Ciao!

Yes, it's Open Source for goodness sake.

But Open Source always gives attribution. Taking cinelerra.org and
cloning the website is pretending to be someone you are not.

The code is open source, not the identity of a project.

OpenSource, for sure, opens possibilities to experiment and expand what's

[CinCV] New domain: cinelerra-cv.org

2014-01-16 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Hi!

Since it was difficult to restore the cinelerra.org domain (now in a
limbo: expired but not yet available), I followed Richard's suggestion
and registered a new domain:

cinelerra-cv.org.

I think this domain is more representative of the community version and
it mimes exactly the package name.

Some consequences are:
- We have a lot of links to fix
- cinelerra.org will become available in a month or two and could be
used for the original project at HV, in case Adam is interested.

I'd be happy to pay and maintain this domain too.

Re: [CinCV] Video/Audi sync problem. Can anyone please help?

But what is most puzzling is that - and I repeat this once again - I
created 4 parts of a series which are perfectly in sync, whether I
play them in Cinelerra or any of the players, but this last one just
won't sync once it hits Cinlelerra. Well, sorry, not quite correct: I
can get it to sync in Cinelerra using the Nudge facility but when I
render the file this nudge setting is absent and I get a mouth moving
with the sound coming after the mouth has moved on to better things
:-) .

This is puzzling indeed.
You treat all the 4 parts identically but the 4th one reacts differently.

I have seen this odd behaviour only with MPEG2 files in Cinelerra and
I've never found a solution.

Re: [CinCV] Multicam editing

Ciao!

I knew the Cin community is great! :-)

I've decided to try and follow two of them:

1. Cinelerra

The best application is always the one I know. :-)

Lorenzo, you had a clever idea.
I try to hack a little with the compositor projector and view
percentage. I think it can work.

I plan to work with all tracks with video fade to 0. My editing will
consist of raising the fade line to 100 for my chosen track for the
chose time.

2. Blender

To learn using it is a good investment. :-)

I plan to use up to 12 camera inputs for the same scene, with 12
different framing of the same moment. I'll work in PAL resolution
(720x576). Flavio, I accept your kind offer of a .blend file. :-)

Does Blender have an easy fade control (like Cinelerra has)?

Thanks Haldun for suggesting Lives. I played a little with it but I
confess Blender is more seducing.

Thanks Glen, I tried Openshot. It's very easy to split the view in 4 but
the editing workflow is a little awkward for me, long time Cinelerra user.
Your tip about the kdenlive audio synch feature is precious!
Unfortunately without the possibility to easily fade in/out and without
a mix track output I don't think I'll be able to use Kdenlive for this
project.

I remember the discussion of a few year ago about the confusion between

The website title was renamed accordingly

That cleared the confusion.

I'm in favour of maintaining this tradition and naming all packages of

A PPA called cinelerra should contain the HV version.

Sometimes I can hear it during playback (I think closing a reopening
Cinelerra fixes it) but sometimes it's a nasty surprise I get in the
rendering.

And this is *very* nasty for long project close to the deadline.

Example:
https://vimeo.com/44184498
At minute 7.00 - 7.05 there are two unwanted voices coming from
who-knows-where just in the points of the audio transitions.

See project timeline:
http://www.g-raffa.eu/Pastebin/Screenshot.png
The cursor is around the first unwanted voice.
Playback before rendering was OK.
Playback now is OK and rendering too.

My gut feeling is that the problem is in wrong storage of temporary
data. Closing a reopening Cinelerra fixes that. Maybe also adding a new
transition or playing back another one fixes that.

The same feeling I have for the bug I encounter when copying selections
from a project to another. I select and copy or cut clip A from a
project and then paste the selection A to another project. Everything
goes well till the time when Cinelerra start pasting the last same
selection D, ignoring new copy E.
Like if the clipboard were full and couldn't accept new data, Cinelerra
keeps pasting the same clip.
Note that cutting clip E works but I get clip D pasted. Clip E gets
lost. And data loss is nasty.
Closing and reopening Cinelerra fixes it (frees the clipboard?). For a
while (15-20 operations maybe).

I've seen no bug reports about that.
Am I the only one experiencing that? Have you ever had such problems?

[CinCV] Wrong playback if clip fps differs from project fps (bug #967)

2012-04-01 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Ciao!

At today's meeting we discussed about bug #967.
http://bugs.cinelerra.org/ticket/967

It's about imagelists not played back correctly when the framerate of
the imagelist is different from the project framerate (an usecase quite
common in stop-motion animation).

I confirm this bug it is not specific to framelists and it can be
reproduced with video too.

Steps to reproduce:

- Open Cinelerra
- Create a new project (resolution: 640x480, framerate: 25fps)
- Download the 5fps test video I prepared:
  http://g-raffa.eu/Pastebin/5fps.mov (460 KB)
- Load it in Cinelerra
- Press arrow key down till you can see the timeline frame by frame.
- Observe the first image and the last one.

Since we have a 5fps clip in a 25fps project every frame of the clip is
expected to last 5 project frames.

In fact the first clip frame is only 3 project frames long.
The two missing frames are added at the end of the clip: the last clip
frame lasts 7 project frames.

I have the same result if I load a 25fps clip and change its framerate
inside Cinelerra.

Steps to reproduce:

- Open Cinelerra
- Create a new project (resolution: 640x480, framerate: 25fps)
- Download the 25fps test video I prepared:
  http://g-raffa.eu/Pastebin/25fps.mov (460 KB)
- Load it in Cinelerra
- Go to the Media tab of the Resources window and right on the clip icon
to open a popup menu.

- Select Info….
- Edit the Framerate field by opening the dropdown menu with preset
values (clicking on the arrow) or by directly entering the number 5.

- Click OK.
- Press arrow key down till you can see the timeline frame by frame.
- Observe the first image and the last one.

Re: [CinCV] render with mjpega - monthy's patches

2012-03-13 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Salut Haldun!

In properties it's indicated as 1920x540 motion

jpeg Is that means cropped ?

By cropped I mean that some pieces of the frames are missing. I sense
this is not your case and you get a squeezed image (aspect ratio is
wrong but the image is complete).

when I open with handbrake or avidemux it shows 1080 and renders 1080.
totem don't recognize 19:6 automatically (there it's squezed if i don't
put the size to 19:6) but vlc does.

I have a similar effect. The file is OK but it is not always recognized
as such. Like if Cinelerra rendered some aspect ratio or resolution
flags wrong. She does that also with anamorphic DV.
Nautilus gets it wrong. The thumbnail is shown squeezed and the
resolution is reported wrongly (for my current 720x576 PAL project is
said to be 720x288).

In fact the file is OK, with the resolution you expect it to have.

MJPEG A is only an intermediate format in my workflow so it is not a big
problem: in VLC I can adjust the aspect ratio manually, in Cinelerra is
read correctly.

If this is a Cinelerra bug maybe we can help fixing that!

Re: [CinCV] Cinelerra.rc changes

Hi Mettavihari!

I compared your two .rc files with Meld diff viewer.
The only serious difference was:

Good:
AUTOGROUPTYPE_VIDEO_FADE_MAX 1.00e+02

Bad:
AUTOGROUPTYPE_VIDEO_FADE_MAX 1.00e+00

In your bad screenshot I saw the video fade line disappearing:
video fade is your wrong setting.
Opening your bad XML confirmed that.

SOLUTION:
Look at the bottom of your program window: there is an audio fade
button. Click on the arrow on the right and select video fade.
Make sure the automation range value is set to to 0.0 to 100.0
In your bad XML it was set to 0.0 to 1.0

Happy fading! :-)

Go to Settings-Format and make sure your selected colour model is YUVA.

If by *good* website you mean a site that has the solution to your own

no, unless you create it.

Editing a quite long video (18'30''), the wound waveform preview only

I had the same problem too but only for certain formats, especially OGG

A temporary solution is to rebuild the indexes by right clicking on the

But I think the issue is related to Cinelerra's limited format support.
The only effective solution I found is to re-encode the audio to WAV or

Thanks Daniel and Hannu.

Yes, missing basename was the problem.
Basename was not needed when capturing with dvgrab only.
It is needed if I add the ffplay pipe.

making my working configure line like that:

I was thus able to compile Cinelerra 2.2 on Ubuntu 11.10.

Calm down. :-)

Capture functions in Cinelerra are pretty unstable. In particular they
seem to depend on hardware. For some people they work perfectly (a
minority it seems) for others they are really unusable.

To have a very buggy feature is not good, so we are brainstorming on
possible solutions. Fix the feature if it is useful (that's an expensive
solution), remove it if it is un-used (cheaper solution).

That's the reason behind Einar's question:

How much people use it (were able to find working settings)? For
what purpose they use it?

[CinCV] More on testing

2011-09-21 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Ciao to all of you!
And a special ciao to the testers!

Here are some more tips for testing:

NEW AND OLD BUGS

We are now focussing on the bugs created by the changes:
- Bézier Automation
- compilation on 2.6.38+ kernels, v4l and buz drivers
Please, test and report back to this mailing list about bugs created by
those changes.

If during testing you find other old bugs, treat them separately.
If the bug is not already reported to the bugtracker, please create a
new ticket with as much details as you can.

Bugtracker: http://bugs.cinelerra.org/

BEZIER AUTOMATION

To know which changes are made by the Bezier patch, you can have a look
at the patch documentation:

http://ichthyostega.de/cinelerra/bezier-patch/

COMPILATION ON UBUNTU

No packages will be available for testing because compilation is one of
the processes that needs testing.

Compilation is supposed to be easy and successful also for newbies.
It will take about 20'. If Cinelerra doesn't compile, then the testing
was successful in finding a bug. :-)

For compiling on any Ubuntu follow the instructions at
http://www.g-raffa.eu/Cinelerra/HOWTO/compilation.html

Just some notes on those instructions:

1.
Don't get the current code. Instead get the source code from
http://git.cinelerra.org/gitweb?p=CinelerraCV.git;a=snapshot;h=77f464b5dafd2c441ccc55282a9489250b83306f;sf=tgz

2.
Ignore the note For Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narval about Video for Linux
version 1 (V4L1). This code is supposed to work with no need for patches.

3.
If you have a 64bit system, don't forget to use the configure options
for 64bit systems:

./configure --with-buildinfo=git/recompile

4. Those compilation commands don't enable OpenGL.

If compilation goes wrong, post the last lines (with the error) of the
terminal output to the list.

Happy testing! :-)

[CinCV] External ffmpeg (was: CinCV 2.2 testing fortnight - call for volunteers)

On Tue, Sep 20, 2011 at 1:46 AM, Paul Taggart ptagg...@cinci.rr.com wrote:

All the editing functionality in the world is useless if you can't

loss of audio or video quality.

I am not against adding support for newer ffmpeg versinons.

I like the idea to drop internal ffmpeg and use only external. But
this means that cinelerra has to support several versions of ffmpeg -
both gpl and non-gpl.

Clearly that can't be done in 11 days.
I'd say all reasoning about external ffmpeg is outside the topic of 2.2
release.

I change the subject of this thread so we can better archive interesting
discussions.

[CinCV] OpenGL (was 2.2 testing so far)

2011-09-21 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Ciao!

Issue is no X11-OpenGL video driver option in preferences set-up drop
down box.

If you followed instructions for Grandma, then you didn't use the
--enable-opengl configure option so - from what I understand of the
manual - OpenGL is not enabled and you don't get the OpenGL option in
the video driver dropdown menu.

This is not confirmed by my experience:
I never use the --enable-opengl configure option either but I get the
X11-OpenGL video driver option in the drop down menu (configure ended
with OpenGL enabled).

Do any of you know what is the expected behaviour with OpenGL?

[CinCV] The new CinelerraCV repo - guidelines

2011-09-19 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Hi!

Thank you Edouard and all users that are testing CinelerraCV.

You might have noticed that the source for testing is available from a
new repository.

Yes, eventually the official unofficial-cinelerra repo has arrived!! :-)

The CinelerraCV repository will store the stable code of our beloved
application.

Version 2.2 will inaugurate the repo.
Get ready with a bottle of sparkling wine for the toast.

The CinelerraCV repo is not a personal repo; it is maintained by the
community. This is a change that has consequences on the repo
maintenance and on the community approach to contribution.

This topic was much discussed during the last dev meetings.

We ended up with some Guidelines, to better organize the community
contribution to development.

I've just uploaded the document to the website.
It's meant to be a guide. It is not carved on rock.
Please, if you wish to contribute code read it carefully.

[CinCV] CinCV 2.2 testing fortnight - call for volunteers

2011-09-18 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Hi!

Last dev meetings focussed on the imminent new release of CinelerraCV:
version 2.2, planned for October 2.

The new version will be compilable also on newer kernels and will
include the famous Bezier patch by Herman Vosseler (ichthyo).
Einar is finishing working on improved default settings and standard
presets.

For details see the milestone tickets in Trac:
http://bugs.cinelerra.org/query?group=statusmilestone=Release+of+2.2

Please, help CinelerraCV by testing her!

2 weeks left to the release.
We ask all friends of CinelerraCV (devs and users) to test the changes
and report bugs related to those changes.

Please, report back to this mailing list.

To test compilation on new kernels and the Bezier patch:

http://git.cinelerra.org/gitweb?p=CinelerraCV.git;a=snapshot;h=77f464b5dafd2c441ccc55282a9489250b83306f;sf=tgz

Download the source from the above link and compile as usual.
(Grandmas using Ubuntu might find useful compilation instructions at:
http://www.g-raffa.eu/Cinelerra/HOWTO/compilation.html )

For a detailed description of the changes see the commit messages of the
last commits of the /construction_site brach:

http://git.cinelerra.org/gitweb?p=CinelerraCV.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/construction_site

To test improved default settings and standard presets:

Please wait. The source will be available shortly.

Thank you!

Ciao
Raffaella

PS:
Remember: only 2 weeks left! It might be your last opportunity! :-)

[CinCV] [OPENVIDEO] An announcement from Lightworks

2011-09-08 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Ciao!

Today the Lightworks team made an announcement in Amsterdam. It is also
in the website:

http://www.lightworksbeta.com/index.php?option=com_contentview=articleid=122Itemid=263

All the announcement it is worth to be read because it tells about the
company philosophy.

The most interesting part surely is the one about the Linux port (the
beta release will be out on 19 Dec 2011) and the source release (not
ready yet, due to the many legal issues and complications in a product
that has over 20 years’ history).

There is still no mention of any specific license for the code.

Overall I like the long term effort of offering a free basic
multiplatform application (open source) that can be extended adding
proprietary codecs and features.

Re: [CinCV] Merging two videos...

2011-08-02 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Hi John!

I wonder if a similar effect can be made with Cinelerra I mean
merge two videos and one [main] video would be showing slides and
another video where the speaker is presented, which would be running
on top-right corner of the resulting video.

Yes, Cinelerra can easily make a Picture in Picture (PIP) effect.
Simeon Voelkel made a tutorial about that:

Have fun!

2011-07-07 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Hi Rafael!

Nobody applied any of the proposed patches?

Applied where?
At the moment we have only personal repos.
We miss an official CinCV repo, because we miss the human resources
needed to maintain it.

The present archive for patches is the mailing list.
This is not a very effective system.
During recent dev meetings we proposed a change:

[CinCV] Yet another call for devs

2011-06-05 Thread Raffaella Traniello

DEVELOPERS WANTED!

At the meeting today we discussed and proposed to create an official GIT
repo for CinelerraCV, so to ease the maintenance of the code and the
merge of contributions.

At present the code is maintained by j6t in his repo and in his free time.
If we create an official repo, Einar is happy to help but at least a
third dev is needed.

Any volunteer?

[CinCV] April dev meeting

2011-04-02 Thread Raffaella Traniello

Hi!

Just a reminder for the next developer meeting:
April 3rd, at 16.00 UTC.

Since I'm coming home from another city, I might be late.

We will mainly talk about the tasks we set to do last meeting.
They were:

Problem 1: Versioning confusion.

Proposed solution:
On the cinelerra-CV website to the source of stable releases will be
separated from git.

An apt source repo will be created, tagged and updated every 6 months.
Also a snapshot tarball will be available, in synch with the apt repo.
For convenience tags will follow Ubuntu releases, as they can work as a
regular deadline.

GIT will be the always growing repo, stable but experimental.
CinCV versioning will still be linked only to enough new features a bug
fixes.

hermanr volunteers for setting up the apt-repo.
raffa volunteers for preparing the tarball and updating the site
accordingly.

Problem 2: Need for a test suite

Proposed solution:
Start work on a test suite, beginning by looking at Google Test.
hermanr volunteers.

Problem 3: New users need reasonable defaults.

Come up with a list of reasonable defaults:
- PAL or NTSC standard set with country-TVstandard mapping and detection.
- YUVA-color
- play-every-frame disabled,
- ALSA (stop playback locks up check box checked)
- xv
- -40.0 to 6.0 for audio fade (till the bug is fixed),
- timeruler of the timeline counting by 2 seconds
- Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames as unit of time in the timeline,
- display text in the resource window folder list (to prevent the media
folder not to be shown in small screens)

- duration for still images = 3 sec
- compositor zoom set to auto
- 500 index files to keep.

Volunteer: einarR1

Problem 4: ichthyo patch

That version needs a good testing so to be put in CinCV soon.
Proposed solution :
The repo will be described and made available from the CinCV website,
along with the other unstable experimental repos (einar, monty, simAV, ...)

volunteer: raffa

Problem 5: output formats

There are too many broken output formats.
Waiting for them to be fixed, einarR1 had the idea to add to preferences
a flag 'show advanced codecs', off by default. This leads to the problem
of how to find out what works and what it works mean. It is theme for
research.
