@GCW, Actually the important question would  be?  where do you turn when you are faced with great adversity, when suffering takes you by the throwt, and smashes you in to the cleaf of your own self?  Is it science?  Is it religion?  Or may be it is poetry?  Once I prised philosophy, now I am not sure if may be let's say a street cleaner isn't better then Kant.If you want to talk send me a pm.

Re: I am affronted by the presence of god

Science doesn't work like that and it doesn't concern with that.  Religion very strange stuf in there.  Now the question is what is that whitch streches between science and religion, but touches none?  What is the line that neither goes to the boundryes of science, neither falls in to religion?  I can tell you that if it comes to push and such, we are all surrounded by unknown.  Absolute truth, oh nbut every truth tired of itself consumates like a bird in midfight.  such truth are allways former errors, Any mistake is a former truth. But there is no initial one, because the distance between truth and error is marked only by the pulsation, by the inner animation, by the secret rhythm. Thus, error is a truth that has no soul, a worn-out truth that is waiting to be vitalized.Truths die psychologically, not formally; they maintain their validity, continuing the non-life of the forms, although they may no longer be valid for anyone.

@khomus, good that you at least tryed to decode it and understand it.  I am not sure why, but the language of this particualar philosopher is quite hard to get in to english.  May be because of the way he writes. It may have been a great mistake posting things like that without saying,  what it was.  Since it's hard to start such a thing, may be this atempt should be stoped...In all honesty  I wasn't waiting for such replyes.  Of course, those things are hard to translate in to english, and it's so hard to do for the simple reason that  French or Romanian has a greater vocabulary structure and expresivity then english in certain ways.Of course we can actually try tp think how much did those truth pointed out by philosophers change?  How much did they change us or rather slowed us down?  May be we should do that.@Lem very interesting thing with the black mirror, may be in time technology will be harder to tame, may be I will have to clerify more latter.

just think of the essence of bordem a state of bordem that is between acts before doing anything , a state of lucidity in which you are no longer your own subject, time flows differently because then the man which is bored is lucidly contemplating it'snature feeling it's wait, allways outside of it.  He is not an object nnot a subject, he is something more then the world since bordom itself suspends him.   People usually don't have the lucidity of the passing of time, but just think about it it all seems a frozen becoming.   Bordem as universal.

A humanity unbound by all it's reality turned in to an eternal sunday

If Sunday afternoons were extended for months, where would humanity get to, liberated from sweat, from the weight of the first curse? The experiment would be worth the trouble. It is more than likely that crime would become the sole diversion, that debauchery would seem candor, shouting melody and jeers tenderness. The sensation of time’s immensity would make each second into an intolerable torment, a sublime firing squad. In hearts imbued with poetry would appear a blasé cannibalism and a hyena’s melancholy; butchers and executioners would die out—of lethargy; churches and brothels would split with sighs. The universe transformed into a Sunday afternoon . . . it is the very definition of ennui, and the end of the universe. . . . Take away the curse hanging over History and it immediately vanishes, like existence itself, in absolute vacancy, exposing its fiction. Labor builds on nothingness, creates and consolidates myths; elementary intoxication, it excites and maintains the belief in “reality"; but contemplation of pure existence, contemplation independent of actions and objects, assimilates only what is not. . . .The idle apprehend more things, are deeper than the industrious: no task limits their horizon; born into an eternal Sunday, they watch-—and watch themselves watching. Sloth is a somatic skepticism, the way the flesh doubts. In a world of inaction, the idle would be the only ones not to be murderers. But they do not belong to humanity, and, sweat not being their strong point, they live without suffering the consequences of Life and of Sin. Doing neither good nor evil, they disdain—spectators of the human convulsion—the weeks of time, the efforts which asphyxiate consciousness. What would they have to fear from a limitless extension of certain afternoons except the regret of having supported a crudely elementary obviousness? Then, exasperation in the truth might induce them to imitate the others and to indulge in the degrading temptation of tasks. This is the danger which threatens sloth, that miraculous residue of paradise.(Love’s one function is to help us endure those cruel and incommensurable Sunday afternoons which torment us for the rest of the week—and for eternity.Without the allurement of the ancestral spasm, we should require a thousand eyes for hidden tears, or else nails to bite, mile-long nails. . . . How else kill this time which no longer passes? On those interminable Sundays the disease of being is utterly plain. Sometimes we manage to forget ourselves in something; but how forget ourselves in the world itself? This impossibility is the definition of the disease. The man who is afflicted by it will never be cured, even if the universe changed altogether. Only his heart should change, but it is unchangeable; hence for him, to exist has only one meaning: to dive into suffering—until the exercise of a day-by-day nirvanization raises him to the perception of unreality. . . .)A world which shall be remmoved of all it's platitudes and false pretentions of the spirit of that spirit which incloses the world absently, from all it's original curse which locked away civilization within it's onw object.

I need some help with finding a book

Hi !I am here again binding and searching .Really, it's great because I just started reading Rilka and his poems, I am moved by his greatness, child of expresionism, and literature of the new romantics as I call him.  So much I like Rike for his revolutionary soirit, a spirit that today it's not needed, which makes me sad.Remember that he has some misshonest words when he speaks to some high lady or other.  He can't expres all that he is trying to eather by virtue or by his great reticence.  Pardon him however. But I didn't come here to ask and talk about Rilke, but I want to find some italian books if possible translated in to english. The author is called Guido Ceroneti a great figure in literature and a great person from what I gathered. If you do know of any of his books then please tell me.

Re: Non-religion specific prayers

He who does not coincide with anything will not coincide more with himself either: hence the calls without faith, the hesitant convictions, the fever without fervor, that doubling which affects our ideas and even our reflexes. The ambiguity, which governs all our relations with this world and the next, we keep at first for ourselves; then I spread it around, so that no one would escape, so that no one would know what to expect. There is nothing clear anywhere: it is our fault that things themselves are faltering and perplexed. We should have the faculty — indispensable to one who seeks salvation — to believe that prayer is possible. Hell is when prayer becomes inconceivable.Establishing a universal ambiguity is our most disastrous feat and makes us rivals of the demiurge.

If it also has melancolic undertones even better.

Re: what uis n?eoludism?

@Ethin yap!  you are geting a grasp of it It may as we;;  be that we can never get out of this hole that we made out of relativism, insightful however is the fact that the power of myth is no longer active in those times, religions quite gon, gods gon, well we now play the game of questions essentially for no aperant reason , since I don't see a way out of the relativist perspective, be it metaphysical or epistemic.  By believeing in no metaphysical experience we are now limeted to a fragment, or just this temporary world, and by regecting any form of knowledge we basicly form our own conceptions.A character from a play, a novel or a tragedy must hold to an ideal even if he or she won't reach it.  In this sence the thing is closer to reallity then we thought.  now, I really understand why the romantic poets got in to dreams, and tryed to disciffer  the reality through feeling and experience.  They as well had a great passion for nature, and were opposed to traditional views. There is a great german play called in english From the life of a good-for-nothing writen by the leeding romantic figure  Josef phon Eachendorff.  In many respects this character is one of the wisest persons you can meat in romantic literature.  What we need to understand is the sence of romantic wander idealism which was lost.Well,  I believe even if I am a pessimist that poetry and literature should be a main guide to life, sommething that can show us new ways to live life more greatly with more intensity.   Also by accepting contradictions I learned we can coap better with reallity.  Far from being bad a pessimistic philosophy can counter suffering .  Much like the stoic sence of acceptance it can strengthen us more deeply. That qwowt from Lovecraft shows truly the ideas I wanted to convay.  Yes , it shows much truth , it's not just history which has it's axsioms of decline, but also ideas. There is one man who I admire very much that being Johan Woofgang phon Goethe .  A man who was able to reconcileate the problems of his life and his experiences and to make them sublime a friend of elements, someone with a highly esthetic sence, even though he was a clasic and the clasics see reallity and their works as a strate line.  He was capable of so much more.I recommand Faust .   Faust is a very great introduction to the human condition .  I say.May be who knows we will be able to find new myths and things that we make us strive for something greater though write now it's quite hard.Well, may be it sounds stupede but it will make sence in the end I think.

All I am saying is that the world will inevitably gravitate twords an absolute again, not being able to hold the relativism for long, and will contradict itself by doing so.So, It will force itself back in to paralasis, not being able to contend with any Ideals, we will yet again shrink. Well, after so much information, people will, by instinct alone, grab for the absolute, maybe before or maybe after the complete relativisation of everything. You see? We are contempt in our state of how the things are, finding just a mistery and putting it on the table as a trophy, something that we think was never done before in this civilisation's history.

hi to all!in the last period I have been interesting in the idea of ludism, and the abolition of technology. The main idea  is that technology will in the end destroy us.  Something that seems trivial, and whooever you can name may agree in principle.  In principle only because in truth to accept it would have a  different implications that we are not ready to face.Does anyone know any writings that are anti-technological in tone and scoap?

The present educational conventions fade from their minds; and, unhampered by tradition, we work our own good will upon a grateful and responsive rural folk. We shall not try to make these people or any of their children into philosophers or men of learning, or men of science. We have not to raise up from among them authors, editors, poets or men of letters. We shall not search for embryo great artists, painters, musicians nor lawyers, doctors, preachers, politicians, statesmen, of whom we have an ample supply…The task we set before ourselves is very simple as well as a very beautiful one, to train these people as we find them to a perfectly ideal life just where they are… So we will organize our children into a little community and teach them to do in a perfect way the things their fathers and mothers are doing in an imperfect way, in the homes, in the shops and on the farm." -"   Frederick T. Re: I've randomly become fed up with school

There are some interesting things to say.Memorisation as we know it's not learning.  It doesn't matter how many times you repeat a thing if it doesn't stay with yoou it's not meaningful. The greatest teachers are those who can make their disciplin seem important and interesting to the students despit the discipline  not being important at all.  But of course an examination is more important for the education sistem then real learning.  As a side joak it's known the depression that school causes from ancient times!Seriously, I don't know if practical importance is what bothers us, but rather the enjoyment.  As long as one can enjoy the activity, and take something useful on the side, then this problem wouldn't be there.  Critical thinking is  major point that's hardly developed, since to have it you first need to have freedom of thought , which I can't see being provided in any school. Of course, schools are rarely giving us the oportunity to develop the talents that do have, they instead herd us like sheeps.  And then you wander why many people don't have any thing out there? It's also regurgitation without any kind of experience natural or of another kind.   Please search on the Prushan  school sistem.   It was so successful that they adopted it's wors aspects everywhere.

Re: The wheel of time and other fantasy books

@dark, That's some of it since I can see that heroes play a grand role in every story. The heroic need can nearly be called a universal one, if you will.  There is much more to this because Rand is not always the center, the wheel coses  things and it makes Ta'viran as it wills, that's why I was curious to see if the wheel is shaping destinies ? or are the ta'viran shaping them.  If ta'viran can change other destinies,? Wouldn't be reasonable to assume that they could change their own destinies.  As an example I would like to point to a scene where Mat tryes for the first time the twisted red dor, the tearangrial from tear..  There those serpent like creatures tell him to go to Ruidian , to escape fate itself.  And there are other scenes  where things don't happen as they shoudl have.  I take that as a sighn that the characters sometimes can change their destiny.   But I am not so sure, since the wheel cose who are the ta'viran so does that mean that the wheel can do whatever it wants with them for it's own purposes?   You see how complex the thing is?  You can also argue that there is no freedom from destiny since ages come and go.   what do you think?   How is the nature of the wheel?  can characters change their destiny/fate? or  not?

@Dark, on another note.  How can philosophy  be pointless?  Do you want to tell me that it was a time when philosophy was pointful?  does this word exist? ofcoiurse, but was it just pointless? Or is it pointless in contrast with something else?

Re: The wheel of time and other fantasy books

ok, many things have happened in the series, since I posted.  I am at the shadow rising, and I am really curious to see the ail wastes and their way of living.  They have strange customs , and I was also curios what was the inspiration for them.  I would like an article detailing that.  There are manythings for example Lanfear telling Rand that she wants him to join her, and he not having the guts to kill her, but that's not the thing.  More importantly is her take on the prophecy.  She says that the prophecy is only how the people hope it could be ai's sedai being some of those.  But isn't Lanfear right?  I mean the dragon Rand/lews Therin can he not change his destiny?  He is taviran which means that he can change the destiny of others, but can he change his own?  Thats' strange how is the wheel supposed to work, in this instance?  Are the ta'veran changing the wheel ? or is the wheel changing them?  Can they actually change destiny ? or is destiny changing them all? Or may be a ta'veran  changes the destiny of others, but when he or she has to take decisions freely, he can't because he /she is bound by the pattern.  I don't know which of those 3 , but that makes it more interesting .  what's your take on it guys?Blood and ashes!  blood and fucking bloody ashes!, but this series is bloody good, the light burn it!

@jayde I thought that about ishamael  too, though it's said that he is one of the strongest forsaken if not the strongest. Rand the first time didn't even knnow what he was doing, it always seems to this point at least that he defeated him only by blind luk. Ishamael is by far more experienced then Rand who doesn't know how to use his power, so how could some one like Rand beat Ishamael ?I enjoyed the chapters with the 3 girls imensly, I also have to mention that I am reading it as an audio book. The narators are exxcelent.  of course there is another mysteryAnd that is the thing with the black ajah, what were those black sisters doing in tyr in the first place? it's like after they captured Elaine , Nuyneave and Egweene, they just had no part to play. what were theu doing there?I have more to say on wheel of time, but that's all for this post:d

We just got chapters with description of viliges and such places from Perrin's point of view which sometimes got boring when you get only description. I enjoyed the wolf dreams thogh, and telairan riod scenes.I would have wished to find more of how Rand trains himself in using the power, and his conflict with the idea of being the dragon. Besides that the book was good. But in the end why was perrin hurt by the falkans in the world of dream, when he tryed to save Serine. Wasn't she controling the falkans? I don't get it, and who imprisoned her in the begining? and why did Ishamael die after calling on the dark one to help him? After alll why would Shait'aan leave Ishamael to die? he is his greatest servent. Ups! I spoke the dark one's name!  how is it that he died, and it's strange that before dieing his body was split in 2. Does someone know what's going on in that scene?

Re: A bit of a bind

It take currage to ask for help, I  think from what you said that this was the hardest part, not just the finanshial  problems. But asking for help sometimes can be harder then anything. I admire that to a person, you clearly see when you need it and when you don't. It's not for any post count as you said, it is for you alone. We suport you. I for one do.

such a shame for the human race.so sad I heard great things about some members of their race.for example in my travels to the qwogridian gualdron star, I notice that one of the shgrrah'ly  had with them a book, it was one of those ancient artefacts made of some material use by those humans that you guys continnue to mention. The material , ? I don't even know it's name. The book was by some one named Arthur Schoponarere, or ssupenmaler, or something. I can't remember, but quite intresting person that was . I don't even know how much time passed since that book was even found. It's a strange thing that we can even find such things, paranoramal even, I would dare to say.now, I am tryoing to use the new brain pod version to argument the dream weaving quality of the dream skape which was generated  during a malformation of reallity/quantum brige who was mulecularyly made to project dream reallityes based on previous lifes that might have been integrated within space continnuem. the brain pods are really the wayto go.@dark sent you a brain message, please enter your brain folder in order to access missing thought angles or signals. Re: Monthly Chat October 2020

III. BABET, GUEULEMER, CLAQUESOUS, AND MONTPARNASSEA QUARTET OF crooks, Claquesous, Gueulemer, Babet, and Montparnasse, ruled the dregs of Paris from 1830 to 1835.Gueulemer was a lowlife Hercules. His hideout was the Arche-Marion sewer. He was six feet tall, had pectorals of marble, biceps of bronze, cavernous lungs, the torso of a colossus, and the skull of a bird. You would think you were looking at the Farnese Hercules1 decked out in drill trousers and a velveteen jacket. Built along such sculptural lines, Gueulemer could have broken monsters; he had found it easier to become one. With a low forehead, broad temples, a mass of crow’s-feet though not yet forty years old, wiry short hair, bushy cheeks, the beard of a wild boar—you can see the man from here. His muscles cried out for work, his stupidity wouldn’t hear of it. He was a huge lazy force. He was a killer out of nonchalance. He was thought to be a Creole.2 He had probably had a bit of a brush with Maréchal Brune3 at one time, having done a stint as a porter in Avignon in 1815. After that lesson, he moved up in the world and graduated as a crook.Babet’s diaphanousness was in stark contrast to Gueulemer’s meatiness. Babet was skinny and smart. He was transparent, yet impenetrable. You could see daylight through his bones, but nothing in his eyes. He claimed to be a chemist. He had been a buffoon at Bobèche’s and a clown at Bobino’s.4 He had played vaudeville at Saint-Mihiel. He was a man full of hot air, a good talker who put his smiles in italics and his gestures in inverted commas. His business was selling plaster busts and portraits of “the head of state” out on the street. On top of this, he pulled teeth. He had shown freaks at fairs and owned a booth with a trumpet and this advertisement: “Babet, dental artist, member of the academies, conducts physical experiments on metals and metalloids, extracts teeth, tackles stumps abandoned by his colleagues. Price: one tooth, one franc fifty centimes; two teeth, two francs; three teeth, two francs fifty centimes. Take advantage of this opportunity.” (That “Take advantage of this opportunity” meant: Get as many pulled out as possible.) He had been married and he had had children. He did not know what had become of his wife or his children. He had lost them the way you lose your hankie. A noteworthy exception in the obscure world he lived in, Babet read the newspapers. Once, in the days when he had his family travelling with him in his booth-on-wheels, he had read in the Messager that a woman had given birth to a child with the muzzle of a calf who was likely to survive, and he had cried: “That’s worth a fortune! Why can’t my wife have the wit to give me a child like that!”Since then he had left everything to “tackle” Paris. His words. What was Claquesous? He was night. He would wait till the sky had painted itself black before showing himself, crawling out from some hole after dark and crawling back into it again before daybreak. Where was this hole? Nobody knew. When it was pitch black, he would speak, though only to his accomplices and only with his back turned. Was his name really Claquesous? No. He would say: “My name is Not-at-all.” If a candle appeared, he slapped on a mask. He was a ventriloquist. Babet would say: “Claquesous is a night bird with two calls.” Claquesous was blurry, restless, terrible. You couldn’t be sure he had a name, Claquesous being only a nickname meaning blow-your-dough; you couldn’t be sure he had a voice, his stomach having more to say than his mouth; you couldn’t be sure he had a face, nobody having seen anything but his mask. He would vanish like an apparition and then reappear as though popping up out of the ground.A lugubrious creature, that was Montparnasse. Montparnasse was a mere boy, less than twenty years old, with a pretty face, lips like cherries, lustrous black hair, the brightness of spring in his eyes; he had all the vices and aspired to all the crimes. Digesting what was bad gave him a craving for what was worse. He was the street kid turned lout and the lout turned killer. He was cute, effeminate, graceful, wiry, lethargic, cruel. He wore his hat turned up on the left to make room for a tuft of hair in the vogue of 1829. He lived off armed robbery. His redingote was of the best cut, but worn. Montparnasse was a fashion plate who had fallen on hard times, living in misery and committing murder and mayhem. The cause of all of this adolescent’s assaults was the desire to look slick and expensive. The first hussy who had said to him, “You’re easy on the eye,” had flung the stain of darkness into his heart and turned this Abel into a Cain.5 Finding himself pretty, he had wanted to be elegant, and, well, the first form elegance takes is idleness; and the idleness of a pauper means crime. Few prowlers were as feared as Montparnasse. At eighteen, he already had several corpses to his name. More than one passerby, with their arms
