[BVARC] BVARC Elections -- Serve Your Radio Club

2019-11-04 Thread Rick Hiller via BVARC
We are seeking dedicated BVARC members to fill a few offices on the BVARC
Boasrd of Directors. Details in the newsletter, but in short, we will be
electing a new President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary and a 2 Year and 1
Year At Large members.

Please consider running for one of these offices. Without members to fill
these slots, they will go unfilled and make it extremely difficult for the
club to function.

The time required for each office varies from an "always on the lookout"
President to "show up once a month" At Large position. Whatever time you
are willing to allocate to the club, we have the slot to fit your schedule.

Call or e-mail Rick - W5RH if you would like to be place on the ticket or
if you have questions.

An open nomination session will take place before the voting takes place at
the November meeting for those that wish to think about it until then.

More in the upcoming newsletter. Contact Rick -- rickhille...@gmail.com
and 832-474-3713

Thank you for your consideration.

73...Rick -- Election Committee.

[BVARC] BVARC Elections

2016-11-10 Thread Rick Hiller -- W5RH via BVARC
With DJT firmly in office, as of Jan 20, it is time for all BVARC members
to consider joining him in an elected office position on the BVARC Board of
Directors.

VP, Treasurer, 1 Year At Large and 2 Year At Large are all open for
nominations.

For those who have never been on the BOD, it is fun, quite easy and it
gives you insight into how BVARC runs and, most importantly, gives you a
say in what happens. For those who have been on the board previously, it
was fun the first time, so how about doing another stint?

*E-mail me at wn3...@gmail.com or
rickhille...@gmail.com ,* if you would like to
volunteer to run or you would like to nominate someone. There will be a
period tonight, pre-voting, for floor nominations, but that will be your
absolute last chance to get your favorite Ham, or yourself, on the BVARC
ballot.

My *cell is 832-474-3713*, should you wish to discuss any of the offices
and their commitments.
TNX ES 73.Rick -- W5RH

psso far, there has been quite a dirth of candidates, outside of the 2
members that have positively committed.

7:30 PM, Thursday, November 12th, 2015

421 Eldridge Rd, Sugar Land, 77478, Sugar Land Masonic Lodge

What time is it? It’s Time for Chili and the Club Elections!

It is that time of the year again – chili supper and elections. Both are
important for the club’s survival. The chili supper provides club members with
nourishment (some people call it that) while the elections provides the club
with leadership and direction. Without one or the other the club will die (I am
stretching the point on the chili supper). Without club members taking a
leadership for the club, BVARC will become like so many amateur radio clubs
across Houston and the US…gone. So many clubs are on life support in one form
or another or just barely making it. So step up and volunteer for the board of
directors for BVARC and help the club survive.

>From Rick...

Thursday night is a great night for determining the future of BVARC, as it is
the annual elections of 4 new officers for 2016 and/or 2017.

nominations.

The slate, as of Thursday lunch, will be posted on the reflector and also
listed on a board at the meeting, so all will know who is running.

Enjoy the chili and cornbread too.

[BVARC] BVARC Elections November -- Think about this, below.........

2015-10-25 Thread Rick Hiller via BVARC
The response to my reflector notes asking for folks to run for a few BVARC
offices has been met with the frightening sound of crickets.

Imagine no one there to run the meeting or take your dues or run the nets or
answer your questions...Crickets.

Think about it !

Offices open are President, Recording Secretary,

2 Year-At Large and 1 Year-at Large Board members.

BVARC Board of Directors in running the club for 2016 and 2017,

please contact me, Rick Hiller - W5RH at

It really is an honor to give back to the club that provides you with multiple
on-air nets each week, an excellent monthly newsletter, great once a month
meetings with good technical content, a brilliant web site full of good
information and an annual Greater Houston Hamfest for you to attend (and
volunteer for). Yes you pay dues but so do the current Board members and
the other members that edit and send out the newsletter, write the articles,
pull net control station duty week after week, organize and run the events
throughout the year….….and down the line.

This is the first in my many to be “begging” emails. I’ll only stop begging
when a few folks come up to volunteer.

Think about running for one of the offices, please.

Re: [BVARC] BVARC elections/ chili supper meeting

2014-11-15 Thread Scott Royall via BVARC
Please pardon my error, WILLIS.

Ah. Mystery solved, I suppose. I couldn't remember who originally encouraged me
to run so I was going to be hard-put to substantiate telling anyone. I did make
three transmissions to Bill stating the same thing not five minutes later as he
wound his way to the meeting. I’m pretty certain I identified during that time,
but I think we can agree that my “voice” is unique, at least on Amateur Radio.
Odd that Bill never acknowledged.

I already said by implication that I have nothing against Scott, I’m sure he’ll
do fine. I do believe though that the DX’ers and contesters had adequate
representation on the BoD before the election. I’m not so sanguine that
rag-chewers like myself could say the same thing. That’s really why I decided
to run. To be very clear, DX’ing and contesting are perfectly valid aspects of
Amateur Radio, and we already have a “fraternity” to nuture those activity. I
certainly welcome them into BVARC as well, but I think clubs like BVARC need to
maintain a broader appeal. Someone within the last few days has advocated on
34/94 that “maker” type projects are needed to attract kids. Maybe. I’m
certainly not going to build hardware, but software might well be another
matter! In any case, the point is that no one or two interests can dominate a
general-interest club like BVARC. My joke regarding merging TXDS and BVARC was
meant to be a reminder of that (and I hope I have resolved any confusion,
Willie).

Bill and Scott:

This was an error on my part. I talked to Scott on the way to the meeting
and during the conversation Scott mentioned he would like to run for the 2 yr
position. I said I would mention it at the meeting. When I got there I got tied
up in the set up of the Chili Dinner and it slipped my mind. I appoligize to
you Scott and If at all possible Bill could we add Scott's name to the 2 yr at
large list? If that is not possible as per the rules then I apologize to you
Scott. Yes there are some people in both clubs that are on both BOD's. But that
does not mean we should join the clubs at the hip. TDXS is a specialty club and
those that belong to it have a very specific interest while BVARC has many
general interests with in the Club. Some of the members of both Clubs are
interested in things that both Clubs do and have a right to join both. I am a
member of ECHO, BVARC, PECG, ARES, and RACES but that does not mean that all
those clubs should be one. Again Scott I am very Sorry that your request
slipped my mind.

My joke regarding merging TXDS and BVARC was
meant to be a reminder of that (and I hope I have resolved any confusion,
Willie).

I am a

those clubs should be one. Again Scott I am very Sorry that your request
slipped my mind.

I too was puzzled by Scott's statement. I think that most know I am a long
time member of TDXS and a board member, a longer term member of the greater
Houston ham community in that I have been licensed since 1956 and lived in
Pearland from 1975 until 1988, Jamaica Beach on Galveston Island from 1988
until 2003 and in Santa Fe Since. I have known Al Brier, now N5XZ through
Ten-ten and met current president of BVARC Bill Stone through Al and Mike
Davidson of Echo Society and TDXS. Al, Mike, Bill, Ron Litt and others are
currently members of TDXS and are dues paying members of more than one club,
but I don't think any of us think that merging any of these clubs will serve
our interest. I think that all of us face the delima that scheduled meetings
are often at the same time and we must select the one that needs us the most at
the time. Several of us have served on the BOD and as officers of various
clubs that have many of the same officers. Al and
Mike are past presidents of TDXS, Bill served as DX Chairman of TDXS until he
was recruited to run for President of BVARC and won a hotly contested election
by one vote. I was asked by President of TDXS, W5UQ, Bob Hardy to replace Bill
and give up my appointed board position as Contest Chairman to Joe Staples,
W5ASP because Joe wanted the job and Bill was elected President of BVARC and
needed to resign from his office in TDXS so he could focus on BVARC. The
previous chairmen of the BVARC Field Day and MSWE resigned after the election
for reasons known to them and not me. Bill approached me to help him with his
BVARC concerns about Field Day and MSWE which Bill had been Chairing for years.
He offered to pay my dues if I would become a BVARC member and help with these
events and Chair MSWE. I agreed to do so, except for allowing him to pay my
dues, so I paid the dues and became as active as I could in BVARC while
continuing to support TDXS and TARS.
I could see that serving as an ex-officio DX chairman for both of these clubs
would take little additional effort.. I do not ask board membership or undue
influence in either BVARC or TARS over at large membership every one gets with
payment of dues. I did not know that Rick Hiller considered Ron Litt to be the
official Contest and DX Chairman for BVARC or what ever title BVARC has given
him. I tried to find out Thursday night before I made any announcement or
offer of assistance. I approached BVARC president Bill Stone, but Bill had
bigger fish to fry with the election and meeting that he was conducting
Thursday. I made my statement and invitation to lean on me by any individual
who had Contesting or or DXing that were not answered by other sources. That
offer still stands to anyone who is interested including members or officers of
any club who asks. Rick suggested that I submit any articles to the BVARC
newsletter, but I submit an article to
the TDXS Bullsheet when I have time to write one and I see no benefit to
anyone to submit the same or a paraphrased artical to multiple newsletters.
The TDXS Bullsheet is available on the TDXS reflector when the monthly
Bullsheet is released and from the TDXS web site which contains all editions of
the Bullsheet since its inception in 1970. No membership, dues payment or
other affiliation with TDXS is needed or expected. If the editort of the BVARC
newsletter wishes to copy any article of mine from the Bullsheet, he needs only
the permission of the current editor of the Bullsheet who is Alen Brier, N5XZ
and also a BVARC member. There is no active movement to combine TDXS with
BVARC or any other club at this time, although we are concerned about the
aging of membership and increasing membership. We value and appreciate the
joint meetings, joint Field Day events and other cooperative events that are
approved by both BOD. My opinion that any merging
of Clubs should be by dual memberships, of which there are several or with a
club with similar concerns, such as the 'Central Texas Contest and DX Club' (my
idea and not persued by either BOD as far as I know). My interest in BVARC is
to support it as a general club, centered on the Sugar Land area. If that does
not satisfy anyone, please contact directly at 832-630-1799 for private
discussion.
