Our first idea is always to have with us a SD full of games to play. Because the last two months we did not do much, I am announcing it, so other gamers can try it. All the games which use the new gamecontrol does not work well the first time you run these. After, all go okey. Arne, You're right. So, please forgive the length of this post: those entirely tangogps related mails are filling up my account and have nothing to do with openmoko. please, stop abusing other projects infrastructure for your personal needs. I really hadn't intended this to get this crazy, when I posted asking Marcus what facilities were available to keep up what he's doing upstream and to communicate with the rest of the tangoGPS-hacking community. When I asked those questions, they were intended to be quick and easy to answer--and the expected quick exchange was indeed relevant to the Openmoko community, since there are so many people here who have been using and hacking on tangoGPS (or at least trying to). But it's devolved into high-traffic tiff with upstream just calling people names, and everyone else sharing their *frustrations*. I don't know if Marcus has actually *watched* (or at least listened to) that video that he referenced earlier in the thread (in message-ID 2010010653.776db...@acer, if anyone actually wants to go re-read the whole discussion in gmane or something): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSFDm3UYkeE ... but we all should watch it--it's pretty good. As they say, the community mailing-list isn't a group therapy session. It's clear that we're not getting anywhere, anyway. So, here goes: I'm forking tangoGPS. And this doesn't make me a `poisonous person'. This fork is being done with all possible respect, and I do still hope that it will be on the best possible terms--perhaps like when EGCS forked from GCC, or when people `fork' the Linux kernel to work on new subsystems: a good-natured fork to do more `experimental' exploration that may not be immediately possible or appropriate for Marcus in tangoGPS. Marcus will be free to incorporate whatever work we do on this new fork into future releases of tangoGPS, if he likes--on whatever timeline he likes; he'll also be free to ignore the parts that he doesn't like. As will everyone else. We're going to have a go at integrating libgps, for example. I'm going to try to do my best to provide a sense of leadership and direction on this new project (let's call it foxtrotGPS--I'm sure we can find many reasons for that name; I already have a slew of my own :)), and to be responsive when people submit patches for review (and hopefully inclusion). Even for people whose patches don't go upstream, we'll have a Bazaar VCS repository that you can use to keep track of what we're doing upstream and help maintain your patches (branches) going forward. If anyone's interested in relevant public discussion on foxtrotGPS, we have the foss-gps mailing list hosted by the folks at OSGeo: http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS-GPS Thank you, Risto, for asking them create it :) Marcus: if you would like to talk about why I feel the need to fork your project and am proceeding despite my afore-mentioned reluctance-- and what, if anything, it means to you--we can talk about that privately. Let me know, and I'll give you my telephone-number--e-mail just doesn't seem to have enough bandwidth for us; I'd *really* prefer if we could keep things cordial and professional between our two projects. So, here we go. It'll be an adventure. We can dance if we want to. I know some people are probably going to be very excited by this news, but it takes a couple of days to get a fork properly bootstrapped-- it's not *just* `run through the codebase and change names' :) So please be patient, let your passions cool a *little* bit, and there will be something to show this weekend. Thank you, all. (And thank you, Marcus, especially!) -rozzin. -- Don't be afraid to ask (λf.((λx.xx) (λr.f(rr. Thanks, I was waiting for that since start of that discussion. If I were more interested in GPS apps, then I would do that myself ;) But doing something I won't be able to continue just to show something to someone would be a non-sense. Code available in some decent version control system is a must have to me when I'm contributing to some project, and in my opinion not having such SCM is good reason to fork. I wish both of projects good, as I like TangoGPS, but I don't like fact, that it doesn't have any public SCM available for read only access. I hope everything from FoxtrotGPS that can be merged into TangoGPS will be merged, and thanks to that both projects will become better. Forks

Re: tangoGPS community development, patches (was: tangoGPS magnify patch)
Seriously, you know I'm a fan of your software (wrote you a few e-mail IIRC) but lately, in every thread I read, you are scaring away potential contributors and you never really answer the basic questions: 1) why don't you give people feedback on their patches? 2) why don't you use a mailinglist/SVN/bugtracker? if you did this, you wouldn't have to worry about a fork: 3) what is bad about a fork? I have no troubles whatsoever if you say: It's my project and I don't want to give anybody else even the slightest influence it's your right to do that but ATM your words and actions are contradictory: either say a) that you want to do tangogps solo (or with a select few that you chose) and tell people to fuck off with their stupid attempts at patches, or say b) that they are welcome to try and help out, and set up some infrastructure or at least give them feedback either way, there will be no need for anyone anymore to complain to you Beaviour like this (previous e-mails) is making me consider to opkg remove tangogps and install a fork as soon as it comes out and no, this does not mean that forking is bad, this means that forking gives people a choice people will chose the best one (like I did when we couldn't load gpx tracks in the official tangogps version, but could in a patched version - http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/devel/2009-April/005321.html -) I forwarded you that message and got no response, for which I personally do not blame you btw It was only a forward and took me 2 seconds But if I had written a patch, and got no response, I would seriously consider not writing a patch again in the future And yes, I'm not a programmer, but I have tried to do what I can; help people on IRC in the early days, file bug reports, do some early testing for a bunch of programmes, try to give feedback to the creators, add things to the wiki, I even consider some of my posts on the ML us...) In short: please answer those three questions -1) 2) 3)- (or don't, that is an answer on it's own) and communicate a) or b) (or c if you have a different opinion) just make it sure that everyone knows what they can expect because at this moment people have made efforts they wouldn't have done if they had known were they stood (e.g. not getting any feedback to a patch) I personally hope the project continues to evolve and improve, because I find it a big addition to the available software on the openmoko. might be an idea worth considering: have the possibility to calculate a route, and pre-render the bitmaps of your route (at a few zoom-levels) This way it doesn't have to be done on the fly when you know for example where you are going to travel to when you don't follow the planned route it will of course render new files when nescessary you should also have the option to delete them afterwards of course or maybe a setting two way trip; this setting wil save all the rendered files on your way to your destination, use the pre-rendered images on your way back, and ask you if you want to delete them when you return home just an idea On Mon, Dec 14, 2009 at 10:32 AM, Mike Crash m...@mikecrash.com wrote: Sure I'm using speed data from OSM and if not available, set it based on way type and common speeds. This has made tangoGPS *much* more usable for me on my FreeRunner, because I can actually read the labels for streets, etc. without holding the screen very close to my face :) (I guess that the OpenStreetMap tiles are rasterised expecting something like 96 DPI, but the FreeRunner's display runs at ~280 DPI, so text and icons used in OSM tiles is *very* small when displayed on the FreeRunner without any upsampling; `zooming the details' by 1 level makes everything legible at arm's length, and zooming the details by 2 levels makes the text easy to read even at a glance while driving). I've attached 2 separate patches: one patch that adds the `back end' of the feature (a new `global_detail_zoom' variable with the corresponding gconf hooks, and some minor-changes to the tile-loading code), and another patch that adds the front-end GUI for the feature (an additional submenu in the map screen, and a couple of new callbacks to accompany the new menu-items). I added the submenu and menu-items manually in interface.c--it looks like Marcus is using Glade to maintain the GUI, but I'm not entirely sure (I didn't see glade-file in the tarball...); if he still *is* using Glade, then it may make more sense to defined these submenus via Glade. -- Don't be afraid to ask (Lf.((Lx.xx) (Lr.f(rr. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

A new version of sgt-puzzles is now in the repository[1], and also uploaded on opkg.org[2]. There's now a new homepage[3] for it, and the code (for the build system, patches etc) is available in svn[4]. This package includes a shell script that lets users disable/enable individual desktop icons, making it possible to reduce the number even without installing a launcher. It also includes some basic support for launchers, automatically removing the desktop icons when a compatible launcher is installed, except those icons that have been explicitly enabled (so you can have both a launcher, and your favorite games on the desktop for quick access). More details on the homepage[3]. I've also created such a launcher, and packaged it separately. It is fairly simple, just displays a grid of plain buttons, but space is so limited due to the number of games that I'm not sure how to fit anything more fancy anyway. If someone wants to make a better launcher, there are details for the interaction between them on the homepage[3]. The launcher is also available in the repository[1] and on opkg.org[5], source is in an svn repo[6], and it has its own homepage[7] with more information. To make it easier to discover the launcher, the sgt-puzzles package suggests it - opkg apparently mentions suggestions when installing the package. :) One thing I haven't gotten the launcher to do yet, is single-instancing the games. I'm not sure what the best approach for that would be - looking for open X windows? looking for running processes? is there a standard way of doing this, that would work here? (keep in mind the launcher doesn't stay running after selecting a game, so looking at the process tree doesn't help.) On the other hand I'm not sure how important it is, either. Increasing GPS accuracy with EGNOS
Hi all, http://www.esa.int/esaNA/SEM2HGF280G_egnos_0.html The European Union has opened its Egnos navigation augmentation system for public use: The EGNOS signals can be received by GPS receivers equipped with a specific software. In combination with Egnos signals, the accuracy of GPS navigation can be improved significantly; according to ESA, users can navigate with an accuracy of about 2 meters as opposed to GPS alone which provides an accuracy of 10 meters. We have tried this with FR and firmware moko11 with Joerg Reisenweber: no SIM card, and try to see neighbour cells. We tried to see if FSO was able to give some output through monitoring interface. But it did not work. yeah I tried with a SIM that was expired (1year inactivity on a pre-paid SIM -- SIM gets deactivated) it said SOS only but openBmap could see anything didn't try AT commands... y ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: The University of São Paulo's intent to join Op enmoko development

I happened to be working with Dr. Marcelo Zuffo, a full professor and the head of the Laboratory for Integrated Systems at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, on an unrelated project. I asked Dr. Zuffo if the university would be willing to join the Openmoko community and to provide critical resources to the task at hand. I subsequently have met with Dr. Zuffo several times on this matter, have seen his facilities (which include a very modern and state-of-the-art SMT line) and have discussed the goals of the community to design and prototype a completely open design for a cellular phone. Dr. Zuffo and the university understand your issues, understand free and open source software and hardware and are willing to assist the community with this project. I might add that the university can bring several new capabilities to the community: First of all, Dr. Zuffo has discussed the Openmoko project with the Minister of Telecommunications of Brazil, and the Minister is very enthusiastic about the concept. Having the support of the government of the twelfth largest economy behind the project might really help us with various negotiations with vendors. Secondly the University has been working on several aspects of telecommunications for a long time, and therefore has expertise in telephonic security and codecs (among other things) that could be of use to the Openmoko community. Third, the university has the ability and expertise to design new integrated circuits. Recently they designed a a range of analog-digital chips. Therefore the possibility of developing, manufacturing and freely licensing new chips to help reduce the cost of the phone is possible. Forth, while the facilities I mentioned are capable of producing up to 10,000 units at the rate of one circuit board every 30 seconds, the purpose of the facilities is research, developing and support projects that can lead innovation, the lab's charter does not allow them to manufacture more units then the 10,000 because that would be commercial production. Therefore the university has a goal of freely licensing the design to companies for manufacture. Fifth, the university would be happy to host the mailing lists and forums of the Openmoko project. If some of the software projects need hosting and can not find hosting services other places, the university will consider acting as a primary hosting facility for these projects. Sixth, personally I would like to see this concept extended, of inviting more universities and their facilities to help with this project world-wide. I hope that the leadership of the University of Sao Paulo will help create the structure and inspiration for this to happen. Finally, the university has a non-profit legal entity, LSITEC, which can easily do the type of paperwork that Sean's company did (NDAs, certification) so the community can leverage off that. I know that there will be a lot of questions and considerations to take before the community is comfortable with this relationship. Dr. Zuffo has asked that I help coordinate the joining together of the university with the community, and in the interest of seeing Openmoko continue to do the fine work started by Sean and all of you, I will be glad to help in this capacity. I am monitoring the community mailing list, and people are also welcome to email me directly (mad...@li.org) with questions that you do not (for any reason) wish to post to the list. A copy of Dr. Zuffo's letter of intent is below. I have the original PDF if anyone would like to see it, but it was too big to make it through the community's standards on mailing lists unmoderated, and I thought you might like to see this as soon as possible. Good point, just check in if the direrectory exist if true symlink if not create it. r -- | risto h. kurppa | risto at kurppa dot fi | http://risto.kurppa.fi ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community -- David Reyes Samblas Martinez http://www.tuxbrain.com Open ultraportable embedded solutions Openmoko, Openpandora, Arduino Hey, watch out!!! Re: [possibly any] Your storage is full
I think it is because it stores the SENT smses, but does not display them On Sun, May 17, 2009 at 9:09 AM, ivvmm unachieva...@gmail.com wrote: Hello list. My friend's been having this problem for a long time(since I installed her SHR, before that it was FDOM). And I experience it myself. The message 'Your storage is full' is being displayed for me each time the distribution boots and nothing could be done with it. Cannot see _ANY_ sms in the messages app. There is _nothing_ displayed. My friend says she's been able to delete them by inserting the sim into her Motorola and deleting them by hand there. What's the problem here? What app works with the sim card? Does the gsm modem work with it so it is broken or is it just a modem? ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
