Re: ColdFusion license
Thanks for the response Carl. I will look for the official adobe document which says that. When I was discussing this with my admin, he felt that that the EULA does not explicitly specify that the key can be installed. The license was procured for Coldfusion 10 however I am not sure if my admin is aware of the changes regarding the number of cores clause on the EULA, so thought of finding a solution for it too. Re: ColdFusion license
yes Microsoft Hyper-v does the same. 2 physical CPU's (sockets) could hold 12 cores in total, with hyper threading you could have 24 cpu images. The new licensing is a giant kick in ass TBH, CF9 allowed 10 instances to be deployed in the cloud. Re: ColdFusion license
Pradeep, On the question of the license key: yes, you use the same license key on test and staging. I'm not aware of a way to limit the number of cores that ColdFusion has access to. If you virtualize your servers with VMWare vSphere, you can limit the number of cores each virtual machine can use, thereby limiting how many cores ColdFusion can use. I've not used the Windows HyperV, so I can't comment on whether it can be similarly configured. If you have Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition, you are entitled to run up to four virtual machines under one license (provided you have at most two physical processors in the server). Adobe modified the EULA again for CF9 to allow Standard and Enterprise to installed as "Production Software" on one server, as "Disaster Recovery Software" (or as you called it a 'dark' server) on a different single server, and as "Development Software" for "internal development, testing, and staging" on an unspecified number of additional servers. RE: ColdFusion License and Builder
Dev and Hot Spare are 2 different things. You can always install full Enterprise on any server in Dev mode for free, and that has a 2 IP limit. Hot spare is a licensing change (came in 8.0.1, iirc) that allows a 'dark' server to have a full installation re-using your production license, but those 2 servers (production and hot spare) cannot both be running at the same time. This allows for true failover setups without doubling license costs, on Adobe's assumption that you are not really going to run both. RE: ColdFusion License and Builder
I found the EULA for ColdFusion. Here are the appropriate sections: 3.1.3 If Licensee purchases one or more Production Software licenses, then Adobe also grants Licensee the right to install and use the Software as Development Software for internal development, testing and staging. 3.2 Development Software License. This Section 3.2 applies only if Licensee has obtained either a valid developer edition of the Software or one or more separate Production Software licenses (see Section 3.1.3). Adobe grants Licensee a license to install and use the Software as Development Software on one Server. Licensee must separately obtain the right to install or use the Software as Developer Software on more than one Server. In addition to the other terms contained herein, Licensee's license to the Development Software is limited to use in Licensee's technical environment strictly for testing and development purposes and not for production purposes. Licensee may (a) install the Development Software on Servers connected to Licensee's Internal Network provided that the total number of Computers used to operate the Development Software does not exceed the licensed number of Servers, and (b) permit Authorized Users to use the Development Software in accordance with this Agreement. Licensee shall not (i) use the Development Software for any application deployment in a live or stand-by production environment, in each case, including, without limitation, in any environment accessed by application end-users including but not limited to servers, workstations, kiosks, and mobile computers, (ii) access the Development Software from more than a single IP address at any given time, or (c) use the Development Software to deploy applications that are accessed by end users. NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY, THE DEVELOPMENT SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED TO LICENSEE BY ADOBE ON AN AS IS BASIS, AND ADOBE DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTY OR LIABILITY OBLIGATIONS TO LICENSEE OF ANY KIND. I responded under the presumption that this individual was doing development work from home and would need to show his work from his home machine, such as what I do for my clients. RE: ColdFusion license agreement
The CF5 eval will default to "single ip" mode after 30 days. It will still work, but only from one IP address. It's a great way to develop on a non-production machine. I believe that your company will need to purchase a copy of the license so that you are legal. RE: ColdFusion license agreement
Reinstalling an Eval version will not do anything, after the time out it remains timed out. In CF5.0 (not sure about 4.5.2) it reverts to single IP mode for development only:-) Regards, Andrew Scott -Original Message- From: Bruce Sorge [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, 5 September 2001 2:16 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: ColdFusion license agreement As far as I know, a CF license is only for one machine. RE: ColdFusion license agreement
Actually, last I checked, the CF5 eval can be used as a development server similar to Jrun, where it only works from one IP address. For the first 30 days it works as a full version, then afterwards it's a developer version. Of course, your client couldn't view it remotely, unless they want to shell out the $$. --- Billy Cravens Web Development, EDS [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: P Broussard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2001 11:07 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: ColdFusion license agreement So I got a job that allows me to work from home. > If not, how do I get around the problem with out having to buy a copy? If you have CF Studio, you can use the single-user version that comes with that. I think that has all the tags. Unless you want Server 5, that is, in which case you have to wait for Studio 5. ** Information in this email is confidential and may be privileged. It is intended for the addressee only. RE: ColdFusion license agreement
No, you can't install the one you are using in production, but if you are using a licensed version of CF Studio, that comes with a single IP version of CF for use by developers. If you are not using CF Studio, perhaps you should be! :P Marwan Saidi Webmaster CED - Concord IS [EMAIL PROTECTED] 407.741.8645 -Original Message- From: P Broussard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, September 04, 2001 12:07 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: ColdFusion license agreement So I got a job that allows me to work from home. CF Studio includes a single-user version of CF Server Enterprise that should solve your problem.
