If I read this correctly, then: Maria-- filha de Manoel furtado Solteiro, filho de domingos furtado Rezende, ja defunto, ed de Sua mulher Maria Cabral, aqual menino des sua may. E fo. de ditto Manoel furtado [can't really get this section]... e de Francisca de Simas [nossa ?], Solteira, filha familias de Manoel Furtado Souza, e de Sua mulher Izabel de Simas ... Approximately: Manoel Furtado, unmarried, the son of Domingos Furtado Rezende, deceased, and his wife Maria Cabral, that boy [... I think this section means that Manoel had attained his majority] and the son of said Manoel Furtado.. and of Francis de Simas, unmarried, [and] not yet of age daughter of Manoel Furtado Souza and his wife Izabel de Simas I hope others will correct my errors. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Question about preferred method for entering last names in Ancestry.com or other databases
Mary, I do method 1 unless de/da/do is part of their legal name. For Maria do Rosario Silva, I would have her under Silva. But for others, it depends. My Mello Barbosa line is under M because when I traced him he was a Mello for a long time before tacking on Barbosa to distinguish himself from his uncle, cousin, and nephew, all with the exact same name. [AZORES-Genealogy] Question about preferred method for entering last names in Ancestry.com or other databases
I have have lots of ancestors with do/da/de in their names (as do we all...). I have a question about the preferred method of entering their names in a database. 1) I've been putting the do/da/de in the first/middle name field - following the middle name, so it doesn't alphabetize by the do's and da's.Should I be doing that, or just leaving the do/da/de out completely? 2) Also, I have some with compound names. Let's use "Maria do Rosario da Silva" as an example.Would I enter her last name as "Rosario da Silva", or "Rosario Silva" or just "Silva" (and leave Rosario as her middle name)? Any advice on the preferred method would be appreciated! Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Most efficient way of researching ancestors?
Cheri; I’m trying to ‘flesh out’ my ancestors siblings families to try to make connections with other on ‘the list’ and I’m finding it very frustrating to be looking for one person and see all these other ‘most likely’ connections and not know what to do with them to keep them organized. I save each of the documents I find on my ancestors and load them into my FTM program. I guess I need to make some folders and sub-folders on my desktop and put the documents into them. Labeling each folder by extended family name, for future use. It’s all s time consuming.
