I found it quite impressing, especially the title music, which sounds quite spooky!I first thought you produced the vocal with some sort of VST, Synthesizer or other useful toys, but pushed this thought asside. I know how synthetic vocals usually sound, but it perfectly fits into the instrumental. However, you need to find/know such people, because in my opinion, it sounds very professional. She must be, or at least must have been in a choir once! Anyway, I cannot hear the footsteps. Theyre either a bit quiet, dont play properly for me, or dont exist. As a suggestion, is there a way to vary the footsteps in different areas in the game? Are you using Wwise? You have good navigational cues, like the animal sounds and the papers, but perhaps if there was a muddy, snowy or swampy area in the game, the player could have a little more navigational information. And it sounded like the animal sounds were randomized by time and distance, though I could be wrong. Perhaps, you could add some specific static animal sounds for additional location cues, or creaking trees, a faraway generator, a buzzing transformer box, etc. Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to any updates and new games you make! Using the mouse, I get a better feeling of the north tone and when facing south it is at a lower volume than when facing north.But this takes trial and error in listening carefully and then quickly spinning around.I prefer a one key talking compass that tells you exactly which direction you are facing. Ive played it a few times and am getting better in finding the notes, but not in getting away from the slender.I have not yet heard the car. Sounds bouncing off the tree trunk told me when a tree was near.People complained in early versions of Shades of Doom that you didnt detect walls until you hit them. David put in a different footstep sound along the edge to warn you of the wall being near.This gave you time to change direction or stop. When I read your explanation about how the title music originated, I was like: What the heck? I thought these choir like vocals were synthetic. Thats why I found them so incredibly impressive! I was just about to ask him where he got that incredible sound bank, cause if I had a bank like this, music composition would be my primary and only job and I would probably be quite rich by now. :-DSeriously though, that theme is totally perfect for the atmosphere of the game. Ive played it only once briefly so far as I am pretty low on time at the moment, but I have to say I loved the game. The sound quality and thus the immersion and the scary feeling it provides are still pretty rare among audiogames. And I think youve also remade the game pretty closely to the sighted original. Though I think you should cut the map up into different quadrants like maybe a 9 by 9 grid, and allow only one page to spawn in per quadrant. I was picking up pages that spawned right next to eachother it seemed. I got to 6 pages on my first try. Im definitely making a recording of this. Scared me a lot. at the end though he popped up right in front of me, couldnt run fast enough haha. Also think maybe the trees should blow in the wind a little as well. All in all though, Id say it keeps itself true to the game and does a really good job of maintaining the scare factor. The original game doesnt give you any kidn of information, however since its a slightly different deal, and its hard to play using just sound, I thought explanation had to be done. Plus, most here do not know of the slenderman.The reason why the page distance is so hard to determin is because the forest is quite huge. However, reducing the distance of the pages will make it different to hear them if youer running from Slender. he can get quite noisy, plus the atmosphere in the background. If it wasnt you would have problems finding the page, as the forest is rather large. Also who in their right mind wanders into an unknown forest without bringing a weapon along, or at least a phone?
