external-graphic

2001-10-29 Thread Adnan Zelkanovic

I have a very big problem:

"external-graphic" doesn't work with my Cocoon2. If I run my xml/xsl-files
without Cocoon2 from fop.bat, then it works perfect. The generated pdf-file
contains the image. But if I try to generate the pdf with Cocoon2 "on the
fly", the generated pdf-file doesn't contain the image. What does it mean?
I'm using the "external graphic"-tag just with "src" only, nothing else. The
value of "src" is "file:image.jpg" for example. Why does it work with FOP
only, but not with Cocoon2 together? Is this a bug of Cocoon2/Tomcat/FOP or
something else?

most likely javac.jar is which you want to drop into the right place (eg.
webapps/cocoon/WEB-INF/lib or something similar).

Help!Cocoon2+XSP

2001-10-29 Thread Skladov, Victor

Hello friends!

Need your help urgently!
I am new to Cocoon and XSP, so sorry for this question...
THE PROBLEM:
I'm writing an XSP, that reads from the DB the names of different items
and lists them in a table in a HTML document. Then on mouse click upon
any item a new window with another HTML-Document must be opened with the
information about this item. The count of items, their description etc.
may vary everytime, so it's clear to me that in the 1st HTML the names
of items must be packed in a VARIABLE, that then must be transmitted
further to another XSP, which shows an information about the item
clicked. HOW CAN I DO THAT? I haven't found good examples im Net so far.

Would be very very grateful for a example or a good link!

Thanks in advance!

Viktor

Seems you have to learn HTML/HTTP first.
Look for CGI-Programming.
I think the answe for your question is to use request parameters

In XSP you can read this parameter and generate your database query.

I had the same error on Solaris 2.8 Sun JVM 1.3.1b4 with Oracle 9iAS
Object Container for J2EE (Orion web server) and Cocoon 2.0rc1.
IMO is problem of semaphores, shared memory or something like this,
connected with Operating system resources.
My solutions was do not used flag "-server" on the JVM arguments.
  Best regards, Marcelo.

You
can.
The
question is - how.
One
easy approach is to use GET or POST like this one for HTTP
GET:
URL
url = new URL ("/myproducer?xml="+URLEncoder.encode
(myxmlstring));

You
can map /myproducer to a xsp file or your own producer.

If you
do have further questions feel free to contact me directly.

Installing actions

2001-10-29 Thread Jozsa Kristof

I wrote a HelloWorld-like action based on the docs located in my cocoon
install: /cocoon/documents/actions. I've put the file in
/cocoon/WEB-INF/classes (using the package name 'test', so
/test/HelloWorldAction.class).

I've put the following lines in my sitemap:

and wrote hello/hello_world.xsp which tries to use the parameter passed by
HelloWorldAction.

However, if i try to reach host:8080/cocoon/hello, I get the following
Cocoon dump:
--
type internal-server-error

message UnnamedSelector: ComponentSelector could not find the component for
hint: hello-world

description org.apache.avalon.framework.component.ComponentException:
UnnamedSelector: ComponentSelector could not find the component for hint:
hello-world
--

..which means exactly afaik that Cocoon is unable to find the right Avalon
component for the specified action, eg. cant find HelloWorldAction.class

I've tried to check the internal Cocoon logs, but that did not helped me. So
the question is - anyone can please tell me what's wrong with the above
setup?

Thanks much in advance,
Christopher

Hi List,

OK, I solved this on my own. With my test-configuration (Win2000/IBM
Apache/WS3.5.4) I have to put cocoon.xconf also in the classpath
(servlet dir) and define the Init Parm "configuration" to
"cocoon.xconf".

But I still have mapping troubles, if I call:

http://myserver/cocoon/

Cocoon tries to redirect me to:

http://myserver/welcome wich throws an 404, instead of
http://myserver/cocoon/welcome

Cheers, Michael

I believe I have read something about that in the dev mailinglist. I think
there are people working at it. I don't know what the current state is.

The problem is the context. If you generate the pdf in a batch, FOP searches
for the in the directory of that xsl. In Cocoon the 'working dir' is
somewhere else.
This is a bug.
You can look for that working dir.

Another workaround would be to use http:// for the link. With SVG, this one
helped me.

Could you tell me where to find this "working directory"?
I've tried anything I found, but nothing works!

With SVG, this one
helped me.

Re: temp directory

2001-10-29 Thread Michael McKibben

Sorry if you've already received a reply to this, but the timing of my
apache list mail seems to be lagged...

Did you try getting Constants.CONTEXT_WORK_DIR from the context passed to
your generator via the object model (or if you extend from
ServletGenerator the context is available as a proteted member)?

Tomcat 4.0.1 and Cocoon 1.8.x

2001-10-29 Thread Stephen

I have just tried to upgrade Tomcat 3.2.1 to 4.0.1 using Cocoon 1.8.x
and guess what? IT DON'T WORK. I know the differences between 4.0 and
3.2.1 but I just can't seem to get it to work. I get
WEB-INF/cocoon.properties could not be found or something to that
effect. I also tried /WEB-INF/cocoon.properties and still no-go. I read
somewhere in a mailing list of someone having the same problem but never
saw the answer.

Thanks for any input,
Stephen.

Newbie Question

2001-10-29 Thread Tanzila Mohammad

Hello all,

I am trying to get started, I have installed cocoon successfully and I am
able to view the examples via local host.

I have the following scenario:

HTML file --1-> FO file --2--> PDF File

I have the XSL stylesheet to do the conversion 1 and the html file. I have
ran these independently using saxon, then FOP so I know the underlying code
is correct. But I am not sure how to actually execute each stage in Cocoon
(cocoon functions - to produce the FO file etc).

I apologize for the basic level of this question.

Cocoon2 and dynamically generated stylesheets

2001-10-29 Thread Markus Klann

Hi all,

I am trying to find a way of setting up a cocoon2 pipeline that uses a
stylesheet in one XSLT transformation that has been generated by the
preceeding XSLT transformation.

This problem is similar to the one described by Tobias Kiesling on Sep. 9th
2001.

As Tobias pointed out, the general process can be achieved by creating an
XML document in the first step that contains the stylesheet needed in the
second step as an embedded section. This works using xalan stand-alone.
Taking into account that xalan looks for a processing instruction in the XML
document when not supplied with a stylesheet, one might think that putting
or even into the sitemap would do
the job. From looking at org.apache.cocoon.transformation.TraxTransformer I
see that omitting the src attribute is prohibited and supplying an empty
string as its parameter causes an exception. I don't yet understand the
inner workings of cocoon2 but wouldn't it be possible to define one of the
above options as a way of telling the XSLT transformer to look for a PI?

Maybe I am getting something wrong about the way of using cocoon2. Maybe any
of you guys can tell me about the 'right way' of using cocoon2 in the
following scenario: I want to post an XML document to the server, which
describes a structured query and points to another XML document sitting on
that server on which the query is to be performed. The response should be
the result of the query, possibly piped through further XSLT
transformations. My approach was to transform the XML document representing
the query into another XML document with an embedded stylesheet implementing
the query by use of XPATH and accessing the 'data' XML document via the
document() function (using an XPATH expression passed in as a variable is
not possible :-(). If you look at it, this process is quite elegant. I am
not convinced that allowing for such a process would break the content-style
separation, as not all XSLT-transformations are (strictly) about
representation.

Thanks a lot for any help,

  Markus

Maybe I need an entry in my WEB-INF/web.xml file like:

  extra-classpath
  WEB-INF/classes

??

That's all I could find out.. but that did not helped even :( Maybe I need
to set it somewhere else too to let Cocoon find my own Action class
somewhere?

Please help.. I'm getting lost completely.

Stylesheets using Logicsheets

2001-10-29 Thread Luis Gois

If I understood, you wan't to fetch some HTML
generated in a logicsheet from your stylesheet, right?
I have a stylesheet where I keep my FORM related
templates so I can apply them whenever I have in my generated XML
(post-logicsheet processing) a specific tag and a set of attributes which define
that FORM behaviour, like "action" or "method" or if it is a submit element or a
multiple choice one (checkbox, select list, etc). I could just generate HTML in
a logicsheet and then copy it to my stylesheet using the "xsl:copy-of" element,
but I think this way is pretier!:)

Example :

XML:

Stylesheet calls (instead of having a
header:loginButton):

where

note : having the tags inside
s some browsers will expand the cell dimensions, because of this, I
always put tags between and , for
example.

[C2] esql nested queries

2001-10-29 Thread Mark S. Kent

I'm trying to find the best way to organize my XML data before doing the XSL
stylesheet, and wanted to create my queries using ESQL nesting like this:

  select foo from bar

  select foo1 from bar1 where id = a (where
"a" id from "ancestor=1" query just before)

  select foo2 from bar2 where name = b
(where "b" name from "ancestor=1" query just before)

which produces results of:
data 1
  data first sub 1
data second sub 1
data second sub 2

  data first sub 2
data second sub 1

data 2
  data first sub 1
data second sub 1
data second sub 2

...and so on...

I know this is easier is XSLT to process, but my concern is for Cocoon and
the potentially huge number of times these sub-queries have to run for each
previous query result-set. If I had 20 results from the first query and 100
from the second query, that means the third query would "run" 2000 times.
Can someone confirm for me that this is how Cocoon2 handles these sub-query
requests? I'd rather not hammer the database like that.

My alternative was a "flat" XML structure for the third-level data (which
included the data from the level 1 and 2 queries) but was making the
processing in XSLT more difficult.

Thanks in advance!
Mark

Re: [cocoon 1.8.2 Tomcat] New Site

2001-10-29 Thread Jesper Rasmussen

Hi, there
I dont know if this would be a good idea, but
do you know about TopicMaps? or more specific the xml version XTM?
(see http://www.topicmaps.org/)
Shortly XTM is a xml standard which describes a topicmap which is a
semantic map, which again is a graph of topics and associations.
I find it very usefull as a mean to define the structure and relationship
between information nodes or topic.
A very good api for java (TM4J) exists.

In the solution im curently building i use it defining menues, newsboard
message relationships,.
I have previously used it to represent the relationships, in a
newsgroup/mail list, between message, from, to and thread, in order to
visualize it.

Why am i advocation it? Because it is a fantastic way to give meaning to
information. But more important that it will be even more interesting when
many uses it and generic browsers exist.

cheers

resultpath : where tour HTML files go
