No surprise on the number o' messages. I think it's from scourge of

Anyhow, a bunch of listers reply with single points now, instead of

Yeah Gary,

The old looking pictures are my boat. The new ones are Ken Heaton's. This
subject has come up at least twice since I've been a member of the list.
This makes the third. Everyone is pretty convinced that Ken has the best
nameplate. All of the 37+'ers seem up for a bulk order of nameplates. If
you figure out a solution let us know.

Re: Stus-List Bulkhead mounted drop down table

2016-01-03 Thread Eric Baumes via CnC-List
I have a c 34+ and I removed the table for the same reasons as you.

I have had a "temporary" table for the past couple years that we use when
cruising. I built it on one of these
http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|7504|2290226|2290231=1536893.
The base is through bolted through the floor and the tube and table are
removeable.

The table top is currently plywood but I have plans to make a more
permanant one out of teak or teak veneer. When I get around to this I will
use two pedestal stands as the table is a little wobbly with only one.

I don't have a pic but I will take one next time I am at board.

In terms of the Rating the YRALIS PHRF Regulations state:

Proper Racing Trim

Yachts shall race as rated with at least all the equipment and furnishings
supplied as standard by the manufacturer. A yacht that has altered or has
removed bulkheads, permanently attached furniture, or structural interior
components shall be considered a custom yacht. Drawers, headliners, cabinet
and locker doors, steps, ladders, and engine enclosures shall remain in
place as supplied as standard equipment. If they do not so remain, then the
yacht shall be considered a custom yacht and rated accordingly. *Passageway
doors, cushions, dining tables, and carpets are specifically exempted, and
are alterable or removable provided all safety standards are met.* Lifting
keels (not designed to be adjusted while racing) must be fixed and locked
in the lowered position while racing.

You may want to check your local regs.

Eric,
Interesting. Lake Michigan phrf regs do not contain such an exception and
state that base handicap "assumes standard hull AND interior". The regs
also reference any interior appointments that are modified or customized must
be fully described in application. The regs are under revision so maybe this
will change for lmphrf. If so, my table is GONE!

Re: Stus-List C Nameplate

2016-01-03 Thread Gary Russell via CnC-List
Hi Josh,
I have a friend with a CNC milling machine. If we can create a
realistic part program, we can mill them out of a single sheet of 1/4"
acrylic. The original is made of acrylic with the letters and numbers and
star glued on. This would be all one piece so it should be more durable.
The only problem is to get a good model to create the part program from.
Then we should be able to crank out as many as we want.

First thing . Is that the C Star that you are referring to ? Is it the same
size as the one on the bow? You can transfer it and then re size it . South
Shore Yachts may have the original in stock too

Re: Stus-List C Nameplate

When the topic came up in the past, it seemed like most people were looking
for polished stainless steel similar to what Ken has. I'm a little
apprehensive about how plastic will look as well as how well it will hold
up. I'm not familiar with "part programs" but I can probably come up with
a line diagram kind similar to a blueprint.

Re: Stus-List Automatic bilge pump switch help

2016-01-03 Thread Dave via CnC-List
In my 33ii

Had been thinking of using my rarely-used shower pan drain pump and connecting
it to a diverter valve which would select between the bilge and the shower.
Would plumb a hose and wire a float switch in the bilge, with a solid state
relay by the existing switch in the head, wired in parallel. Rewire at the
panel for 24/7. This in my 33ii, and supplemental to the stock diaphragm pump.
(Incidentally, The remote pump and separate switch arrangement prevents the
cycling pump issue, at the expense of a little water in the bilge.)
Anyone done this?
Dave.

You can do one of the following:
- Raise the mounting of the water witch.
- Use a smaller diameter, or shorter hose

Check valves are designed for preventing instantaneous backflow.
Pretty much all of them will eventually leak the water back into the bilge,
so you will still cycle, only with a longer period.
If you want to go that road, you can install a normally closed valve that
opens when the bilge pump comes on.
However, this adds complication to the system which is never a good thing.
I prefer a small bilge pump (500 gph) with a small diameter (3/8 id) hose
to keep the bilge dry, and a larger (2000 gph) one (1-1/2 id) with a higher
float switch if more pumping is needed.

Stus-List Baby stay track end cap

Our baby stay is attached to the deck via Kenyon 1 1/4 inch traveler using

surfaces with hollow center. The jib sheets can get caught and chafed on the
forward edge so am looking for a cap to cover the end and provide a smooth
surface. Tried Rigrite who list the cap on their web site but they advise they
are no longer available. Defender has several on its web site, but are for
slipping over current track designs and will not fit

Any thoughts?

Subject: Stus-List Bilge pump switch

When I was looking to replace my automatic bilge pump switch, the Water Witch
was high on my list of choices until I read this note on the Water Witch
website.

NOTE:

If large amounts of rain water can enter the bilge, it may dilute the normal,
fresh or salt, water outside our
sensitivity window. Corrective action can be to switch pump on manually to
remove diluted water or to
add minerals such as salt, baking soda, bilge cleaners, etc... NORMAL FRESH
WATER HAS AMPLE
MINERAL CONTENT FOR PROPER OPERATION.

Since the only water coming into my boat is rainwater from the keel stepped
mast, the Water Witch was no longer a viable option. Some people who install
this switch may not be aware of this shortcoming which can cause unexpected non
performance.

Was eyeing the same space and will order a Bomar access hatch to do just
that on the 33ii. No teak and holly, just a fiberglass liner that traps a
small storage/ventialtion/inspection opportunity. There's a much larger
wasted space under the v-berth on the 33ii that has a plan attached.

The section of sole under my nav table, where I put my feet, was just
screwed down to the interior liner. I pulled it up and cut a hole in the
liner, accessing an area big enough for tool storage so I can use the top
drawer for something else. It's far enough aft and high enough that any
bilge water doesn't find its way up there. I hinged the teak and holly to
be a lid.

Stus-List Bigle pump line routing...

2016-01-03 Thread Dave Godwin via CnC-List
Happy New Year listers!

The recent thread on bilge pump switches and the back flow problems attendant
is of interest to me in another manner.

I’m just finishing up painting the bilge and will be planning a two bilge pump
installation to replace the original small single pump. The original 37’
electric bilge pump design routed a line from the pump near the base of the
mast step up to a tee in the starboard cockpit drain. Along with that line was
another, smaller, tee connection for the starboard deck scupper drain. The port
side had a similar set up just for the port scupper drain. The “major” water
removal pump is the manual diaphragm pump in the cockpit next to the wheel.
Outside of the manual bilge pump, I have always hated the other systems.

My plan for the refit is to run a dedicated line from a new, large capacity,
electric bilge pump straight aft to a new through-hull in the stern counter,
just above (below?) the outflow for the current manual bilge discharge. This
pump intake will be placed at a higher level and reserved for large amounts of
water in the bilge. The scupper drain lines and tees have been removed and
closed off.

My problem is what to do with the line from the current smaller bilge pump that
is used to remove the “regular” bilge water. Short of drilling yet another hole
in the stern counter, I will have to run it back to its existing tee on the
starboard cockpit drain.

Any different and novel layouts or ideas amongst the listers that might
alleviate this problem?
