Re: test

2010-04-07 Thread Michael Dinowitz

Sometimes the archives get a little behind in displaying posts. On the
other hand, the rss feeds for each list will always show the latest
messages so you can always check that to see if your post has gone
through.

The problem is that when using gmail, their software prevents you from
getting a copy of an email that you send to a list (a 'feature' I
dislike).

If there is a call for it, I can alter the list code to 'force' gmail
to always display an email that you send to the list, resulting in one
copy that you sent (in your sent mail) and another in your inbox.

Re: test

2010-04-07 Thread Michael Dinowitz

Actually it is a header, though maybe not one you would expect.

Each email message sent has a unique message-id. When gmail sees 2
emails with the same message-id, it keeps the first (the one you sent)
and discards the second (the one from the list). I wrote the list
software to keep the message-id of a message sent to the list and
duplicate it on the message going out. Two messages of the same
message-id, even though they have different bodies and other headers,
are the same message according to gmail.

All I have to do is assign a new message-id to outgoing emails and
they'll show up in gmail no matter what.

There are a number of things which can prevent a post from showing up.
Non-plain text format, spam subjects, subjects that include a spam warning
([spam-score low], etc.) and plain mail server failures. I've even seen mail
sent through Google not getting delivered and it was sent to Adobe.
On the flip side, mail from the server can fail to arrive due to it being
rejected by the receiving mail server, being labeled as spam, a timeout
connecting to the receiving mail server and a few other more obscure
reasons. I go through the bounced mail regularly to remove the addresses of
people who's accounts are 'dead' or have multiple reoccurring problems.
If anyone has a specific problem sending or receiving mail, please feel free
to email me directly or even call if you have to.

Not the most elegant, but you can rock a try/catch:

cftry
cfset lstFields = myobjext.getExtendedFields() /
cfcatch
cfset lstFields =  /
/cfcatch
/cftry

Other than that, you can probably try some sort of reflection (using all
the Java reflection stuff) but that is probably way overkill/??

I am working with a JAVA web service, and I get back an array of objects
with methods to access the data.
One of these methods is getExtendedFields() which will only exist if
there are any extended fields. So I need to be able to test if this
method actually exists before I bother trying to access its methods.
I thought I could do a structkeyexists, but that doesn't work cfif
StructkeyExists(myobjext,'getExtendedFields')

anything else I can do ?

The browser does not pass the # sign or anything after it to the http
server... it doesn't show up in any CGI variables for that reason.

In CFMBB, in order to link directly to a message *AND* use an anchor, I
had to do something like this

thread.cfm?messageid=525#525

Only the browser knows about the # and what's after it.

RE: Test PDF

2006-09-18 Thread Ian Skinner
Thanks Jeff

I definitely have something weird going on. Whenever I view a PDF generated
report, even yours, all my text is mirror image. If I save the PDF and send it
to somebody else, it is normal. I must have some strange configuration, but
for the life of me, I can not find it. If I view regular PDF files not
generated by CF report, they display normally. So far this is what I have.

Only I am experiencing this issue.

Only with CFreport generated PDF content.

Regular PDF files open normally.

If I send a saved report PDF to another, they open normally.

This is mind boggling and I have no idea where to look further.

listlast(getMetadata(obj).name,.)

probably more efficient to have a getType() function in each cfc though.
then perhaps a user.equals(anotherobj) function which utilises it e.g.

return if(arguments.obj.getType() eq this.getType())

As far as I know, CF doesn't have a built in instanceOf operator or
method. The way to get around this might be to have a public property for
objects Ex.:

SESSION.CurrentUser.InstanceOf()

Which would return, as a string, something like manager or worker.

So I assume that you use session.currentUser to hold EITHER a manager
object OR a worker object.

This may be a stupid question since I don't have a lot of oop
experience, but is it bad form to use the same variable name to store
two different types of objects? That seems so create the problem you
have now, because you don't know what class you used to instantiate that

Actually, being able to use one variable to store different objects can be
very useful, and is commonly done in OO languages. However, these tend not
to be just any two different objects, but objects that either inherit from
the same base class or implement the same interface. For example, you might
have a bunch of objects that are sortable. You might write a single
interface, ISortable, then write functionality in each class to implement
how ISortable works for that specific object type. Then, if you have an
array of objects, all of which implement ISortable, you could sort them
without worrying about what kind of objects they are exactly.

This is a big deal in C# now, with the addition of generics - type-safe
collections of various kinds.

[For some reason my original post didn't go through (I think because I

Exactly Right Dave.

Joelle,

In your base class, add something like this:

cfproperty name=userType type=string
cfparam name=this.userType default=worker type=string

You can set the this.userType upon instantiation and it will know what type
it is for the life of the object.

Then you can also put in something like this in your base class to search
your object hierachy
for it's userType or whatever else you'd like to find down the line.

cffunction name=getInstance returntype=struct access=public
cfargument name=search type=string required=no default=
cfscript
var stObj = structNew();
if(len(trim(arguments.search)) GT 0) {
for(it in this) {
if(arguments.search IS it) {
stObj[it] = this[it];
return stObj ;
}
}
} else {
for(it in this){
stObj[it] = this[it];
}
}
return stObj;
/cfscript
/cffunction

RE: test

2006-01-05 Thread Russ
I'm not sure if it was a problem with our mail server or something over at
HoF, but about 5 posts made it to the list last night that I posted several
weeks ago... (all at different times).

I know HoF had some problems back when I wrote the original emails related
to a virus and being blocked on our mail server due to being on some
blacklists, but not sure why the posts all of a sudden came through last
night...

Re: Test Post

2005-10-19 Thread Michael Dinowitz
When you post from gmail, you do not get the message you send back. The reason
for this is that when you post from gmail, they assign a message id to the mail
header (standard). The House of Fusion list system was designed to respect that
message id and sends out all of the posts with a copy of it. GMail sees the
message from the list as a duplicate of the message you just sent (which is
sitting in your sent messages 'folder') and ignores the new message.
Bottom line is that you can post from GMail but don't expect to get a copy of
your post from the system.
Sorry

Just heard about that one as well. I'll be looking into a solution where spam

have you tried changing the default outgoing message encoding from default
to UTF-8 to see if that helps?

Indeed.

 The House of Fusion list system was designed to respect that message
id and sends out all of the posts with a copy of it.

I'm not sure, THIS is not standard however, I think the sender (or
resender) should define its own ID, what's important is that the
In-reply-to: header is saved, so that the receiver can build the thread.

Re: Test Post

2005-10-19 Thread Barney Boisvert
Actually, you (and Bob) got it backwards. You need to set it to
Default not UTF-8 for some reason. With UTF-8 set, GMail uses
Base-64 encoding, which apparently is not relayed by the HoF servers,
period. I've never gotten posts from HoF back, but with UTF-8 set, my
posts didn't go to anyone else.

However, as long as you're not using Base-64 (by disabling UTF-8 for
outgoing messages in GMail), then there are no problems with the HoF
lists, or any others.

cheers,
barneyb

Re: Test Post

2005-10-19 Thread Michael Dinowitz
The in-reply-to is preserved in all of its incarnations (not all mail systems
use the same header) but I thought that the message id was a good idea as it
shows the message id in relation to the sender. Otherwise, you'll get a message
from [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a message id that says its from houseoffusion.com,
which will show up as spam in many systems. If it's coming from someone at
gmail.com, then the message id should also say gmail.com.
But again, I'll look into this to see if a change will be better.

 The House of Fusion list system was designed to respect that message
id and sends out all of the posts with a copy of it.

I'm not sure, THIS is not standard however, I think the sender (or
resender) should define its own ID, what's important is that the
