return struct to javascript with Opera

2007-06-23 Thread Andrew Grosset
I have a cfc which returns a struct to the javascript via ajax (JSMX), this
works perfectly with IE and firefox but I can't fathom out why in Opera it
doesn't work.

the cfc basicly forma a struct like so:

and in the javascript I use an alert (for testing)
like so:
  alert(ye[0]);

this evaluates correctly in firefox and IE..("my test string")

Opera just shows "undefined" in the alert message

any suggestions?

Andrew.

The Apple site mentions that you can use YouTube from the iPhone. So, I'd be
surprised if there's no Flash Player.

I find the iPhone to be quite underwhelming, actually. It might be a good
phone for non-business people, but it doesn't look as functional as my
two-year-old WM5 phone.

I'm not sure (we'll have to wait for proof) but engadget reported late last
week that the iPhone would NOT have a flash player. Also that it would play
only quicktime video.

I couldn't find the engadget post (maybe I imagined it), but here's another:

http://www.tuaw.com/2007/06/12/its-official-no-flash-support-on-the-iphone-y

Personally I think it's huge mistake, but the hope is that Flash will be
added soon. I'm more worried personally about the possible problems with
the keyboard... apparently it's being reported around from beta users that
the virtual keyboard is complete crap.

I know it can't be that much worse than the virtual keyboard on my 5-year
old Pocket PC but I would have expected it to be much, much better. ;^)
But if you can't type on the thing this isn't going to the BlackBerry killer
that some people are hoping it is.

That is unlikely to make any difference. Are you only getting this error
using the Java browser applet? You don't need that to set up your Access
datasource. Are you using a drive mapping to get to this remote Access file?
CF doesn't know about drive mappings, unless you created persistent drive
mappings using the same account in which CF is running.

Thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling CF as well. Even thinking as
this is only a development machine maybe trying CF8.

Any ideas on whether this would be a reasonable approach?

How to architect question: custom fields

2007-06-23 Thread Eric J. Hoffman
We have an app, and differing clients are layering on top of the system,
and each would like a few custom questions asked.

So, I am faced with creating this and am wondering if anyone had some
experience they can share. Basically create an add-on to allow custom
fields.

I created a client table so we can track which clients are active with
custom fields; then another table that says what the clientID is and a
row for custom field names.

Now I am stuck. So am I going in the right direction...another table
with the data input with the ID of the custom field name and the value
input in the form, dunnobut I am confused as how do I notate INT,
nvarchar, any length limits, etc. Guess I am wondering how folks
approach this scenario

Thanks.

Re: Server Error

2007-06-23 Thread Dean Lawrence
Pete,

This sounds like a file permissions issue. CF admin still uses a java
file browser to view the file system. If it cannot gain access to the
file system, you get this error. There is also a setting in the Admin
to allow this feature or not (I don't remember where or what it is
called), which if turned off, you will also get this error. More than
likely Vista has locked down the permissions on the folder though.

However, this has no affect on the use of the datasourse. All you need
to do is copy the path from Windows Explorer and paste it into the
path field in the datasource setup. The connection should work just
fine.

Hope this helps,

Dean

What account is the ColdFusion server running as? If it's running as the

Presumably, the Access file is on this other server?

What happens when you try to browse the server yourself, from the Vista

Hi there

I dont think its an access problem - it was working with CF7.02 previously
without any problems. I think it has to be a CF7-Vista issue and quite
likely a CF error or permission setting. I get the same error message when
I try to browse for files when trying to set up mappings.

You can also try to connect to your datasource using a JDBC driver
like this:

jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=[Full path to

Re: Server Error

2007-06-23 Thread [Sunshine Tech Solutions] Ravi Gehlot
Hey Pete,

Check to see if your version of access works fine with ColdFusion 7.0.2.
Sometimes, you have to download a special driver and install it on your
ColdFusion directory so that your datasources may work ok.

Just a thought,
Ravi.

Server Error

2007-06-23 Thread Peter Tanswell
Hi there

I have recently installed ColdFusion 7.02 on Windows Vista. It all appeared to
be working fine, until I had to go an set up datasource for a microsoft access
database. Then I tried setting up a mapping. When I tried both of these I get
the following error.

IO error on server communication. Basically it doesnt seem to be able to
browse to folders on the server.

I have googled this and found information on the Adobe website saying I had to
make a change to the web.xml file in the web-inf folder.

I checked this file and it looked fine.

I'm stumped on this one.

Just wondering if anyone else might have experienced this problem and if so how
they resolved it.

I can set up datasource if its a MySQL database.

Thanks in advance for feedback.

Pete

My understanding is that the iPhone will support some version of Flash
Player - it'll need that just for YouTube content. Beyond that, there's
nothing really special for Adobe to do. You can develop AJAX applications
easily enough against Safari - just test them with your browser window sized
to 320x240.

There are already iPhone-specific sites out there. I saw one that was a
to-do list of some sort. Personally, I think that running web apps over GPRS
is a poor second place to running locally-installed applications, but
developing against Safari is probably a lot easier than developing local
apps even when an SDK is available.

Re: ColdFusion server playing up

2007-06-23 Thread Robertson-Ravo, Neil (RX)
Yep, you have to go deep on these. But need more info.

Which ColdFusion version?, Which JVM? Which OS (and specs)? What are the
runtime logs saying? What mode is ColdFusion installed as? What WebServer?
What is the load on the application?

What is your heap size set too? You may need to increase it.
I would defo invet in some metrics software like Seefusion or Fusion Reactor

I was curious if anyone had heard any news about how Adobe might be
looking to have their tools integrate with the iPhone in some way.

There's been a lot of buzz about iPhone and Ajax lately and was
wondering what Adobe might have up their sleeves.

http://ajaxian.com/archives/iphone-and-ajax-onpinch-mac-simulator-and-cringe

With CF8's new Ajax abilities, I'm interested in how I might be able to
leverage it for the iPhone.

Also, this may be a good way to help Adobe get feedback about how they
can help us better target that platform. While Apple says that "if it
runs in Safari, it will run on the iPhone", whe working with mobile
solutions, there's so much to think about that we normally take for
granted on the web.

Anyone?

Hi:
I live in Iran and here ASP.Net and PHP are most popular languages.
I used to teach ASP and DW mostly and now I think CF can be the first choice in
Iran and I try hard to introduce it to Iranian developers.
I really count on this introduction.

Ah, but therein lies the trick. I still see those "3D" bits that get
tucked in there coming back. So I'm assuming
that there are SOME email clients or web-based email tools out there
that DON'T handle it very well.

For example - here's a bit from an automated email I get when this comes
up. I spit out various CGI vars. Here's the query_string var:

I=3D3679&S=3Dlokphnprsux&l=3DIxc8i9dC

Those "3D" bits after the equals signs should NOT be there. And
naturally, the resulting DB calls fail because no such values exist.

But then there shouldn't be a problem. It may be using quoted printable,
but it indicates so in the header so the recipient has all the

Hi:
I wanted to introduce CF to some webdeveloping classes (I'm struggling to make
them start a CF course class) and I need a Video Tutorial CD/DVD which I can
suggest as a start point for them.
Lynda.com has one but it is for MX and the Dreamweaver 8 Dynamic Development is
mostly about DW.
VTC.com has one but I couldn't find it in my area.
Is there any other one? From Novice to Advanced or even Basic.
It will be great if the movie uses DW or CFeclipse as the editor.
I know you may suggest ColdFusion MX 7 Web Application Construction Kit (Ben
Forta) or other cool books but I prefer a Video Tutorial because it will be
much easier for managers/developers to start.
