Connecting cf mx and oracle 9i

2004-09-12 Thread mark brinkworth
Trying to connect a server running CFMX to an Oracle
9i server, through a firewall. It seems that in
addition to port 1521, another randomly assigned port
is required. Does anyone know what this port is for,
and if it is possible to lock it down to a particular port?

Thanks Dave,actually it's not ColdFusion I need help with.The
Flash has to use an XML file, and that can be generated by anything.
Thanks for the warning,I'll make sure I dont mention ColdFusion at

I've found PHP people get in a tizz before if you mention ColdFusion.
Instead of discussing the issue at hand, you waste time debating over
whether PHP is better than ColdFusion.(In that case I wanted to try
to have a PHP user consume a web service but never did get any help,
even after 4 months of trying.I ended up giving up on it).

We have had trouble get mail to AOL users as well. AOL told us that it
was because are mail server didn't have a PTR record. We got one add

 Subject: SMTP or Telnet tools?

Hi,

I'm looking for a way that I can execute a telnet/smtp session from my CF
code and be able to review the responses from the smtp server for each
 command that is sent.

 For example, something like this:

 Open connection to mail.94percent.com
 send helo command
 read response
 send mail from: command
 read response
 send rcpt to: command
 read response
 send data command
send data and . on last line to finish the send.

I would obviously be adding some conditional code in there to take
appropriate action based on the responses.

I'm on CF MX 6.1 (updater 3) and have tried to use both IPWorks COM object
and TCPCLIENT COM object to no avail. My server just freezes when I try to
create the object.I'm assuming they're not compatible with mx 6.1.

 Any ideas?

 Thanks!

HELP with verity

2004-09-12 Thread Andrew Magill
Hi

Having a problem outputting info from a verity search.

At the moment the output just displays a long vertical list of the product
#title#

I would like to output from a verity search to a multi-page (Prev +
Next)

Template that displays results in a table (4 cols x 4 rows)

The important thing is I don't want it to output just the #title# I wish it
to also look up the #img_thumb#

Field and display the relevant product image thumb nail with the relevant
#product_ID# set into the URL link.

Did this make any sense?

Any help much appreciated

RE: HELP with verity

2004-09-12 Thread Ewok
Like Doug said, you can use the Cistom1 and Custom2 to pass along special
values when you index your information. You can also use the StartROw and
MaxRows attributes of the CFSearch tag to display a certain number of
records per page…

Say 10 per page….

cfset MaxRowsPerPage = 10

cfparam name=”url.startrow” default=”1”

cfset NextStartRow = val(url.startrow) + #val(MaxRowsPerPage)#

CFSearch Name=”mysearch”

Colleciont=”MyCollection”

Type=”criteria”

Maxrows=”#MaxRowsPerPage#”

StartRow=”#val(url.startrow)# “

When you output your links to the next page, just make sure to add
?startrow=#val(NextStartRow)# to your query string

This is by no means tested, working code but hopefully you get the general
idea. You’ll have to add some checking to make sure you have enough records
to display “Next Page” links or whatever.

If you CFINDEX’d your collection passing your image ID, or name via Custom1,
then each record will have #Custom1# with that value in it.

Hope this helps somehow.

Oracle - Windows TNS Listener Service shuts down

2004-09-12 Thread S . Isaac Dealey
I'm running an Oracle 9i database on Win2K server. Everything works
fine, until I connect to it with ColdFusion (6.1 with the updater).
After the CF request completes, the Oracle TNS Listeners service in
Windows shuts down. No warning, no error, no explanation. Has anyone
else seen or heard of this or anything similar? I'm using the Oracle
thin client driver if that matters.

RE: CURSOR or CFLOOP

2004-09-12 Thread Jim Davis
Generally doing as much as you can in the DB is more performant.

To do the CF solution you have to make many DB calls (all of which get
validated, use up network resources and spend some time on the driver). In
the SP solution you pass one thing to the DB, the DB churns a bit then you
get back one answer.

There are reasons for doing it in CF (maintenance, simplification of the DB,
etc), but I've never seen any performance arguments.;^)

Dynamic extends parameter?

2004-09-12 Thread Micha Schopman
I am getting errors when using a dynamic extends value in a CFC. My guess is, this has to do with builtin Java inheritance rules which are not allowed to be dynamically defined, is this correct?

The method invoked in the extends parameter, returns a full ColdFusion component path as a string. In this case it would return iManage2004.wwwroot.objects.shared.aim

I use this to override methods for a system wide shared aim.cfc into customer specific aim.cfc components.

cfcomponent extends=#server.io.getCFCPath('shared','aim')#
 cffunction name=check access=public returntype=array
cfargument name=instanceid type=numeric required=true
cfset var dependencies = arrayNew(1) /

RE: XP SP2 Conflict w/CFMX

2004-09-12 Thread Jim Davis
The only issue you should have faced with SP2 is that the XP Firewall would
be enabled by default thus blocked the non-standard port than the built-in
CF Server defaults to.

Opening that port (I think it's 8080. but I can't remember for sure) should
solve your problems.

Beyond that could you offer some more details as to what's happening?

Re: Dynamic extends parameter?

2004-09-12 Thread Dave Carabetta

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
I am getting errors when using a dynamic extends value in a CFC. My guess is, this has to do with builtin Java inheritance rules which are not allowed to be dynamically defined, is this correct?

The method invoked in the extends parameter, returns a full ColdFusion component path as a string. In this case it would return iManage2004.wwwroot.objects.shared.aim

I use this to override methods for a system wide shared aim.cfc into customer specific aim.cfc components.

 cfcomponent extends=#server.io.getCFCPath('shared','aim')#
cffunction name=check access=public returntype=array
cfargument name=instanceid type=numeric required=true
cfset var dependencies = arrayNew(1) /

cfreturn dependencies
/cffunction
 /cfcomponent

You're assumption is correct. The extends attribute is a
compile-time directive, and since the value of your variable is not
know until runtime, ColdFusion throws an error.

Dave.

But what's happening is that the 3rd record through should be checked,

This small code block should show you the err of your ways…

cfparam name=form.test default=0

The value is cfoutput#form.test#/cfoutput

form name=test action="" method=post

1 input type=radio name=test value=1cfif form.test is 1
checked/cfifbr

2 input type=radio name=test value=2cfif form.test is 2
checked/cfifbr

3 input type=radio name=test value=3cfif form.test is 3
checked/cfifbr

input type=submit name=submit

/form

In your case, all of your fields have the same value so if one is checked,
the last one will ALWAYS be it…

It runs down like this…

If 1 then checked

If 1 then checked

If 1 then checked

The last if is always going to be the one.

If you changed them to checkboxes just for the sake of seeing the results…
all of them should be checked with the code you have. But since they are
radios, the last one it checks will be the only one on.

AddHandler jrun-handler .cfm .cfc .cfml .jsp .jws

and put in my httpd.conf file but it brings up this error when i start httpd

Dynamic Double Select box

2004-09-12 Thread Mark Henderson
I'm just wondering what is there is an easy way to populate a second select list based on the first select list option. Is this best done using _javascript_ or is there a coldfusion way of achieving this?

Here is what I'm after in the nutshell...

form name=selectDbase method=post
action="">
selectsize=1 name=type
option selectedSelect a database/option
option value=clientclient/option
option value=client_testclient_test/option
/select

And from this first selection (which is hard coded and doesn't need to come from a query) I then want the second select box populated from either the client or client_test table, depending on the option above chosen.

selectsize=1 name=town
option selectedSelect a database/option
cfoutput query=dbase_name !-- where dbase name is the name of the first select dropdown - either client or client_test ---
option value=#town##town#/option
/cfoutput
/select
input type=submit name=emailUsers value=email users
class=button /
/form

Either way, I only query the town field of either database. I know the form is going to probably have to submit to itself to populate the second select field, I'm just not sure how to achieve this.

I'm aware of a couple of custom tags, but these all use a single query to populate the select boxes and thats the very thing I need changing.

Any ideas or possible solutions?

I have been using qForms from www.pengoworks.com for awhile now. It is a
great, cross browser API for this type of stuff.
You don't have to use query results with it per se, but you create
structures (JS) to relate elements, etc. Gimme a hollar off list if you
need a hand with it.

RE: Dynamic Double Select box

I suck at explaining code so here is my explanation in code… (doesn’t mean
it works)

!--- make a valid list of tables to choose from for the second field ---

cfset goodtables = clients,client_tests,whateverelse

!--- make a list of displaytext for the good tables (positions must match)
---

cfset displaytext = CLients,Client Tests,Whatever Else

!--- make sure the field exists and has a valid table to choose from ---

cfif isdefined(form.firstfield) and listfindnocase(goodtables,
form.firstfield)

cfset GetSecondRecs = True

cfelse

cfset GetSecondRecs = False

/cfif

!--- if getsecondrecs is true then get the records form the table that is
in the list at form.firstfields position---

!--- you could make the values of the fields the names of the tables, but I
wouldnt suggest putting your table names in plain view ---

cfif GetSecondRecs

cfquery name=MyQuery datasource=#datasource#

Select Record from #ListGetat(goodtables, form.firstfield)#

/cfquery

/cfif

cfoutput

form name=test action="" method=post

select name=firstfield size=1 >

option value=0--- MAKE A SELECTION ---/option

cfloop from=1 to=#listLen(goodtables)# index=i

option value=#i#cfif form.firstfield is i
selected/cfif#listgetat(displaytext, i)#/option

/cfloop

/select

select name=secondfield size=1

option value=0--- MAKE A SELECTION ---/option

cfif GetSecondRecs

cfloop query=MyQuery

option value=#recordid#cfif
form.firstfield is recorded selected/cfif#displaytext#/option

/cfloop

/cfif

/select

br /

input type=submit name=submitit value=submit me /

/form

/cfoutput

!--- only include your action page (or next page) if the submit button was
used to submit ---

cfif isdefined(form.submitme)

The button was clicked so do your validation and continue on from here

/cfif

This all looks in order. Just try changing the GoodTables list to your table
names and see what happens.

It should populate the first field initially, once a change is made on it,
it should submit and get the records from MyQuery(which table depends on
the value of the first field) and populate the second field with it.

It should also remember the first field selection and keep it selected.

It should also only show the text “The button was clicked so do your
validation and continue on from here” when the submit button is actually
clicked and not when the onchange causes the submit.

Like I said, it LOOKS in order but I didn’t test it. But the whole thing
flows like what it sounds like you need.

RE: Oracle - Windows TNS Listener Service shuts down

2004-09-12 Thread S . Isaac Dealey
Don’t mean to point out the obvious but that’s the best
 place to start

Was it happening before the update?

Are you sure event viewer has nothing about the service?

Have you checked your listener.log file?

D'oh! ... Nothing in the listener.log file about it shutting down,
just info about it starting up. Event viewer is less than helpful. I
have this in the system log:

The OracleOraHome92TNSListener service terminated unexpectedly.It
has done this 1 time(s).The following corrective action will be
taken in 0 milliseconds: Restart the service.

I edited the service to restart itself 0 minutes after every
failure... Not the best solution, especially given that this will fill
up my system log rather quickly, but it's what works at the moment.

The experts exhange link you posted is still a bit over my head at
this point. Thanks for the info tho. :)

I wasn't able to get MX to connect to Oracle prior to the update (even
when I knew the tns service was running), although I did change some
of my dsn settings after the update to finally get connected, so in
all honesty I'm not sure if it would have behaved like this before the
update.

you wanted here without the first field coming from the database. I guess
you could build a query structure to use with your static data instead, but
there are a ton of other things that make it great.

We have also been using Terraforms lately. MANY MANY MANY features!

thanks to both Michael and Bobby for your respective solutions. I have
Bobby's revised addition working like a charm, however qForms looks like a
great tool so I'm taking a peek at that now.

Re: apache not starting, LoadModule

2004-09-12 Thread Josh
go ahead and reinstall the connector to apache.

you can do this by simply running the apache shell script located here:

/opt/coldfusionmx/bin/connectors/

make sure to edit the file and put in your settings specific to your
install...

Hope that helps,

Josh

I'm just going through a query. When I run my query through SQL Query
analyzer, the third record is the one with the flag of '1', when I dump
the query the third record is the one with the flag of '1' - but still
it's the fifth radio button that gets set to 'checked'.

I also have it set up so that only one record can ever be set to one.I
dunno. It's an amatuer error somewhere I'm sure.

Hello All ,

I need some direction regarding custom tags/programsto convert CF / HTML

I have found a couple of sources while googling but they seem to be pretty
expensive.
Does anyone know ofcheap/free alternative that I can use?

JRun instances for each site and sequestering/limiting each sites RAM?
 Curious.

input type=Radio name=blnLgBnrActive cfif
getInspirationsPEBanner.blnLgBnrActive IS 1value=1 checked=Yes
cfelse value=0 checked=No/cfif

But what's happening is that the 3rd record through should be checked,
since getInspirationsPEBanner.blnLgBnrActive EQ 1, but no, the last record
is getting checked. I can do this stuff, I just need a fresh set of eyes

I have a bunch of stuff stored in an application structure in an application I support. The structure is several megabytes; I've never looked at exactly how much memory it uses.

The one thing I would caution about is that re-loading the structure into memory when you re-start your server can be painfully slow, depending on processing you need to do on the individual elements of the structure.

well.. which one? :) i did

I need to add in the correct LoadModule info to httpd.conf -- or maybe I have it but it's throwing an error. I accidentally overwrote the file removing the LoadModule data, when I found a sample online I plugged it in but it's giving me the below error.

Re: apache not starting, LoadModule

to execute the script do this:

./apache_connector.sh

but first, edit the file to make sure it matches your config.

I don't use the standard load module, or I'd give you the solution.

If it is easier for you, just reinstall CF.

the script runs ... this is the response:

Found JRun server default at 127.0.0.1:2901
This web server is already configured for JRun.

and i agree, i think it would be easier to reinstall, but when i did it wouldnt let me install cfmx, only an update or 30 day eval. im installing off the downloaded installer, not a cd.

let me try an uninstall first .. i couldnt find the unistall script but i think i found it now.

I intend to load some fairly simple stuff straight out of the database which on the whole won't require any processing, so a server re-start shouldn't be too serious. My host uses MX6.1.
