We have been working in this idea for a couple of months (in 2009),
improving current openmoko games, and writting a game control useful
 for any game.
Our first idea is always to have with us a SD full of games to play.

Because the last two months we did not do much, I am announcing it,
so other gamers can try it.

All the games which use the new gamecontrol does not work
well the first time you run these. After, all go okey.

Moreover, we need to improve that general game control
that we are writting, because it is not so cool yet.
But well, you can play if you know well it :)

For other games we have worked improving speed as well.

If we get some free time to continue we will add super nintendo
emulator (which we already have tested) and new versions
 of the new game control.

After, we'll add more games specifically built for this game distro.

The web site has some docs as well about our work.

 Cheers

  Arne,

You're right. So, please forgive the length of this post:

those entirely tangogps related mails are filling up my account and have
  nothing to do with openmoko.

please, stop abusing other projects infrastructure for your personal
 needs.

I really hadn't intended this to get this crazy, when I posted
asking Marcus what facilities were available to keep up what he's
doing upstream and to communicate with the rest of the
  tangoGPS-hacking community.

When I asked those questions, they were intended to be quick and easy
to answer--and the expected quick exchange was indeed relevant to the
Openmoko community, since there are so many people here who have been
using and hacking on tangoGPS (or at least trying to).

But it's devolved into high-traffic tiff with upstream just calling
people names, and everyone else sharing their *frustrations*.

I don't know if Marcus has actually *watched* (or at least listened to)
that video that he referenced earlier in the thread (in message-ID
2010010653.776db...@acer, if anyone actually wants to go re-read
the whole discussion in gmane or something):

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSFDm3UYkeE

... but we all should watch it--it's pretty good.

As they say, the community mailing-list isn't a group therapy session.
It's clear that we're not getting anywhere, anyway.

So, here goes: I'm forking tangoGPS.

And this doesn't make me a `poisonous person'. This fork is being done
with all possible respect, and I do still hope that it will be on the
best possible terms--perhaps like when EGCS forked from GCC, or when
people `fork' the Linux kernel to work on new subsystems: a good-natured
fork to do more `experimental' exploration that may not be immediately
possible or appropriate for Marcus in tangoGPS. Marcus will be free to
incorporate whatever work we do on this new fork into future releases
of tangoGPS, if he likes--on whatever timeline he likes; he'll also
be free to ignore the parts that he doesn't like. As will everyone else.

We're going to have a go at integrating libgps, for example.

I'm going to try to do my best to provide a sense of leadership and
direction on this new project (let's call it foxtrotGPS--I'm sure we
can find many reasons for that name; I already have a slew of my own :)),
and to be responsive when people submit patches for review (and hopefully
inclusion). Even for people whose patches don't go upstream, we'll have
a Bazaar VCS repository that you can use to keep track of what we're
doing upstream and help maintain your patches (branches) going forward.

If anyone's interested in relevant public discussion on foxtrotGPS,
we have the foss-gps mailing list hosted by the folks at OSGeo:

 http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS-GPS

Thank you, Risto, for asking them create it :)

Marcus: if you would like to talk about why I feel the need to fork
your project and am proceeding despite my afore-mentioned reluctance--
and what, if anything, it means to you--we can talk about that privately.

Let me know, and I'll give you my telephone-number--e-mail just doesn't
seem to have enough bandwidth for us; I'd *really* prefer if we could
keep things cordial and professional between our two projects.

So, here we go. It'll be an adventure.
We can dance if we want to.

I know some people are probably going to be very excited by this news,
but it takes a couple of days to get a fork properly bootstrapped--
it's not *just* `run through the codebase and change names' :)

So please be patient, let your passions cool a *little* bit,
and there will be something to show this weekend.

  Thank you, all.

  (And thank you, Marcus, especially!)

  -rozzin.

  Don't be afraid to ask (λf.((λx.xx) (λr.f(rr.

Thanks, I was waiting for that since start of that discussion. If I
were more interested in GPS apps, then I would do that myself ;) But
doing something I won't be able to continue just to show something to
 someone would be a non-sense.

Code available in some decent version control system is a must have to
me when I'm contributing to some project, and in my opinion not having
such SCM is good reason to fork.

I wish both of projects good, as I like TangoGPS, but I don't like
fact, that it doesn't have any public SCM available for read only
access. I hope everything from FoxtrotGPS that can be merged into
TangoGPS will be merged, and thanks to that both projects will become
 better.

Re: tangoGPS community development, patches (was: tangoGPS magnify patch)

2010-04-13 Thread Yorick Moko
Seriously, you know I'm a fan of your software (wrote you a few e-mail IIRC)
but lately, in every thread I read, you are scaring away potential
contributors
and you never really answer the basic questions:

1) why don't you give people feedback on their patches?
2) why don't you use a mailinglist/SVN/bugtracker?
if you did this, you wouldn't have to worry about a fork:
3) what is bad about a fork?

I have no troubles whatsoever if you say: It's my project and I don't want
to give anybody else even the slightest influence
it's your right to do that
but ATM your words and actions are contradictory:

either say
a) that you want to do tangogps solo (or with a select few that you chose)
and tell people to fuck off with their stupid attempts at patches,
or say
b) that they are welcome to try and help out, and set up some infrastructure
or at least give them feedback
either way, there will be no need for anyone anymore to complain to you

Beaviour like this (previous e-mails) is making me consider to opkg remove
tangogps and install a fork as soon as it comes out
and no, this does not mean that forking is bad, this means that forking
gives people a choice
people will chose the best one
(like I did when we couldn't load gpx tracks in the official tangogps
version, but could in a patched version -
http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/devel/2009-April/005321.html -)
I forwarded you that message and got no response, for which I personally do
not blame you btw
It was only a forward and took me 2 seconds
But if I had written a patch, and got no response, I would seriously
consider not writing a patch again in the future

And yes, I'm not a programmer, but I have tried to do what I can; help
people on IRC in the early days, file bug reports, do some early testing for
a bunch of programmes, try to give feedback to the creators, add things to
the wiki, I even consider some of my posts on the ML us...)

In short:
please answer those three questions -1) 2) 3)- (or don't, that is an answer
on it's own)
and communicate a) or b)
(or c if you have a different opinion)
just make it sure that everyone knows what they can expect
because at this moment people have made efforts they wouldn't have done if
they had known were they stood (e.g. not getting any feedback to a patch)

I personally hope the project continues to evolve and improve, because I
find it a big addition to the available software on the openmoko.

Kind regards,
yorick

you can use firebug to easily figure out the url of an image. usually
only the version number changes. a quick check reveals that it is now
at v=55. if you keep older version numbers, the servers will refuse the

Or alternatively perhaps we should encourage that sort of discussion to

just asking him to consider his choice of forum more considerately. Doing so

volume while calling and it was better, but I think this setting has not
been saved. Is it normal ?
 - desktop scrolling is still slow (alas), what were the effects to
disable or the theme to use to make it a bit faster ?
 - midori has huge scroll bars (why a horizontal one ?), is there a way

Re: Some questions about Navit

2010-01-08 Thread Yorick Moko
In The Name of Myself

Hi Dehqan

1 - Tangogps has an option that let us to use google sat maps , Can google
sat maps be used with Navit ?
no they can't, because tangogps uses images and navit uses vector data
this is also why the maps for navit are a lot smaller, but scrolling and
zooming takes more time
it might be possible to patch it to let it display google sat images and
display them; and calculate a route based on the (invisible) vectordata, but
that would require MAJOR work I think

2- To set up route , in
thishttp://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Navit#Enter_Town step
after selecting country (Iran) , town should be selected , but there is not
town name in list , humble wrote town name manualy now, how to save it ? of
course humble started from
thishttp://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Navit#Select_Country step
to setup route . are previous steps required?
The problem would be that the name town you wanted to select isn't in the
map data you downloaded
that could be due to (I think):
town not entered in openstreetmaps
town entered, but no is_in: Iran tag specified of something like that

you can correct this by contributing to OSM and editing the town's label

3 - To use speech http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Navit#Speech option on
Navit ,this speech-dispatcher http://www.freebsoft.org/speechd is required
but it's link http://www.freebsoft.org/speechd is down
I have never used speech, but I can navigate to
http://www.freebsoft.org/speechd
you can check the status of that site here:
http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/http://www.freebsoft.org/speechd

Hope this helps!

might be an idea worth considering:

have the possibility to calculate a route, and pre-render the bitmaps of
your route (at a few zoom-levels)
This way it doesn't have to be done on the fly when you know for example
where you are going to travel to
when you don't follow the planned route it will of course render new files
when nescessary

you should also have the option to delete them afterwards of course

or maybe a setting two way trip;
this setting wil save all the rendered files on your way to your
destination,
use the pre-rendered images on your way back, and ask you if you want to
delete them when you return home

just an idea

I don't have any idea, how the code looks like, but I guess, that you
use gps-positions as heuristic and distances as edge-weights. That
means that you always get the shortest path. If you want to get the
fastes path, then you have to use timevalues calculated by possible
speed and edge-length. With openstreetmaps that can be difficult,
because many roads don't have any speedsproperties. You often only can
use the roadtype depending on country to guess the speed.
Maybe you used this, but in a first shit, I guess that you don't.

I hope these ideas can help you improving your tool.

please also sent your patches to Marcus Bauer (the author of TangoGPS)

On Mon, Nov 2, 2009 at 4:18 PM, Joshua Judson Rosen roz...@geekspace.comwrote:

 Hi everybody,

I've added a feature to my copy of tangoGPS, and thought that others
might be interested: it allows the *details* in the map (e.g.: text,
icons) to be scaled up (to show fewer details, but make the shown
details bigger) or scaled down (to render the details smaller, but
 show more of them).

This has made tangoGPS *much* more usable for me on my FreeRunner,
because I can actually read the labels for streets, etc. without
holding the screen very close to my face :)

(I guess that the OpenStreetMap tiles are rasterised expecting
something like 96 DPI, but the FreeRunner's display runs at ~280 DPI,
so text and icons used in OSM tiles is *very* small when displayed on
the FreeRunner without any upsampling; `zooming the details' by 1
level makes everything legible at arm's length, and zooming the
details by 2 levels makes the text easy to read even at a glance while
 driving).

I've attached 2 separate patches: one patch that adds the `back end'
of the feature (a new `global_detail_zoom' variable with the
corresponding gconf hooks, and some minor-changes to the tile-loading
code), and another patch that adds the front-end GUI for the feature
(an additional submenu in the map screen, and a couple of new
callbacks to accompany the new menu-items).

I added the submenu and menu-items manually in interface.c--it looks
like Marcus is using Glade to maintain the GUI, but I'm not entirely
sure (I didn't see glade-file in the tarball...); if he still *is*
using Glade, then it may make more sense to defined these submenus via
 Glade.

Re: #1024-rework service available

2009-10-23 Thread Yorick Moko
On 10/22/09, Dr. H. Nikolaus Schaller h...@computer.org wrote:
 Hi all,

some users of Neo Freerunner devices have experienced a limited
standby time if the GSM modem goes to the deepest sleep mode. This
became known as the #1024 bug, because that was the number it got in
 the bug tracker (https://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket/1024). The
software workaround was to disable sleep mode 4 as the default.
Although there is a description of a hardware rework solution
 (http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/hardware/2009-May/001192.html
) we do not expect that you can do it yourself. Therefore, we have
 worked on a professional approach.

With the help of a local SMD specialist company in Munich, Golden
Delicious Computers can now offer a rework service to those who really
suffer from this problem. Price is 45 EUR (incl. German VAT of 19%).
If you combine with the Buzz-Rework (for A5 and A6 versions only) it
is 75 EUR. And there is a rebate for groups of 5 or 10 units.

   http://www.handheld-linux.com/wiki.php?page=1024-Rework

 Nikolaus

 Conditions

   • This service is for the EU harmonized market only (sorry for Norway
  Switzerland)
   • Customer will send in, get rework and get the device sent back
 within approx. two weeks
   • The 2 way shipping cost will be covered by the customer.
   • When choosing a parcel service, please choose one that allows you
to track your parcel since we are not responsible for incoming
parcels. For German customers we recommend Hermes-Versand and for UK
 Royal Mail.
   • Please pack carefully, but just the Neo Freerunner (without
battery, battery cover, headset, pouch, stylus, SIM card, SDcard
etc.). We are not responsible for lost accessories - only for the
device. We strongly recommend to use the original black box.
   • In the rare case that we damage your device, you will get a fresh
Neo Freerunner (but your data is lost).
   • If you have several Freerunners to rework, please add as many
Reworks as you want to the shopping cart. This will reduce shipment
cost compared to several single shipments. And, we offer a volume
 discount to encourage group buys (5: 5%; 10: 10%; 50: 15%). Rebates
are automatically shown in the shopping cart.

 Important notes

   • After payment is done, please follow the Rework Instructions
 (http://www.handheld-linux.com/images/Instructions.pdf
 )
   • Please note that we can handle this service only for customers in
the EU harmonized market because temporary import/export is too
complicated if we want to avoid that you (or we) have to pay again the
import tax for your original Freerunner.
   • This is not a Bass-Fix: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/GTA02_bass_fix

How to test if my devices works or needs rework

   • obtain a command line (e.g. ssh from outside)
   • open /usr/bin/mickeyterm
   • type these commands (one after the other)
 AT+CFUN?
AT+CFUN=1 --- only if CFUN? does not report 1
 AT+CPIN=insert your pin
 AT%SLEEP=4
 AT%CSQ=1
 AT+CREG=2

Hi,

thanks for offering this service! (although too bad I already sent my
device once to Germany)
can you give us an indication on how much this would improve batterylife?

I'm assuming it only extends standby-time.

I once saw a graph that indicated that it was a huge boost, but can't
find it anymore

At the moment, this is not planned. Actually evopedia has nothing to do
wth downloading the images, this is done by the browser (of course, it
could be changed). Perhaps you can try to configure the browser to cache
the images. I don't think that downloading some images in advance is a
good idea. That's at least not how I use evopedia, I don't read popular

Every time a new version arrives I provide the Freerunner Community in the

I also changes some basic things to the standard QtMoko version:
 * I create an sdCard installer (Android alike, by flashing qi, rootfs,
 kernel)
 * I add some packages (pkg-fso-keyring vim ntpdate nfs-common mtd-utils
 flite)
 * I add a working version of Navit (under QX), with speech (flite) with an
working map (Benelux) on the sdCard under the MapsNavit folder
 * I change the defaults of the fstab (swap on 2nd partition of sdCard),
 nfs-mount to host (192.168.1.200) /media/jffs2

Maybe this is handy for the rest of the community too? Take a look at the

Re: New version of sgt-puzzles, and a launcher for it

I like the launcher!

On Sun, Oct 4, 2009 at 7:12 AM, EdorFaus edorf...@xepher.net wrote:

 Hi,

I finally got some time to set everything up for these things.

A new version of sgt-puzzles is now in the repository[1], and also uploaded
 on
opkg.org[2]. There's now a new homepage[3] for it, and the code (for the
 build
system, patches etc) is available in svn[4].

This package includes a shell script that lets users disable/enable
 individual
desktop icons, making it possible to reduce the number even without
 installing
a launcher. It also includes some basic support for launchers,
 automatically
removing the desktop icons when a compatible launcher is installed, except
those icons that have been explicitly enabled (so you can have both a
launcher, and your favorite games on the desktop for quick access).

 More details on the homepage[3].

I've also created such a launcher, and packaged it separately. It is fairly
simple, just displays a grid of plain buttons, but space is so limited due
 to
the number of games that I'm not sure how to fit anything more fancy
 anyway.

If someone wants to make a better launcher, there are details for the
interaction between them on the homepage[3].

The launcher is also available in the repository[1] and on opkg.org[5],
 source
is in an svn repo[6], and it has its own homepage[7] with more information.

To make it easier to discover the launcher, the sgt-puzzles package
 suggests
it - opkg apparently mentions suggestions when installing the package. :)

One thing I haven't gotten the launcher to do yet, is single-instancing the
games. I'm not sure what the best approach for that would be - looking for
open X windows? looking for running processes? is there a standard way of
doing this, that would work here? (keep in mind the launcher doesn't stay
running after selecting a game, so looking at the process tree doesn't
 help.)
On the other hand I'm not sure how important it is, either.

Increasing GPS accuracy with EGNOS

2009-10-04 Thread Yorick Moko
Hi all,

http://www.esa.int/esaNA/SEM2HGF280G_egnos_0.html

The European Union has opened its Egnos navigation augmentation system for
public use:

The EGNOS signals can be received by GPS receivers equipped with a specific
software. In combination with Egnos signals, the accuracy of GPS navigation
can be improved significantly; according to ESA, users can navigate with an
accuracy of about 2 meters as opposed to GPS alone which provides an
accuracy of 10 meters.

Seems interesting...

Great news!!
I think this is the most used app for the FR

I've navigated with it on a roadtrip (navit as a backup)
3500km though eastern europe in 5 days (no paper maps or other devices)
I used googlemaps to do the routing, converted the road to gpx and loaded it
in tangogps
this worked great
and we didn't get lost :-)

other apps also use the maps of tangogs (advanced geocaching and evopedia
for example)
which is an acknowledgement that it's a good programme

keep up the good work!

I'm not sure whether the gpx import is part of tangogps by default.
I once wrote a hacked version that did that.

In fact it was not a real XML parser, but only a stupid lookup of strings,
so if it doesn't work any more, it would be easy to make that work again.

Yes, I knew that OBM had imported from OCI but to me the only thing
that matters is how many cells a service has to be used to calculate
the locations of cells, no matter where's the data from. The more data
a service has, the more reliable usable it is for a user (if there
were applications capable of using any of the services to do the
location). So if all three services would sync their info daily/weekly
with having some of their own extra fields I'd be happy as they all
would benefit from each other and they all would have the same sources
to do the locationing the only difference being the algorithms. Yes of
course it'd be a waste of work to maintain three databases.. but isn't
 that the case now anyway?

I would be fine also to reintegrate cells from CellsHunter into
 OpenCellID too

Is there something that stops you from doing so?

 r

this is how I see it, from an end-user point-of-view:

openBmap has the most cells
openBmap maps the most information

all I want is as much cells as possible
AND
know that I'm logging everything that increases the quality of the data
(AFAIK cellhunter logs less information)

openBmap does the trick for both of them

this is of course a personal opinion

The the best audio quality I think they are the on the ear models, like
 Samsung SBH-600: http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/sc/33647838-2-440-OVR-1.gif

For the best portable headset I think they are the earplug ones,
 preferably
with the less weight, like the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970:

 http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/hbh-ds970?lc=encc=gb

As Im before buying a bluetooth headset, Im interesting in this research.
I would like to have better (bluetooth) headset as I would get with the
wire headset (through the jack connector). Btw what is the lowest bandwith
 what
we get through the jack connector? 50Hz? 100Hz?

 Best regards,
  Laszlo

Re: The University of São Paulo's intent to join Op enmoko development

2009-07-13 Thread Yorick Moko
this seems to be really good news,
good work!

On Mon, Jul 13, 2009 at 1:02 PM, Jon 'maddog' Hall mad...@li.org wrote:

 Dear Openmoko Community,

In light of the refocusing of Sean's company on consumer items, there
has been a perceived vacuum created in the Openmoko community's efforts
to create next-generation open cellular smart phones.

I happened to be working with Dr. Marcelo Zuffo, a full professor and
the head of the Laboratory for Integrated Systems at the University of
São Paulo, Brazil, on an unrelated project. I asked Dr. Zuffo if the
university would be willing to join the Openmoko community and to
provide critical resources to the task at hand.

I subsequently have met with Dr. Zuffo several times on this matter,
have seen his facilities (which include a very modern and
state-of-the-art SMT line) and have discussed the goals of the community
to design and prototype a completely open design for a cellular phone.
Dr. Zuffo and the university understand your issues, understand free and
open source software and hardware and are willing to assist the
 community with this project.

I might add that the university can bring several new capabilities to
 the community:

First of all, Dr. Zuffo has discussed the Openmoko project with the
Minister of Telecommunications of Brazil, and the Minister is very
enthusiastic about the concept. Having the support of the government of
the twelfth largest economy behind the project might really help us with
 various negotiations with vendors.

Secondly the University has been working on several aspects of
telecommunications for a long time, and therefore has expertise in
telephonic security and codecs (among other things) that could be of use
 to the Openmoko community.

Third, the university has the ability and expertise to design new
integrated circuits. Recently they designed a a range of analog-digital
chips. Therefore the possibility of developing, manufacturing and
freely licensing new chips to help reduce the cost of the phone is
 possible.

Forth, while the facilities I mentioned are capable of producing up to
10,000 units at the rate of one circuit board every 30 seconds, the
purpose of the facilities is research, developing and support projects
that can lead innovation, the lab's charter does not allow them to
manufacture more units then the 10,000 because that would be commercial
production. Therefore the university has a goal of freely licensing
the design to companies for manufacture.

Fifth, the university would be happy to host the mailing lists and
forums of the Openmoko project. If some of the software projects need
hosting and can not find hosting services other places, the university
will consider acting as a primary hosting facility for these projects.

Sixth, personally I would like to see this concept extended, of inviting
more universities and their facilities to help with this project
world-wide. I hope that the leadership of the University of Sao Paulo
will help create the structure and inspiration for this to happen.

Finally, the university has a non-profit legal entity, LSITEC, which can
easily do the type of paperwork that Sean's company did (NDAs,
certification) so the community can leverage off that.

I know that there will be a lot of questions and considerations to take
before the community is comfortable with this relationship. Dr. Zuffo
has asked that I help coordinate the joining together of the university
with the community, and in the interest of seeing Openmoko continue to
do the fine work started by Sean and all of you, I will be glad to help
in this capacity. I am monitoring the community mailing list, and
people are also welcome to email me directly (mad...@li.org) with
questions that you do not (for any reason) wish to post to the list.

A copy of Dr. Zuffo's letter of intent is below. I have the original
PDF if anyone would like to see it, but it was too big to make it
through the community's standards on mailing lists unmoderated, and I
thought you might like to see this as soon as possible.

automatically, it may require authentication. mplayer won't handle that, and
will lock up. Of course, it's not Intone's job to do this either, but I
would like to see Intone run (and close) even when mplayer locks, and

 +1

According to the schematics of the FR, the ID line of the battery is
not connected to anything (R1769 is marked NC). I checked my FR rev A6
(from your shop Christoph!;)), and this resistor is not populated.
So it means the ID line of the battery is definitely not used.

Now I'm not saying it is safe to use whatever battery, i'm just saying
that the power management chip (the PCF 50633) is not able to read any
information out of the battery you fit in your FR (like battery ID,
 serial number, etc...).

I would say that as long as you use a 3.7V single-cell Li-ion battery
that has built-in protection, it should be safe to test with your FR.
The only drawback you'll get is a longer charging time.
 not-really-sure
The FR is designed/programmed to charge at 500mA max. It should be
possible to change the charging rate in software (u-boot and/or
kernel), or perhaps by doing some HW mods.
 /not-really-sure

I'm not a battery expert, complementary information welcome!

According to the FR battery page [1], they say that FR use a smart
battery (model number CT-GTA02 [2]) but i can tell you that i don't
have such a thing in my phone, i actually have a battery marked
Model: GTA02, which is definitely not a smart battery (it has only 3
pins), this battery correspond more to what's describe on the Neo
battery page [3]. Moreover, the schematics of the FR show that it use
only 2 signals of the battery: V+ and V-.

the only valid botch would be to have a unique dedicated device like

nevertheless a lot of audio apps are borked and use a hardcoded

to set up the device too (pairing etc). Hence, the current status.

What would be the best way to do this? I could pick up the audio output

from a configuration file. Or does anyone have any other ideas?

Especially, if users need to switch from the FR speaker / headphone to
 bluetooth

I don't know..
but I do know it would be VERY convenient for me (and probably
everyone who likes to listen to music with BT)

I will test the solution of Michael Sheldon, but this is not a real
solution, it should be configurable, everbody wants to use the
speakers or headphones now and then

a button in intone would be very useful

The main screen should give us a selector list of all songs on your pc,

I flashed fs and kernel images on NAND (using neotool)and I tried to flash QI

When I'm trying to boot from the NOR menu using 'Boot' choice, I got messages

One can't easily do anything with NOR u-boot. It does its own

I think the fact that it's not like you describe the whole idea of the design
 ;)

Go to the page on El Reg and try and type your name by pushing your
monitor. It's stupid, yes, but it gives you an idea of how it would
work. It seems, without any feedback, to be very nice. The fact that
all the triangles are orientated the same way means you get a huge
area of triangular free space around each key, that lets you mash at
 them without accidentally hitting another.

I don't think it's about training your hands as others have said, it's
about providing a key with a lot of free space around it - effectively
you've made the key bigger (because you can hit any are around it and
sort of hit the right one without mis-hitting another) whilst
keeping the overall size very small.

 Its genius is its simplicity.

 Hi.

I'm not sure where I messed up this time but hopefully someone can

Few days back I had a fully functional SHR unstable (not the latest I

started to echo again - see thread called Re: [shr] [om2009] call
 volume in shr-unstable. I changed
 my /usr/share/openmoko/scenarios/gsmhandset.state according to the
instructions in the thread as well but can't tell for sure if the
current problem started then. At one point however I had completely no
sound at all during calls and the other side didin't hear me either.
At that point returning gsmhandset.state to the original did not help
either. Well, I mess up my SHR about once or twice a month so that's
not a big deal and today I installed the latest unstable:

 kernel:
 uImage-2.6.29-oe10+gitr119809+f16c3431a1a7510eb3504ec5d96677dd0fac4cd6-r3.4-om-gta02.bin

 image:
 shr-shr-image-glibc-ipk--20090523-om-gta02.rootfs.jffs2

 I updated it as well.

Now the peculiar thing is that the problem still remains after the
reflash. I was sure that it was the gsmhandset state file that was
messed up but now I'm not so sure.

Does anyone have any ideas? The audio is not completely broken as I can
play mp3s on the device. I suspect that it's not a SHR-wide problem
either as I haven't seen anyone complain yet.

included since 0.9.5 I'd rather have them published raw as they might be now
 than forget about them.

Main features I added are the ability to do complete paperless geocaching
 along with several small fixes:
 - map tiles are scaled from a lower level if they are missing in current
 resolution
 - coloured tracks based on height/speed/...
 - in the scripts folder, there is a script to convert PocketQueries to a
 geocache.db
 - a script to upload fieldnotes of found caches to ease logging

As I haven't received any official reply to my request to geocaching.com to
allow inclusion of their icons, one has to manually do so - see the script
 in the pixmaps dir  hint,hint

Sorry documentation is lacking, but at least you have the code, and most of
 the features should be self-explanatory.
The binary is UNTESTED, as my FR is still getting BUZZ-fixed...

Feel free to include or enhance any of this, and I'd be very happy to

png tiles there, it's just waste of space, bandwith and time to
download separate files for both - and if/since everyone will symlink,
why not do it by default..
Good point, just check in if the direrectory exist if true symlink if
 not create it.

Re: [possibly any] Your storage is full

2009-05-18 Thread Yorick Moko
I think it is because it stores the SENT smses, but does not display them

 Hello list.

My friend's been having this problem for a long time(since I installed
her SHR, before that it was FDOM). And I experience it myself.

The message 'Your storage is full' is being displayed for me each time
the distribution boots and nothing could be done with it. Cannot see
_ANY_ sms in the messages app. There is _nothing_ displayed.

My friend says she's been able to delete them by inserting the sim into
her Motorola and deleting them by hand there.

What's the problem here? What app works with the sim card? Does the gsm
modem work with it so it is broken or is it just a modem?
