Re: [cisco-voip] [External] Re: [EXTERNAL] Jabber client issue

2020-10-22 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi Hunter,

I will investigate in either on active or coming from woke up situation, but
meanwhile what are possibilities in either case?

Your explanation for how push notification is working is absolutely right, and
I can't find any relation for the cell carrier with the subject.

Ahmed - does it happen if the Jabber is being woken up from unregistered, or
does it happen when Jabber is on-screen when the call comes in, or does it
happen in both situations?

Johnny - I'm not sure how or why the carrier would matter - isn't it all IP?

Expressway sends a push via Cisco/APNs to the iPhone to wake it.
Jabber wakes up and registers with callmanager, then begins ringing.
So now if CM stops signaling ringing, that is done over IP now - right? Am I
missing something?

[cisco-voip] Jabber client issue

2020-10-22 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Dear Gents,

We have a setup for Jabber over MRA, expressway version 8.11.4 with
CUCM/IM/Unity Connection version 11.5(1)SU8 with push notification
configured, let's say a user has an iPhone Jabber and a desk IP phone with the
same extension, when he receives a call both rings normally, but if he picks
the call from the IP phone the Jabber on his mobile keep ringing although the
call was already being picked from the IP Phone??

so anyone came across the same issue?

Hi Ahmed,

In CUCM, you create a SIP trunk to each recorder. Those two recorders are
placed in a route group configured as top down. That route group is put into a
route list, and the route pattern used to invoke the recorders is pointed to
that route list. That route pattern is referenced in your Recording Profile.

If I remember correctly, CUCM 12.5 allows you to point to both recorders at the
same time but don't quote me on that.

Thanks,

James

[cisco-voip] Auto Attendant setup

2018-12-31 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Dear Gents,

I have a CUCM 11.5 setup with central and remote sites, each remote site has a
local Unity connection providing Auto Attendant functionality and everything is
working just fine except for one point which is during WAN outage the SRST on
the site voice gateway router is hosting phones and phones can call each others
and place outside PSTN calls successfully, but incoming calls to the site
through PSTN lines is not hunting in the AA on the local CUC although I have a
dial peer for the pilot pointing to the CUC IP address and the IP address of
the VGW is added to the list of servers in the ports configurations on CUC.

So I do appreciate if anyone have a working configuration example of such
scenario which makes the AA on local CUC works during SRST situation (WAN
outage) or at least highlight the needed configurations.

Thanks.

[cisco-voip] AQM upgrade query

2018-05-07 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi Gents,

I have a task of upgrading QM recording server 8.5 to AQM 11.5, and as per my
experience with this product documents it’s always poor and away far from the
Cisco standard quality of its documentation for its native products.

So does anyone did this upgrade before to point out for the most useful
documents for that upgrade and preferably gives me the tips and tricks for this
upgrade based on field experience.

Another idea is to leave the old server as is and go with fresh installation
for AQM 11.5 using different IP address, what do you think of that?

We are using only the recording feature of this AQM, so finally any tips,
useful documents, videos, or field experience is highly appreciated.

Re: [cisco-voip] Jabber IM service Issue

2018-01-03 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Sure Brian,

I have a single interface EXP-E setup in which the EXP-C is pointing to the
public IP of the EXP-E not its private IP, so my issue was simply the absence
of the PTR record(reverse DNS record) for the EXP-E on the internal DNS which
is used by the EXP-C which turns to be mandatory starting from version 8.8.

Once the record is added the issue was solved and furthermore any user can have
his first access to Jabber client from the public internet not only from the
inside network.

I don't see any connection attempts on port 5222 in the logs. Might want to
enable tcpdump on the Diagnostic Logging page and try again.

Also try https://cway.cisco.com/tools/CollaborationSolutionsAnalyzer/ and go to
CollabEdge validator. It will test against your domain with a
username/password. You can also put the logs in there and it may show you what
is going on as well.

In IM under Presence->Domains, do you have multiple domains listed?
Do you have something other than default under Presence Advanced configuration
for setting domain names? Setting the voice services domain is one of the few
reasons you need to login internally first.

If you are using UserID@Default Domain then you shouldn't need to login
internally first. You may just need to remove the domain portion from the

Are you using flexible Jabber ID?

One thing to make sure is that first time MRA login gets rid of the domain

username@domain in the service discovery window.

You may just need to remove the domain portion from the
username on the username/password page when logging in the first time.

Yes all services are configured with forward and revers DNS records, and I have
all the configurations validated and working fine in another client site with
only one difference which is users here are created locally on CUCM while in
the other client environment which is working there is LDAP integration for
users provisioning.

Looks like possible XMPP/TCP 5222 connection issues from the logs. It just
keeps reconnecting over and over again but the port is open on the Expressway

What model firewall are you using? You may need to disable some XMPP

Also it's better to have a non overlapping numbering plan so that you will not
hit the inter digit time out.

For example, don't have a user extension 4123 and a MeetMe number 41 in this
case you have to wait for interdigit timeout.

Best practices to avoid any overlapping in your numbering plan.

Subject: [cisco-voip] CUCM ver 11.5 off hook dial timeout

Dear all,

We have been asked to look into the possibility of changing the amount of time
the system takes to dial an off hook call, after the final digit is dialled on
the phone (we have timed this and it is currently around 8 seconds)

Obviously this is a system wide parameter, but can someone please confirm to me
which exactly?

Thanks in advance.

[cisco-voip] CUCM with Microsoft Azure AD integration

2017-11-10 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi Gents,

I have UC cluster version 11.5 having CUCM, CUC, IMP, CCX, AQM.

We need to integrate with the client AD but they have Azure cloud AD which is
not yet officially supported by Cisco.

As a workaround we installed local LDAP on-premises for the client and we are
trying to make it sync with Azure AD to fetch endusers then we can integrated
our servers normally with the on-premises LADP as usual, but the sync is not
going well till no between both AD.

So my question is there anyone managed to integrate UC with Azure cloud AD? Or
else if anyone did sync on-Premises LDAP with Azure cloud AD so that the local
LDAP can fetch all endusers with their credentials from Azure, please help.

I find less than the license usage tab, checking the chart tab is more useful
when trying to figure out oversubscription.

Also, I’ve run into an issue in the past of something really stupid – while
CUWLs are a single purchase, it is possible to only install half of the
license, and they’re allocated separately. See below for what should show in
your ELM. When I came into ownership of this domain, I actually had 75 of my
CUWLs that were installed as only the CUWL Standard line, and were missing the
messaging portion.

Re: [cisco-voip] Unity connection Greetings v10

2017-05-03 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi Gray,

Simply configure the following:

1. A working hours schedule (from 8:30 AM to 5 PM on selected week days).

2. Assign this schedule to your AA call handler.

3. Once you did this any time period outside the configured schedule will
be treated as closed.

4. Go to Edit> Transfer Rules menu option and choose the Closed transfer
rule, enable it and from transfer action choose transfer call to greeting.

5. Go to Edit> Greetings menu and activate both standard and closed
greeting and upload the required audio messages respectively.
That’s it now during working hours (configured schedule) callers will hear
standard greeting and outside these hours callers will hear closed greeting.

No, Directory Sync will not import active directory passwords into the
communications manager Informix schema.

That is the point of active directory authentication, it's simply issuing a
bind request to the directory server which yields a positive or negative return
value.

Simply the password of the PCD was apparently too complex for the application
to work properly, so when I re-installed the PCD again using a simpler password

[cisco-voip] PCD cluster discovery problem

2017-04-16 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Dear Gents,

I'm trying to use PCD to migrate CUCM cluster from version 8.6 to 11.5, I did
it with the same exact versions of all PCD, old CUCM and new CUCM and it worked
just fine in one location, but when I'm trying to do the same in the current
cluster the first step which is PCD discovery of the old CUCM cluster always
fail with an error "login failed" as shown:

[cid:image001.png@01D2B6BE.C0C7B280]

I tried later and installed the ciscocm.ucmap_platformconfig.cop file manually
on both CUCM servers but result remains the same!!

I check the PCD logs and found the following:

[cisco-voip] AA on CUC question

2017-03-27 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi Gents,

I have a question regarding auto attendant configurations on Unity connection,
I have configured AA call handlers and it is working just fine but I have a
request to configure auto attendant that has different behaviors based on
working hours/non-working hours' time of the day.

Taking into consideration that a single system call handler can only be
assigned to a single schedule, and also no two call handlers can have the same
triggering extension.

So my question is how to implement this behavior using CUC call handlers ?

Thanks James,

One more point if you please, what about Expressway HA setup? How many EXP-C
and EXP-E servers can be in one setup? And could the HA units reside over the
WAN in different site? And if yes what’s the requirements for that?

Hi James,

Yes currently all the 4 clusters' users can talk to each others via
inter-cluster trunks over WAN links.

Kindly if you have any documents explaining such setup please share it with me.

[cisco-voip] CME-SRST question

2016-09-03 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Dear Gents,

I have a setup of CUCM 10.5 in a central site with a router in a branch site,
phones in branch are registered with the central site CUCM and in case of WAN
failure the branch site router should handle the branch phones till the WAN is
up again, I have configured the branch router with CME-SRST configurations
which is working fine with SCCP phones and all tests were successfully during
WAN outage, my issue it with branch SIP phone which are not able to register to
the CME-SRST router during WAN outage despite I have followed many
configurations scenarios for SIP phones including global register
configurations.

So does anyone have a working scenario configurations for CME-SRST (not unified

[cisco-voip] Unity Connection SRSV question

2016-03-07 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi Gents,

I have a CUCM cluster version 10.5 with CUC 10.5, and we are going to implement
CUC SRSV 10.X in one new remote site using SM-SRE-910K module on 3925 voice
gateway router, so if any one already implemented SRSV in this mode I really
appreciate if he can give me an overview for the implementation steps specially
the first step as I reviewed the related documents (Complete Reference Guide
for Cisco Unity Connection Survivable Remote Site Voicemail (SRSV) for Release
10.x ) but I'm still not sure specially about the first steps to make CUC SRSV
mode up and running.

I currently have the following idea about the steps to be taken, so please
correct/add/modify/edit any of them according to your experience:

* First we have to give the SRE module an IP address.

* Then when we access the IP we will find ESXi already installed on the
module and we can start deal with it like any ESXi host.

* We will create a VM for the CUC SRSV on the ESXi host on the SRE
module.

* We will install the same version CUC as the one we have in the HQ.

* Then CUC starts in demo mode, we will run CLI command utils cuc
activate cusrsv to convert the standalone CUC to CUC SRSV server.

* Then how it will interact with the CUC cluster in the HQ?

Thanks.

[cisco-voip] Cisco prime collaboration assurance upgrade fails

2015-11-26 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Dear Gents,

I have prime collaboration assurance v 9.0 with the 3 patches installed, I was
able to upgrade it to 9.5 following the upgrade/migration guide with no issues,
but I'm facing an issue to upgrade it to v 10.0 (in the path to go v 10.6) as
after the upgrade services are not coming up and the server not working and the
GUI is not accessible, this is happening when trying to upgrade from v 9.0 or
9.5 to v 10.0 despite following the upgrade guie literally.

So any one passed through this and have special tips that's not in cisco

Sreekanth: Really enjoyed your LUA scripting video.

Ahmed: Adding to this, you can use the Call-ID header for identifying a
specific SIP call flow in the output of debug ccsip messages. The Call-ID
header field is a unique identifier for the SIP dialog, which means the Call-ID
header field for the incoming call-leg will be different from the outgoing
call-leg, but persistent for the duration of the dialog (not guaranteed to be
the entire call, but more than likely the entire call). There are other unique
headers fields within SIP, all helpful and used in their own way, but the
Call-ID header is very useful for a high-level view of transactions involved in
a dialog. For information on SIP signaling, I suggest starting with online
articles by Andrew Prokop (google his name...). He talks on Avaya platforms but
focuses heavily on RFC concepts.

Hope this helps.

You'll firstly need to find the call using the called or calling number, and
then you can track it using the Global call identifier in the CCAPI logs.
For example, in this line:
8261462: Sep 29 14:31:10.720: //640449/14CF2490BDF1/CCAPI/cc_api_call_connected:
   Call Entry(Connected=TRUE, Responsed=TRUE, Retry Count=0)

14CF2490BDF1 is the GCID. This will remain constant on the call, and you will
see 2 different legs (if it is a simple call, and doesn't include conference).
640449 is the leg ID. There will be one matching the incoming side, and the
other for the outgoing side.
You can use Notepad++ or Jedit to highlight the GCID and the leg numbers to
track the call then.
I'd suggest logging all the debugs to the buffer so you don't lose any
information. This is a usual template you can use.

Router(config)#service timestamps debug datetime msec
Router(config)#logging buffered debugging
Router(config)#service sequence
Router(config)#no logging rate-limit
Router#term no mon

Then output all the logs using show logging command

You could try a sip-profile under voice service voip to strip it out.

voice class sip-profiles 100
 request Invite sip-header Authorization remove

voice service voip
 sip
  sip-profiles 100

I've never tried this for CME messaging though. It's normally a CUBE feature.
It may still work though.

You should be able to remove the username/password under the SIP ephone
configuration for the calling phone if it's on the same subnet as CME which may
also help but doesn't help if you have those 78XX phones registering over the
WAN.

In the non-working Invite, CME is sending an Authorization header that doesn't
exist in the working case:
Authorization: Digest

Hi Ryan:

Please note that the branch is nothing, just a small 887 router configured for
DMVPN with the HQ to provide IP connectivity, so no voice configs on the branch

Subject: [cisco-voip] 7821 phones issue

Hi Gents,

I have a setup of CME 10.5 on 2911 ISR in the HQ, then I have a DMVPN to the
branch site.

I have the following phone types:

- 7945 skinny based phone.

- 8831 SIP conference station.

-7821 SIP phones.

- 7861 SIP phone.

the setup is working fine in the HQ (on the same LAN) but when i took some of
the 7821 phones and placed them in the branch site the following happens:

- They are able to register to the CME in the HQ.

- Branch phones can call all HQ phones and can also call each others' in the
branch normally.

- The issue is that HQ 7821 & 7861 phones cannot call 7821 branch phones (no
ring back is heard then the call disconnects after around 1 minute), despite
the fact that HQ 7945 and 8831 (which is also SIP based) can call Branch 7821
phones normally with no issues ???

I have upgraded the router IOS to the latest safe harbor version 15.4(3)M4 and
upgraded the 7821 firmware to the latest version 10.3.1 with no success.

I have enabled the debug voice ccapi inout and collected the output from 2
calls, 1 is from HQ 8831 SIP phone to a branch 7821 phone which was successful
and the other from HQ 7821 phone to a branch 7821 phone which was unsuccessful
and i compared the two outputs line by line and discovered that in the
successful call the alerting singal (ring back) is received normally, but in
the unsuccessful one it's not received and a disconnect signal is received as

[cisco-voip] UC SSO question

2015-10-08 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi Gents,

I have configured all my UC 10.5 cluster services (including Cisco WebEx
Meeting Server 2.5 MR5) for SSO. CUCM, Jabber desktop client, and WebEx access
working correctly with SSO from the corporate LAN with PCs joined to the
domain, which how it should work without having to re-enter any credentials
when accessing these service.

My question is a laptop for example which already joined the domain is trying
to access the UC services from outside the network (Jabber Desktop client and

[cisco-voip] Cisco UC systems with SSO

2015-07-05 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Dears Gents,

I have a UC cluster serving multi-sites with the following application: CUCM
10.5, CUC 10.5, IMP 10.5, UCCX 10.6, and Webex Meeting server 2.5 MR5(on
premises), Jabber 10.6 (desktop and mobile clients works from both inside and
also from internet) and I'm about to configure the SSO for all services (local
and services with external access like CWMS and Jabber).

I have a colleague who will work on the Microsoft part to make the IdP (ADFS)
ready and I will configure the cisco UC cluster side.

So any suggestions or special directions about this? I mean if anyone has done
this setup even for a single services and he can give me some advices or notes
this will be much appreciated.

Re: [cisco-voip] WebEx question

2015-06-15 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Dears,

I have upgraded from CWMS 2.5 to CWMS 2.5 MR5, the upgrade went smoothly and
was successful.

But after the upgrade I have notices a big delays when the user try to
create/join a meeting which was the same symptoms when the server was not
having a valid SSL certificate (we have a public CA signed certificate).
And on the server I noticed that the previously working certificate was
assigned on the server as internal SSL certificate while for the external SSL
certificate it shows that it doesn't have one.

In the release notes nothing was mentioned in this regard, so any ideas how we
can get it to work normally after this upgrade ?

MR4 was ok for me, but it did have an issue with productivity tools updates.

The earlier versions of 2.5 have quite a lot of sev 1 and 2 bugs, check the
release notes and you'll see the details (well some of them) But if you are not
hitting them, then you can use your judgement as to whether it's a reason to
upgrade.

The MR's do still seem to have a history of introducing bugs as we go along,
again, that's a bit annoying. (again you'll see in release notes) At some
points these are sev 1,2 bugs too.

I didn't hit a cert issue that I can see on on my MR5 in SDC, but I'm not sure
on all the symptoms, so it still might be lurking.

If you are not hitting any issues with your current version, I'd probably be
inclined to wait for MR6.
When you go there, you can turn on the short URL's.

Cheers,

Tim.

And here a snapshot of the invitation received for a meeting initiated from

So coming to your suggestions, will the MR5 fix this issue ? and will make the
outlook invitation looks neat like the web invitation ? also, James did the MR5
caused issues with mobile client access with you ?

Many thanks for your kind support.

Hi James/Tim,

Just to make sure we are on the same page, I have the major release of the CWMS
2.5 without any MR releases installed.

Here is what I meant by my question,

This is a snapshot of the invitation received for a meeting initiated from web
(with short hyperlink):

And here a snapshot of the invitation received for a meeting initiated from
outlook client (with long URL):

So coming to your suggestions, will the MR5 fix this issue ? and will make the
outlook invitation looks neat like the web invitation ? also, James did the MR5
caused issues with mobile client access with you ?

Many thanks for your kind support.

But I have SDC, do you think I will hit the same issue with the mobile app?
Also is the situation currently stable with the MR5? As in some cases the
newest version suffers a lot of opened bugs that's why I was thinking to go
with the MR4 instead of the MR5.

Re: [cisco-voip] Jabber - WebEx integration query

2015-06-01 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi James,
So the role of the UC conferencing service will be just providing the WebEx
site URL, then the user must enter his email and password manually, right?

The client is not also preferring the manual way of each user entering his
WebEx credentials manually, so what if we configured the WebEx with SSO, will
that help in avoiding that process?

Many thanks James.

[cisco-voip] Cisco Expressway for Jabber MRA query

2015-05-22 Thread Ahmed Abd EL-Rahman
Hi Gents,

I'm implementing Expressway C and E version 8.5.2 for MRA and i have the
following client setup :

- Split horizon DNS.

- 2 domains as follows, Internal: domainX.local and external: domainX.com

- All UC servers are joining the internal domain, CUCM.domainX.local,
IMP.doaminX.local, CUC.domainX.local,etc.

- Client has both local certificate authority (CA) to locally sign his servers
certificates and also registered to public CA to sign his public servers
certificates.

- I have EXP-C and EXP-E to enable the Mobile Remote Access for Jabber clients
from outside.

I'm able to make the EXP-C either on internal domainX.local or external
domainX.com and for sure the EXP-E on the DMZ will be on the domainX.com as it
will be a public and will be accessed from internet.

my question is, should i place the EXP-C in the domainX.local (internal) or
domainX.com (external) for the setup to work?

I have the following concerns in this regard:

- If i placed the EXP-C in the external domainX.com, will its communication
with the internal UC servers which are all in the internal domain be okay ? and
will the certificate trust relation with all UC servers and relation with the
EXP-E will be fine?

- If i placed the EXP-C in the internal will the certificate trust relation
with all UC servers and relation with the EXP-E will be fine?

- is it possible to have EXP-C certificates signed by local CA while the EXP-E
certificates will be signed by public CA ? will it be okay?

- is the Unified CM phone security profile names as a part of the data to be
entered when generating the CSR in the EXP-C mandatory ? i mean do i have to
use TLS for phones through this security profile or I can just enable the
non-secure phone profile without TLS, and if i can use the non-secure phone
profile, do i have to enter this field when generating the EXP-C CSR or can I
leave it blank ?

If any on have a working setup kindly brief me about it specially the domains
and certificates parts.

Ahmed,

I don't think this is a good route to go. Really you should have no dependence
on the publisher besides configuration updates so it shouldn't be anything that
affects operation.

I would be concerned that the subscribers would have a more updated version of
the database than the cold-standby publisher.

Subject: [cisco-voip] UC Cluster Upgrade Implementation Query

Hi All,
I’m seeking your professional advice regarding the following request,
I need an implementation plan (or in simple words ordered sequence for the
implementation steps with a focus on the downtime needed), here is what I have
in terms of UC cluster components:

• CUCM V 8.6.2 which will be upgraded to V10.5 and will be virtualized
on UCS Blade servers (2 blades), they have a Pub and a Sub on the HQ which will
have the 2 Blades and 2 other Subs in a remote site, I’m planning to use the
prime collaboration deployment for this upgrade.

• UCCX V9.0.2 on a physical 7825I4 MCS server which to be also upgraded
to V10.X and virtualized on the Blade server.

• A new installation for cisco unified Communications Manager IM and
Presence V10.X on the Blades, which will replace an old Cisco Unified Personal
Communicator V 8.5.

• A new installation of WebEx Meeting Server on the Blades which will
replace an old Cisco Meeting Place Express V2.1.

• A new installation of Cisco Paging Server on the Blades.

• A new installation of Cisco Expressway System.

• An upgrade and virtualization for Unity Connection V8.5 currently on
MCS servers to V 10.X on the Blades.

• An Upgrade for Unity Connection V8.6 currently virtualized on UCS
server in remote site to V10.X on the same UCS servers on the remote site.

• Upgrading Unity Express V 8.0.3 in different remote sites routers to
latest 8.6.X version to be compatible with the new CUCM version 10.5 without
any other modification to the CUE which handle both AA and VM features for
these remote sites.
So kindly I need any suggestions and advices regarding the ordered steps of the
above and what needs a downtime and what’s doesn’t need ? also if there is any
other suggestions regarding compatibility of the above components.

Also what’s the best practice to minimize the downtime and I would be also
highly appreciated if tests checklist can be provided

Many thanks.
