Les appels se multiplient en faveur d'une reprise rapide des audiences après la mort de Ieng Sary, 87 ans, ex-chef de la diplomatie du régime de Pol Pot, qui était jugé pour génocide, crimes de guerre et crimes contre l'Humanité. Sa disparition jeudi a rappelé que la cour, créée en 2006, n'avait prononcé qu'un seul verdict - une perpétuité pour Douch, patron de la prison de Phnom Penh à l'époque. Désormais, seuls l'ex-chef de l'Etat Khieu Samphan, 81 ans, et le frère numéro deux et idéologue du régime, Nuon Chea, 86 ans sont encore jugés. Une déception très importante pour les familles des victimes. L'organisation américaine Human Rights Watch a notamment estimé qu'Hun Sen avait tout fait pour plonger le travail du tribunal dans l'impasse. La juridiction parrainée par l'ONU a été paralysée pendant deux semaines par une grève des traducteurs, alors que les 270 employés locaux de la cour n'ont pas été payés depuis novembre. Un accord préliminaire a été trouvé mais la cour souffre toujours d'un trou d'environ 7 millions dans son budget. Un observateur étranger avait confirmé à l'AFP l'agacement de certaines chancelleries vis-à-vis de l'inertie du gouvernement, accusé de ne rien faire pour sauver la cour. Une critique balayée par Hun Sen, qui a indiqué partager des inquiétudes communes avec la communauté internationale. La première, c'est le manque d'argent, la seconde c'est le grand âge des accusés, a-t-il résumé. Ieng Sary doit être incinéré jeudi dans son village dans le nord-ouest du pays. Les victimes, elles, perdent chaque jour un peu plus espoir d'entendre des réponses à leurs questions sur les quelque deux millions de personnes mortes d'épuisement, de faim, sous la torture ou dans des exécutions sommaires, entre 1975 et 1979. Conscious of the day from grandpa My grandfather used to tell me a story of crocodiles fighting in a small lake that had a lot of fish in it. The fighting gone up for seven days and nights so they both come to rest and yawn on the shore after both sides exhaustion. The fish in the lake died from that long confliction and there were all kind of fish and very good side for the dish still fresh. So my grandfather asked me to response to the story, “son, if you see a lot of fish die and you want them home for mommy to cook, what you will do first?” I did answer to him that I will jump straight in the lake and collect good side fish for mommy…. He laughed so hard and then he asked me, “So what happen to the crocodiles resting so exhausted?” I never reply to his story then in my childhood time, and now so in the conscious state, I saw his meaning that he tried to teach me somehow between men and confliction. In this case Kangaroo is right. At this point, I am contacting the owner of this petition and petitiononline to remove my name off. Because it is against my will, it is illegal in the U.S. The important thing is that make the petition useless, dis-qualify. Le ministère thaïlandais des Affaires étrangères a accusé la partie cambodgienne d'être responsable de l'incident et a annoncé qu'une note de protestation serait envoyée dans la journée à Phnom Penh. Nous avons dû riposter parce que les Cambodgiens ont ouvert le feu les premiers sur des soldats thaïlandais, a déclaré Tharit Charungvat, porte-parole du ministère. Nous souhaitons réitérer que cette zone fait partie de notre territoire, a-t-il ajouté. Seni Chittakasem, gouverneur de la province frontalière thaïlandaise de Si Sa Ket, a dit que le bref affrontement avait été provoqué par des militaires cambodgiens, venus enquêter dans une zone où un soldat thaïlandais avait perdu la jambe jeudi à la suite de l'explosion d'une mine. Il n'y a pas eu de pertes côté thaïlandais et l'incident est terminé maintenant, a-t-il ajouté. Une version différente a été donnée côté cambodgien. Un groupe de soldats thaïlandais est entré ce matin en territoire cambodgien et des soldats cambodgiens ont ouvert le feu, a affirmé Yeim Kheang, militaire cambodgien posté à la frontière. La situation est tendue maintenant mais les soldats thaïlandais n'ont pas riposté, a-t-il assuré. L'incident s'est produit dans le même secteur où des échanges de tirs avaient fait quatre morts le 15 octobre dernier. Le Cambodge avait également dénoncé une brève incursion thaïlandaise le 25 mars dans cette zone. Les tensions autour de Preah Vihear avaient éclaté en juillet 2008 lorsque ce temple majestueux du XIe siècle situé sur un promontoire avait été inscrit au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco, alors que de sérieux litiges frontaliers, héritage de l'époque coloniale, opposaient Bangkok à Phnom Penh. Le temple relève de la souveraineté du Cambodge, selon une décision de la Cour internationale de justice de La Haye en 1962.
