Re: [clementine-player] Re: Clementine "buffering" issue

2020-07-05 Thread Stephen Menasian
I stumbled across this thread while investigating a Clementine
1.4.0rc1-282-gad882cc99 problem.
As of now (6/5/20), the original problem does not appear to be fixed.
Often, while playing several mp3s
(all on disk) the audio stops for seconds or minutes, often restarting for
several seconds and, then, stopping again.
This sequence occurs repeatedly for 15 -30 minutes, followed by a period
(an hour or so) of uninterrupted playing.
The stop-start sequence often begins again. By the time I detect it, there
is no significant disk activity going on
and there is no reason to suspect that the trigger might have been disk
activity since the computer is only idling or
doing "housekeeping". Even if disk activity had been the trigger,
Clementine has a bug in that it fails to detect that
the disk has become idle and the buffer can be filled. I suspect that the
buffer might actually be full but Clementine
fails to properly detect its status. I can restart playback immediately by
pressing the "pause/play" button to pause and restart
playing.

hours/day mp3 music + streaming "radio"). Yes, I even have it on at

Re: [clementine-player] Re: gap of silence between songs of a playlist

2021-05-23 Thread Stephen Menasian
By using audacity, you can easily create mp3 (or other) files which
consist of nothing other than silence. The can be almost any length
(seconds to hours) Just create them and give them names such as
:silence_10sec.mp3, etc. and insert them into your playlists.

Re: [clementine-player] Music paus after 1h

2021-03-05 Thread Stephen Menasian
Yes, absolutely. After an application restart (with the same
playlist), everything returns to normal for about a week. Note that
clementine is the basis of my sound system and it plays something
(either mp3 or streaming) 24/7 continuously.

Pausing play and restarting doesn't help.
Stopping play and restarting doesn't help.
While play is interrupted, the display at the bottom which usually
shows the amount of time in the playlist switches to a "buffering x%"
display. The % umber is often stuck and , sometimes, it even jumps
back to a lower number.

Garthhh,

I tried that already. Nothing appeared on the terminal.
Is there a command line option to get verbose output?

Also, since I am a fairly good developer, if you can point me to a
file/function where I can insert some debugging output, I'll give it a
try.

expect to wait a week before I get a result.

Re: [clementine-player] Music paus after 1h

2021-02-20 Thread Stephen Menasian
I have noticed problems of this sort for quite a while. I keep the
clementine application up 24 hours a day for several days at a time.
Eventually, it gets to a state (particularly while playing mp3 files
but sometimes when playing streaming URL) where playing starts
pausing, at first a few seconds at a time and, eventually, longer and
longer times until it comes to a complete stop. If I look at the
status at the bottom of the screen, it indicates that is is stuck
buffering. The buffer full percentage, at first stops updating. When
the problem gets worse, the percentage even jumps back to a lower
level. Clearly, there is a problem here.
If I close clementine and relaunch it, the problem vanishes (for a week or so).

Re: [clementine-player] using clementine on 2 pc's with the exact same mp3s on each (syncing the ratings?)

2021-08-31 Thread Stephen Menasian
Would this work?

The first rsync would copy any new files from the house to the garage (without
touching any files that are the same and newer in the garage)
The second would update the files in the house to incorporate any changes
made in the garage (i.e. rating)

Re: [clementine-player] Newest 1.4.0-rc2 kills keyboard

2023-10-19 Thread Stephen Menasian
Aradhya,
My post was more of a bug report than a request for help. I have completely
resolved this problem by switching to strawberry. It appears that
clementine development is almost completely stalled and strawberry
development is more active. The keyboard problem is not present in
strawberry.

Re: [clementine-player] Newest 1.4.0-rc2 kills keyboard

2022-07-21 Thread Stephen Menasian
Garthhh,
This problem is back with a vengeance. BTW, downloading from site, as
you advised, and locally compiling never helped. Anyway, I recently
found my PC spontaneously rebooted but in bad shape. Now, when
clementine is running all shifted (uppercase and symbols) keyboard
input is corrupted. Killing clementine restores the keyboard. However,
my sound card now appears to be dead, whether clementine is running or
not and no matter what sound program is running (mplayer, etc.), no
sound output. It seems that clementine also corrupted something
essential for sound to work, perhaps a module or the soundcard,
itself. So, it seems, from the keyboard corruption and the sound card
problems, clementine is reaching into non-user address space and
causing havoc. Also, for the past couple of years, while clementine is
running. the PC randomly reboots and/or the window manager dies.

Re: [clementine-player] Newest 1.4.0-rc2 kills keyboard

2022-11-13 Thread Stephen Menasian
Clementine still kills keyboard - New Information.
Clementine version: clementine-1.4.0-3.rc1.20220107git0be3143.fc36.x86_64
Platform: Fedora fc36: current updates installed (as of 11/13/22)

When clementine is running, keyboard shifted characters do not work. The
uppercase alphabetic characters can be accessed by using the "Shift Lock"
key
but not special characters (i.e. ! @ # $ | < ? etc). The new (and
interesting information
is that the keyboard corruption even occurs if clementine is running on a
remote PC,
accessed via ssh -X. The PC running the user interface (i.e., the one
running "ssh -X")
has the corrupted keyboard.

The problem just popped up after a recent reboot. Note that reboots are
infrequent; both
PCs run 24/7 for months at a time. The problem could be associated with a
software update
(including clementine and X server) any time in the last 3 months.

I've switched to Amarok temporarily until this is resolved.

Re: [clementine-player] crashes on launch

2023-05-22 Thread Stephen Menasian
You might try strawberry. It is a branch off clementine and appears to be
currently maintained. Clementine, for me, has had several problems - some
affecting the stability of the entire PC. The switch to strawberry appears
to have cured this.
