flip side is that if you ever wanted to build an actual, to-scale city or something like that, things that are bigger than what most audiogames end up with, you need something like this.  I've probably alluded toward my end goal being an MMO; one of the key steps in that, for me, is finding out if I' right about whether or not this can work. There's a lot of other directions you can go, as well.  For example, if you have terrain types, you could make two of those terrain types sidewalk and street.  Then you could let the user define rules for overlapping, the default being error.  But a perfectly reasonable rule to add here is sidewalk + street = crosswalk, sidewalk plus sidewalk mean "corner of main street and 1st avenue" or whatever, and then you can just throw streets down like that and have a well-described neighborhood or what have you.  There's also much more hypothetical things like bringing in constraint solvers (see cassowary for an example) which would, arguably, let you have auto-fitting hallways and things like that too that just always connect two points.I'm not sure I'd go trying to attach scripts in the map files themselves, though that's not a bad idea, just an implementation problem.  Writing something that compiles code like this to a 2d tile grid is actually really easy, but it's also potentially slow enough that you're going to want to load the map without having to recompile it every time, and if the only way to get the scripts attached to the objects is to build the map, that's kind of a nonstarter.  But you could probably solve this with some sort of stable identifiers an just not rebuilding the tile grid if you see one cached, or something.  I dunno.  My plan for the long term was to use Lua and have separate files, being as the goal is an MMO and you need a trusted language to stop everyone hacking the server when building areas, and also because one file per scripted object that's just object-id.lua is also not really super bad. There's a lot of ergonomics and usability stuff that needs designing, like how do you specify positions of objects relative to each other, and how do you easily encapsulate things into functions, etc, that I have ideas on but who knows how good those ideas are.One of the key difference between audiogame maps, both what people have done and what people would like to do, and sighted game maps, is this.  Sighted game maps don't have metadata layers.  This seems kinda like I'm changing the topic, but I'm not: we also need good ways to handle that aspect.  Sighted tile-based game is you drop some road tiles, but audiogame is also you need to be able to say this is 4th street or whatever.  You're also building a GPS system in, basically, with all the GPS stuff.  I don't think anyone's taken that as far as we could.  And on the whole, proposing this kind of thing, I'm really surprised that no one's just said "let's use a programming language and make it nice to use", it's always "My tile editor but better".  I wonder if there's an actual reason for that, I dunno.

Again, this is just hypothetical discussion, not like we're expectin the plot of the game to change. @171, yes, this is fantacy. And yes, blind people can reach great heights. This is, as I said, just discussion for the sake of discussion... and is based on most of us pointing out that lines like "have a listen around" just don't belong in a game that is trying to feature a hero who is blind. Same thing as trying to film a martial arts movie starring a Japanese character who is played by an American who uses awkwardly written Japanese. That's not realistic, that's just disrespectful.

Re: Earwax

So there's something really far down my prototype the things to see if they work list, but an idea I've been playing around with is actually describing maps in code.  For example:town_square = Box(width=5, height=5, description="The town square")
fountain = EnvironmentalObject(position = town_square.bottom_left + v(3, 3), sound="fountain.ogg")
western_road = Box(width=20, height=1, description="The western road")
western_road.position(town_square.bottom_left + 3*y)If you do some overloading of Python operators you can get nice vectors and things to work with, you can detect overlaps by just writing a 2d array and seeing if anything tries to set a cell twice, you can do things like verify_reachable(western_road, town_square) that will throw if it's not reachable, etc.  I don't know how far this goes, thus it being on my to prototype list, but writing something like this is intended to be the Synthizer demo/example project. We need something better than tiles and grid editors, regardless, whether that's solved by you or not.  They work to a point, but there's such a big emphasis on to a point.  Json and yaml and whatever else editing is too rigid--you can do it but yoi have to work out the coordinates in your head.  When I think about even doing something as complicated as Swamp's most basic maps with the kinds of approaches we currently take I die a little inside, let alone doing (say) a proper small town.  With the grids you can either have giant boxes (in which case your roads are cathedrals) or small ones (in which case it's 200x200) and just, there has to be better.  SO, have my idea for better, maybe you'll make something of it.

Admittedly, he would never have given me a gun to shoot people with, but he at least made sure I knew how to defend myself if it came to it. As for the dialogue issues, I wonder how hard it would be to edit out the phrase "describe it for me"; I wouldnt think it would be that hard to find those instances and edit them out. "have a listen around"  is just awkward; nobody who is blind or who spends any amount of time around blind people talks like that.

[PC/Mac] [PARTICIPANTS NEEDED] Virtual Soundwalk

TLDR; Hey, you! Come play this audio-focused "game" I made for PC/Mac and fill out a survey for good karma! Thanks! In the era of COVID, getting out for some fresh air can prove a bit... tricky at times. Would you like a way to take in the sights and sounds of nature all from the safety and privacy of your home? Well, I have an answer for you - all you need is a decent PC or Mac that can run a gaming application!Hi! My name is Hunter and I am exploring the ways in which variations to game audio (particularly ambient soundscapes) affect our experience in virtual environments. As part of my studies, I have developed a virtual space - both visual and aural - mimicking that of a lower montane forest. Participants will control a third-person avatar through a simple objective system utilizing pathing and waypoints for navigation while listening to the accompanying sounds.I have prepared three different audio profiles to correlate with the graphical environment. I would love for users to run each trial (A, B, C) and fill out the attached Google form regarding their experience. Your responses would mean the world, and would help me collect valuable data for my thesis. I'm trying to gather as much as possible over the course of the weekend, so please share if you know someone who might be interested! You can download the program here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ … sp=sharingEach client should be a little over 1 GB. I built it on my mid-grade gaming PC, but tested it on my laptop and MacBook Pro. The experience on mobile devices suffered visual lag, but audio remained unaffected. There is a button on the main menu that will direct you to the Google survey, but I will also post it here: https://forms.gle/YMw4qhhxY9JqLL3K7Be sure to check out the .txt file labeled "Asset List" for links to the packages I used on the Unity Asset Store if you enjoyed them as much as I did!Thank you so much for your time!PS - The overall build is pretty rudimentary, I know. A big objective for me during this process was learning the ins-and-outs of Wwise and its integration with Unity. I'm a sound designer for theatre by trade, but I've always wanted to delve deep into the world of game audio. Thanks for playing out my first attempt at it!

friends. what difference does it make how often Alex talk about her blindness. she's blind, so what? many blind people, if they strive for something, they can reach heights. personally, in my picture of the world fits into what she does not see and her uncle, not wanting her to be defenseless, teaches her to fight. especially do not forget that this is a fantasy world. maybe she has some magical abilities judging by the demo exist. but in fact in the Middle Ages anything could have happened. and this is not the Middle Ages but fantasy! FANTASY. so everything is quite logical. no need to mix the game with reality. I'm sorry I didn't want to offend anyone, I just expressed my opinion.

Re: I am mad at this forum

Now that the topic has come up, I'd like to put my thoughts here. First of all, I don't like the tone that people take when they're talking about him. Maybe it's perceived, but yeah I'm not a fan. I do think he's got some things going on in his life. I have no idea what they may be on an official level. For all of that, the guy is intelligent and creative. I've seen him make music, and sound packs for games. I've seen him put on performances where he basically choreographs the entire thing to a tee.As to the accusations, I don't appreciate the ones leveled at me. First of all, it's no one's business what goes on as regards him off the forum. Secondly, you have no ground to stand on. Third, I do consider him a friend - as much as that is possible with his conditions. The only reason I didn't write about this before now is that I didn't want to spell this out in case he read it and cared about it. Basically, I wanted to protect him as much as I could. His conditions don't excuse his behavior here, so it wasn't relevant to say such things just to say them, again, in case he saw it and his feelings were hurt over it.Basically what I'm trying to say is that I understand why people are not thrilled about the way he carries on. I get it. While I do think he has some things going on in the mental department, I sort of have a soft spot for him because I see past it to his more creative side.Believe me, I have tried - as well as others - to talk to him about these things. it's just really hard to get him to focus. Sometimes, he can have very coherent conversations, but those come far and few between. Most of the time though, he's just... for lack of a better _expression_, a loose cannon.I mean, he's gone from tweeting about trump and wishing he were dead, to all out @mentioning him and telling him that he'd kill him. We've talked about that as well. So just try to keep that in mind and don't take him so seriously. Maybe at  some point, he will do something that ends up getting him banned. I don't really think he'd actually harm anyone, given the chance. He's just different and sometimes those differences don't lend themselves to compatibility with the outside world. One last thing, while I won't attempt to dissuade anyone from commenting if he acts out again, I'd appreciate that people keep what I've said in mind. I promise you, any attempt to shit stir and bring up drama as it regards to him will not be taken well by me. Not well at all.

Defender, thank you for saying what I was trying to say much more eloquently than I could have said it. I'm really not a fan of the word mental illness and the sort of ipression it conveys, I think saying he has a learning disability would have perhaps been a better choice of words. I wasn't trying to dogpile, if anything I was trying to do the exact opposite. I know plenty of people with learning disorders, some of them not so different than electro, and minus the language barrier, all of them have more or less the same sort of social issues. If anything I'm surprised that people such as dark, ironcross32, etc haven't gotten warnings for basically poking fun at his issues for their own amusement, similar to the recordings floating around on any audio of him on TT in the shower and what have you. And all of these people absolutely should know better.

Once done, select all and copy, then go back to where ever I was before and paste. Done and done. I like that way best, mainly because I've always liked MS word's spell checker, and this isn't far from that.

Re: The Vale (final?) Demo

I justified Alex being given a weapon for a very simple reason. Her uncle. Her uncle, you'll remember, is the king's brother. He's used to living in the king's shadow. His voice even makes him sound a little bitter about it. He's trying to make sure that his daughter is not completely helpless, because apparently most other people, including her own family, want to just put her out of the way where she can't get hurt. It's a happy accident, then, when she and her uncle's party are set upon, and she's able to actually use the skills her uncle gave her. This isn't some official who's giving her a weapon and expecting her to be a soldier on the front lines; this is someone who doesn't want to see Alex as useless, and who decided to teach her skills to ensure that no one could push her around. And so yeah, it might sound ridiculous, but I can buy it, actually.

Re: The Vale (final?) Demo

I guess at the end of the day, I don't care all that much how awkward the dialog is, or whether Alex's blindness is just handwaved away. Just seems like there are smarter ways to make a good game than pumping out demo after demo. I remember reading bug reports about some of the earlier demos and thinking "WTF, how does something like that make it out to players?" I thought we'd have those days behind us by the time we've been handed what we're told is a final demo. And it's in that context that I place the awkward dialog and other somewhat minor but noticeable issues. Imagine this story, but with A Hero's Call-style mapping, navigation, etc. I mean, it's not like there isn't a blueprint for most of the audio game mechanics in the demo. And I get that money is likely a factor, but I don't imagine producing and supporting all these demos is cheap. If that's what Falling Squirrel felt they needed to do to learn what lots of other developers in this community have already put effort into discovering, how do we fix that so the next group can, say, give us a fairly solid but maybe a bit rough first demo, then follow up with a solid release? How do we do that across the board, from development to story to sound to distribution to...? Because this stuff isn't easy, but we don't exactly get lots of games like this, so I want to see each and every one do as well as it can. The awkward dialog, like the code issues, is an area where I think our input could have made things better, but somehow those changes didn't manifest. And I'd rather not speculate on why that didn't happen, and just note that it didn't. And it doesn't again and again, and groups seem to want to learn all this themselves and at their own expense.I'm a bit worried about Pitch Black for similar reasons, but they're actually coming to us and asking for suggestions on mechanics, and requesting our feedback in ways that make it seem like it'll be actionable. So that makes me worry less, even though I hope the spinoff games they're making don't burn through their runway, or through their desire to keep working with the difficult community we sometimes can be. Anyhow, I'll stop rambling. I really do want this game to succeed, but if it's this broken for so many, I'm worried that it won't.

Re: Elon Musk NeuraLink Update: August 28th

Camlorn, biological cures would get to universal easily I would say.  Gene therapy with CRISPR is a concept that can be applied to all genetic disorders pretty much, and if it becomes possible to cause neurons and structures in the eye etc to regrow themselves, then it is basicly a done deal. So one really huge disadvantage of implants, is that people can hack them, and do stuff to affect your perception of reality. Like, for example, people could make you hear sounds that wern't there, or see things that wern't there, and cause you to literally do anything, or affect your thoughts, or even body functions, such as those functions that the ottonomic nervous system does, and kill someone that way. Another negative aspect is simply that if anything happens to the implant, you are basicly stuck blind, or deaf or whatever you had before, whereas  biological senses do not have this issue. Also, the fact that you would have to plug yourself into a wall would be incredibly annoying too.For these and many other reasons, if a biological cure vs implant situation existed, I would absolutely take the biological one.

Re: Elon Musk NeuraLink Update: August 28th

They've already done experimental research with [auditory] and [visual] stimulation of specific regions of the brain, but the limited number of subjects, invasive surgeries, and highly specialized equipment makes further research tricky. Not that I like the idea, but a standardized implant like this thats easy to install/remove could pave the way for more seamless augmentations and rapid progress, of a kind anyway. So instead of having to get a retinal implant, a cochlear implant, a spinal implant, etc. you'd only need one Neuralink implant that could connect with external devices to relay information to/from the brain. Course, this doesn't mean its going to be useful for everyone, people who suffer brain damage, strokes, seisures, etc. may not be elegible, not to mention potential unforseen side effects. Or, you know, implant hacking, which is a real concern. This presentation is also just an early version, and is more for recruiting more technical expertise for further development. We'll have to see how it really pans out or how useful it actually ends up being, much like any tech product.@17The human eye, like everything else about you, is developed purely from stem-cells during fetal development via cellular communication and hormones. Understanding how cells and genes encode and organize themselves, and that signaling could unlock ways for cellular regeneration of specific organs, like how types of amphibians or lizards can regenerate limbs. Not quite gene therapy mind, but in the same neighborhood.

@keyIsFullAre you using Replay The Spire? I'm guessing if Mod The Spire is crashing it is likely a conflict between mods that somehow crashes Mod The Spire itself. Replay The Spire and StSLib are currently the only mods I have begun supporting so those might be causing problems.

This is obviously very India focussed, and it doesn't even has any app that I know of. Basically, the entire platform works through IVR "Interactive Voice response", which is the system used by call centres and service centres. You call a number, the system gives you options and the number associated with it. You press that number and navigate the entire platform in that manner. If you want to share something, just press the designated number, and then speak the message that you want to share. Remember folkes, we are talking about people who don't have good internet access and probably not even a smartphone. Some of them still use that old feature phone which doesn't even has a camera. So, this social media platform based on calls makes sense for them.I am sharing an article by forbes India just in case someone want to learn more about it.https://www.forbesindia.com/article/iim … rk/48531/1We probably want something more convenient than making voice calls and navigating I.V.R.s, so this might not be the solution that we want. Re: Code Dungeon - A FREE hack & slash dungeon crawler

Thanks for the positivity, defender! I didn't manage to do everything, but I figured something is better than nothing;Alright, Update is out! This is version 1.2.1This is just a QUALITY OF LIFE update; It does NOT include new gameplay. If you've played through the content already, its gonna be a little longer until there's a content update. Please Delete your old saveFiles before downloading this update: They are incompatible and will cause issues. That means: Delete everything in the folder C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\AppData\LocalLow\Wiktor and Benjamin\Code DungeonThis shouldn't be necessary for future patches, but this patch restructured the Saving System. Main Order of business: The game SHOULD Crash less: I haven't been able to crash the game all day.Escape now gets you out of Deep Menus, but will not resume the game. (Should make mistaken UI clicks less frustrating) (Requested by defender)- Scan works on Pickup items. (defender)- Sounds have a ton of options for adjustments. Go into Options > Audio Settings for a list of sliders that you can adjust.-You can turn off Mouse Input- All controls and options and audio settings are saved to Text Files, so if the game DOES crash, it's slightly less annoying. (Requested by defender #24)-You can now rebind the arrow keys (Requested by Ghaith#23)- Game no longer writes text logs for Collisions, attacks and taking damage; this caused a very slight performance hitch, and I don't need that data urgently anymore. Might turn on again at a later point if new features need to be tested.I did not manage to implement the new features I mentioned: sound cue for in-range of enemy, entering new room, cardinal direction, etc. Splitting the Audio mixing and creating a system for updating all those volume settings separately ended up taking all day. I had a bug that was incredibly frustrating to track down that slowed things a lot.I'm taking tomorrow off (Sunday) and continuing on Monday. If the game crashes for anybody, please let me know and I will furrow my brow and call a friend to help track it down. I have no idea what it could be a this point if it still happens.

Re: Elon Musk NeuraLink Update: August 28th

@15There's a difference between the state of the art today, and the state of the art in 20 years.  Yes, cochlear implants aren't great.  yes, the current artificial eyes aren't great either.  But if you don't want V1 or V2, just wait until V3.  This entire field is advancing at an incredible pace, literally faster than computer science did.  The real problem isn't V1 is worse than sighted vision and I can't get V2 because I got V1.  It's going to be V4 lets you see wi-fi, have a minimap, connect to your car via bluetooth, and also you can use it for fully immersive VR experiences and have telepathy, but shame you got V3 which makes you merely human.  Musk's timelines are unrealistic, but Musk's idea of this being something that fundamentally changes the world isn't--it's just more like 50 years away for human-AI superbeing fusion thing, not 5.Cochlear implants are actually not in the brain, if I recall, and also for the most part they're from before computers could just be stuck in your ear, and also that entire field has been advancing as well. The biological cures aren't universal.  When you say biological is better you're disregarding that brain implants are rapidly beginning to not suck, but more importantly it's going to take 20 to 30 years per disease, and the best you can hope for is to stop whatever it is from getting worse in most cases.  People are excited about the brain implants because it's the closest thing we have to a universal blindness cure, and getting from here to there takes less effort than handling everything one by one.  You're talking about 100 million dollars or so minimum start to finish for insert-blindness-cause, with a timeline of 20 or 30 years.  For much of it, it'd be closer to half a billion, or higher.  For those of us such as myself with super, super rare stuff where no one will ever put in that money, too bad.  Or we chase the brain implants on the same timeline for a fraction of the cost and get everyone in one go.And before someone says but if I connect to my car via bluetooth, can't I be hacked?  Yes you could, and this is why I'd probably not buy that one myself. This is just so frustrating though, to see people making this mistake.  I already used the room-sized computer vs. laptop analogy, but it's really apropos.  The brain implant people are showing you the room-sized computer version and saying laptop in 20-50 years and everyone's just kind of like "but that's impossible/will be worse" despite us already having done similar things.  We've done the same thing with AI: surely computers won't be able to write poetry or compose original music, and now they can, and rather than say "hey, you know, that's interesting" we just move the bar higher and say but it's not actually doing what it claims, and there's no way to improve it.  Over and over and over.  I don't understand why people are so bad at understanding scientific progress.

Re: Earwax

Hey all,I'm starting on the game maker part of Earwax, and I'm hoping to get some input on what sort of interface people would like to see?I'm working on a command line interface currently, so the work flow would be something like:mkdir game
cd game
earwax init (initialises default files and directory structure)
earwax createmap "Scarry Forest" (creates a new map called Scarry Forest)
earwax maps (shows a list of maps with indices next to them)
earwax configuremap 1 --name "Scary Forest" (rename the first map because we spelled the name wrong)
earwax build 1 (open a GUI that allows you to use arrow keys to move around a map and place things from menus)
earwax surfaces (shows a list of added surfaces)Surfaces dictate what sound will be heard when moving around maps. There will be a default surface for the map (which could be silent), and each "area" of the map can have its own surface. You create them by dumping directories of sound files in the "sounds/surfaces" directory, which is created with `earwax init`. They should look like:sounds:    surfaces:        concrete:            concrete1.wav            concrete2.wav        sand:            sand.wavIt will eventually be possible to configure the "actions" that are available on a per-level basic, so for example you could have a city map that's 2d where you can turn, and walk, and run, followed by a side scroller sewer pipe level where you can only move sideways and jump.I'm thinking of making some kind of system where you can create variables with a command like `earwax global point int 0`, which - when coupled with a basic script builder - will allow you to do minimal coding in your games. For anything not covered by the basic system (likely a lot), you'll be able to write your own Python, and the system will pull it in when creating a final script with a command like `earwax build`.So there's my ideas so far. I'd love to hear what people think (the good and the bas), and as many suggestions as humanly possible.I'm sure there's better ways to do what I want to do, so please feel free to be critical. Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

Re: The Vale (final?) Demo

@165, I agree. And to everyone else talking about realism, this is a game. We know the protagonist is blind, and there's no need to constantly point it out in such an overt way. The best example of a blind character is Makoto Makimura from Yakuza Zero. She is portrayed as a blind girl who needs to be helped and taken care of, which is typical. But noone makes any pointless or bad jokes or comments because that isn't what her character is about. She gets tormented by the bad guys in the game for her plot significance, not her blindness. You want realism? The girl wouldn't even be allowed out let alone given freaking weapons! So don't say you want realism on one hand and be ok with a blind swordswoman in a game with a medieval setting. There are more issues with this game that matter more to me, but awkward dialogue is something I dislike in any game regardles of theme.Rant over. I know that came across as probably more blunt than I intended, and it wasn't meant to criticize. I do hope this game's issues get resolved, and I'd like Falling Squrrel's input on the dialogue choice and character portrayal as well, because until that happens, we're all just speculating. lol

@lav andric, Have you read any of the documentation?First, check to see the icon's running in your system tray.Next, access the context menu and enable beeping. You can change the sound it uses in the settings dialogue. Now type some stuff, anywhere. If TS beeps, it's working. You'll now want to customize the hotkeys in the settings, adjust when TS should be used, possibly edit your dictionary.

Re: Elon Musk NeuraLink Update: August 28th

Camlorn, I think gene therapy is more feasable, especially with  CRISPR. It alone wouldn't fix damage already done probably, but would at least stop progressive conditions getting worse, and you could then combine that with something like stem cell therapy to regenerate the preexisting damage. With mechanical cures, the sense you have will likely never even come remotely close to the regular sense, take cochlear implants for example, and the electricity flowing out of the implants could damage the brain and sensory organs over time. You would also have to get repeated surgeries for vv2, v3, v4 etc.  Biological senses don't get bug fix releases.

Re: Elon Musk NeuraLink Update: August 28th

Musk has yet to do much new science.  He's getting PR for less than it appears he's done.  We've gone so far as monkeys controlling robotic arms.  So far, all he's shown is that his company can manufacture something that's tied with the state of the art with his method, maybe a little bit ahead.@11You can't replace things that are missing via gene therapy in the general case, and it's also not at all possible to develop one cure.  You have no choice but to do it per disease, at a cost of tens of millions of dollars each and the entire clinical trial thing, and then sometimes it'll be like "and then you have to get it at age 10 because it only stops it getting worse" etc etc etc.  There's only hope for a biological cure for the really, really common stuff.@12I don't know why everyone seems to forget that you can literally just flip the off switch on this stuff and it, like, turns off.  Quite apart from the stimulation problems probably not being that big a deal and probably being fixable in some fashion if they are, you can just turn the thing off.  But yet every time this stuff comes up everyone just overlooks that aspect of it.

Re: Best iOS voice recording software?

Sorry for the wall of text below. I'm just really interested in this and have a fair bit of info and speculation. As a bit of an audiophile, I care a lot about sound quality so I've been very interested in this topic.I don't like to use voice memos for recording because it enables the IOS audio processing (which sounds like eq and automatic gain control). It isn't bad per say, it just alters the sound and I would rather not have that. When recording a video with the videos app, the processing gets even more apparent, as it sounds like noise reduction is added to the mix. The audio is clear and of course in stereo, and the noise reduction isn't all that bad, but again you can tell it's not a pure recording. Not only that, but the orientation isn't fixed; turn your phone and the orientation will rotate. So unless you keep your phone perfectly still, the stereo field will either be all over the place, or just, blurred and difficult to hear, at least in my experience. Even before stereo audio though, I've been looking for other apps to record with, and here's what I found so far.A few years ago, I used an app called audio memos. It had an option to disable the IOS audio filters. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend it to quality nuts like me as fervently as I once did. If you buy the app, you don't seem to get the audio filters toggle anymore, thus all of your recordings will have the filters enabled. If you bought the app a long time ago, you'll still get the option now, but newcomers will not get it, and I'm assuming this is because Audio Memos is using a subscription-based model to enable advanced features. Maybe if I used more of its features, I would be okay with this, but since I don't really need those features, I was disappointed to discover the change. I'm lucky enough to have bought the app before this happened, and thus I still get the option now, but I am soon going to switch to something else. Sometimes I use another app called Auphonic, which always leaves the audio filters off. You can even pick which microphone on your device it uses to record. The only huge issue with it is that it crashes when I change settings (which for me isn't a huge deal since I basically just set them once and leave them). The biggest problem for me at least, is that it switches your audio to the earpiece when you begin recording. I've been told that devices without an earpiece are fine, but with phones which do have an earpiece, it's an awful inconvenience if you don't want to use headphones. I have e-mailed the auphonic developers about this, and they said they would look into it. That was over a month ago though, so I'm not sure if they will or not.The last time I checked, Auphonic does not support stereo recording with the built-in microphones on IOS 14 beta. This is because there are separate API calls to enable and use it if I understand correctly. In my e-mail to Auphonic, I also mentioned the stereo recording, and provided a link to the above developer documentation page. I think Auphonic would be the perfect app to utilize this, as it already exposes options most other apps do not. Therefore if they add stereo recording, I expect you'll be able to change the orientation and whatnot, since it looks like the API will let you do that. And of course the filters will be turned off if possible, as that is one of the main selling points of Auphonic. Again, they said they would look into the stereo options and see what they could do. Whether it will actually be done or not is something I cannot at all predict. I'm hoping for the best, but not expecting too much.Heck, it's possible Audio Memos will get stereo recording first, iirc the app is still active. I'm not going to pay for a subscription if it's the first app to get stereo recording, but I may give it a trial run if possible.IN the meantime, I'd be very interested in other apps people use which have a focus on audio quality. Some interesting suggestions are in this thread, though I think Hokusai leaves the filters on, at least it seemed to do that last time I checked. I haven't tried any others, but I will do so in the near future. I've heard Just Press Record sounds good as well, but I haven't tried. Heck I don't even know if it's still around; I only briefly heard about it like 4 years ago.I haven't even looked into Gold Wave for IOS yet let alone check it out, but that's also on my list of apps to investigate. I'm not sure how many of the recording options are exposed or are planned ot be exposed, but I could certainly make a post on the forums about it if it seems to have potential. I've e-mailed the dev briefly on a few occasions relating to the PC version of Gold Wave, and I get a good vibe from  him, so perhaps he's open to stuff like this.

You will need monsters with high "Helth", "Intelligence", and "Concentration" to find useful items during exploration.Get these 3 stats growing monsters and repeat the training. When the three stats reach the target value, we will enter the competition until the "popularity" reaches 20%. "Clever players" and "Beautiful Players" are recommended. You can participate in the competition during training, but please avoid participating in the "growth period" or "peak period".

Re: computer power suplie exploded, is any thing else damaged?

Ok, now my laptop psu is doing some stuff that kind of bugs me. So the following. I have this new hp laptop here that i now own for like 1 month, it arrived here on 10.07 but was only turned on 10 days later because i was in holydays and it was so nice to arrive exactly on the day where i was siting in the car. All works great. The psu is a standart one with one cable that you plug in the actual psu and there a cable that you plug into the laptop. I have now noticed that every time i touch the psu or do something so the cable from is moving, it is doing electric noises. It happens on the side where the cable is going into the psu, fortunately not on the laptop side. I how ever still find this kind of vorrying because it also makes nice noises if i take the cable out of the laptop without turning the power off, and then it sounds like it has to fight back power for adleast 4 secs until it is silent again. Is that normal or do i need to look for a new one? Btw, desktop with the exploded psu still works perfectly normal, except a problem that was not hartware related.
