but I couldn't find and example of it being used as a given name. I expect

Hi Rick,

Just curious if there is an obit around the time of Luzia's obit for her baby?
Possible some info on it if there is one. 33 yr old death for a female could be
childbirth related. It was in my family.

Hi, I am trying to close up a confusing remarriage in Santissimo Salvador
where Francisco de Pimentel widower of Luzia do Espirito Santo marries Antonia
de Jesus widow of Francisco de Pimentel.
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RIBEIRINHA-C-1836-1860/SMG-RG-RIBEIRINHA-C-1836-1860_item1/P66.html
  Left side.

I have found the Obito of Luzia do Espirito Santo here in Porto Formoso:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-PORTOFORMOSO-O-1843-1858/SMG-RG-PORTOFORMOSO-O-1843-1858_item1/P12.html
Left side bottom entry. Not much information except she was 33 years old more
or less.

The marriage records for the years 1821 to 1843 as are the Baptismal records
for 1817 to 1840 are missing so I cannot find the marriage to Francisco de
Pimentel or look for any children prior to 1840.

I did look at the Baptismal records from 1808 to 1813 and found only one Luiza
baptized:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-PORTOFORMOSO-B-1800-1816/SMG-RG-PORTOFORMOSO-B-1800-1816_item1/P135.html
upper right entry. Two things: the spelling of the name Luzia (used on
Obito) compared to Luiza (use on baptismal and the remarriage) are two
different names. If the marriage record were found it would clear up that
question but I can only assume that: this is the wrong baptism or the name was
changed at marriage. Perhaps the priest writing the Obito was hard of hearing.

The age at death of 33 years old would mean she was born around 17 Nov 1811 the
baptism record I found was born on 14 Feb 1813. I can accept the difference of
age as reasonable being off by 14 months.

I am leaning that the baptism record I found is the right one any opinions on
this.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Origin of surname Noia on Flores

2018-04-30 Thread Cheri Mello
Repost for , 1halfazorean at gmail.com

I googled my great grand mother’s name ( Nunes )and came across a thread
with past relatives of her husband Antonio Noia! My great grand father
naturally. Wow. It also lists their three children, my great aunt & uncle
and my grandmother. Very interesting. It also mentions my mothers two
brothers and not her or her two sisters or her! Reading through all the
past generation with all the familiar last names and some of the first
names is amazing. Sure wish my mom was alive to see this information.
My question is, where did the Noia name begin? António Fraga sees to have
started it all in the Azores, Flores. Fraga, Carvalho, Pimentel, De Jesus
are also mentioned. I don’t see where the name Noia actually enters the
family!? Also mentioned is that, Noia was shortened or altered once
arriving in America.
Anyway, any comments welcome

de Jesus widow of Francisco de Pimentel.
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RIBEIRINHA-C-1836-1860/SMG-RG-RIBEIRINHA-C-1836-1860_item1/P66.html

I am leaning that the baptism record I found is the right one any opinions on
this.

Hi Rick,

Just curious if there is an obit around the time of Luzia's obit for her baby?
Possible some info on it if there is one. 33 yr old death for a female could be
childbirth related. It was in my family.

Rick,

Luzia and Francisco de Pimentel in Porto Formoso, right side. They were
married Feb 15 1816.

I did look at the Baptismal records from 1808 to 1813 and found only one Luiza

Obito) compared to Luiza (use on baptismal and the remarriage) are two
different names. If the marriage record were found it would clear up that

changed at marriage. Perhaps the priest writing the Obito was hard of hearing.

The age at death of 33 years old would mean she was born around 17 Nov 1811 the
baptism record I found was born on 14 Feb 1813. I can accept the difference of
age as reasonable being off by 14 months.

I am leaning that the baptism record I found is the right one any opinions on
this.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Has anyone seen a passport issued in the name of the father of the kid (12 years old)?

2018-04-30 Thread Sonia Pacheco
Consular records are indeed available but where they're located and the dates
varies...widely.

New Bedford (and *only* New Bedford) records, pre-1960s, are for the most part
at the New Bedford Whaling Museum

The national archives (in Portugal) holds some of the very early US
consular/embassy records

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (in Portugal) has its own archive and holds a
wide variety of consular records (none are available online)

The official protocol is that when the consular office wants to dispose of
records (often because of a lack of space) they are to microfilm them and keep
them onsite (the originals may or may not be sent to Portugal), but I know for
a fact this protocol hasn't always been followed in the US

The other thing to remember is that the consulate would only have records
pertaining to the folks who actually *registered* with them: while they were
obligated to do by Portuguese law, there were way more folks who didn't, then
those who did.

Antonio, was a minor at the age of 12. Things change. I've seen name changes,
more so for women than men, but some men did change it. So being a minor, named
Antonio, he emigrated under the family name of Martins d'Azara.

I don't know what the the consulate did. Their records are not available, to my
knowledge. Cheri

If the passport couldn`t be issued in the name of his father, then you have a
good hipothesis: he changed his name later in life. Do you think it`s something
a consulate would keep track of?

Thanks again

The 1857 passaporte is for Antonio Martins d'Azara, age 12. If you think he's
the 1845 Antonio in that baptism record, then he is.

You have to decided if Antonio Aniceto Azara de Oliveira is Antonio Martins
d'Azara. If he is, he changed his name after being in Brasil for awhile.

There was a thread from about a year ago where someone stated majority age was
25. So maybe at that time, he changed his name.
