As for examples of mainstream games using  the same sounds, look at GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas. Pretty much all the sounds, footsteps, vehicles, police sirens, etc are the same minus character voices. Even GTA 4 and 5 have some of the same sounds. and speaking of sound design, I'm bored and don't have clients these days because of the virus, so if any of you need anything... Let me know.

Re: Same sickenning sounds

@5 makes a very good point. But interestingly, if you actually listen to them, those sounds are actually not the same ones, just similar. That anime slash sound which I love so much has been done a million different ways in a million different anime and games. But they are still recognizable as that specific slash effect with unique spins and differences, they aren't copy pasted. Either they are from different libraries, or sound designers take an existing sound and modify it enough to where it becomes a new thing. But while using similar sounds itself isn't an issue in those games, I think the reason is because there are a ton of other things to set those games apart from one another. In most of the audio games that use similar sounds, the gameplay is also not drastically different or original. Just sayin'.

@25I wouldn’t call reaper in accessible if osara is in the mix. Osara is the reason why so many people use the thing. With osara, there is quite a lot of potential if you’re willing to just sit down and learn reaper. Takes a little wile, still learning myself, but it's worth it because unlike gold wave, it's vst support is good enough to do more then Basic stuff with, which means, a lot now adays, especially with the sorts of things I do.And Rory, I must ask. You have been on the forum for quite some time. How could you not have heard at least mentions of these three programs. And if you have, in passing, why have you not at least made an effort to learn more about them and how they can benefit you?

Still can't use it full-time... but I'm getting somewhere ish. Anyway, I have yet to see an unlabeled control or the need for a workaround when doing bog standard editing or processing. It's as accessible as it can get, so far as I can tell. There are a few advanced things which I fight with and I think they need improvement, but nothing huge for me anyway. I'm not trying to say you're wrong about unlabeled controls and workarounds though, since I could well have missed them. Re: Same sickenning sounds

An idiot has it right, it's a combination of fear and laziness.  Despite what people may tell you, learning how to do basic audio editing is not difficult and you don't need anyone to do it for you unless your planning on making a premium (probably paid) title. That list in the dev room was made for a reason, and expecting some originality when we don't have the luxury of relying on visuals to make games feel different seems reasonable to me.You spend a month or more coding a game, but you can't spend a few days finding sounds for it?  I don't buy it.  Finish the job before release if you want your game to be remembered. After all if you made the choice  to create the type of game that should have decent sounds, it's called an audio game for a reason, then don't complain when people are disappointed by an unfinished project unless they're being total jerks about it.

Re: Same sickenning sounds

Will the sound designers ask money for the sounds? the big thing for me is that i don't reelly want to pay for sounds at the moment since i don't earn an income yet. So i try to stick to the free sounds, tho not all of them are so good.

Re: Same sickenning sounds

4, very true. Heck, people sometimes don't care. Let me give you an example. Are there sound designers in this comunity? Maybee not many, but yeah. So, could they ask for help? again, yes. But why don't they? I mean, part of a good game is not just the game itself, sound; especially in audio games, but not limited too, is a big percent. Good sound  or graphics, can either make or break;a game, its not just the coding aspect. I mean, coding is hard, I get that; but so is sound design. One can put the same sounds which; let's face it; gets old really quickly, or... one can just ask for help with sound, but I digress. Laziness is a big factor though for sure I think.@6, some people do have said knowledge, myself beeing one. Not the first gunshot i've recorded or sound. I mean, if you have resources... use them... True about the gear though. I have gear myself, but not everyone does. That, plus the gear tends to be... pricy, so yeah. However i'm sure i'm not the only sound designer out here that if asked would offer a helping hand. You loose nothing by reaching out, that's all i'm saying.

Re: Same sickenning sounds

gotta  agree with post 2 here,  using the same sounds doesn't mean really they're stolen, but also i rialised    2 that there is a huge  list  of  options    for sound designers out there to use without the need  for  third parti librarys, but also if you have the money you mite be interested in a few small librarys that helps you out on your production, at post 5  when it comes to  rrecordding  a  number of sounds yyou'll need a gear and someone experienced  on  sound design to record gun shots and then  produce them.  and i don't think any one has the knowledge  or will pay for someone to record them and redesign them  for an audio game.

Re: Same sickenning sounds

A lot of capcom fighting games from different series use the same sounds and no one complains. Many games and anime in the mainstream also use the same sounds it's almost like they are a language unto themselves that when you hear someone get slashed, that dramatic squeal of steel slicing through flesh is recognizable from across the room and I quite like it.But yes, there has to be moderation, especially in audiogames, because we do not have the luxury of graphics to set a game apart, so there has to be enough new and different sounds to distinguish one game from another. As a wacky challenge, I would like to play an action game where someone makes the sound effects themselves, with just their body and a mic. I remember during a presentation at u universal studios where a whole bunch of such sounds where someone was imitating helicopters, gun shots and explosions were all stored in a machine and used for an on the spot scene. It was pretty weird, but that always stuck out to me as something unique as I never witnessed it replicated again.

Re: Same sickenning sounds

People are just plain lazy when it comes to finding sounds if you ask me. I have seen so many people that don't even try to look. It's not that hard if you would just crack open some of the sights, such as zapsplat listed in the topic in the dev room. It really, really isn't. Here’s what you have to do. Search a few very basic keywords into a search field, press the enter key, tab around and listen to a few sounds, and download the one you want. Granted, if your like me, and you need a shit tun of sounds in bulk, things can take a little while. But still. It’s not that hard. That’s all. And most of the sounds taken from games are from payed libraries so technically, they are stolen. The it’s too hard to fine sounds naritive just doesn’t hold up. Not today anyway. And the people who made that list put a lot of hard work into it, just so people wouldn't use it?

Re: Same sickenning sounds

i agreee with 2. Just because someone uses a sound found in another game,  doesn't mean them and a hole bunch of his friends either sat down with a key guesser and decript the sound storage, or looked through the sounds they already had through other means of obtaining them and said, lets use these sounds because fuck it, we can! There is a chance they were bought, or found in the 400 gig sound folder, or what have you.

Re: Same sickenning sounds

yeah, well, coding is hard enough, if it's an actual good game, I see no problem with using a few stolen sounds, but generally I try to be as legal and different as possible. Take this into account though. Just because they are the same, does not mean they are stolen.
