Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] locating land records in order to get more informatioin on my family
Property records are kept at the Registo Predial, i.e what we call the Registry of Deeds in Massachusetts. but these are only current IF estates have been probated. I have situations in my own family where properties were inherited/deeded by common agreement of the heirs without probating the estate and recording new deeds. This went on for 4 generations. You can imagine the difficulty when one of the 4th generation heirs decided to sell his share of the inheritance. It cost a fortune to clear the title through 4 successive generations. The important thing is to start the process long before you go to the Azores. Nothing is going to get resolved in two weeks time including obtaining documents. John On Friday, September 4, 2015 11:55 AM, manita.morgadowrote: Yes, that title is correct ... LAND RECORDS One of my goals for my upcoming trip to Sao Miguel is to locate some land records with the name of my paternal great grand mother who left lands to her children. Such is clearly indicated in her death record. She died in 1944. I know that the land is located in outskirts of the Vila da Povoacao. My goal is to find those land records so that I can determine HOW she got those lands. We believe her dad gave it to her as a gift, but I heard from another family member that her and her husband purchased it and that it was not a gift. I want to solve this mystery. I am meeting someone there to help me navigate the system, but I want to come prepared with all the information I could possible have to make that visit as productive and successful as possible. Does anyone here on this list have any advise and/or ever had to do such research for land records in order to gain more information on their family members? -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. [AZORES-Genealogy] locating land records in order to get more informatioin on my family
Yes, that title is correct ... LAND RECORDS One of my goals for my upcoming trip to Sao Miguel is to *locate some land records* with the *name of my paternal great grand mother who left lands to her children*. Such is clearly indicated in her death record. She died in 1944. I know that *the land is located in outskirts of the Vila da Povoacao. *My goal is to find those land records so that I can determine *HOW she got those lands. *We believe her dad gave it to her as a gift, but I heard from another family member that her and her husband purchased it and that it was not a gift. I want to solve this mystery. I am meeting someone there to help me navigate the system, but I want to come prepared with all the information I could possible have to make that visit as productive and successful as possible. Does *anyone here on this list have any advise and/or ever had to do such research for land records in order to gain more information on their family members?* -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Faded Birth record
Hi, I need help with this birth record for Inacia on the bottom right: http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1805-1818/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1805-1818_item1/P47.html I can read the parents names and grand parents. The grandparents names I believe. Jose Dutra de Andrade and Inacia Maria. It looks like it says they are paternal but they should be listed as maternal grand parents. Or perhaps I am translating the words before Jose's name completely wrong. I also can't read the year, can anyone make it out?
