For fishing, why not go with a net and basic grab and catch model, rather  than trying to replicate angling. That way you could essentially have fishing work the same way animal hunting does, with the main character on a water grid swinging a net to catch fish, instead of on a land grid swinging a sword/club/insert implement to deal with meat animals. You could even have crocodiles or hippopotamuses or other nasty water dwelling jungle creatures, which might require the player to switch to a convenient weapon and do in, before taking up their fishing net again. Oh and yes, hippopotami apparently are! really dangerous, indeed I remember reading somewhere that they regularly kill more people than either lions or crocodiles in some parts of Africa.

great update. Would it be possible to have some sort of item buffer? Sometimes when I'm walking I collect something, but my arrow keys interrupt NVDA. Also love the idea of hide armor. And how about animals like goats or deer since people don't only hunt carnivores? Just throwing ideas out there. Great job with the game.

Hi guys,So starting as of 1.3, this game will no longer be 2D, it will be 3D. You will now be able to climb trees, as well as cut them down for wood and branches. Also, I'd like to say that thanks to Amerikranian's helpful advice, we now have a pretty nice bug-free jumping system. And thanks to Sam Tupy, we now have a basic 3D version of Battle of the Hunter which utilizes his 3D SoundPool class.I will be releasing this version in a few days, I just have to work out some small bugs first and then we'll be good to go.I hope this news is good to all of you,a nd if it is not, that is all right.

Once the health system for the fires is implemented, the fires will eventually die out, and then you can put them somewhere else.Also, I've released a small little version, 1.2.1, that fixes an issue where your binoculars could go into the negative y. It is an optional update, but its recommended.

I figured that out by accident. It seems the Read me is still from version 1.0, at least if you use the auto updater. Is there a way to move the fire once you've placed it, or are you stuck with that location forever if you don't want to totally wipe everything out?

I think that most of the crafting shop stuff should cost a lot more resources than it does maybe klike, 10 times as much. As it is you can play for like 5 minutes grabbing items and make almost everything there is to make which makes the long term feeling of the shop kind of sad. Some other items ideas:Skinning knife: costs 8 metal. If you can make animals generate corpses on death you can make it so that you can skin the animals to get hides which will let you make:Hide Armor: Stitch together several hides to make a piece of hide armor that will absorb some amount of damage from an animal attack. It wouldn't be complete protection from the attack. After the armor takes too much damage it is destroyed so you have to make more.Skinning knives have a chance to break each time you attempt to skin an animal.Trap: Since the animals move in a very predictable way, you could craft traps on a square using some rope, which could be made by combining 15-20 grass into a rope, and some wood for a sort of stake, and maybe metal for a blade if you want it to do dmg. At least it could pin the animal in place for a few seconds maybe?Arrows: Your bow seems to have unlimited ammunition right now so it is obvious that we need to be able to make arrows. If you were to use the arrows on a fire, it could make fire arrows, that do less damage but cause some residual damage over time effect on animals it hits.Shovel: costs 12 metal. Use this to dig for rocks during downtimes. You can throw rocks at animals to do some damage to them

omgomgomgomgomg guys! stw had footstep sounds... from... swamp... oh no wait, they're from sfx kit, because that's where a lot of audio games get there sounds from. And don't even get me started on the menu music, it has... orchestral... pack... in it... such horrible terrible crimes! purge it! purge it now! No, I don't care that there's a pretty good chance that those sounds were acquired legally and no I don't care that 99% of the audio games produced these days have similar sounds flush the whole thing down the toilet now now now!

ok, well, in the project I'm working on, they are all either designed by our sound designers and audio engineers, or taken from free packs such as defender's collection.And this is one of the reasons why I don't release projects that often with sounds in them, because of the massive contraversy out of where I got them from. I'm a little susspicious about that crossbow sound though. I think I heard it in a game, but cannot remember what.Drama was not my intention.

This is a great game. Slightly confused about something though. I thought that you were able to put the fire wherever you wanted, but it's made in the craft shop. Is this a plan for a future version? Also looking forward to arrows and bullets running out eventually. Might you b able to add pain sounds for the animals at some point? sometimes I can't tell if I've hit them or not if I'm using the bow. Maybe I'm missing something? Keep up the great work.

So you assume just because I did not mention who the individuals that gave me the sounds were, means that I simply stole the sounds?That is rather irrational of you. This is simply asking for drama. The people that gave me the sounds know that Ii am using them. Some of them were my private testers. And remember,  there is a credits.txt file in the game that explains where I got most of the sounds from. There is no need to get all investigational about where I got the sounds, because I put the credits.txt file in there that explains where I got 99 percent of my sounds from.

@108 i agree, he's almost acting like he, like, made all the sounds for this game and no credit was given. And last time i  checked he didn' really do anything of editing, or make games with sounds to begin with, hmm. and @109 you can see where they are with a, and you can try to move away while ligning up shots, if its x is the same it just walks straight towards you on the y. the only issue is that they do walk in constant straight ligns towards you, so they are predictable, but i like that sens eyou can predict where something is going to go by  that. You can lign up shots and just go, rat tat tat with the revolver or the silent little bow, or go slicey dicey with your sword, you get where i'm going here.

@tunmi13, I am liking the sound of the 1.2 changes and look forward to seeing the releasee, in particular, those ammo options will change the game up a bit I think, since at the moment the revolve is too destructive. Also I like the idea of being able to build renewable resources with what we gather in the wild, and maybe later buildings too. One idea to solve the difficulty problem, might be to either increase animal spawn rate, or have players choose to venture into different areas with different levels of challenge or to get more items. I don't mean extra exits on the map or the like, I just mean when you begin the game you can decide which area to play in, for example, maybe there could be a swamp map with higher animal spawn rate (plus maybe nastier animals like alligators and snakes), but which has herbs to gather needed for healing items. Or perhaps there could be a planes map, with more lions and grass but less wood, or maybe a rainforest map with lots of wood, and fewer animals, but you get thirstier quicker.Either way, looking forard tI still seem to have 1.1 at the moment, so I take it 1.2 is in the pipe line, but keep it going, this game is still great and has awesome potential.

There's a slight bug there. I noticed it last night when I wondered why my flask wasn't working even though I knew there was water in it. You can't drink from the flask if either of your coordinates is 100. In other words, if you're anywhere at the top edge of the map or the right edge of the map, the flask will not work. Obviously if you're at the top right corner, you drink directly from the spring.

For those wondering how to get meat from dead animals:When you kill an animal, you automatically start carrying it, or at least its raw meat, effectively. To cook the meat so you can eat it, you must have the cooking fire crafted. In version 1.1 or below, go to 0, -10, the bottom left corner of the safe zone, where you hear the fire crackling. Hit left alt to bring up the cooking menu, and select an animal to cook. Do this until you've cooked everything or you hit Escape to exit. Now you have cooked meat which you can eat.Hope this helps.

I tried to make it a challenge by having lots of animals around the map, but I received several complaints that it was too hard, and animals moved too fast. I can definitely go back to doing this as well as increasing resources, but there will be some unhappy campers. Of course that is to be expected anyways, but I'm hearing a lot of mixed talk. Some people want a challenge, and some people just want to survive. Kind of hard to choose a side.And @isuck, if you had read my version 1.2 post, you might of saw what was in store.

i think being able to craft from anywhere within the game isnt good. it makes it too easy. the reason why i think the map should be bigger is so you can explore it. right now apart from the river there's nothing. i mean the river isn't really a feature of the map it's just there for the sake of survival if that makes sense. if you can craft a fire which then turns into the sz anywhere in the game now then you can effectively camp out near the river and you wouldn't have a reason to go anywhere. with the likes of the short sword which i like to use, it's pretty easy to kill animals and then run back cook stuff whilst topping off your health. the game is good, but it needs more of a challenge. more things to craft, more reasons to use the map if that makes sense?keep up the good work though because the game itself is good.

i can agree. especially the metal resource, as i had enough metal to craft everything even in the latest version and still had 12 left, and i only found one peace. maybe make it so that you have the bow, and then you have the crossbow that you had to make arrow for as well, and bullets for the revolver. IDK, if you had enough metal to make a revolver, you should at least be able to scrounge som eleft to make a few bullets for it, would just make more logical sense to me. Arrows would also make more sense to be crafted maybe for the bow as well, because your around all that wood and you can use string to hold it together or something?

Hi,Making the map bigger means I'll have to re-decrease the spawn time of the animals so that they spawn in more numbers. I am not sure if would be such a good idea, since in version 1.0, people were reporting that the animals spawned too fast, and I slowed it down by about 30 seconds. But I mean, if you guys are willing to have more animals coming at you on a bigger map, such as a 200x200y map instead of the 100 it is right now, I can definitely increase the spawning.Also, @Manamaon_Player, I will check out the binoculars and see what's going on. I'm guessing its only a problem that you have because no one else has reported it yet. But I will investigate anyways and see what the issue is.

I have a few suggestions for the future.1. I haven't crafted the binoculars yet, but that's the only item I don't have. Unless I'm missing something, once I craft them, there's no further use for any of the resources I still have. To avoid this situation where you have no motivation to gather resources, possibly have a system where every time an item is used, there's a small chance it will break. The chance of breakage is higher if the item has been around for a while or is heavily used. When something breaks, you lose the item entirely, possibly salvaging some of the resources that were used to craft it. At that point, you no longer have the item, but can craft it again if you have the necessary resources.2. Someone mentioned a storage shed for keeping food across deaths. I think that's a great idea. But everything has its price. First, of course you need resources to craft it. Also, every once in a while, especially if you're near or in your shed, there's a chance that animals will attack the shed. If they do, they may steal some or all of the food you have stored there, and in severe cases they might destroy the shed entirely. Also, if the shed is near the cooking fire, there's a small chance a stray spark from the fire could hit the shed, setting it on fire, damaging or destroying it. If the shed is destroyed, you lose everything stored there, and again, you might be able to salvage some of the resources. You can craft another one if you have enough resources.

Not sure if this has been reported but here is another bug I'm sorry to say.  It looks like you can put the game in to an unstartable state.  I was playing for the first time just exploring and died of thirst.  Now when I start a new game, I instantly die of thirst.Otherwise loved what I was able to play so far, especially the crafting as it gives the player something to look forward to and a reason to play more.

The weapon system is based on how big the animal is. An animal's size will affect how much range on the x axis your weapon can fire at it. For example, sicn the lion is 5 squares wide, say the lion is at 0 x. if you are at 3x, you can still hit it, because you are within the range of its size.Also, to clarify. When you create the cooking fire, it will spawn at 0, -10, in the safe zone. However, I'm planning for this in the future to be placed whereever you want it to be. This will allow you to camp like places near the spring, or other areas on the map. I am still trying to fix bugs, so features will not be coming immediately. I still need to fix some sound glitching issues, so these suggestions will probably on hold. Also, keep in mind since this is my project, I might not get to all suggestions that have been brought forth.Thanks.

@musicalman, I could be wrong, but as far as I've determined yes, when you swing your weapon, any animals in that weapon's range get hit no matter where they are. Indeed, since the animals have a much smaller zone of attack than you do, it's relatively easy to deal with animals even with the club which does the least amount of damage.I'm not entirely sure what the ranges are, the bow and revolver seem to have the most, followed by the longsword, and the club and short sword have the least, though still larger than the animal's attack range. Damage wise, the bow and club seems to do least damage, and  the revolver and longsword the most, indeed the  revolver is a little too devastating as I said.The way that meat works, is first you need to get enough resources to craft the fire. At this point it'll be down at minus ten zero in the bottom left of the map. Once you go down there and hit alt you'll be in the cooking menu and be asked what you want to cook, dead bear, dead lion or dead wolf. Each animal you kill will provide one dead animal to cook, and cooking them provides I believe 50 meet which you can eat with the d key, indeed you will get waay more meet than you actually need.@NightCraller302, I'd be interested to know myself if there is a more efficient way of getting downloads to work when windows defender objects to them than actually having to disable real time protection, since that's a clunky way around. The alert in chrome however doesn't give me any options, and when I look at windows defender's own notifications, there are just the usual options for a quarantined threat. I remember windows explorer used to give you a popup and an "are you sure you want to download this" type of message, but it seems chrome doesn't do that.

@53, Trees aren't spawning at all right now do to a bug that the dev already knows about, but the items could do with some spawning speed up.@Dark, Thanks for the info on how to add exclusions in windows defender. I've just been telling it to restore them, but that only works temporarily.@tunmi13, We definitely don't need a clippy arrow hit sound, but I would like to be able to hear that that I've hit an animal with my arrow, and with the fact that you have players starting with random amounts of health, hunger, and thirst, and a coming fire that you have to keep going, I'd recommend either having either the fruit or the dead animals that you haven't cooked yet save across games or both if the player's built something like a storage shed, but at least one of them saving preferably a dead animal from the beginning saving like the resources do from the beginning. I look forward to playing the next update, and I'm not saying to make things to easy, I'm just saying you want to have a way that players can quickly get there hunger down if they spawn with it at say 96 percent with the rate that you have hunger and thirst going up.

Okay I finally built the binoculars, since I was waiting around for enough metal to spawn, this means I@ve built everything. One thing about the binoculars though, they are useless! By the time you've panned one single cell around at a time looking for the dam animal, it's probably already reached you and munched you, and you'd probably have been better just standing still, listening and shooting or swinging your weapon like crazy as per usual. It would be better if the binoculars did something a bit more useful, such as give you positional information of an animal when you hit the A key, indeed since you don't need to aim, binoculars aren't much use anyway. Perhaps in future a hiding and sniping mechanic could be introduced, whereby you could be still and get greater range on your weapons like some of the guns in swamp, but as it is, the game really is too fast action for such a slow overview tool to be of any real use, especially given how effective several of the weapons are.

One thing I think ought to be craftable is some sort of water bottle/can/jug/etc. Imho it's annoying to have to go all the way to 100,100 when I'm thirsty.

Unfortunately, the bow's rate of fire is very slow, so your best bet with the bow, and indeed with most weapons is hit and run. usually, I wait to hear the animal, start swinging with a weapon and then take a few steps ninety degrees away from where the animal is coming from, EG I go left if it's coming down. Actually, if you stand still, swing and dodge you can kill animals quite successfully, using most weapons, the times I found I most often got hit was when runing after items, since running in a straight line automatically puts you in an animal's range, indeed when going for an item, if you hear an animal, I recommend stoppig and dealing with it first, the item won't be going anywhere. of course, I don't know what Tunmi has planned in terms of other weapon types, but it'll be interesting to find out.Okay, the virus flag preventing downloads thing is a BGT issue, it doesn't occur with all BGT programs, (crazy party downloads fine for me), but it does occur with some, why I am not sure, indeed I did once ask philip Bennifall to at least contact Microsoft and point out the BGT scripting language was not associated with viruses, but he doesn't seem to which is irritating. Fortunately it is possible to get around.First, if you haven't already done so, create an exceptions folder in windows defender. to do this: 1: Open window's defender's antivirus. You can find this in control panel, or more easily by right clicking on the "actions needed" button on the taskbar and selecting "security dashboard." 2: once in widows defender hit down arrow and find "antivirus protection", then tab around until you find "manage settings", within settings tab to "add exclusions." 3: tab to the "add exclusion" button and hit enter. You'll then be asked if you want to add a file or folder. 4: Go to "add folder", then just find the folder in the standard open dialogue as in any windows program. I recommend creating a specific folder on your hd for gams, (I have one called audiogames", you might also want to add the downloads folder to stop Windows defender deleting stuff upon download. That will give you a safe place to run BGT programs. Now,  to those occasions when windows Defender balks at a download, like this one.Theoretically, there should be a way to enable the download after the alert pops up, or tell windows defender to go ahead with the download anyway, unfortunately, if there is I haven't found it yet, even looking at the scan history and downloads area in chrome. Fortunately there is a simple way around. go to "antivirus protection", and then "manage settings" as described in step 2 of the above instructions. You'll find a box saying "real time protection", toggle that to disabled, and vuala! no more objections to downloads. I'd recommend turning it back on once you've downloaded the game. The other bit of good news, is that as long as you allow the ap through the firewall, getting updates directly in the game should be okay as well. Why this happens I don't know, and I really wish there was a better way around, but at least this should hopefully make it possible for people to play the game. I'm personally very much looking forward to the updates.
