Re: Audio editing softwares for windows

Here is an example of me using both Reaper and Goldwave to get the result I want. I used Reaper to do all the effects and record the sound they were applied to. I then rendered that out, with more of a tail than I thought I would need, brought it into Goldwave, trimmed it, and put a fade in on the start so it wasn't so harsh.

The thing regarding the mic is a touch unrealistic. You really do need a good environment, otherwise you sacrifice too much of the quality of the recording.

Osara is a must have, and you would do well to grab SWS if you want extended functionality that'll make your life easier overall, such as the ability to quickly import files from any location on your PC on the fly.

Re: Audio editing softwares for windows

Well, there is now a series called Ten typical tasks with Scott which describes the keystrokes and the workflow of editing audio in reaper, splitting and removing, how tracks and items work, adding FX etc in less than an hour. With that set of tutorials at hand and the CAVI courses being free to download for everyone, I wouldn't say that REAPER's learning curve is something to worry if you're just planning to do simple goldwave-like audio editing. As soon as you're going to compose music or anything, you'll have to dig a bit deeper i'm afraid, but then again even that is no problem, the basics of that have been covered in Scot's tutorials as well.

Re: Audio editing softwares for windows

I tried Reaper, but it was kinda confusing for me. It was looong ago though. And I heard you need a bit to make it accessible. May be that's part of why it's so confusing. I just wanna mess around with audio stuff and see how I can adjust it and such. Audacity and Goldwave have been what I'm familiar with for quite a while. I just look for anything else I can try so I have enough options in case one or both programs don't work with whatever certain situations where advance editing is required. And another question guys, I may not be able to go to the studio all the time. If possible, I'd love to be able to record anywhere even in a room with loud ambience. I don't have much space to buy big ass microphone with bulky speakers. I prefer it USB with as much noise cancelling as possible so I can record on the go. It doesn't have to filter every bit of the noise. I know that kinda mic is nearly impossible to find if there's any at all. But at least, if it cancels much of the major background so my voice is heard clear enough, that gotta do.

Re: Audio editing softwares for windows

@8, as I understand it, you also have to make well over $15000 yearly from such sales in order to really, really be frowned down upon by reaper devs.  It's not like they're just out to nickel and dime people.@10, Agreed with you 100 percent.  I wouldn't recommend reaper to someone unless I personally felt they had the passion for audioproduction and sound design.  Even in that latter case I'd probably suggest they learn something like Goldwave first, as reaper is more than just audio editing software... Much, much more.

Re: Audio editing softwares for windows

I actually wouldn't recommend Reaper for general day to day editing unless you already know it well. Yes, the feature set is immense, but the time sink to learn it is as quite daunting. So, unless you're ready to bump up your audio production to the next level, you'll probably get scared off by reaper and never want to touch it again.

Re: Audio editing softwares for windows

Basically, what you get is a license file which allows you the usage of this REAPER version and the next one, so for example all version 6 versions of REAPER plus version 7, which will guarantee you usage for at least 5 years, probably even more. Just remember that you need to buy a commercial license if you're planning to sell your products you create with REAPER, but even this license costs only about $250, which still is nothing compared to all other DAWs out there.

The satisfaction of knowing that you're supporting accessible, studio professional software for a cheap price in comparison to other alternatives?  I believe Audition is now subscription based to some extent or another, and it's not accessible.

Re: Audio editing softwares for windows

The audio swiss knife which is accessible and can do everything from sound designing to music production is REAPER, and it won't be replaced soon I guess. You also don't need to pay for it, although paying the 50 bucks for basically almost lifetime access is deffinitely worth it.

wave pad is old, and paid.sound forge10 is paid.audacity is totally free, and i made a lot with it, including a bit of sound designingwell, you could use gold wave, reaper, audacity or if you have the money sound forge or something like that. i dont recome you to use wave pad even if it's more easier to use than audacity, but for me audacity it's much better than wave pad. some goldwave things are a bit better than those on audacity, but i prefer audacity with a loot of plugins. i can also censor easily
