Mel, The main body *might* say that he was given to Maria de Jesus, wife of Joao Pacheco Grande, to nurse. There's some words before that I'm unfamiliar with, so a native speaker will have to help out here. The side margin says the mom came and claimed him. He was the natural son of Maria Pacheco. Of book 7, number 2. That's how I read it. I'm not sure what it means. I don't see any legitimization books for the 1860s. [AZORES-Genealogy] Trying to understand an Exposto record (1862, Fenais da Vera Cruz)
I was hoping those who known Portuguese better than I do (which is pretty much everyone...LOL) can help me understand this record. It involves an exposto named Luciano. Is it saying that he was adopted by Maria de Jesus, wife of Joao Pacheco Grande? http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-FENAISAJUDA-B-1860-1869/SMG-RG-FENAISAJUDA-B-1860-1869_item1/P89.html Also in the side margin it seems to be saying he is the child of Maria Pacheco.
