Those are baptism dates. One says o contrehente (groom) was baptised Sept 
10- 1792, the other, o contrehente (bride) was baptised July 18- 1805.

Linda J, it doesn't mean anything. An exposta or exposto left at the roda
was given to a family to raise for 7 years. This family received money to
raise the kid. At the age of 7 years, the kid could decide to stay with the
family or go make his/her own way. Maybe a real family member went to the
camara and claimed her. Or maybe she was assigned to a family. It could be
either scenario. Her baptism may say which family she was given to (at
least until 7 years of age).

If you do find a descendant from Mrs. Marie Church (or from her 2-great),
DNA *might* be able to solve this. It depends on the age of test taker and
how far back we need to go.

By-the-way, the Matriz called Sao Sebastiao is in the city of Ponta
Delgada. If someone remembers this post in a few months and goes searching
the archives for a Leonor, roda, Ponta Delgada, they won't find the post.
The could use other words, but may not find it either, depending on the
combination of words used. We should all strive to use the correct
spellings (and modern Portuguese spellings of names). We can't search for
information with a variety of misspellings and computers are terrible at
guessing or suggesting Portuguese words. :)

[AZORES-Genealogy] Looking for Connections in Newspaper Article.

My cousin and I have been researching our exposta Leonor de Conceciao who was 
born in December 1870 and left in the Rhoda at the Matriz Sao Sebastio, Ponte 
del Gasa, Sao Miguel, Azores.  It has long been passed down the although she 
was left at the convent, her aunt came later to pick her up and raise her.  So 
far we have found her Baptismal record and her marriage record.  Most recently, 
my cousin found this newspaper article which tells a little story about her.  
Most importantly it links her with a Costa, Linhares, family.  The last line is 
the best because it tells us that she was raised by Marie Church's great-great 
grandfather.  Marie Church is the daughter of Maria Carmen Linhares Costa.  We 
are thinking this may be part of the line we can connect with Leonor.  Anyone 
out there related to this line?  Let me know.

The Resendes and Soares of Sao Miguel are not, for the most part, related 
to those from Santa Maria. There are some Resendes or Soares much later who 
migrated from Santa Maria to Sao Miguel. 

Chelly, if you already searched Faial da Terra and Agua Retorta and were 
not able to find your couple, try Achada and Achadinha. After that try 
Povoacao and Nordeste and Nordestinho. There are quite a few by those names 
in said places.

Resendes in my paternal line from Santa Maria.  Perhaps we can find a match.  I 
do not think I have this particular Jose Soares de Resendes, however; if you 
have others in his line, we may be able to find a connection and help each

Chelly,

It depends. I noticed in the first marriage document that it states the
bride's parents as Jose de Medeiros and Maria Rebela (Jose is deceased). So
you may think your are looking for a Jose Pereira de Medeiros instead of a
Jose de Medeiros. I'd also stop at ever Jose Pereira as well.

On Maria da Luz' marriage, the parents are listed as Jose Soares and Maria
Rebela.

On the death of Jose Soares, it states he's a widower of Maria Rebella,
meaning she died first. That's not correct if your marriage of Jose Soares
de Resendes of 1823 is correct. That marriage states only the bride's dad
is dead, not the mom.

On the brother's (Antonio's marriage), it says his parents are Jose Pereira
de Medeiros & Maria Rebela.

You've got more than one couple here.

Explain your line in brief format to this couple of Jose Whomever and Maria
Rebella: Chelly>Fred>Patricia>Manuel __ & Maria  > Antonio ___ & Maria
 > Jose de Medeiros & Maria Rebella (for example). Then I'll ask you a
couple of questions to help you strategize so you can figure out which

name, Cisaltina. Also the diminutive "Cezina" I mentioned earlier, should be
