I have seen about two or three IF's with sounds. I think you're not missing much with an interpreter that doesn't support sounds.

Re: interactive fiction game, inside woman, anyone beat it?

Ah man, i remember this game. Unfortunately, I did have to resort to a guide half way through. The puzzles and ordering of events just got a bit insane to not cosmically screw up tot he point of reloading an older save farther back. And some puzzle solutions aren't quite obvious, unless you are aware of how certain scientific concepts work. If you want a field test for trying this game out, try the Crusader game made by the same author. The difficulty of the puzzles are about the same, but this one is much shorter. Though should still take a good day or two if you don't know the solutions quickly for every puzzle.that, or you're like me, and want to discover every way to massively fail for the game overs. After beating a game, i tend to do that due to some of the events leading to one's demise.hell, for this game in particular, there's an epic game over only possible if you're aware of another puzzle much later in the game.*** You have made the game unwinnable ***

Re: interactive fiction game, inside woman, anyone beat it?

Yes, you could use WinFrotz for this, but every Z-Code interpreter works. I've recently switched from classic interpreters like WinFrotz or Filfre (where you have to use object nav or the Jaws cursor) to Lectrote. Lectrote combines all the most important interpreters (for Z-Code in all versions, Glulx and Hugo etc.) in one single program. It opens in a browser window, so you can use your screen readers web commands to navigate easily.Inside Woman is a spy/dystopian story set in a huge city which is located completely indoors. The chinese send in a spy to check out what thei're doing inside and what the research department is working on. This is an Andy Philips game, and Philips is known for huge games with painfully hard puzzles. I love big puzzlers in Interactive Fiction, but if that's not your thing and story is more important than puzzles for you, then I would pick something else.If you want to test out Lectrote, it's open-source and can be downloaded from Github hereInside Woman is on the Interactive Fiction Database, hereI hope that helps you and is not too verbose. I just don't know how familiar you are already with IF

Re: interactive fiction game, inside woman, anyone beat it?

No, they don't control different letters, at least not the way you think. There are two lines which are, in the beginning, identical. The first line will never change, that's the encrypted version and will stay that way. The second line is, as I said, the same in the beginning, but this line you can actually change and get a English text out of it. The two spinners are used as follows: One of them (sorry I can't remember which one) selects a letter you want to change. The other changes that letter. For example, let's assume you have found out that the last word is worm, but the line says xast instead of worm. Now, you must turn one spinner to x (to select it) and the other to w (to replace it). Next, the program will replace all letters x in the text with the letter w. Your word at the end now reads wast. Next, you would set one spinner to a and the other to o. Every a will now be replaced by o and the last word will read wost. Now, replace s with r like before and finally, swap t with m. Finally, the last word actually reads worm. But you have not just written the word worm correctly, no, you have also changed every x to w, every a to o and so on. That means you can be sure that whenever there appears the letter o in the text, this o must be correct. And that's how you work out the unknown words.

It's Parser Interactive Fiction. Have you played parser IF before? If yes, you can just look for it on the Interactive Fiction Database. If not, I can give clearer instructions about how to set it up and how to play it if you want.

Re: interactive fiction game, inside woman, anyone beat it?

Oh, one of my favorite IF games. Hints from vague to explicit:Hint 1: Has the student told you anything about who is attacking his program?Hint 2: How could this information be used to crack the encryption?Hint 3: Pay attention to the - sign in the message.Hint 4: The minus sign is not encrypted, it's the same in both messages. So what could it mean?Hint 5: After the minus sign, the attacker signs with their name.Solution: Decrypt the last part, after the minus, so that it spells "Ivory Worm". Then you should have enough letters right to crack other unknown words in the text. For example, you could decrypt easy, small words like "the", "a" and so on and the message should become clearer and clearer.
