Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Velma Cotta

2015-10-12 Thread linda
DOH! I knew that!

I should have drawn a timeline to remind myself of significant
events/dates.

I wonder if it would be productive to scroll through the WWI draft
registrations before and after Herculano Lopes's registration. My Great
Grandfather's WWI registration is numerically filed in near those of other
Portuguese fellows (and right before or after one of his brothers, IIRC),
and I imagine that they might have showed up to the registration as a
group.

Anyway, thanks for the reply, Dave, and sorry for the red-herring.

best,

2015-10-12 Thread Dave Worman
Linda,
Thank you for looking. We think Joe Cotta was in California by 1918 since
his 2nd daughter was born in Calif. in 1910.
But you never know where a lead will come from.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Velma Cotta

2015-10-12 Thread linda

Yes, or "Cateu" or "Coter". No argument there. It may well not be his
record, but it was the only WWI registration record I found that came close
when I searched using the Familysearch.org site.

His birth year, wife's name and general location are right. If the date of
birth and/or address can be confirmed, it would strengthen the case for it
being his record.

best,

Linda

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Alberto Profirio Botelho Arruda - Povoacao, São Miguel

2015-10-12 Thread Eliseu Pacheco da Silva
Just foud out that he went also by the name Alberto Porfírio de Araújo. His
parents were Jacinto Manuel de Arruda (Presidente da Câmara of Povoação)
Povoação Mayor, married to Ana Ermelinda Botelho.

You have it all in my tree :).

Thank you primo :)

Do you have the names of his parents, wife and children by chance?

Once I'm able to access CCA, I will look for the source documents.

No marriage information? Private chapel? I've never heard of that. Hm. I
wonder why Lagoa? Maybe his wife was from there?

I'd be interested to know if anyone in this group is a descendant of this man.

Thank you!

Attention to anyone that has ancestors from:

Povoacao, São Miguel born in the early 1800s. I suspect the Vila of Povoacao
and so Matriz Mãe de Deus church records but not necessarily.

Could you please look in your trees for:

He was most likely born around 1810 to 1830 in Povoacao, São Miguel. He was
definitely buried in the Povoacao cemetery, Santa Barbara. I know as I saw his

 Hi everyone..

I've been away for a few months... I haven't been doing much research
on the Azorean side lately, so I dropped out for a while..

I can see you're all having withdrawal pains from the CCA site being
 down. It's their site that's down, not tombo.pt, so there's nothing I
 can do.

As to the 'new' site, this is OLD news (search in this group for my
messages announcing it more than 18 months ago: "arquivos.azores.gov.pt'").
It's a catalog site, and for now I see no evidence that they're adding
records to it.. The one book that you've found there (Estrela baptisms from
1541 to 1563) has been there since at least March 13 2014. I see no
evidence that anything is changing regarding that site (and trust me, I
would know within 24hrs). This other site served a purpose for all of us
once, when they still hadn't provided everything online. Now that they've
digitized everything upto 1911, I don't think we'll get any news from them
in some time.. The tombo.pt sites still checks every week, so if there
are any news, it will find out automatically. Also, if they ever switch to
this new site also for the digitized images, tombo.pt will adapt and
provide you with the listings for each parish, same as today.

I see that Cheri has already contacted them, and I'm sure they're aware
of the problem. Let's hope that it's not serious.. Unfortunately, I know as
much as you. These things happen, but usually it's solved with a simple
 reboot of the machines.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Alberto Profirio Botelho Arruda - Povoacao, São Miguel

2015-10-12 Thread manita.morgado
Attention to anyone that has ancestors from:

Povoacao, São Miguel born in the early 1800s. I suspect the Vila of Povoacao
and so Matriz Mãe de Deus church records but not necessarily.

Could you please look in your trees for:

*** Alberto Profirio Botelho Arruda ***

He was most likely born around 1810 to 1830 in Povoacao, São Miguel. He was
definitely buried in the Povoacao cemetery, Santa Barbara. I know as I saw his
tombstone a few weeks ago when I was there.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Interpretation of Baptismal Record for Claudia, daughter of Florencia - Ponta Delgada, Flores 1806

2015-10-12 Thread João Ventura
David,

This is all amazing information. Thanks a lot! You're related to wife as
you can see in this relationship diagram from her to Florencia Rosa:

http://venturas.org/familytree/relationship.php?ged=venturas&pid1=I5&pid2=I152

This is all I know about her (and her children):

http://venturas.org/familytree/family.php?famid=F60&ged=venturas

In this case I think that Maria de Fraga Nunes is also Maria Coelho. Women
didn't really have surnames at the time, and they basically had their
parents surnames or a religious one.

Such a lousy time for the CCA site to be offline..

Hi Depending on how common the name Florencia appears in the records
during that time frame of 13 years would determine to me if it was the
 same
person. If it appears as a very uncommon name, then I would say they were
 the same person.

Also, In order to make a good determination, I would check ten years
prior to the birth of Pedro and 10 years after the birth of Claudia.

Were you able to find the birth of Florencia, child of Maria in Corvo?
If Maria was also a slave, that would help solving the puzzle.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Could the CCA records be down??

2015-10-12 Thread João Ventura
Hi everyone..

I've been away for a few months... I haven't been doing much research on
the Azorean side lately, so I dropped out for a while..

I can see you're all having withdrawal pains from the CCA site being down.
It's their site that's down, not tombo.pt, so there's nothing I can do.

The tombo.pt sites still checks every week, so if there are
any news, it will find out automatically. Also, if they ever switch to this
new site also for the digitized images, tombo.pt will adapt and provide you
with the listings for each parish, same as today.

I see that Cheri has already contacted them, and I'm sure they're aware of
the problem. Let's hope that it's not serious.. Unfortunately, I know as
much as you. These things happen, but usually it's solved with a simple
reboot of the machines.

Thursday works well. Are you available this week? And can we assume the CCA Wil
be up?
