There are people with Cabo attached to their last name in the Ribeira
Grande area, which includes the parish of Conceicao, Sao Pedro and the
matriz of NS da Estrela.

The word cabo , as is written there, might suggest he was cabo (corporal)

 Well, just a thought...

There is no NS Conceicao Church in Norta Grande which is why I said Rebeira
Grande. I also thought it could be Jose da Ponte Costa but the ink is too
smudged to be sure and as such think it also could be Cabo. This is why I
suggest looking at any Baptisms for any children to verify.

 Hi Sherry,
I did some reading and I think I got something.
But, as always,  subject to appreciation of other people
 more versed in such  documents.
 Basic facts:
Marriage  17 August 1835 , Church Senhora da Conceição,
 Villa de ...?... (Norte?) Grande.
Francisco José Pacheco fo. de João Jacinto Pacheco e de Maria Escolastica,
com Vitoria Querubina fa. de José da Ponte ...?... e de Rosa Jacinta.
If you need I can write down the full document in Portuguese.

I found my ggg-grandparents marriage record today from 1835. I was so excited
until I couldn't read some of the names. I was wondering if some of the
wonderful people on this list could help me out with the names that I can't
 read.

I have attached the part of the marriage record where it lists the groom
his parents, then the bride her parents and I also attached the whole
document in case that will help with the reading the writing. What I think I
 see is:

Francisco Jose Pacheco, son of Joao Jacinto Pacheco Maria __.

Victoria Querbina, daughter of Jose da Ponta _ Roza Jacinta.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

 Sincerely,

 Sherry Barnhurst

Cheri,

Thank you for this heads up..Patsy and I have a MALE cousin, one of
two left that are a direct line with the Vieira-Anselmo line. He has agreed
to do the DNA during the next sale. Our family started out with 9
brothers from Sao Miguel, and now we are down to only 2 remaining male
grandsons.
Of course, there are plenty of females!

Needless to say, we were anxiously waiting for the next sale.

This is great news for us.

I don't know if they will have a sale in April for DNA Day. The last 3 or
so years, they've had the Sizzling Summer Sale. The last 6 or 7 years,
they've had the Holiday Sale at the end of the year. Only once they did
DNA Day. Don't know how much of a money maker it was for them.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] help with search on de Rego, de Viveiros Pertana, Medeiros, Faria

2012-03-03 Thread Cheri Mello
Joanne,

There's aren't census records like the United States and Canada. To find
baptism, marriage, and death records for people born in the 1870s or before
you can order that on film from your local FHC for Ponta Garca and
Livramento and look them up. If you go to the Azores, you'll need to go to
the archive in Ponta Delgada. They may just hand you the film that you
could view at home.

The baptism and marriage may or may not have the street name. There will
not be an address. You may have to ask around to see if anyone remembers
where the Resendes, Medeiros, etc family lived back then. You may or may
not get lucky.

Mello Mayer, Henrietta. South of the Cannons: Portuguese Families of
Stonington, Connecticut. Stonington: Stonington Historical Society.
2012.

This book is a compilation of information on the Portuguese community
of Stonington, Connecticut, USA. The book combines genealogy,
chronicle, and public records.

South of the Cannons: Portuguese Families of Stonington, Connecticut
compiled by Henrietta Mello Mayer South of the Cannons is a rich
chronicle of Stonington in a time that vanished only yesterday. “South
of the Cannons,” the area from Cannon Square to the Point in
Stonington Borough, was for decades the focus of the town’s vital
Portuguese life.

Henrietta Mello Mayer's work captures the flow of that busy time while
it still lives in memory. The book is a greatly expanded edition of
her 1977 work, Silva Descendants: Portuguese Genealogy. It contains
fresh genealogical material, a chronology of Portuguese life in
Stonington, previously unpublished family and census records, research
on the compiler’s Azorean ancestors, and many previously unpublished
photographs.

Henrietta Mello Mayer South is a genealogist.

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Need help with record

2012-03-03 Thread Richard Francis Pimentel
Hi Pam,

This is what I read on 2 Jan 1744 Francisco Tavares widower of Maria de
Pimentel buried in this parish and church married Antonia de Pimentel
daughter of Pedro de Ponte being deceased and Teresa Gouveir.

I would say that this is them I would guess the scribe may have been
confused and may have got the names wrong. I have seen it before. Francisco
parents would be on the record of his first marriage or perhaps on the
baptisms of his children.

Ok so I think I found the marriage of Francisco Tavares and Antonia Gouveia,
the problem is the margain shows Francisco Tavares and Antonia De Ponte.
Need verification that is says his parents were Francisco Tavares and Maria
De Pimentel and in the body it shows Antonia's name as Antonia De Pimentel
parents Pedro De Ponte and Theresa Gouveia. I had three of their children's
marriages and it shows her using Gouveia. I found the same three children
with her using Gouveia, Ponte, and Pimentel. How do you know for sure its
them?
