I'm not sure. show diag should tell the difference, quite obviously,

Here's a front side picture:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/port_adapters/install_upgrade/ethernet/pa-2feisl_100baset_install_config/3475over.html

the LEDs seem to be quite different from the PA-2FE-TX.

From the diagrams in the Installation and Configuration docs for each
PA, it seems the PA-2FE-TX has PA-2FE-TX on the faceplate and the
PA-2FEISL-TX has Fast Ethernet/ISL on the faceplate.

It seems that PA-2FE-TX/ISL == PA-2FEISL-TX. There is no difference. I
have to look specifically for a PA-2FE-TX.

The NPE-G2 is better if you want to forward some 1Gbps
 through the box (configuration-dependent).

Bottom line, the NPE-G1/G2 gives you great value with those
 on-board Gig-E ports.

Still not great if you want to handle a line rate DDoS attack with
minimum size packets...

If you are shopping the used market, you may be better off with the
7200 series. The 7500 isnt worth the juice it sucks and even when
it was supported, it was an abysmal experience.

I'd agree with you on the 7200 preference, and the horrible power usage, but
there *were* good times with the 7500. 11.1CC and a bunch of FDDI rings was
one of the most trouble-free network setups I've worked with, as long as no-one
tried to change cards and tickle the joys of Online Insertion and Reboot.

Cheers,
Tim.

Of course. However, GEIP+ are significantly cheaper than PA-GEs, and
I'm running VIP4-80s. I'd love to run an RSP8 but they still cost $$$.

Agree - but if the budget is tight, some pain might not be
 avoidable.

My take is if you want to handle 1Gbps (or better) on a
sustained basis (as opposed to a couple of hundred-Mbps at
peak), you really should be looking beyond the 7200.

Absolutely agreed.

I would stay far far away from the 2 port FE port adapters, no matter
what they say on them.

I would stick with VIP2-50 (or higher) with 128DRAM and only port
adapters that work well in there. Only VIP2-50 (or better) and RSP in
the chassis. Nothing else.

Use a cheap catalyst switch like the 2950 or 3524XL and port-channels.
The router is cabled only to the switch. Everything is cabled only to
the switch. Use vlans for fanout.

This should be relatively stable for the rsp platform and give you the
best throughput and flexibility. Also it is dirt cheap.

The NPE-G1 is reasonably priced if you want to handle a
