RE: Uninstall

I thought it was me...

My problem is that I can't open Add/Remove in control panel. I have to go
into the Registry, find the uninstall key and then run in msiexec from start
 run.

Is this just coincidence?

 Anyone have any trouble uninstalling Macromedia products once
 MX preview release installed?

 I have the following installed: CF Studio 5, Flash 5,
 Dreamweaver PR, Flash MX PR.

 Now I want to uninstall Studio and Flash and neither will
 uninstall.  (W2K
 Server)

 The products do not come with their own uninstall program.

File Download

2002-05-30 Thread Graham Lewis

This is an area I have not looked at in detail before so I am looking
for some pointers on the best way to proceed. - I am a CF dabbler not a
code jockey like you guys :-)

I make a selection on a page which stores the path to a file in a
variable (#PathToFile#). I now want to download that file by clicking a
button on the same page.I suppose I should relaod the page, passing
it the variable, and hyperlink the button with a url derived from the
file path (I gues there is a CF function for doing that?)

Is this possible or can anybody see a more sensible solution.

What do you want to do? Re-purpose images, store them, serve them out on
the web? We use a combination of Canto Cumulus, and Efflare products.

We use Canto Cumulus to store and database images to easily find them.
www.canto.com http://www.canto.com/

We use Efflare's imageCR and ImageFlare to re-size, convert, crop images etc
and serve them up on the web. www.efflare.com http://www.efflare.com/

ImageFlare is brand new and was semi-private released on the 27th. I have
had a few days to play with it and i love it so far. The full release
should happen at the end of the week when the documentation is done.
http://www.efflare.com/products/ http://www.efflare.com/products/

Here is a link to the demo.
http://efflare.com/download/cfx_imageflare_demo_setup.exe
http://efflare.com/download/cfx_imageflare_demo_setup.exe

They even have a limited time discount on ImageFlare.
http://secure.emetrix.com/order/product.asp?PID=668675
http://secure.emetrix.com/order/product.asp?PID=668675DID=1307730ID=Q=D
C=ligature DID=1307730ID=Q=DC=ligature

I ran some tests today and ImageFlare was able to keep up with AlterCast
without breaking a sweat!

I input a 23meg RGB TIF and output a 300pixel wide RGB JPG. Altercast did
it in 13seconds.

Here are ImageFlare's results depending on the resampling method i chose:
0 None - 3 seconds
1 Lanczos3 -  32 seconds
2 Mitchell - 16 seconds (closest to Altercast's image quality vs. speed)
3 Linear - 3 seconds

Keep an eye on ImageFlare over the next few weeks. They are always updating
their products with new features and i hear they will be adding Spline
resampling that should match the Altercast speed if not surpass it.

Last Note:
Im prepping a proposal for a multi-lingual web site and ImageFlare is going
to make my life SOO much easier! Query the database for each language
and throw the results into ImageFlare, and gFont to produce excellent custom
graphics.

OT: HomeSite+ - GUI Issues, anyone else having them?

2002-05-30 Thread todd

I realize this is a little offtopic, but not really ... it's seriously
hindering the ability for me to organize and prepare to crank out CF code.
Am I the only one that's having some serious problems with HomeSite+?

For example, hit F8 -- look at the bottom of the resources option 'lock
tabs' is contantly greyed out for me, I can't check, uncheck... I can't do
anything. I hate to hack into the registry to hide the panels I don't
want to see. I've installed/uninstalled, I've done everything and nothing
is working for me to enable this option.

Hitting Shift F8 to customize my tool bars, I can't check/uncheck any of
those tool bars -- I don't want to see asp / php crap (heh). Even pulling
the quickbar off the main gui, I can't pull the individual pallets off.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that macromedia is trying to hinder
homesite+ usage so that people get frustrated enough to start using dwmx,
but ... I'm hoping that's not the case. =) While I like dwmx, it has a
version or two before it becomes usable in my eyes... the ability not to
keyboard map to a snipplet is pretty big to me (I realize that's such a
small complaint and yes, I did submit via wishlist).

Thanks,
~Todd

Re: CFTRY/CFCATCH Database errors

2002-05-30 Thread Chris Norloff

Strange, seems okay to me. We use this in CF 4.5 and it works okay catching if the
Oracle database (using native drivers) goes down.

I'd still like more granularity, so if the db is actually down (as opposed to merely
erroring) I can put up a notice.

If I were you, I'd break down what you have and see what's causing the problem. I'd
remove the javascript and just go to an ordinary CF page and see if that's the problem.

good luck,
Chris Norloff

If I've got a query and for some odd reason the database server goes down,
of course my query will fail.
How can I catch the error due to the server being down and display a
static/temp page instead?
My code is below and it appears to be correct but it will not catch the
error and redirect.

Any ideas...

before you do that, I would hope that you have put a copy of your website(s)
on a test server with CFMX and ran some test. Remember that there are some
depreciated tags, cfhttp screwup (mentioned earlier on the list), and other
concerns that you might want take a look at. I would't just jump and upgrade

The point I was making was not in defense of Access. I know Owen and what
he's doing. My point was that I don't think his files are nearly as big as
Michaels archives, so I don't think file size is the problem. The drivers
may be. The install may be hosed as well. I agree - I'd get out of Access
ASAP too, but until he can, there are other things he can try.

 Well, why do you think he's moving the list archive out of Access?

 Up to a certain amount of traffic/data MS Access is a decent solution.
After
 that it's a 'disaster waiting to happen' to quote Michael himself.

 I'd definetely begin considering other alternatives, ASAP.

 Owen,

 I doubt that the size of your files is the problem. Michael D. runs the
 CF-talk list with an Access database (or did until just recently). Have
you
 got the latest MS Jet drivers? Access 2000 is much more stout than 97.
 Perhaps the latest ODBC drivers would be a quick short term fix.

 So, the consensus is Access is the problem! I wonder if the memory
problems
 have gotten worse in the past couple of months because of the growing size
 of the database?

  I think in the cfusion\bin directory there is a batch file provided that
  sets up your scheduler to restart cf services at 2am (or so).

 So running Cycle.bat sets up the scheduler? Or do I need to schedule
 Cycle.bat to be run?

 I guess conversion to MySQL is now on the top of the pile after vacation.

RE: MX training courses now available

2002-05-30 Thread Erika L Walker-Arnold

I answered off-list, but just to throw my 2 cents worth in here as well,

It is an awesome class. Adam and Dave are fantastic, they treat you like
gold, and you get so much out of the class your brain is buzzing for
months. Mine is still buzzing and it's almost a year later. I keep some
of my notes from class by my side to this day. They give you so many
great techniques and they push your abilities to the limit.

It is definitely not for the 9-5'ers, as you do put in a full 10-12 hour
day, but they make sure you have plenty of drink and snacks, and it
NEVER gets boring. Even for the really advanced people I had in my
class.

They go way above and beyond their duties, and by the end of the week,
not only will you feel like part of the family, but you'll be armed with
so much sample code and techniques, you won't know where to run first.

A must do if you are looking for a great training class.

cfcontent reset=yes is good ( get rid of all previous content )

also xmlFormat() should be used on all fields outputted to an xml file

ie also caches the mime_type for a doc sometimes, try adding a url var
to reset this

CF and MAS90 integration

2002-05-30 Thread Terry Troxel

Anybody out there with any MAS90 experience linking to a CF app?

I can get to the MAS90 ODBC datasource and either import/link to any of the
tables from within Access, but it prompts me for company/username/password
which after I enter that info I get the table list. I would like to link to
the sales order master table and grab any new sales orders to be added to a
scheduling/job tracking app I have written for our intranet/internet sites.

We have purchased the Visual Integrator as well as an upgrade to the MAS90
software, but that isn't slated to be installed/upgraded till end of next
month and I can't wait that long.

Any info would be appreciated as I would like to automate this process
rather then manually importing the data daily.

Does anyone know of a hosting provider with CF and SQL Server that will
allow sales of an Adult nature? Everything I've found so far is
geared to huge porn sites with massive content and traffic. This
client's needs are much more simple.

It's actually magazine sales, but it's definately adult in nature.

Thanks,

Unless it's in the global custom tags directory, no.

The only other way is to call it via CFMODULE tag.

OT: JSP newbie - need referer value in servlet

2002-05-30 Thread Jeff Brown

Way off topic: I've received no help from JSP lists, maybe I'm wording my
question incorrectly as I am very new to JSP.

In a servlet, I need to reference the name of the JSP file that called the
servlet. Something along the lines of the cgi.http_referer variable in CF.
Anyone know how to harvest this value? Thanks!

You can only call tags with CF_, you can't tell it the path (it works
it out)

Why not use CFMODULE ?

CFMODULE TEMPLATE=../cf_formurl2attributes

RE: Help with using query with [] notation

2002-05-30 Thread Shawn Grover

Just wanted to say Thanks to Tim, and Dave. I needed to know the order of
things (was it the column id first, or the row number)

I'll dig into my resources more on treating queries as arrays though. I'm
going to need some place to point junior programmers to.

Thanks again.

Shawn Grover

ps. (I didn't see your comments as immature Tim. I woulda done the same -
Dave DOES know a lot, and it would make me feel great if I could ever

Hey Dave,

I have waited for a while for this :) You can do this:

myQuery['col_id']['rowNumber']

On CF 4.5 on Solaris at least. It also works in CFMX on Win 2k.

My test code:

CFQUERY name=getStuff datasource=home
select * from guestbook
/CFQUERY
CFOUTPUT
CFLOOP list=#getStuff.columnlist# index=i
CFLOOP from=1 to=#getStuff.recordCount# index=ii
#getStuff[i][ii]#br
/CFLOOP
/CFLOOP

#getStuff['cFirstName'][3]#
/CFOUTPUT

Subject: RE: Help with using query with [] notation

 I know it's possible to do something like this:
 MyQuery[FieldName]  (I know it's probably wrong, but
 serves the purpose here)

For the record, you can't do that, but you can do this:

MyQuery.FieldName[i]

to reference the column value at row i.

 The CF Documentation does mention this somewhere, but doesn't
 really go into detail. Does anyone know of any good links,
 articles, or resources that describe this in more detail???
 I'd prefer to understand this properly, rather than just find
 the solution for my current situation. Not to mention that
 it would be better if I can direct my coworkers and
 subordinates to these resources as well

The only mention of it of which I'm aware is in the Advanced ColdFusion
Development course offered by MM, but I suspect it's in the docs somewhere.
However, there really isn't that much else to say about it, beyond the three
lines near the top of the message. You can reference a column's value for a
specific row using array notation.

Of course, how you use this is up to you. For example, if you wanted to
refer to the last row of a recordset, you could do it like this:

MyQuery.FieldName[MyQuery.RecordCount]

Or, you could use this feature to loop over the recordset in a CFSCRIPT
block, since there's nothing analogous to the QUERY attribute of CFOUTPUT
within CFSCRIPT:

cfscript
for (i = 1; i lte MyQuery.RecordCount; i = i + 1) {
WriteOutput(MyQuery.FieldName[i]  br);
}
/cfscript

 It's actually magazine sales, but it's definately adult in nature.

Re: Quick question on custom tags

2002-05-30 Thread Stephen Moretti

Brian,

 I am using cf_cf_formurl2attributes but I would like to have one copy
 residing in a commonfiles folder at root.
 This would take something like ../cf_cf_formurl2attributes right? It
 doesn't seem to work.

If you've only got one copy of the tag in your custom tags directory,
regardless of what subdirectory its in cf_formurl2attributes will still
work.

If you have more than one copy then cfmodule
name=commonfiles.formurl2attributes  will do the trick...

RE: Quick question on custom tags

2002-05-30 Thread Rob Baxter

One problem with cfmodule is that you cannot take advantage of the ThisTag
type functionality you get from using the different execution modes. In
other words you can't have tags like

cf_MyCustomTag
blah blah
/cf_MyCustomTag

I think someone else alluded to it, but starting with CF5 you can add
additional custom tag paths via the CF administrator. when you call
cf_MyCustomTag CF will search the depth of the custom tag tree(s) looking
for a file called MyCustomTag.cfm.
If you have 2 tags with the same name it will use the first one it finds
(you will see warnings about this in one of the server logs).

This would take something like ../cf_cf_formurl2attributes right? It

Re: Quick question on custom tags

2002-05-30 Thread Stephen Moretti

 If you have more than one copy then cfmodule
 name=commonfiles.formurl2attributes  will do the trick...

Whoops... meant to say...

where commonfiles is the directory under CustomTags where the file
formurl2attributes.cfm lives.

You can have multiple levels of directories by adding them with dot notation
eg.

CustomTags/parentfolder/childone/grandchildtwo/formurl2attributes.cfm
is
cfmodule name=parentfolder.childone.grandchildtwo.formurl2attributes

Hope that helps

RE: ColdFusion MX / Studio MX now available!

2002-05-30 Thread Vernon Viehe

Here's the deal on subscriptions:

CF server subscription: CFMX is available for immediate download.

If you are registered with a current/valid subscritpion serial number, you should have
received an e-mail with instructions outlining how to d/l CFMX. The e-mail contains a
link and some instructions. When you go to d/l CFMX as part of your subscription,
you'll have an option for requesting a backup CD and documentation at no charge.

Once registered, that will trigger the e-mail to you (not sure how long it would take,

If you find that you're already registered with your CF Server Subscription number,

CFStudio Subscription:

Same process as above, but there are a few kinks we're currently working out. I
anticipate this should all be resolved in the next day or so.

1.) The letter that went out erroneously instructed to use the CF Server serial number
at the supplied link, but you should use CFStudio serial number.

2.) Currently, there's a couple glitches in the online subscription fulfilment
mechanism. Most importantly, the system is presenting the wrong bits for d/l (CFServer
instead of DWMX Homesite+) Also, sometimes the Studio serial number you're asked to
enter isn't correctly recognized.

Once these issues are resolved and you can successfully fulfill your subscription
online, you'll also be given the option to receive a backup CD and documentation at no
charge.

These issues should be resolved shortly, so try again in a day or two. If you're still
having trouble getting DWMX HS+ as part of your CFStudio subscription, contact

OK, here's the info on DWMX HS+:

HomeSite+ comes with all purchases of Dreamweaver MX for Windows.

It's on the CD, and if you buy online via download, it's included in the purchase, but
it's a separate download, there is a link for it.

HomeSite+ is not in the trial download of Dreamweaver MX.

RE: Quick question on custom tags

2002-05-30 Thread Rob Baxter

you're right, I just poorly phrased my answer. What I meant was that you
lose the ability to take action between the start and end execution modes.
Because I don't think when you call cfmodule there is an end execution mode.

To me, the real benefit of having start/end tags in your custom tags is that
you can just embed content between them and then you have access to it in
the end execution mode of your tag. You lose this functionality when using
cfmodule.

Re: Quick question on custom tags

2002-05-30 Thread Paul Giesenhagen

Rob,

You are incorrect, you can use the start stop ... cfmodule template =
../modules/custom_tag.cfmBlah Blah /cfmodule works just fine with the
execution modes.

Paul Giesenhagen
QuillDesign

 One problem with cfmodule is that you cannot take advantage of the ThisTag
 type functionality you get from using the different execution modes. In
 other words you can't have tags like

 cf_MyCustomTag
 blah blah
 /cf_MyCustomTag

 I think someone else alluded to it, but starting with CF5 you can add
 additional custom tag paths via the CF administrator. when you call
 cf_MyCustomTag CF will search the depth of the custom tag tree(s)
looking
 for a file called MyCustomTag.cfm.
 If you have 2 tags with the same name it will use the first one it finds
 (you will see warnings about this in one of the server logs).

RE: Quick question on custom tags

2002-05-30 Thread Dave Watts

 you're right, I just poorly phrased my answer. What I meant
 was that you lose the ability to take action between the start
 and end execution modes. Because I don't think when you call
 cfmodule there is an end execution mode.

That's not correct either, though. You have an end execution mode in any
custom tag that has an end tag:

cf_foo.../cf_foo
cf_foo /
cfmodule template=foo.cfm.../cfmodule
cfmodule template=foo.cfm /

In addition, you can have whatever stuff you like between the start and end
tags in either case.

 To me, the real benefit of having start/end tags in your custom
 tags is that you can just embed content between them and then
 you have access to it in the end execution mode of your tag. You
 lose this functionality when using cfmodule.

Again, just for clarification, this isn't correct. You don't lose that
functionality with CFMODULE.

RE: SQL server trouble

check to make sure your SQL server is listening on tcp port 1433 (unless you
have changed the default port). You can either do a netstat -an from the sql
box or from the client machine try

telnet sql-server-ip 1433

If you get a response your traffic is getting through. If not you've either
got something in the way (firewall) or a problem with your SQL network
libraries. I actually just had this problem yesterday so if that is it I'll
tell you what worked for me. Have you made any configuration changes to SQL
recently?

RE: Quick question on custom tags

The only situation where you might have a problem is when you convert
something like this to CFMODULE:

cf_foo
  cf_bar
/cf_foo

Of course, if you do this:

cfmodule template=foo.cfm
  cfmodule template=bar.cfm
/cfmodule

then CF will think that the closing CFMODULE goes with the second opening
CFMODULE, not the first. You can address that by making sure that each
opening tag has a closing tag. If the nested tag is empty, you can use the
XML syntax for designating an empty element:

cfmodule template=foo.cfm
  cfmodule template=bar.cfm /
/cfmodule

looping over an msxml object in cfscript

2002-05-30 Thread Esher, Marc

Hi all,
  I posted a similar question on the CF forums today and was pointed in the
right direction; now I need some additional help.

I'm trying to loop over a DOM tree created with msxml. This is a snap using
cfloop. However, I want to convert my cfloop code to cfscript code so that I
can write some UDFs for xml parsing (recursion is what I'm going for).

Here's the code in question:

  !--- BEGIN XML PARSING ---
 cfscript
  xmlContent=ReReplace(xmlContent ,!DOCTYPE[^]+,);
  objXML.LOADXML(#xmlContent#);

  Metadata=objXML.selectSingleNode(metadata);

  MetadataNodes=Metadata.ChildNodes;
  mdLength = MetadataNodes.length;
  stMetadata=structNew();
  i=1;

  // begin looping through the xml document

  for (mainNodes in MetadataNodes){
 val=structInsert(stMetadata,#mainNodes.nodename#,#mainNodes.text#);
  }

The error message tells me that MetadataNodes is not a structured object.
the mdLength variable evaluates correctly; so I just need to figure out how
to build a node list that CF can use.

Any advice?

Re: looping over an msxml object in cfscript

2002-05-30 Thread Michael Dinowitz

In CF 5 and earlier there's a limitation in the CFSCRIPT loop where it can only loop
over CF structures, not object structures. This may have been changed in CF MX (I'll
check it out).

At 01:09 PM 5/30/02, you wrote:
Hi all,
  I posted a similar question on the CF forums today and was pointed in the
right direction; now I need some additional help.

I'm trying to loop over a DOM tree created with msxml. This is a snap using
cfloop. However, I want to convert my cfloop code to cfscript code so that I
can write some UDFs for xml parsing (recursion is what I'm going for).

Here's the code in question:

  !--- BEGIN XML PARSING ---
 cfscript
  xmlContent=ReReplace(xmlContent ,!DOCTYPE[^]+,);
  objXML.LOADXML(#xmlContent#);

  Metadata=objXML.selectSingleNode(metadata);

  MetadataNodes=Metadata.ChildNodes;
  mdLength = MetadataNodes.length;
  stMetadata=structNew();
  i=1;

  // begin looping through the xml document

  for (mainNodes in MetadataNodes){
 val=structInsert(stMetadata,#mainNodes.nodename#,#mainNodes.text#);
  }

The error message tells me that MetadataNodes is not a structured object.
the mdLength variable evaluates correctly; so I just need to figure out how
to build a node list that CF can use.

Any advice?

RE: Quick question on custom tags

Actually, you can..

cfmodule template=whatever
blah blah
/cfmodule

Works well.

 To me, the real benefit of having start/end tags in your custom tags is that
 you can just embed content between them and then you have access to it in
 the end execution mode of your tag. You lose this functionality when using
 cfmodule.

 OK, here's the info on DWMX HS+:

 HomeSite+ comes with all purchases of Dreamweaver MX for Windows.

 It's on the CD, and if you buy online via download, it's included in the
purchase, but it's a separate download, there is a link for it.

 HomeSite+ is not in the trial download of Dreamweaver MX.

RE: Quick question on custom tags

2002-05-30 Thread Rob Baxter

Why is cfmodule faster? I assume it might be a bit faster on the first call
to a tag since the cf_ method requires that CF search the tree of installed
tags to find the correct template to run, whereas with cf module you can
specify the exact location. However, I've noticed that CF seems to cache the
location of recently used custom tags, probably to address this very issue.
So presumably, subsequent calls using cf_ or cfmodule would perform the
same. Of course I have no idea on how long this cache persists or what it's
maximum size might be, so in general it's probably safe to say cfmodule is
slightly faster.

Are there any internal implemenation details which make cfmodule faster than
the cf_ syntax, or was this what you were refering to? Just curious...
