Now that I know there is a gas line over head then I suggest you use dynamite.
You can smooth out the ruff parts after the blast.

Jewel, are you flirting with me? *GRIN*

Please, you are shattering my all too brittle ego. *GRIN* I will make
one pathetic attempt to salvage my dignity though. I could probably swing
a heavier sledge if I were driving something down into the ground, like a
fence post. However, swinging the sledge at head height against a wall,
while trying not to hit the gas line over head, or my hand, and trying to
hold a chisel in place and keep it from slipping off and plunging it into
my chest with each hammer blow, has been a challenge. *GRIN*

One other thing to remember is to unplug the
freezer before you start. If you don't, it takes
forever to get all the ice build up out. Trust me

RE: [BlindHandyMan] Power Planer

2006-07-25 Thread Cy Selfridge
Man, what a witch of a job!
I have a straight blade power plane. It does work very well - but - care
MUST be used with it. I would be very concerned about the blade shattering
some of the old wood should you accidently go cross grain with it (as when
one gets to a corner)
I have seen this thing do those sort of things. It is the very berries for
planing off the rough side of a 2x4 or making that 2x2 fit where the
replacement support for your water bed croke.
If you happen to use it on the edge of plywood or such you really do need to
be sure to hit the end (both) backwards or it will splinter the edge.
I have never seen the spiral type but would be interested in it.
I will also tell you that that blamed power plane is the only piece of wood
working equipment I have ever been hurt by.
IT will plane the ends of your fingers before you can say Jack Robinson.
(LOL)
After you release the power button you blamed well need to wait until you
hear the motor wind down otherwise have your wife standing by with band aids
and gauze. (LOL)
I was so very careful to keep my fingers out of the way as I traced down the
2x4 but, like a real dummy, let my fingers lap over the end of the plane
after I released the power button. (not once, but twice)
Anyway, good luck.
(ever thought about shimming up the frame to match the window trims?)

After a drywalling project, where the lathe and plaster was removed and the
new drywall hung and finished, I now need to plane 11 double hung wooden
window frames to get them flush to the wall before replacing the woodwork
and sills.

What models of portable power planes are you guys using? Do you prefer the
straight or spiral blade planers?

Thanks.

Once you have the ice off your freezer, wipe the surfaces with glycerine. The

you defrost, those sheets of ice will just push off. No need to wait for yonks

As someone mentioned the use of a hair dryer speeds things along. I also
use a board and with light hammer taps can dislodge the ice on the sidewalls
after some time blowing the hot air on the metal sides rather than the ice.
Get the metal warmed, or plastic and it melts the bond to the ice making it
easy to knock it loose so you can remove huge chunks rather than waiting for
everything to melt.
Remember I said light taps on a board against the ice.

I have a rather large chest freezer.
 I need to defrost it.
I wish to do this in a timely fashion because I have a great deal of food
in
there and I don't want to leave it out of the freezer too long even though
I
will have enough room in my coolers to keep it all contained.

Here is my plan. Does any one have a better plan or see any thing
possibly
 damaging about the following.
I have a large stew pot that I was going to put hot watter in and then put
it in the freezer on a steel grate so that it would not sit on the bottom
surface of the freezer and then shut the door and wait for it to reach
 entrippy.

my other thought was since heat rises and cool settles I want to get a
steady flow of warm air in the bottom.
I have a rainbow vacume that I can hook the hose to the blower and put the
hose in the bottom of the freezer, this would give me a steady flow of
room
 temperature.
Since I do not have air conditioning this would end up being probably 75
to
 85 degrees
 any feed back?
