No, but don't worry. Go to the Files tab. The pull-down list contains an entry
"Allaire FTP & RDS".

RE: CFMail - Sending a link in an email

2001-03-06 Thread Teng-Yan Loke

Well, for me I found that the problem seems to be with the MIME type that is
set by ColdFusion. If memory serves me right, it was "text/html". Somehow,
MS Outlook is not able to treat the e-mail as HTML code, so it displays all
the code. As for most other mail clients that can view HTML mail, they have
no problems displaying mail sent by CF.

Has anyone else seen this?

I don't think so. the 4.5 upgrade will need to see 4.0 installed. However
you can uninstall the 4.0 after you install 4.5. That's what I always do.

RE: reading local INI file

2001-03-06 Thread Scott, Andrew

WDDX is probably the best way, although you could use XML. The only problem
with XML is that from both the Windows Application and the Web Server would
need to use a XML passer, whereas WDDX can be used under Delphi by inlcuding
the relevant dll into the Application and from the server well that is the
easy part.

Usually, the answer would be to write an ActiveX executable to do this for
you, and have that executable downloaded from your server via an OBJECT
reference in your HTML page.

However, it would probably be even easier to simply add some code to your
Delphi forms, and have them send the ID back on each page request.

curly queries

2001-03-06 Thread Toby Tremayne

I've got a tricky problem that I just can't figure out.

I'm outputting a list of poems fomr a database (just the titles.) Each poem
has several "options" such as hidden, hilite etc. As I output the titles in
a list, I need to be able to run conditional checks against each option (IE
if hilite is "on" then display markers next to the title.) The tables are
set up like so:

-
poem
-
poem_id numeric
poem_title varchar
-

-
poem_option
-
poem_id numeric
option_id numeric
setting varchar
-

-
poem_option_def
-
option_id numeric
option_name varchar
-

you can see my problem (hopefully). To start with I'm getting each
poem_title repeated once for every option that exists. In the query I need
to select all this information for only the poems whose "hidden" option has
a setting of "off", then I need to output the title only once obviously, at
that time check each of it's options.

This doesn't quite work because while what I NEED is this:

one record:
-
poem_id | poem_title | hidden | hilite | spellcheck |
-
   01"my poem" "off""on" "on"

instead, I have this:

one record:
-
poem_id | poem_title | option_name | setting |
-
01 "my poem" "hidden" "off"
01 "my poem" "spellcheck" "on"
01 "my poem" "hilite" "on"

as you can see this makes it difficult to do a

can anyone help me with this please? i know it's going to be a combination
of writing the correct query and grouping the output - it's just eluding me
utterly. I can't / don't want to hardcode each option into the queries etc,
because obivously the number and names of options will evnetually grow...

RE: Custom tags

2001-03-06 Thread Jason Aden

The ColdFusion server will first search for the custom tag in the current
directory, so if you call and you have a file called edit.cfm in
that folder, the local file will be run. If CF does not find the file in the
local folder, it will search the folders specified in the registry setting
under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Allaire > ColdFusion > CurrentVersion
> CustomTags > CFMLTagSearchPath. There is a comma-delimited list here of
the folders where CF will search for custom tags.

Once CF finds the file, it will cache the location until the next time the
server is restarted.

Hi Kevin,

for CustomTags called like , the apps server first looks in
the local directory, then in the CustomTag directory or directories defined
in the Registry.

If you want greater flexibility in calling Custom Tags (eg if you are being
hosted on a server where you don't have access to the CustomTags directory),
you can use CFMODULE to call the tag, and can include the path to wherever
you like.

RE: How to make recursion in CF

2001-03-06 Thread BORKMAN Lee

Hi George,
You make recursive functions in CF just as you would in any language. Well,
of course, CF doesn't yet have user-definable functions, but you can
certainly make recursive Custom Tags. It may not always be the most
efficient method, but it can be very effective when speed is not a vital
issue. It always seems alittle like magic to me.

There's really no special trick. A CustomTag can be called with parameters
(ie ATTRIBUTES). Inside the tag, the code calls this same tag, hopefully
with a different set of attributes. There are two things you need to do to
make recursion work:

1) The attributes with which you call the tag need to be changing; and
2) There needs to be some condition where the code DOES NOT make the
recursive call.

Without these two conditions, the recursion goes on infinitely, and never
"pops" up again.

But I guess you knew all that already. Sorry for the lecture.
Best of luck,
Lee (Bjork) Borkman

RE: How to make recursion in CF

recursion is fun!

create and run the following two files for a cool example of recursion :)

text.cfm
---

---

fileList.cfm
---

---

pretty basic. You'll end up with a list of all files in the original root
folder and all subfolders in (stored in request.files)

You can do other cool things with this kind of recursion (like use it to
build a CFtree).

RE: Nested Loop limit?

2001-03-06 Thread Bryan Love

There is no limit, but as you get deeper you have to pay close attention so
that you don't reassign a variable that is being used by a parent loop.

In your case you need to ensure the following:
- that the index of the first loop isn't being manipulated inside any of the
nested loops
- that the condition of the second loop doesn't reference a variable being
changed inside the third loop.
- that the condition of the third loop evaluates to TRUE the first time it
is hit

There is almost never a need to nest loops three deep. The third loop
indicates that your counting something; you can best accomplish this using
SQL (if counting query results) or by utilizing one of CF's many length
functions (arrayLen(), listLen, len(), etc...). Maintaining counters inside
loops is slow in CF and very inefficient. You may want to re-examine the
way your code works...

Hi All,

Is there a limit as to how many loops you can nest within each other?

I've been tracing through the code with the debugger and I'm pretty sure it
just skips over the third loop, (causing a nice little infinite loop in the
process too).

Code is of the form

Do stuff

increment a counter (this doesn't get touched)

I get the following error with a stored procedure. I am using CF 4.0. What
is stumping me is that when I run the query in the analyzer it works. For
example, this work:

INSERT INTO PollMembers

VALUES('MC-03-5-2001-14-33-22', 'PWOO2', 'A', GetDate())

ODBC Error Code = 23000 (Integrity constraint violation)

with COLUMN FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_PollMembers_Polls'. The conflict
occurred in database 'arica', table 'Polls', column 'PollID'.

SQL = "spInsertMyVote"

Data Source = "arica"

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(CFSTOREDPROC), occupying document position (92:1) to (93:33).

The Tables are:

Polls PollMembersMembers
PollID VARCHAR(25) PK PollID VARCHAR(25) FK MemberID CHAR(10) PK
PollNameMemberID CHAR(10) FK FirstName
etc.etcetc

I have triple checked the relationships and they are fine.

Here is the stored procedure in CF:

Here it is in SQL Server:

CREATE PROCEDURE spInsertMyVote (@PollID VARCHAR(25), @MemberID CHAR(10),
@MyVote CHAR(3))

AS

Sounds like Pollid is linked to another table. If there are any
relationships or existing data you'll have to work within those constraints.

Maybe inserting data into the other table first then into the other one?

Re: cfmail

2001-03-06 Thread Brian Thornton

MIME attachments are basically different formats of file to be attached in a
message. For instance at Double Click we use MIME attachment to a HTML
message in the case the reader doesn't support HTML then the MIME decencies
kick in and display the txt. You can find all about MIME and it's history at
http://bondiboard.macpublishing.net/1998/06/secrets/4337.html

--Yes it's a Mac Site--

As to the other issue I would determine if they are using new mail clients
that can read HTML and the send it that way.

Extend the timeout... I think the default is like 10 seconds or
something. I've never been able to successfully register a server

very hidden (and I don't know where off the top of my head).

   If you don't mind un-installing and re-installing. Un-install. Do a

The first method can be used in any version of cf and allows for a single
attachment. The second method is for cf 4.5 and allows for multiple
attachments.

> and what exactly is a MIME attachment?

MIME means "Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions " and is an encoding
method for mail attachments or special character sets. Traditionally,
emails can only contain 7-bit characters (although some mail servers support
8-bit). Using MIME allows for 8-bit binary attachments to be converted into
a 7-bit representation that can be decoded by the recipient.

I'd ask if they are running Qmail for a mail server. If they are, then
there is a known problem when using CF and sending mail through a Qmail
server. For some reason sometimes CF sends emails with bare line feeds in
it, (maybe this problem stems from the developers editor, I don't know) and
Qmail adheres strictly to the RFC, and does not accept it.

I've also had mail not go through for no reason at all, there was just some
generic error message in CF's mail log.

In any case, I've never seen the mail get lost completely, its always in
Cold Fusion's undeliverable folder.

I hope to God that you don't actually put that code on your web page.
Someone could just copy the source code and adjust the amount and submit
it... that's like putting the price as a variable in the url.

I'm going to assume you use this internally and not in the "outside" world.

This is form submit we use to send the data to payflow. There are several
configuration steps you have take, but their instructions are very
clear. The data is echoed back in the same form variables so once you
receive them back you can do with them as you wish.

Re: cfmail not working sometimes

2001-03-06 Thread Howie Hamlin

One of the problems with CFMAIL is that it only tries to deliver mail once.
If, for any reason, the mail is not sent there is no mechanism to retry.
Instead, the mail is moved to the UNDELIVR folder. There are custom tags
for moving the mail back into the spool for retry.

I would consider this to be a limitation and not a bug.

Also, I don't think ASPMail would make things any better since it operates
in pretty much the same way AFAIK.

One other thing - the mail delivery failure can be caused by the ISP's mail
server rejecting the mail as well or being off-line (CFMAIL won't retry if
the mail server is not available)

I would try to get the ISP to install the CF tag for mail respooling.

RE: One page calls another

2001-03-06 Thread Parker, Kevin

Thank you Robert. This is an area I haven't previously used so if you'll
bare with me I think I'm beginning to understand it a bit better after
reading the relevant sections in Ben Forta's book.

The plan is to create a simple quiz comprising 7 pages, 5 for the quiz, one
to enter your details if you get to the end and one for the certificate.
Lets call them A, B, C, D, E, F and G. The test is not marked - you just
have to get to the last page E and answer the question right to qualify.

I think what I need to do is establish an application.cfm file to initialise
the variable rather than in the first page (correct me if I'm wrong please):

Then as you suggested check for the variable in page 2

What I also need to check is that someone else hasn't hopped in on the
details page and entered there own details to create further certificates
without doing the test by pressing the back button from the certificate
page. I think I can also use this to check for using the back button so that
someone doesn't manipulate previous answers to get the right outcome without
reviewing the material. I think if I retain the variable acvtivePage but
change its value page to page I can do this. Again correct me if I'm wrong
but the code in page 2 might look like this:

Then in page 3 check that session.activePage has a value of 2, then in page
4 check that session.activePage has a value of 3 etc This way if someone
hits the back button on say page 4 session.activePage would have a value of
3 whereas it should be 2 so the user should be sent back to index.cfm (but
I'm not quite sure how to code this come to think of it - I think I've got
it right).

you could set some kind of variable (ie session, cookie, url, etc) that
would only be
set on page 1 and if it doesn't exist then them to page 1. Code
example below.

A little while ago I wrote to the list seeking some advice on how I could
ensure that a given page could not be loaded (lets call it B) unless the
user had come, by some means, from another specified page (lets call it A),
i.e. if the user went to direct to page B they would automatically be
directed back to page A.

Thank you to all of those that replied.

Because I'm not using forms in this app, using hidden fields, doesn't seem
workable. Someone suggested that I use HTTP Referrer but its unclear to me
how to use this, despite some research. Can anyone give me some
samples/examples on how to code this please.

I don't think that CFTOKEN is generated based on your IP address. To the
best of my knowledge, it's generated using internal state information (time,
etc) within CF without regard to any info from the browser. CF will generate
a CFID and CFTOKEN for each user that doesn't send those variables back,
regardless of IP address.

obviously, not for other users.

To change this in IE:

Open Tools/Internet Options

Scroll down to the Security section - "Warn if changing between secure and
not secure mode"

In Netscape:

Open Communicator/Toos/Security Info
Click on Navigator
Uncheck the "Show warning before leaving an encrypted site" checkbox

I would just use the cf_excel custom tag (which we have installed) but I
need more control than that affords. I've got it working now, at least on my

Thanks for the info, though. I might try playing with cffile for this, but
that requires asking permission from the server guys.

Secure to unsecure

2001-03-06 Thread Cami Lawson

I have a page that is secure and within the page is a help link that pops up a
secondary window with the appropriate help information. All is well except that when
the secondary window opens I also get a message about leaving a secure site. How can
I stop this message, it happens in IE and Netscape?

TIA,

Since I posted I figured out that if I put all my code on line 1, I don't
have the white space problem. But, sheesh. Talk about ugly code!

I'll try cfsilent, too.

Are you creating the spreadsheet via CFContent, a CSV or COM?

If it's a CFContent then you really have to be careful with the output -
ensure you're laying it out in a Table

If you're using a CSV, then build it as a string and write it with a CFFile

If you're using COM, then I can't see how any blanks get in...

Re: Remote Modifying MS SQL

2001-03-06 Thread Jon Hall

You need to register the SQL Server that you are connecting to in Enterprise
Manager.
Just click Action/New SQL Server Registration
Type the IP address of the isp's SQL Server into Available Server's and
click Add
Use the SQL Server login and type in the Username and Password the isp gives
you.

Most isp's will not let you create a database though. You need to call them
and have them create it and give you a username and password. Then you can
log in and create your tables or whatever you want.

SQL Server Developers Edition is free for developers. So no you dont have to
buy it ;-)

RE: line breaks in excel

2001-03-06 Thread Patricia Lee

Try too. It's a bit tricky because will severly
repress your output in that you might have to specify in cases
where it was before not necessary.

When creating a cf page that talks to flash white space is also anathema,
and I've learned that the combination cfsilent and cfsetting works to strip
out even the most persistent white space maybe it will help.

RE: Need some help with CFCONTENT

2001-03-06 Thread Patricia Lee

A while back I was trying to map extensions to mime types. I looked in my
registry and copied a bunch of mime types that were listed for the
extensions. This kis what I have for exe.

application/x-msdownload

maybe try that instead of application/octet-stream?

Need some help with CFCONTENT

2001-03-06 Thread Tracy Bost

I'm trying to allow users to download particular files which are executables.
I'm also specifying the filepath for the executable.

If I use some bogus mime type in the cfcontent, I get the download dialog box with the
coldfusion file name inside of
it such as coldfusionfile.cfm... When I save, it saves the executable that I have
specified inside the cfcontent tag.
I just have to rename the file from coldfusionfile.cfm to myexcutable.exe, and it
works...

I would like to eliminate the step of having the users change the .cfm to .exe in the
"save as" box, or renaming the file once downloaded...
Have tried using application/octet-stream for the file type, but this just shows
binary data in the browser window and doesn't download anything.

 Thanks for any help.

create database myDatabase

It's that simple!
You'll need to make a new ODBC/OLEDB to it unless you want it hidden and
refer to it as myDatabase.dbo.myTable all of the time

A request

2001-03-06 Thread Philip Arnold - ASP

I know I put my phone number in my Sig - the amount I post, I'm hardly
likely to take it off every post

Can people not phone me to ask for help - I've had a few now, and although
I'm normally willing to help (it's why I'm on CF-Talk), I'm usually too busy
to spend 5-10 mins on the phone to people

I normally answer emails during "thinking time", so if you really want a bit
of personal help - email me and ask directly - I'll see what I can do
(including calling people back)...

Remote Modifying MS SQL

2001-03-06 Thread Chad Gray

I searched the FAQ, and Archives, and did not see anything obvious.

How do i connect to a remote SQL server so i can create a new DB? I played
with the demo version of MS SQL, and it came with a client to connect to a
remote SQL server. Do i have to buy this client?

I will be using a comma delimited file supplied by the client, and i need
to get this file into the MS SQL server at our web host.

Thanks,
Chad

RE: Loops and Update queries

2001-03-06 Thread Patricia Lee

I have an idea.

List Functions.

I'm assuming a bit, so let me know if I'm wrong (and I'm sure that others
have a less cumbersome way to deal with your problem too, so don't think
what I'm saying is at all the only way).

I'm assuming that Quantity looks something like this: 1,2,3,4,5
And Item number looks somethiing like this: F004,F005,F006,F007

And F004 has a quantity of 1; F005 has a quantity of 2 etc.

Take a look at this code... I've mocked up the same functionality set a
counter, incremented the counter while looping over one of my lists and then
used that counter to retreive a list element at the poisitoin represented by
the counter.

Counter = #counter# Qty = #qty#
list2 = #ListGetAt(list2, counter)#

Output looks like:

Counter = 1 Qty = 1 list2 = mom
Counter = 2 Qty = 2 list2 = pop
Counter = 3 Qty = 3 list2 = dad
Counter = 4 Qty = 4 list2 = sis

So all you'd have to do is loop over your quantity, find the representative
list element and then input both into the db via your query, which is of
course nested in the loop.

RE: Check out your ISP (was ISP's with CF)

2001-03-06 Thread Raymond Camden

Hmm, why did you have to recode your site if it was static? (Well, you said
it was non-CF, so I guess it could be ASP.) I mean, if you reference
imagines as img src="/images/foo.gif", don't tell me they actually made you
use a new directory name. If your site is dynamic, no matter what the
technology is, if you do any kind of file reading and need absolute paths,
be sure to keep the base directory as a global var. Then the ISP can move
you around and it's no big deal.

OT: Check out your ISP (was ISP's with CF)

2001-03-06 Thread David Hannum

Lesson learned: Check out how your ISP does business BEFORE you put
valuable sites on them. Case in point. I have an ISP that I put NON-CF
sites on. This past weekend, they have hardware problems. First, their
primary RAID failed, then in the process of restoring, the backup failed
too. This in and of itself could be forgiven, BUT (and it's a BIG BUT),
they had no tape or CD backups, so every single website and everything in
their MySQL database was lost. Then, to add insult to injury, when they
rebuilt their system, they completely changed their directory structure, so
not only must you re-upload your sites, but you must also recode your site
to match their new directory structure.

Lesson here - back up your site once a week yourself and ASK QUESTIONS.
Don't assume that "backup" means "tape or CD backup".

Dave

OT:Looking for an Oracle person for a little job.

2001-03-06 Thread Jeff Fongemie

Hello Cf-Talk,

I have a project that was developed using an access database, and
the client has Oracle. The Oracle database is very small, 5 tables,
and while each is populated with a couple records, one is populated
with name and address info of about 500 dealers.

The project is simple, using CF to let the client add news and
headlines to a news page, and a dealer search.

So, I'm looking for someone who has experience converting Access to
  Oracle.

I can provide a copy Access Database by email, and would like a
quote on the job if possible.

  Can provide more details...

Best regards,

RE: CF Function PART 2

2001-03-06 Thread Aidan Whitehall

> geesh, i wonder who else on this list doesn't have a sense of humor.

Plenty of people on this list have a sense of humour.

They *also* happen to have jobs, deadlines, other mailing lists, spouses,
responsibilities, lives away from the computer... need I go on?

No-one minds the odd wise-crack, but you seem to be making a habit recently
of posting unnecessary messages to the list (if you find a girl's name cute,
send your e-mail to her off the list next time).

There's enough traffic already.

And, as a side-note, where I come from, "hey, is there a coldfusion function
to make a killer beef fajita?" doesn't exactly constitute a joke.

Re: Loops and Update queries

2001-03-06 Thread Shannon Carr

Hi Patricia,

No errors, just not sure how to write the syntax to make it work. The
problem I'm having is inputing a quanity in a form that was generated by a
loop, then on the next page updating a table where the Quantity is paired
with Item_Number.So far I can produce what I need in two separate places.
Don't know how to combine the two.

Note - F004 should have Quantity of 1
F065 Quantityof 2
A400 Quantity of 3

ACTION PAGE TOP:

#The_Item_Number#

  UPDDATE BOM
  SET QUANTITY = '#TheQuantity#'
   WHERE DRAWING_NUMBER = '#DRAWING_NUMBER#' AND ITEM_NUMBER = ???

ACTION PAGE DISPLAY:
F004
F065
A400
UPDDATE BOM SET QUANTITY = '1' WHERE DRAWING_NUMBER = 3000-04

UPDDATE BOM SET QUANTITY = '2' WHERE DRAWING_NUMBER = 3000-04

UPDDATE BOM SET QUANTITY = '3' WHERE DRAWING_NUMBER = 3000-04

Another Security Question...

2001-03-06 Thread Vance Duke

I figured out the other Advanced Security issue and I wanted to say thank
you.

Now I have another question. I have a Security context with all Domain
Users allowed the access the application. No problem there. NOW, I want to
limit a part of the application to just a certain subset of domain users
setup in a User Group. Those users would have access to the main part of
the application, but also need access to the HR functions. Do I need to set
up another security context and Authorize them against that context also (in
other words, 2 CFAuthenticate statements)? Or how would I do that? How do
I know that they are part of that User Group when they log in?

Thanks for the help,
Vance Duke

RE: Multiple Query Problem

2001-03-06 Thread Todd Stanley

Nick's right, you should do it in a join. In case you are wondering why the
other way didn't work, it's because you aren't looping over the values of
the first query when you get to the second query. You'd need to do
something like this:

SELECT * FROM prod
WHERE cat_id = '1' AND active = '1'
ORDER BY prod_priority

Select *
>From variants
WHERE prod_id = #get_prod.prod_id#

But don't do that. Do the JOIN.

Why not do a join ?

SELECT * FROM prod p, variants v
WHERE p.cat_id = '1' AND p.active = '1' AND p.prod_id = v.prod_id
ORDER BY p.prod_priority

To anyone who can help,

I am trying to output a list of records on a page, also nested in this list
are individually populated
drop down boxes which has values determined by the parent record. But before
I get to this stage I can't get the query
syntax right.

I can't quite get the query syntax right, below is what I have tried but I
only seem to get 1 variant and no more.
All the records are there but can't seem to output them. I have also tried
tag but still can't get any more than
one row out of get_variants.

SELECT * FROM prod
WHERE cat_id = '1' AND active = '1'
ORDER BY prod_priority

Select *
>From variants
WHERE prod_id = #get_prod.prod_id#

Am probably being stuuupid due to sleep depravation.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Cheers

Chris.

Authorize.net works great with a simple cfhttp call. I use Ralph
