[cayugabirds-l] Golden-winged Warbler in Brooktondale

2023-05-10 Thread Melissa Groo
About an hour ago, I had the great fortune to stumble on a male
Golden-winged Warbler along Bald Hill Road just south of Grove School Road.
I was sitting in my car, photographing redstarts when suddenly a bird flew
to the edge of the road near me and perched on a low branch. A brilliant
warbler I’d never seen before. I could barely hear his high pitched trill
when he sang. He was only present for about 5 minutes, seemed to be moving
through. I have photos and audio of him, i.d. confirmed by Merlin. Will
share those on Facebook and eBird later.

[cayugabirds-l] Golden-winged warbler!

2021-05-04 Thread Jessica Kerns
I arrived home from a very quiet morning birding Shindagin Hollow and the
Hawthorne Orchard to find my backyard completely full of song. Much to my
surprise, among the constant sound of blue-winged warbler was a singing male
golden-winged warbler! He was kind enough to stick around for me to record his
song and get a few pics. Definitely a new yard bird. Maybe he liked what he saw
and will be back!
Happy birding,

Hi,

black beak. The only other marks I could see on it resembled a mustache that
ran down from both sides of its beak down to its throat. Any ideas? Merlin
couldn’t find a match.

Thanks!

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Golden-winged Warbler Seneca Co

2019-05-04 Thread Alicia
If you go, note that ALL of this property is private.  Please bird only
from the road and do not trespass!  The folks who own the land are very
private and do not welcome strangers walking on it.  Plus there are no
trails to follow and all the land around here is infested with deer
ticks, so staying on the roads makes sense!

[cayugabirds-l] Golden-winged Warbler in northeast Ithaca

2013-08-24 Thread Tom Schulenberg
I had a nice hit of warblers at home this morning (Hanshaw Road in
northeast Ithacaa), including a Tennessee (one of at least three found in
the area this morning, per eBird alerts), and a spectacular male
Golden-winged Warbler.

Seems as if this would be a good day to carefully check your local patch -
and then maybe to visit some other underbirded sites (of which there are
many!), just to see what else might be around right now.

Good birding,

RE: [cayugabirds-l] Golden-winged Warbler in northeast Ithaca

2013-08-24 Thread Kevin J. McGowan
I believe Tom was right. I checked a few flocks along Yellow Barn Rd this
morning and had an adult male Hooded Warbler with a nice mix of potential local
species (Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, Common Yellowthroat), as well as a Nashville
Warbler, and a female GOLD-EN-WINGED WARBLER in the forested section of the
road. The Golden-winged Warbler had a light yellowish wash across the chest,
so it probably is actually a LAWRENCE'S WARBLER form of Golden-winged x
Blue-winged hybrids. I will post a photo on my picasa site when I get today's
photos downloaded.

The Cornell compost facility had no shorebirds at the small ponds, but did have
3 species of Corvus (Common Raven, American Crow, Fish Crow). During my
hour-long crow census there, a Cooper's Hawk cleared the pigeons, gulls, and
lots of crows at one point, perhaps aided by a high-flyover young Bald Eagle.
But, the adult PEREGRINE FALCON that came zipping past my car made everything
leave!

[cayugabirds-l] Golden-winged Warbler

2010-09-05 Thread Christopher Wood
I just found a Golden-winged Warbler at Monkey Run South. Park at lot
go to river and fallen bridge. Turn
Left and go to white pines along river. Bird alone but a couple Common
Yellowthroats calling in same area.
