Ultimately, no, there shouldn't be any issues.

Thanks for the response Carl. I will look for the official adobe document

yes Microsoft Hyper-v does the same.
2 physical CPU's (sockets) could hold 12 cores in total, with hyper
threading you could have 24 cpu images.

The new licensing is a giant kick in ass TBH, CF9 allowed 10 instances to
be deployed in the cloud.

Re: ColdFusion license

2013-02-01 Thread Carl Von Stetten

Pradeep,

On the question of the license key: yes, you use the same license key on
test and staging.

I'm not aware of a way to limit the number of cores that ColdFusion has
access to. If you virtualize your servers with VMWare vSphere, you can
limit the number of cores each virtual machine can use, thereby limiting
how many cores ColdFusion can use. I've not used the Windows HyperV, so
I can't comment on whether it can be similarly configured. If you have
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition, you are entitled to run up to
four virtual machines under one license (provided you have at most two
physical processors in the server).

Adobe modified the EULA again for CF9 to allow Standard and Enterprise
to installed as "Production Software" on one server, as "Disaster
Recovery Software" (or as you called it a 'dark' server) on a different
single server, and as "Development Software" for "internal development,

there was a special promotion to get a cfbuilder and flash builder with each

All editions of CF can be used for development completely FREE, they simply

I believe the hot spare option is true, although if you are using Virtual

like on the same physical server, and if in the Cloud (unknown which server

Yes, the EULA for CF9 has language that allows one to use the same
license for a production server on a staging/cold backup/development
environments. I don't know about the web site, but you should be able
to find it in the EULA, and an internet search should turn up a couple
of blogs that highlight the changes in the EULA.

The free developer license (aka no license) that has long existed has a
two IP restriction.

RE: ColdFusion License and Builder

2011-03-10 Thread Jason Fisher

Dev and Hot Spare are 2 different things. You can always install full
Enterprise on any server in Dev mode for free, and that has a 2 IP limit.
Hot spare is a licensing change (came in 8.0.1, iirc) that allows a 'dark'
server to have a full installation re-using your production license, but
those 2 servers (production and hot spare) cannot both be running at the
same time. This allows for true failover setups without doubling license
costs, on Adobe's assumption that you are not really going to run both.

RE: ColdFusion License and Builder

2011-03-10 Thread DURETTE, STEVEN J (ATTASIAIT)

I found the EULA for ColdFusion. Here are the appropriate sections:

3.1.3 If Licensee purchases one or more Production Software licenses,
then Adobe also grants Licensee the
right to install and use the Software as Development Software for
internal development, testing and staging.

3.2 Development Software License. This Section 3.2 applies only if
Licensee has obtained either a valid
developer edition of the Software or one or more separate Production
Software licenses (see Section 3.1.3).
Adobe grants Licensee a license to install and use the Software as
Development Software on one Server.
Licensee must separately obtain the right to install or use the Software
as Developer Software on more than
one Server. In addition to the other terms contained herein, Licensee's
license to the Development Software
is limited to use in Licensee's technical environment strictly for
testing and development purposes and not
for production purposes. Licensee may (a) install the Development
Software on Servers connected to
Licensee's Internal Network provided that the total number of Computers
used to operate the Development
Software does not exceed the licensed number of Servers, and (b) permit
Authorized Users to use the
Development Software in accordance with this Agreement. Licensee shall
not (i) use the Development
Software for any application deployment in a live or stand-by production
environment, in each case,
including, without limitation, in any environment accessed by
application end-users including but not
limited to servers, workstations, kiosks, and mobile computers, (ii)
access the Development Software from
more than a single IP address at any given time, or (c) use the
Development Software to deploy
applications that are accessed by end users. NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING TO
THE CONTRARY,
THE DEVELOPMENT SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED TO LICENSEE BY ADOBE ON AN AS IS
BASIS,
AND ADOBE DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTY OR LIABILITY OBLIGATIONS TO LICENSEE OF
ANY KIND.

Now if I could only find the stuff about free builder licenses with the
purchase of CF.

about the dev/hot spare, and it didn't have the ip restrictions.

I thought that Adam had put both of the items out on this list, but I
was looking for the actual in writing info.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

there was a special promotion to get a cfbuilder and flash builder with
each
purchase, I do not know if that promotion is still active, if you cannot
find it on the Adobe site then I guess not.

All editions of CF can be used for development completely FREE, they
simply
have an IP address connection limit.

I believe the hot spare option is true, although if you are using
Virtual
Machines on the same server, then you can install it as many times as
you
like on the same physical server, and if in the Cloud (unknown which
server
you are using for each virtual machine), you get 10 installations.

ColdFusion License and Builder

2011-03-10 Thread DURETTE, STEVEN J (ATTASIAIT)

Hi All,

I have a short turn around on this so hopefully someone can help. I have
searched the Adobe website, but I didn't find the appropriate documents.

As I understand it if you purchase ColdFusion Enterprise edition, you
get to use it on 2 machines (Production, Development/Hot Spare), and
that you get one or more builder licenses with the purchase. We are
trying to do our budget for software right now and I need to have the
documents that state this. Does anyone have the URLs for the documents
that state this? Or, can you tell me if I misunderstood the above?

Thanks,

Steve Durette

Look at cfeclipse for building your sites in - it's free and is an excellent

I can do my coding in notepad. I would like to host them on some cheap

It is not true. This isn't a matter of opinion, you can read the license for
yourself:

http://www.adobe.com/products/eula/server/

"2. License Grants

The licenses granted in this Section 2 are subject to the terms and
conditions set forth in this EULA:

(a) If the Software is (i) a Developer Version, (ii) a Trial Version, or
(iii) any version of a Server-Based Software, this Section 2(a), and not
Section 2(b) nor Section 2(c), shall apply: Subject to the terms and
conditions of this Agreement, Macromedia hereby grants, and you accept, the
right and license to install and use the Software on a single computer. A
license for the Software may not be shared, installed nor used concurrently
on different computers.

(b) If the Software is a (i) Commercial Version, (ii) Education Version or
(iii) Not For Resale Version, in each case, of a CPU-Based Software, this
Section 2(b), and not Section 2(a) nor Section 2(c), shall apply: Subject to
the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Macromedia hereby grants, and
you accept, the right and license to install and use the Software on one or
more computers, provided, however, that (i) the total number of CPUs from
all of the computers in which the Software is installed does not exceed the
total number of CPU licenses purchased for such installation and use, and
(ii) with respect to the ColdFusion software only, as each license for such
Software is on a 2 CPU basis, the total number of computers on which such
Software is installed and used shall not exceed the total number of Software
licenses purchased."

The last sentence is the applicable portion.

The CF5 eval will default to "single ip" mode after 30 days. It will still
work, but only from one IP address. It's a great way to develop on a
non-production machine.

As far as I know, a CF license is only for one machine. I believe that your
company will need to purchase a copy of the license so that you are legal.
The only other way is to install an eval version and re-install every 30

Re: ColdFusion license agreement

2001-09-04 Thread Bruce Sorge

I responded under the presumption that this individual was doing development
work from home and would need to show his work from his home machine, such
as what I do for my clients. I do not load any code to their (Client)
servers until I know that it works, and that they have had a chance to look
at it while it is on my server, which means that the single version license
does not work for me.

For the 5.0 tags, I just looked at the Macromedia site. There is something
there called the ColdFusion Studio Tag Update that might help you out. I am
not sure, but you should take a look. Go to the Macromedia site, click the
Downloads tab, click More Downloads next to ColdFusion Studio, then click
ColdFusion Studio Tag Infusion Pack/Studio Update under Updates.

Hope this helps,

Reinstalling an Eval version will not do anything, after the time out it
remains timed out. In CF5.0 (not sure about 4.5.2) it reverts to single

RE: ColdFusion license agreement

2001-09-04 Thread Billy Cravens

Actually, last I checked, the CF5 eval can be used as a development
server similar to Jrun, where it only works from one IP address. For
the first 30 days it works as a full version, then afterwards it's a
developer version. Of course, your client couldn't view it remotely,
unless they want to shell out the $$.
