Any recommendations for (threaded) discussion groups based in CF? Ideally,
I'm looking for something that is:

1. CF-based
2. Compatible with SQL-Server backend
3. Full access to source code (either as open source, or via purchasing)
4. Capable of handling high volumes (1000 postings per day)

Is it feasible to create an online back-up system with CF?

2005-01-30 Thread Rick
Good morning...

I'm going to be offering online (Internet-based) backup/storage for my
clients
and have been looking at various solutions (non-CF) already offered and
began to wonder if it was possible to create a browser-based backup system
using CF and perhaps scheduled tasks to backup files via http or to ftp
accounts.

Anyone tried anything like this?

I've found some solutions, but I have to end up spending about $100 for
software per PC to be backed up and that's a steep price per machine just
to get them started.

Also...anyone know if it's possible to offer this kind of service using any
FTP
capabilities that might be built-in to Windows 2003 Server Web Edition?

Currently using CF 4.5.2 and Windows 2000 Server, but could upgrade
if the upgrade provides appropriate capabilities towards my goals...

Ideas?

Thanks,

Rick

OpenOffice.org files. (They are really just zip'ed XML files that

Using ant 1.6.2 with CFMX

2005-01-30 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I wonder why the ant classes (Version 1.5) have to be integrated in
jrun.jar?

Because of this, we are not able to use ANT version 1.6.2 with CFMX.
Adding the ANT 1.6.2 jar to the classpath doesn't help, because of the
jrun.jar being loaded before the ant.jar. So we had and have problems if
we build applications using ant taskdefs.

Do you know a workaround for this problem?
This problem is not only related to ant, what happens if we use
different versions of itext, sax ... in custom applications?

Thanks,
Florian

Forcing dowload of text file, unformatted

2005-01-30 Thread Richard Colman

How do I force the download of a TEXT file to the client browser? I tried
this, but it gives me a strange filename. What I want for a filename is:

Assemblymap_1006.txt

Instead I get

Kit_download_assemblymap.cfm

For the filename.

So what am I doing wrong:

CFHEADER NAME=Cache-Control VALUE=0
CFHEADER name=Content-type value=application/octet-stream
CFHEADER name=Content-Disposition value=attachment;
filename=assemblymap_#url.id#.txt
cfcontent file=assemblymap_#url.id#.txt type=application/octet-stream

ALSO, I need to download UNFORMATTED text as it appears in the original
file. The downloaded file seems to have spaces and linebreaks removed. I can
do it on the screen with a pre tag.

please advise if you can. TNX.

I wrote this tag up to do file pushes of all kinds. The example below
will force open a show/save dialog. If you want to display in the
browser window itself,
To send a txt file straight to the browser for display (maintaining
your formatting) change variables.DisplayType to inline.

!--- the tag call ---
cfset variables.FilePath=z:\myfiles\ftp\
cfset variables.FileName=mysecretfile.txt
cfset variables.MIMEType=text/plain
cfset variables.DisplayType=attachment
cf_pushfile
  FilePath=#variables.FilePath#
  FileName=#variables.FileName#
  MIMEType=#variables.MIMEType#
  DisplayType=#variables.DisplayType#

!--- cf_pushfile ---
cfset variables.FileToPush=attributes.FilePathattributes.FileName
cfheader
   name=content-disposition
   value=#attributes.DisplayType#; filename=#attributes.FileName#
cfcontent
   type=#attributes.MIMEType#

RE: Quick Poll - what kind of files do you use every day?

2005-01-30 Thread Ben Rogers
Others mentioned SQL and ASP (which should include .asa). Theoretically,
this could include ASP.Net, but ASP.Net already has a couple of very nice
IDEs.

Though less common, I still have several sites out there that use server
side includes (.shtm and .shtml). Most of these are moving to
Dreamweaver/Contribute templates (.dwt).

In addition to writing bat (.bat and .cmd) scripts, I write a number of
Windows Scripting Host files (.js and .vbs) for server maintenance and such.
I also write sieve scripts for mail server spam filtering, but I've never
seen a standard extension for those.

I commonly edit ini (.ini) files from within an IDE as most applications
store their config in an initialization file, a java properties file, or an
XML file. Besides .xml, there are a number of common extensions for XML
files (.svg, .xsd, .config, .rss, .rdf, .opml, .cml).

I have to admit, I've very intrigued by the question. :)

For those of us doing PHP work from time to time, especially with PHPBB or
vBulletin, .tpl files are common. They are the files that coincide with the
styles/skins that those applications use.

Also, it turns out that my formatting problem results from the original text

The XML format.

More generalized: support for compressed versions (zip, gzip and

Re: MySQL on CFMX

2005-01-30 Thread Barney Boisvert
I use 4.1 exclusively. It's got some nice advantages over 4.0 and
3.23, such as subqueries, column-level character set support, proper
handling of temporary tables in transactions, and a few other things.
Which isn't to say 4.0 or 3.23 is a bad way to go, just you're goingto
be missing out on some of those features. Subqueries, in particular.

CF-based Online Backup System...any thoughts?

2005-01-30 Thread Rick
Doable? Been Done?

Any thoughts on what I asked about earlier?

---

Ideas?

Thanks,

Rick

No way. FTP uses plain text transfers including plain text

Yes to all of the above...

Then you are in for a fat client, because file encryption is not
going to work from a browser / HTTP based solution.

You might want to check out what subscription based commercial
solutions are available in your area. Most telco's here work with
at least one backup provider for their business lines.

Re: CF-based Online Backup System...any thoughts?

2005-01-30 Thread Rob Munn
As Jochem suggests, you need some sort of client to enable the
functionality. WebDAV support on the server side is something you need to
deal with separately, but it sounds like you have an idea of what that would
entail. Check the WebDAV site for more details if you need it:

http://www.webdav.org/projects/

My thinking is that you could access WebDAV bits written in Java from CFMX
to deal with the server side issues. I looked at doing this at one point in
the past, but WebDAV support was not as robust as it is today.

For the client side, I've never seen it, but my guess about WebDrive is that
they have some sort of ActiveX desktop component you have to download and
install on the client PC to enable this support. Look at how RDS works in
Homesite+/DW. The client side is a component that installs onto your desktop
and integrates with IE.

Image popup UDF

2005-01-30 Thread Will Tomlinson
I got tired of linking to an original image via target =_blank to enlarge the
view. There's no control over it. So I built a variation of Nate's popup window
UDF from WACK.

Here's what I've come up with, maybe someone has some improvements? Would a

Correct.

Correct.

So with that password somebody can access the backups and

Re: cfeclipse

2005-01-30 Thread Rob
There is no way to use RDS (if that's what you need). To use FTP with
the stable version you can import and export projects (you may
have to get the FTP and WebDav plugin - HelpSoftware UpdatesFind
and Install... and look in the Eclipse.org bookmark).

If you are using the non-stable you can use the file explorer view
to edit remote ftp files, but you can not create / delete remote files
yet.

Right now, for the sites I have to upload, I code local and then use
Ant or Fugu (a separate tool) to upload them - I consider it to be
better practice to code local and only upload when done, but I know
reality is not always that kind.

So - long way around - if you're not using FTP you can't

Cheers,
Rob

Re: cfeclipse

2005-01-30 Thread Spike
I can't answer for the Eclipse project itself, but we plan to support
FTP and SFTP through something similar to the existing Navigator view.

The basic idea being that you can right-click on a file and folder and
choose get/put/synchronize. When you choose one of those options you are
presented with a dialog box that allows you to specify the FTP server
and relative path details. If you have previously performed an FTP
operation on that file/folder, or one of it's ancestors in the project
tree, those details will be prefilled in the dialog. We might also keep
a history of FTP connections per tree location so you can choose push
to a staging server or to a live server for example without having to
remember and type in the connection details for each.

Re: Is it feasible to create an online back-up system with CF?

2005-01-30 Thread Jon Austin
I'm sure there is a way to programatically add FTP accounts to your
windows box using CF. The user then clicks a link opening thier FTP
account in the browser and drag and drop the files to be backed up.
You can then sweep the directory of each user when they login and
present the files for download via HTTP.

Something like this? The only problem is that it is user initiated,
but you could create a script that they schedule to run on thier
machine to initate the backup.

Jon

Re: cfeclipse

2005-01-30 Thread Jared Rypka-Hauer - CMG, LLC
Personally, I really LIKE the FTP/WebDAV method...

And it fits well with Rob's write local/publish remote best practices idea.

However, there's a bug in the FTP tool that will result in an error
message that reads:

Site Missing for {ftp URL}

I've traced it back to the FTP plugin not writing configuration
information for a second site, possibly a second FTP URL at the same
IP? That's where I've run into it the worst.

While I don't have time to actually get into dealing with the Java to
fix it, I do know what the problem is an am working on finding a
workaround. The issue is that it creates a several-character signature
that links the Eclipse project to the FTP URL, and I haven't found a
reliable means to detect/edit it and insert it into the config file.

The config file for the FTP/WebDAV plugin is at:
\eclipse\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.team.core\.targetSites

The signature for the site is a mix of null characters and other
special characters tailed with a 3-letter code...

So, I'll let you know when I know more...

J

Re: better way to code?

2005-01-30 Thread Chris Jensen
Claude Schneegans wrote:
It seems to use the power of CF more.

It may be, but is it really what makes good code?

The first code is more intuitive , logical and it corresponds to the
 real situation.
It explains more clearly the two situations that can be encountered.
The second code leads to think that the second case is an error of the
 first, which is not true.
And BTW, the first code could still be embeded inside a CFTRY to handle
 true errors, ...
and use all the power of CF! ;-)

Also, the use of try/catch in this way is generally not so great because
you could catch more than you bargained for.
Using the if, you're testing for a very specific condition that you can
anticipate and handle.
With the catch, you will not only catch the exception you expect, but
anything else which you don't expect, which you probably should be
letting get thrown up to the caller rather than be caught.

In general, when dealing with exceptions, you should catch only that
which you expect and can deal with, anything else should be allowed to
be thrown up to the caller which may understand the context of the
exception better, and so be better equipped to handle it.

Obviously in this simple example, there isn't much else that could go
wrong to cause an exception to be thrown, but it's something to keep in
mind.

Selecting one record and potentially two others.

2005-01-30 Thread Ian Skinner
For those good SQL types out there.

I need a query that will pick one record by it's id, this part is easy.
What I would like is a query that picks this one record and the record
immediatly before it and after it by id sequence, if they exist. An
example may be clearer.

ID image photographer
1 a.jpg Sam
2 b.jpg Sam
3 c.jpg Sam
7 d.jpg George
8 f.jpg George
10 g.jpg George
11 h.jpg George
12 i.jpg George

If id 2 is passed I would like records 1, 2, and 3.
If id 3 is passied I would like records 2 and 3, only want records of
the same photographer as the passed ID.
if id 10 is passed I would like records 8, 10 and 11, even though there
is a gap, I would like three records.

I suspect I need sub-selects, but I can not quite picture how they would
go together. This is against a SQL Server DBMS if that matters.

Thank You.

How about...

DECLARE @H_ID INT

SET @M_ID = 4

i installed it too. The only problem i had was that my db user did not
have permissions to execute the SPs; i added the permission to each SP
manually in enterprise manager, and after that it worked.

I also had to set an email address for the from address in the
administrator before i could register new accounts.

After that, it's been great; i really like it so far.

CFMX and CGLOBAL/CDATA not purging

2005-01-30 Thread Terry Ford
Hey all,

In the process of performing a yearly upgrade I was quite surprised to find
that my CGLOBAL and CDATA tables contained over 20 million (yes, million)
entries each, and the CGLOBAL.MYD file alone had a size of 3.1 gigs.

Needless to say, I had been operating under the assumption that the tables were
purging correctly. Apparantly I was incorrect.

Anyway, I've taken a hatchet to the tabbles and whacked them down to size, and
have verified that indeed the purge option (30 days) is selected.

Does anyone have any clue why my tables aren't purging?
I am running mysql / CFMX6.1 / lotsa mem / dual xeon

Ok, so my 6.1 install isn't going well. The install has placed and
started the server, but without connectors. when I run the manual
install on the connectors (after verifying that the server is running) I
get a message that basically says that the JNDI listening port listed in
the jndi.properties file may not be accessible because of TCP/IP
filtering or a firewall (my firewall was disabled prior to the install,
and filtering isn't enabled). Or that the host may be unaccessible as it
is listed in the security.properties file (I did have to manually add
'localhost' to this file and restart the CFMX server). I've checked the
livedocs, but without any success to these specific issues. Any ideas?

WinXP Pro
CFMX 6.1 (devnet)
ZoneAlarm (disabled)
Windows Firewall (always disabled)

CFSCHEDULE RSS into DB

Great title, I know. Thanks... I'll be here all week...

That said, I've managed to grab a bunch of RSS feeds that I'd like to

I've been told that yes, this is being done before, but I truly need

Thanks in advance!

Re: eclipse css plugin

2005-01-30 Thread Nathan Strutz
To expand on what Rob said, the CSS Editor plugin doesn't have any views
or perspecitves associated with it. However, it does make use of the
Outline view, which CFEclipse uses as well to make an outline of your
code. The editor kicks in right away when you open a .CSS file, assuming
your file associations are hooked up right.

I live in the sticks and only get coverage from ALLTEL.. Cingular

To expand on what Rob said, the CSS Editor plugin doesn't
 have any views
or perspecitves associated with it. However, it does make use of the
Outline view, which CFEclipse uses as well to make an outline of your
code. The editor kicks in right away when you open a .CSS
 file, assuming
your file associations are hooked up right.

That's what threw me off... no views or perspectives. Once I opened up a CSS
file and started defining some styles it worked like a charm.
Thanks guys.

Mike

Ahh...

Scrap this one. Funny thing about sending something to a list--seem to
find answers on my own quicker that way.

Sorry for the noise.

Subject: WAP Devices

I'm trying to do some wap programming, and frankly, all i've got is my
cell phone, which is fine for using WAPs, but its uncomfortable for
testing and debugging (small screen, few colors) and I was wondering
if anyone knew of any wap devices with a qwerty keyboard and a sizable
 screen.

I live in the sticks and only get coverage from ALLTEL.. Cingular
gets... some coverage so its a last resort but I'd prefer an alltel
 solution.

The WML extension for FireFox is particularly handy.

MS SQL 2000 Table Structure Print out

2005-01-30 Thread Nick Baker
MS SQL 2000

I want to show a table structure, and tried the following

CFQUERY NAME=ShowTable DATASOURCE=PartsList
DESCRIBE Pumpparts
/CFQUERY

This only throws an error Could not find stored procedure 'DESCRIBE'.

What am I missing? Or, am I using the wrong thing here?

DESCRIBE table_name

This command provides information about the columns of the table. It shows
the column names, the type / size and scale (if applicable) and other
useful information.

Thanks,

Nick
